We're Weaving Back Lost Time

Summary:

This is the second time Jun visits Kaname, the first being almost immediately after he woke up. With nothing better to do, Jun braids Kaname's hair and talks about the ES idols.

Notes:

Hello this is my first fic on AO3! Tagging is harder than it looks. OreMeru is ■■ because I'm canon compliant, please enjoy the junkana/kanajun!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

The dark blue haired boy had started humming ever since he thought that the tranquil walls of the hospital, safe from some occasional noises and beeps from the medical machinery, was too quiet. Shallow breaths shouldn't be the only thing they were exchanging ever since their reunion, ever since he woke up.

Slowly he combed through the taller boy's light turquoise hair with his hands, fingers untangling knots made from an approximate two years of sleeping on a hospital bed. Kaname's hair wasn't taken much care of during his stay, but still, extremely pretty to look at, to feel, too. As it literally glowed from the golden light the hospital's windows allowed.

Jun took a lock of hair with one hand, and another with his other hand. Slowly he weaved, interlacing the 2 thick strings of light blue, making a messy caress of care. Ibara was right, braiding is calming.

"Sazanami, what are you doing?" Kaname had been staring at his bed's sheets, unsure of what to say. This was the second time they've met in such a long time, the first being almost immediately after he woke up. His onii-chan had tried his best explaining the current situation of the idol industry. Honestly it had been too much that even after reuniting with important people in his life (Tatsumi-senpai and Sazanami), he always fell silent, not knowing what to say, or talk about, 'cause where would they start, how would they end?

"I'm just braiding your hair." Kaname could hear the smile from Jun's face. Another hum, another lock of hair. Another note, another weave.

Jun wasn't exactly sure how to react when he found out the HiMERU for the past two years wasn't the original HiMERU, his HiMERU. His HiMERU now has slightly longer, unkept hair, with paler skin. Luckily Ibara, ■■, and the CosPro PR staff hasn't yet made the decision of revealing Kaname's recovery to the public yet. So for now, Jun can mull over how to act like a proper adult, thinking of ways to make up lost time with Kaname, like the teen he is.

Jun's just not exactly sure, in this moment, how to deal with his HiMERU, Kaname, being silent.

Kaname gazed to the side, "I think you're having too much fun with my hair."

Jun let out a small chuckle, "you're not wrong, it is fun."

As Jun was facing Kaname's back, busy with the latter's hair, Kaname is eternally grateful, because that means Jun couldn't see the small hue of heat creeping up his cheeks.

"My unit leader's got long grey hair. A lot longer than yours. He's got it braided some times, mostly by Ibara though." Jun switched from humming to talking, because that's how he's most comfortable with Kaname, "Actually, ■■'s unitmate, Shiina-san, has long grey hair too. Usually just tied up in a nice low pony tail."

Oh man, the ES idols again. Kaname wishes he had the near perfect memory of his onii-chan's. When he and Tatsumi-senpai started talking about them, he can only awkwardly nod along. Both of them didn't need to know it was an information overload for him.

"Oh, and Kazehaya-senpai also has a unitmate, Ayase-san, with a braid almost at all times." Jun continued. Kaname could feel Jun's fingertips touching his scalp, only to slip away. But Kaname still knows he's there, he can feel those fingers slightly tugging on the ends of his hair. "Like how I'm trying to braid your hair now." Jun finished another interlock.

It still feels twisted and totally wrong that Tatsumi-senpai is in an amateur unit with newbies, albeit very talented newbies, and Jun being in the, yeah what did they call it, ES' Big Three? Whatever, his unit was called Eden and surprisingly it wasn't led by Deputy Director Saegusa but actually Ran-san and Tomoe-san of the old fine. Actually, these things weren't actually shocking, it was just such a role reversal from Reimei. What actually happened in those 2 years?

"I don't suppose you have a hair tie with you to complete the braid?"

"Honestly, I didn't even expect myself to be in this situation to bring one around," Jun gives a small laugh, "pfft, goddamn."

Jun relapsed into humming and Kaname can only vaguely describe the song as familiar.

"Sazanami, what song are you humming?"

"Ah," a pause "It's Sunlit Smile."

No, it's not like Kaname was curious about Tatsumi-senpai and Jun's idol activities during his hiatus. He just simply watched all the MVs and all of their units' songs for research, in the likely case he would be assigned to be an ES idol.

"Ah, er, it's an Eve song, isn't it?" Kaname stumbled through the words.

"Yeah. It's mine and ohii-san's song."

Ah yes Tomoe-san, the guy Sazanami calls princess. Kaname's not exactly sure how to react to that. If anything actually, he's not exactly sure how to to react to Jun's relationship with his unitmates. They seemed close, and intimate, from what he can vividly remember from the Trap For You MV, which, he can remember quite incredibly well, even though he literally couldn't recognize something iconic like Sunlit Smile. Kaname doesn't know to how to react to that revelation. Kaname doesn't have anything against Jun being close with his unitmates.

"Would you prefer me singing a song from your idol days instead? Or maybe even Yubisaki no Ariadne?" Jun added, a slight teasing tone in the end.

Right, Yubisaki no Ariadne. A song that was adapted from Kaname's original song. The composer writing it specifically for the variety show onii-chan's unit starred in, Labyrinth, where onii-chan was acting like him. Actually, for the entire Crazy:B part of "HiMERU" 's career, onii-chan has been a copycat and used Kaname's stage name! Kaname can at least be sure of one thing, he's honestly agitated that onii-chan would use HiMERU, even if it was to protect Kaname's dream. Which was the point! It was Kaname's precious stage name, Kaname's dream! Not his...Kaname can understand though why onii-chan would do such a thing, and he isn't exactly angry at that part, at protecting his dream.

Jun let go of the braid and it dissolved back into the natural streams of Kaname's hair, it wasn't too awfully wavy since it wasn't actually tied, and now, it has less knots. But before Kaname can comment, Jun palmed tuffs of hair again and restarted, weaving it all over again.

"Why did you do that, Sazanami?"

"Did what?"

"Letting go of the braid. You're just continuing braiding again."

"As I said I don't have a hair tie. So it couldn't hold. I just let it go so I could braid it again, you hair's quite nice to hold." Jun widened his smile.

A pause followed after.

"...just," Jun felt the need to rekindle the conversation again, "let me take care of it, okay? To make up for not taking care of you all this time."

And Kaname lets him do it, because letting Jun take care of him isn't the worst thing in the world, it's to make up for lost time.

Notes:

This was betaread by my good friend who is a huge fan of kanajun/junkana, they choose to remain anonymous. Honestly I've just been having such a thick brainrot about HiMERU (both Kaname and OreMeru), thanks for reading!
