Sunday

Summary:

While in the arms of her man, Adagio reminisces on how she even got to be with a guy like Pete in the first place.

Notes:

I wrote this last year, but I wanted to edit it.

The story is short, but it's sweet. I hope you enjoy.

Work Text:

It was a warm and muggy Sunday morning and Adagio gently awakened from her slumber faced right next to her boyfriend, Pete, who's still soundly asleep with his big, pale arms wrapped around her body like she's a full size snuggly plushie that's keeping him safe.

And despite the fact that her groggy red-violet eyes are open and her body ready to get up and start the day, Adagio didn't want to get out of bed just yet.

Why?

Because Adagio simply wanted to enjoy Petey's sweet yet sleepy embrace just for a little while longer before he wakes up. The sound of his strong heartbeat, as well as his occasional soft mumbles are music to her ears, his single dark brown lock of hair lightly tickling her olive cheeks to the point of letting out a tiny chuckle and more importantly, his bare skin contacting hers causes a warmth that quickly spreads to her veins, creating a small grin to form on her face.

Maybe there's a sense of security that Adagio feels every time Pete invites her to cuddle and sleep with him. Maybe she's urgently seeking the intimacy that she never got from her previous 'lovers' in the past. Maybe she just adores being in his presence so damn much.

Whatever the reasoning, Adagio always seized the opportunity to do so, since they didn't always do this on a regular basis due to their extremely busy work schedules and the stresses it sometimes causes.

And just spending the night together in each other's embrace was just enough to escape the anxiety-inducing reality for a little while to remain sane.

But as she continues to happily cuddle next to him and hide her face in his chest, Adagio thinks about how she even got to be with someone like Pete in the first place.

Even if the memory of their introduction was sort of a blur to her, Adagio remembered a time where she didn't particularly like Pete, due to a mixture of her mistrust simply because he's a man and feared that he was going to hurt or take advantage of her in the vulnerable state she was in and the fact that he's a pathetic man with an odd fascination with his mother, Baba, which definitely didn't sit well with the then scared woman who wanted to escape the funeral home and never come back.

Therefore, Adagio avoided Pete at all cost for the first few weeks and completely ignored him whenever he made an attempt to communicate with her. She wanted absolutely nothing to do with him and at the time, he was the last person she would want to date or even befriend.

But one fateful day, Adagio felt dizzy and fainted near his bedroom doorstep after not eating a single thing for five days straight. Pete immediately came to her aid, made her a couple of sandwiches and gave her snacks, while keeping her company as best as he could til the woman regained her strength.

"Adagio, please continue to eat every single day. I don't want you to faint again."

And once she got to know him a bit better, Adagio warmed up to him and the two quickly became close friends, spending the majority of their free time in each other's company; watching movies downstairs, baking all sorts of sweets in the kitchen, talking about their interests.

Eventually, Adagio developed feelings for the man, but she was ashamed of it at the time. She didn't want anyone finding out about her secret crush, and the notion of it being revealed would have devastated her to no end.

She prayed every single night that this silly little crush on Pete would just disappear, but the feelings grew more intense with each passing day and Adagio was close to breaking the silence.

Unfortunately, Trophy caught Adagio checking out Pete's butt while he bent down to retrieve his keys off the ground, revealing the secret much to the embarrassment of her. The zombie women teased her about it for days on end until Adagio finally mustered up the confidence to tell Pete how she truly feels.

Thank goodness she did, as Pete had feelings for her too; From her gentle voice and the dimples that form on her face every time she smiles to her reserved yet sassy personality makes his heart flutter with joy. This came as a shock to Adagio, since her past experiences with men were extremely horrific.

And even during the relationship, Adagio still had trust issues regarding her emotions and continued to mask them until she was unable to do so.

Then, she remembered what he had said to her that day when she broke into tears right in front of him for the first time:

"It's okay to cry, Adagio. Let those tears come right now. You don't need to hold them in anymore."

And on the day when she vent to him about the nightmare she had:

"I think you shouldn't be afraid to express yourself just because some crappy men from your past don't like it. You keep being you, Adagio. Remember that."

That's when she realized Pete is not like the other guys she used to date. He never yelled at her or did anything to physically harm her in any manner. Instead, Pete is a total sweetheart who showered her with tons of gifts, hugs, kisses and cuddles every time she asks for them, and treats her with the utmost respect.

She did the same, too, and even defended him when he was too frightened to speak up for himself. They always had each other's back no matter the circumstances.

Now, it has been a little over a year since they've been together and Adagio has been enjoying every single second of it.

She couldn't help it. Tears started pouring out from the woman's eyes after reminiscing on those memories. Those safe, happy, peaceful memories that replaced the bleak, hopeless and abusive ones from the past and she couldn't wait to create more of those wonderful experiences with Pete and wouldn't mind at all if he asked her to marry him or to carry his future child someday.

When that day happens, it would make Adagio the happiest woman in the world.

Finally, Pete wakes up and quickly notices his girlfriend's wet eyes and tear stained cheeks, "Oh, sweetheart, are you alright? Did you have another bad dream?" He inquired, with a worried gaze.

"N-No.." She confessed, clearing the lump forming in her throat, "I'm umm, just happy that you're in my life, mi amor."

"Aww, that's so sweet, Ada." He cooed, sitting up, "Now you're going to make me weep."

Adagio sits up, too to meet his gaze, letting out a tiny giggle, "Oh, Petey, so sensitive. That's what I like about you."

His cheeks turn red, "Oh you."

Pete leans in close to Adagio, softly pecking her cheeks as she briefly massages his upper back before both of them jump out of bed and swiftly change into their everyday clothes.

Standing next to the bedroom door, they share one more long, passionate kiss, before saying their goodbyes and Adagio went back to her room in the attic, grabbed a couple of strawberry pop tarts from her snack drawer, sat down in desk chair and began to work a writing a special song specifically for Pete, as a thank you for always being by her side, even on the days she was being difficult and even on the days she felt gross and unattractive.

The woman calls the song "My special one." She hopes to one day share this beautiful song with her beloved, and with the rest of the world
