Work Text:
All is quiet in the Allen-Jordan house. Perhaps even too quiet. Living under the same roof as Hal and Wally, Barry had got used to the noise, but the silence there at the moment was suspicious, he had a feeling it wasn't going to last and something stupid was going to be done, it was only a matter of time.
"Barry ! I need your help !"
And there it was, just as he'd predicted. Hal stormed out of the kitchen where he was doing the dishes to jump over the back of the sofa -a bad habit that Wally had copied from him- to come and sit next to his partner who was chatting to Clark by sms to learn a few techniques for dodging journalists' questions, both as a hero and as a forensic scientist. Barry sent a quick reply to his friend to let him know that he was going to be busy for perhaps a while and then concentrated on his partner, ready to hear the new problem and try to solve it once again without moving from his cosy sofa - practically all the serious discussions took place on this sofa, it's a bit like their office but it's also frightening to imagine the number of hours they spent here, and Barry prefers not to imagine that number-.
"You created an interplanetary conflict by cleaning a fork ?" Barry allowed himself a little joke as Hal's urgency didn't seem extreme, he didn't look at him as if Thawne or Sinestro had just rang their doorbell.
"Worst."
"Did you upset Dinah or Diana ?"
"Worst !"
Okey maybe finally Barry has to expect to see their worst enemies arriving at any moment at the same time.
"So what did you do ?"
"I ate a piece of the cake Wally made for Dick's birthday."
Oh Fluorine.Uranium.Chlorine.Krypton. It's worse than he thought.
"Just...how and why you did THAT ?!"
"I'd completely forgotten, you know very well that I can't remember the kid's birthday, I feel like we celebrate his birthday every month ! And then, after washing up, I was still a bit hungry, so I opened the fridge and saw the cake, which was very good by the way, and by the time I remembered, it was too late..."
With a solemn look, Barry placed his hands on the shoulders of the valiant - but not so much any more - Green Lantern, plunging his azure eyes into Hal's chocolate ones, who was really sorry he'd eaten Wally's cake.
"I'm glad I knew you Harold, I'll never forget you."
"Wait, wait, you can't leave me like this, what happened to "I promise to be faithful to you, through thick and thin" and blah blah blah ?!"
"We're cohabiting Hal, not married, you have to take responsibility for your mistake alone."
"You're going to leave me alone to face Wally ?! After all our battles, you'd dare ?!"
"Totally."
Hal looked at him with a sulky expression on his face, feeling completely betrayed by his lifelong partner, and then the gleam of an idea passed through his eyes, when Barry saw that gleam it was never good for him, it meant that Hal had an idea of how to get what he wanted, and it could be a good idea, but very often it was a very bad idea. Without warning, Hal's face went from sulky to begging for help, giving Barry an adorable puppy dog look, and he had to use all his strength and concentration not to break down. No, no, no, Barry refused to have anything to do with this, maybe he could still run away to Iris's house !... No, Hal was too adorable to let him...
"I hate it when you and Wally do that, it's cowardly..." sighed Barry as his partner sniggered now.
"At least we're doing it consciously, unlike you, sweetheart."
"Yes, yes...well, what do you want me to do to save you from the gallows ?"
"You just need to keep Wally busy while I make a cake identical to his again, go for a run, to a museum or some other geeky stuff but you need to leave the house free for me for four hours."
"Yeah, keep my hyperactive speedster son busy for four hours, easy mission." The blond complained ironically, rolling his eyes.
"You're going to find it, my little genius and saviour !" Hal planted a quick kiss on Barry's lips, rising from the sofa to grab his jacket, wallet and keys. "I knew I could count on you, you really are the best !"
"Yeah, yeah...got your back."
Well, now Barry has to figure out how to keep his little 16-year-old power battery busy...direction the Flash Museum.
