Another school day another set off issues.
Somehow Heavy managed to sneak out of detention, stupid teacher accusing him of something out of his control. He ran outside looking for him brother only to find he was no where.
Odd he could've sworn he'd at least be close by.
He shrugged it off running home excited to tell his mom how he managed to get out and to annoy his brother. His dad was probably still working so best to leave him be.
When he got home the house was fairly quiet with the exception of loud coughing coming from upstairs and the sound of the kettle whistling from the kitchen. Ah so that's why Dee wasn't there. Now that he thought about it Dee did look a bit paler than usual this morning, which was saying something since you could have a side by side comparison of Dee and a snowman and not be able to tell which was which.
Heavy made his way upstairs going and knocking on Dee's door.
His voice was a lot more gravelly as it came through and nearly gone which meant the coughing fits had probably been going on for a bit.
"I told you I'm fine mom go away I just swallowed wrong it's nothing."
Heavy opened the door a bit peeking in, "Not mom but I can see why she'd be worried you look like shit." Heavy went in rolling his eyes as Dee scoffed and flipped him off.
"At least I don't look like I lost a fight with a hair dryer and a-", another coughing fit took over before he could finish his sentence and Heavy helped him sit up handing him water when he finished coughing.
"You got sent home again didn't you?" Heavy already knew the answer but the question fell naturally.
"Ugh yes. Stupid nurse said I had a fever and my coughing was 'disrupting class' called dad before I even got the chance to argue." Dee laid back time now on his side so he could sit up easier during the next inevitable fit.
"Dad told Mom and they both came and got me. Gave me the typical look when I tried saying I was fine and made me lay down... Now that I think about it I'm honestly surprised Mom didn't try to carry me in."
Heavy shook his head a bit, "I don't know why you're so stubborn about letting them take care of you."
Dee rolled over glaring at him, "When was the last time you got sick huh? Did they hover over you and watch your every move?"
No they hadn't but this was different...
The second the thought crossed his mind Dee seemed to know and he just sighed looking away. "You don't understand alright I'm just tired of being fucking babied cause my body is a raging shit show."
Heavy sighed looking up as a knock sounded on the door.
Dee groaned, "Come in." He seemed to just accept his fate as glam came in setting a mug of ginger tea on the table.
Stomach must be bothering him too then Heavy thought zoning out a bit as he wondered what else was wrong snapping back.
"-eavy- Heavy you should leave your brother alone he needs to rest."
Dee rolled his eyes muttering, "Why should he leave me alone when no one else does..."
Glam sighed, "Dee you know we worry your mother especially it would be illogical to leave you alone like this especially with how earlier's fit went-"
Heavy was confused, "Wait what happened earlier?"
Dee just buried his face in his pillow as Glam sat on the edge of the bed next to Heavy.
"Nothing it's fine same old shit just a different day-"
Glam cut him off before he could continue to try and convince heavy of anything else, "Your brother had such a bad coughing fit he cracked a rib which is why the school nurse called me."
Heavy looked at Dee who was glaring at the wall. "Disrupting class?"
Dee huffed softly, "Technically not a lie just... Not the entire truth."
Vicky came in before Glam or Heavy could protest.
"What're you doing in here Heavy? Dee should be resting!"
Dee grumbled, "And yet here I am in a crowded room listening to you three."
"What am I supposed to do leave you alone entirely?!" Vicky crossed her arms obviously in dislike of this idea.
"Yea that'd be preferable actually maybe I'd have some peace and do some shit on my own-"
Glam spoke up at that, "Dee you need the extra help whether you like it or not, we do try to give you privacy but right now that option has lessened significantly."
Dee was hit by another coughing fit before he could respond mildly annoyed when Vicky fully picked him up but deals with it cause at least he's upright just kinda going limp afterwards holding his side.
"This is so stupid I'm done with this 'being sick' shit it's terrible. I just want to be able to do normal shit without worrying if my body will wage war on itself"
Vicky set him down and much to his displeasure wrapped him in as many blankets as she had access to.
"Dee you just need to accept you're not like others." Glam thought this might help as by his logic none of them were but this seemed to just make Dee more upset as he just rolled over.
"Please leave me alone I'm tired."
They all sigh leaving him Heavy the most reluctant to do such but understanding he needed space.
This was a song and dance they all had memorized by now it was best not to change routine.
A few hours later
Fuck not changing routine.
Dee had managed to get a bit of sleep before he was woken up with nausea again from all the coughing that had happened.
He was sore and irritated and it was clear to everyone so they mostly left him alone .
"Sooooo I know Dee needs to rest and all buuut-"
Vicky cut him off with a look, "I already don't like where this is going you little shit. We're not bothering him."
Heavy sighed, "Mom just listen ok I was just gonna say let's have a movie night he loves all the slasher movies and they always make him feel better so why not. Besides it gives you two more of a chance to watch over him."
Glam was quiet seeming to consider it. Looking at Vicky for a moment as if they were having a conversation with their eyes alone. They both relented and Glam nodded a bit.
"I suppose it couldn't hurt anything, we just need to make sure he actually rests instead of you too arguing through it."
Heavy nodded starting to say something but they all fell silent as another coughing fit started. Glam was up first as the sound got worse Vicky following close behind.
They both helped him sit up and find a good position to help the coughing and catch his breath while Dee slumped over his eyes closing.
Vicky sighs softly sitting next to him holding him close while Glam sat on the other side. Heavy leaned on the doorway quiet just thinking.
"Why do you get sick so often?" The sudden words caught everyone off guard including Heavy who'd just intended for that to be an inside thought.
Dee rolled his eyes, "Just the joys of a weak immune system. Not everyone can only get sick every five years like you all, one of us has to take one for the team."
Vicky gently ruffled his hair, "New topic, Heavy wants to have a movie night you game kid?"
Dee considered for a minute, "Classic horror movies?"
Glam smiled, "Only the best."
They all settled in for it bickering over what they should watch first and which movies were better, all of them just relaxing into each other's company. Dee occasionally dozed off and after the second movie Heavy passed out entirely leaving only Vicky and Glam who talked quietly and fussed over Dee when need be.
Time went on as time does, though now it was a bit nicer than before.
