Unexpected Inspection

It was a warm summer evening at Camp Half-Blood. By now the sun was going down and the demigod campers had been gathered around the campfire for the last 45 minutes roasting marshmallows, burning offerings for the gods, and singing campfire songs.

Percy sat in the grass at the edge of the group with his arms wrapped around Annabeth's waist and his chin resting on her shoulder. As he looked around at the scene that had become so familiar to him, he found it hard to believe it was his last full summer here. One of the reasons for that was that in his six years here, there were a lot of times that he didn't even think he would make it to his 18th birthday. Especially after last year which had been probably the hardest year of his life where he lost his memory and spent months away from everything that was familiar to him, became part of another prophecy and a death-defying quest, fell into Tartarus and somehow survived, fought another war, and spent his last year of high school dealing with all of the PTSD and emotional baggage that came with it.

This summer had been a huge contrast to last summer and Percy lived for these quiet moments. All of it hadn't been as bad as it could have been though, and the reason for it was sitting right next to him. He and Annabeth had grown extremely close; he couldn't imagine life without her and he knew that there was no way he would have been able to get through any of the crazy stuff he had gone through without her.

What's more, is that their future looked so bright now. A year ago they were in Tartarus and were faced with a huge war where there was no certainty at all that they would survive. But they had made it out together and very soon they would be moving to New Rome, going to college, and starting a new life together.

Percy hugged her a little bit tighter at the thought of it. She was his light and his happiness. He absolutely needed her in his life.

He pressed his lips to her neck and started to lay light kisses there. Always affectionate with her, he was constantly kissing, hugging, and touching her. It helped calm his anxiety to be so close to her all the time and he knew that she felt the same way.

"What are you doing?" she asked, although she was enjoying the feeling of his soft lips on her skin.

"Telling you how much I love you with my lips," he replied as he continued to kiss her.

"Feels nice," she said with a soft sigh. She laced her fingers in his and squeezed his hand.

"Mm-hmm," he agreed.

Her hand separated from his and trailed up and down his forearm. It was a simple gesture but he loved her touch. She leaned back into him a bit more, looked over her shoulder to face him, and pressed a kiss to his lips. It was a soft kiss but when she pulled back from him he wanted more and went back in for a longer one.

Annabeth was so addicting. Kissing her left his heart beating faster and his nerves racing. She was like a drug that he couldn't get enough of. They had given their bodies to each other for the first time on board the Argo II last summer on the night before they had gone into the war against Gaea and he since then his desire for her had never faltered.

However, they held back in this moment and when Annabeth pulled back from him again he didn't stop her although he very much wanted to keep going. Being surrounded by the other campers, he knew he had to resist. Their friends were sure to start teasing them if they spotted them getting carried away. He and Annabeth had been pushing the rules enough this summer earning scolding looks from Chiron and Mr. D multiple times. And the mortification of getting caught heavily making out was not something Percy wanted to experience again.

Still, that didn't mean he didn't want her. His arms remained locked around her waist and he nuzzled her cheek affectionately. From the way she was still trying to calm her breathing, it was obvious that the kiss had affected her just as much.

He leaned close to her ear and whispered "Let's go to my cabin."

"Percy…" she began, sounding unsure. But she looked around and everyone else and sure enough no one was paying attention to them. Their focus was on Leo making jokes in the middle of the campfire. No one was going to notice if they went off on their own. "Okay, let's go."

The two of them quietly got up from where they were sitting and walked hand in hand across the camp towards the cabins.

There were a few perks to having a cabin all to himself. He didn't have to deal with anyone else being loud or disturbing his sleep, there wasn't anyone else to clean up after, and he didn't have to answer to anyone but himself. The best perk was one that he had discovered this summer: he got to sleep with his girlfriend every night and they had enough privacy to do whatever they wanted.

For the entire summer, she had been sneaking into his cabin every night without anyone asking questions. The rest of the Athena cabin certainly noticed her absence but they had been sworn (more like threatened) into secrecy. They were breaking a ton of camp rules by doing this and Mr. D would send the harpies after them if he ever found out, but so far no one had ever noticed and they planned to keep it that way for the last couple weeks they were here.

They arrived inside of the familiar Poseidon cabin that had always smelled vaguely of salt water. After shutting the door behind them they made their way towards the only bed in the cabin that wasn't neatly made.

Percy stretched as he walked across the room. "Today was fun," he said.

When Annabeth turned back to face him, there was a devious smile on her face. "Now we're going to have some more fun." She grabbed the front of his shirt and pulled her to him for a kiss that knocked the wind out of him. Now that they were finally alone, she didn't bother to hold back.

When they eventually did pull back from each other they were flushed and panting and very ready for more.

"Gods, I fucking love you," Percy said.

The way her hands went under his shirt and trailed upwards from his stomach to his chest made him shiver. "Show me how much."

That he would gladly do. In an unexpected motion, he swept her off her feet causing her to giggle happily and carried her over to the bed. As soon as he lay her down, he moved on top of her kissing her hungrily caught in a frenzy that wouldn't stop until he had all of her. One by one, their clothes were removed and thrown to the floor. When he finally sank into her to give her his love, it was pure heaven.

Waking up and having Annabeth's beautiful face be the first thing he saw was truly something special. If he could wake up like this every day for the rest of his life he would die a happy man.

The sun streamed through the curtains the next morning while birds chirped and the light commotion of early risers could be heard outside. Annabeth and Percy were still under the blanket wrapped around each other and didn't have any intention of getting up anytime soon.

"Good morning, Seaweed Brain."

"Good morning, Wise Girl," he replied, returning her loving smile. Always unable to resist the draw of her soft lips, he went in and kissed her...and again...and again…

"Percy…" Annabeth moaned into his mouth.

The sound of her lust-filled voice sent a vibration down his spine. Both of them moaned deeply with each kiss becoming more aroused by the second.

However, before they could get very far there was a knock on the door.

The sound of it startled them and they quickly pulled away from their kiss.

"Who the hell could that be?" Percy said. Each of them were extremely confused. No one ever knocked on the door this early in the morning.

Confusion was quickly replaced by panic as Annabeth hopped out of bed and tossed Percy his pants. "Get up, honey. You don't want them to see us like this do you?"

Percy realized she was right. If the wrong person caught them like this, it would be bad.

They started to get dressed as fast as they could and whoever was outside of the door seemed to be getting impatient because they were now banging on the door.

"Go hide in the closet," Percy said to her. Then he quickly made his way to the door and to his utter surprise it was Dionysus.

"Good morning, Peter," Dionysus said in his usual annoyed tone.

"Hey, Mr. D," Percy replied, so nervous that he wasn't even annoyed that Dionysus had intentionally said his name wrong yet again. He knew he looked a mess with his hair in disarray, his face still flushed, and the massive boner in his pants. He just hoped the god didn't notice. "What brings you here so early?"

"I'm here for inspection."

"Inspection? But inspections are always announced."

"That was in the past. I've finally convinced Chiron to do unexpected inspections. It kind of defeats the purpose of an inspection to tell you brats that we're coming first, doesn't it?"

Now Percy was really panicking. Dionysus would be checking the entire cabin for things that weren't supposed to be there and that included his girlfriend.

"Are you going to let me in?"

"What if I said no?" Percy tried.

Dionysus narrowed his eyes at him. "I wouldn't if I were you."

Percy knew that Dionysus wasn't allowed to use most of his god powers at camp but he'd always gotten the feeling that he would turn them into a grapevine anyway if they pushed him too far. So he stepped aside and let him in.

"You couldn't have bothered to put on a shirt?" Dionysus asked.

Percy glared at him. "I didn't expect to be scrutinized."

"See, there you go! That's the point of the inspection."

Percy watched nervously as Dionysus began to walk back and forth across the cabin checking for illegal items like the box of condoms in the bedside drawer. Luckily, he seemed to forget to open that drawer and Percy nearly collapsed with relief but he wasn't out of trouble yet. With Annabeth still hiding in the closet, he wasn't sure how he was going to explain things when Dionysus opened the door.

"You don't strike me as the type of person to be interested in ancient Greek architects," Dionysus said as he noticed the book on the side table.

"Annabeth let me borrow it. It's very interesting." Truthfully she had been reading it the other night before they went to bed, he had never opened it.

"Mm-hmm." Dionysus sounded unconvinced but didn't ask further questions.

Finally, he went to the closet door. Percy was nearly tearing his hair out with worry as he tried desperately to come up with an excuse.

Dionysus opened the door but much to his surprise he didn't say anything. In fact, he didn't even seem to notice Annabeth was there. Not seeing anything unusual, he closed the door and then turned around and checked off some things on his clipboard.

"You've passed the inspection."

Percy couldn't believe what he was hearing. "I...what?"

"The inspection is over. You've passed."

"But…"

"The inspection is over! What more do you want?! Do you want me to fail you?!"

"No! Of course not!"

“Alright then,” Dionysus said as he walked toward the door. “See you at breakfast.” With that, he slammed the door behind him leaving Percy standing in the middle of the room trying to comprehend what just happened.

He was brought back to reality by the feeling of hands on his shoulders. At first, he was startled and nearly jumped out of his skin, but when he turned around he saw Annabeth laughing at him. Now he was even more confused. “Wha...what happened? Why didn’t he see you?”

Annabeth put her hands on her hips and looked at him in that way she did when she knew something he didn’t. “I have my ways. Now, let’s get ready for breakfast before we have any more unexpected guests…”

Percy wasn’t letting her get away with things that fast. He put his arm around her waist and pulled her back to him. “Hold it, Wise Girl. You’re not going anywhere until you tell me what you did.”

Annabeth rolled her eyes. “It’s not that complicated, Percy.” She pulled her invisibility cap out of her pocket. “Did you forget about this?”

Truthfully, he had completely forgotten about it. Now it all made sense. “Ah, well, actually…”

Annabeth laughed again and placed a kiss on his lips. “Let’s go, Seaweed Brain.”
