Work Text:
Kazuichi hated crying for no reason
Every time tears started running, he just wanted to disappear and let nothing show.
He was never able to hold back, it was such a hopeless feeling, a need so strong...
And that was the occasion.
During a class gathering, where everyone felt happy and his surroundings were all smiles and laughter, Kazuichi rushed to leave the room, nearly running to the outside space.
"It's so late..." He thought, watching the amount of stars already showing.
The mechanic fiddled with his sleeves for a second, making his way to a bench and sitting down, looking at nowhere specific while letting out quiet sobs.
"So the universe chose you too?" He heard a voice come from his right, seeming equally as constrained as his own. His head snapped up, looking in the direction and spotting Nekomaru standing under the shadows of some tree.
"Fuck!", he cursed mentally for having been caught.
"What?" He managed to say, his trembling voice giving away anything he hoped to still be able to hide. He watched the taller man walk in his direction and sit down.
Nekomaru's eyes were still wet, cheeks stained with tears he wasn't able to control either. "Some people say that when someone dies alone, without having no one to feel the loss and the pain, the universe picks someone to cry." He sighed.
Kazuichi was lost in thought.
That... Seemed to give him a little comfort. Sure, it was probably just some made up thing to make people feel less bad for crying for no reason, but it didn't seem so small or ridiculous when he thought of it like that.
"Poor person... Having to die alone..." Is what he answered, without even knowing what to say. "At least there's two people crying here." He finally allowed the tears to keep coming, not afraid anymore.
"Yeah... Maybe it was someone important" Nekomaru patted his back briefly and then rested his arm on the backrest of the bench.
"But then, someone would be sad, no?"
"Maybe. Sometimes, important people might be forgotten." Nekomaru seemed to come from a familiar place. Kazuichi didn't ask who he was referring to.
He just nodded and lowered his head, feeling the cold night air hitting his face, making the warm tears feel even more obvious.
In some other place they'd find their explanation, as water fills someone's lungs and his senses were slowly fading. Even though he couldn't fight back, Ryoma Hoshi was already aware he was alone, and no one would be sad for his death.
