Chapter Text
"Alright, and that's the end of that. Whew, almost didn't think I was going to finish all this in time." (Y/N) spoke out loud to herself. It was another late night at the agency for her, finishing up all the medical reports her doctors piled high on her desk.
(Y/N) had been working at Hawks' agency for exactly 8 months already, which came by much quicker than expected. She had graduated at UA, and as soon as she was fully out, the commission wasted no time in swooping her up for this agency. Her quirk was one a lot of people would kill to have their hands on. (Y/N) was a healer, however it didn't have any drawbacks. Her quirk didn't make her patient exhausted like Recovery Girl, she was able to activate her quirk, and with a little time the patient was back to new again. Worried she could be targeted for it, the Hero Commission sought it best she stay under their strict watch.
So here she was, hurriedly running around putting away all the resources that had been pulled out for the day. Needing to attend a wedding afterwards, she grabbed her dress that was hanging neatly in a bag behind the closet door and quickly got changed. (Y/N) slipped on the dress, and admired how it fit her in the mirror. However, she couldn't fight back the tears that fell from her eyes. Getting married had always been a dream, however an arranged quirk marriage wasn't what she had in mind.
Wiping away her tears and fixing her hair and make-up, (Y/N) let out a sigh before slipping on her shoes and headed for the door. Just as she was about to reach for the handle, the door suddenly swung open with a large force. There was absolutely no time to register what was going on before a beaten and battered Hawks was barely holding himself up in the doorway. "Oh my, sorry I didn't realize I was... crashing a wedding..." Hawks panted out. Even in a situation as serious as this he was able to keep his sarcasm. He was barely able to finish his sentence before his strength let out on him, leaving him falling forward straight into (Y/N).
Completely forgetting the fact that she was in fact supposed to be on the way to her wedding, downed in a wedding dress and all, she caught him. Hawks wasn't too much taller than her, and much to her surprise he was light. Maybe he did have hollow bones like birds. Bracing him against herself, her arms under his armpits as his arms dangled by her sides. "Isn't it... supposed to be the Damsel that's... in distress?" He joked, a hefty cough replacing his laugh. "You may wanna put me down pretty face... I'm... I'm ruining your dress..."
His breathing was progressively getting more labored, his legs were shaking using the very last bit of his strength to keep him upright. "Wha- Who cares about the dress! You're clearly dying!" (Y/N) cried out, coming fully to her sense now. Moving quickly and as gently as she could, (Y/N) laid him flat on the floor, unable to really get him to a bed. Hawks was a mess. He was unable to open his eyes due to the amount of blood dripping from his forehead, his feathers burnt and only a few remained. His mouth was gasping for air as it dripped with blood, it was then (Y/N) noticed her back was wet. When he had coughed just a moment earlier, he spit up blood.
Placing both of her hands against his chest, she looked back to his face. It was slowly losing color and his breathing was starting to slow. "Stay with me Hawks, I'm going to fix you right up I swear." She didn't realize it, but (Y/N) was crying. It was jarring for anyone to be in this situation, but to have her idol, the very person that kept her safe be in this predicament was more than her heart could bare.
Almost a minute after the healing process began, Hawks took a large gasp of air, coughing hysterically as he did so. "Oh thank god!" (Y/N) cried out, not moving her hands as she continued healing him. Her tears continued to fall, faster now due to the relief, but she refused to take her hands off him. Still so concentrated on the task at hand, she didn't even notice Hawks lift his arm, reaching for (Y/N)'s face.
Feeling his sudden touch against (Y/N)'s cheek took her a bit off guard, flinching a bit and looking directly to his face. His golden eyes were barely open, just peering through his eyelashes. "Why... why are you in... a wedding dress?" Hawks heaved out between harsh breaths, wiping a tear from (Y/N)'s cheek. He's feeling coherent enough to speak, that's a great sign. Relaxing a bit under his touch, she sighed out the breath she'd been holding since this whole mess started.
"Believe it or not, I'm supposed to be getting married right now." (Y/N) stated with a pained laugh. She didn't inherently want to get married at this very moment, she was still very young- barely approaching her mid twenties. Not to mention, she hasn't even met the man. Her family picked him out based on his quirk and in her family's eyes, their word is law.
"Why... why don't those sound... like happy tears?" Hawks asked, not moving his hand. His sentences were starting to sound more natural, no longer pained. "Well I mean, you did just come in here on the brink of death at midnight, so I've been a little stressed." (Y/N) sniffled out a little giggle. She could've sworn she felt Hawks' touch stiffen under her. "That's fair but... something about they way... you said believe it or not. I can believe it. Such a pretty face wouldn't say that unless they didn't want to get married."
While she was grateful he was able to get out complete sentences without gasping for air, she cursed at him mentally for being so damn smart. His hand suddenly fell from her cheek and immediately her attention was full on his face again. "Sorry- hand fell asleep." Hawks admitted, his chest rising and falling at a normal pace now. "So why is it you don't want to get married?" He pressed further, closing his eyes fully. (Y/N) was a little nervous to allow him to do so, but she figured he was exhausted and if he was talking to her, then that'd be sign enough he was still alive.
Her hands never leaving his chest and the healing process continuing, (Y/N) put her attention back to the job at hand. "I've... never met him. My family is forcing me into an arranged quirk marriage. Unfortunately, I don't have much say otherwise. I've thought about just... running away, but I'm afraid my parents will find a means to force me back home." (Y/N) didn't particularly want to air out all of her dirty laundry to Hawks during this moment. Especially considering the two of them didn't really know each other. Sure they'd seen each other in the building, but it never got past a very casual conversation.
"Nah, sounds lame. I say skip out entirely and run away. No sense in wasting feelings for a man you've never met." Hawks stated so matter of factly. It got quiet for a moment, the only thing to break the silence was a sniffle. His eyes flying open wide, they immediately darted to (Y/N)'s face. "It's not that easy Hawks, trust and believe me I've planned it out. Almost tried and few times! However I don't have anywhere to go. I'm kept under strict watch from both my parents and the commission, I don't want to be shackled anymore."
Hawks hadn't realized that his response would've struck such a cord. Propping himself up his elbows with a grunt, (Y/N) snapped her attention to him again. The tear stained face Hawks was greeted with damn near broke his heart in two. "You need to stay laying down, the healing process isn't done." The statement was shaky as the words trembled out of her lips. His gaze soften a bit as he formulated a plan to help her get out of the situation.
"Hey, what about me? Am I good enough for your parents?" It was almost historical to see the expression shift on (Y/N)'s face as quick as it did. Her jaw hung open ever so slightly still trying to understand what he was asking and why. Hawks let out a content sigh and a soft smile took over his lips. Reaching up, using his thumb and index finger he squeezed (Y/N)'s cheeks just enough to make her lips pout. "It's a yes or no question (Y/N)."
Shaking her head out of his touch, the look of surprise was still planted on her face. "Well I mean, obviously you would be. You're the number two hero! But what- why are you asking?" She genuinely didn't understand why that mattered in a situation like this. "Well... what if we tell your parents I've been uhh- courting! Courting you with the interest of marriage. They can't say no to this face." Hawks ended his statement by bringing his hands up to hold his face, batting his eyelashes. "Obviously we don't have to fully go along with it once the suspicion wears off. But on the bright side, you won't have to MARRY me, I mean unless you want to." He said, a teasing tone took over at that last part.
(Y/N) was in shock. She didn't quite know how to respond. Instead, she stood, heading to the sink to get some warm water and a rag. She returned to his side, tears still falling. Getting the rag damp with warm water, (Y/N) began blotting gently at his forehead. Unable to make eye contact with him, she worked diligently. Realistically the offer Hawks had just laid on the table was a much more doable outcome. It was silent the entire time (Y/N) worked at removing the blood from his handsome face.
Once she was finally done, the two of them just sat for another moment in silence. Hawks was getting ready to break it, sitting criss cross applesauce in front of her, nervously rubbing the back of his neck as he thought about what to say next. That was until (Y/N) suddenly looked up, eyes immediately locking with his. "I don't know if I'll ever measure up to truly stand by your side but... but..." the tears were falling again, harder this time, "but if you're serious, then I'd like to do it." (Y/N) finally blubbered out, vehemently wiping her tears away with the back of her hands.
Hawks expression was taken over by a soft smile. He stood without a word, placing a hand atop (Y/N)'s head and gently ruffling her hair. He returned a moment later with a box of tissues and a goofy grin, "here you are dear." Blowing her nose, she looked back up to Hawks, a glitter of hope in her eyes now shining. And man, Hawks thought she looked absolutely beautiful in this moment. His features softening again, he reached his hand out for her to take.
"Come on, let's get you and your pretty face outta here."
