Work Text:
kazuha sits contentedly next to you, a comfortable silence filling the space between you and him. you watch as the artists from above paint the sky and craft it into a masterpiece – a variegation of blues, indigos, pinks, oranges and purples tinting the ceiling of clouds above. the air is wet with the humidity from the transition of summer into spring, but maybe that isn't just where the sweat is coming from.
kazuha is nervous. after all, it's only the fourth date after he confessed. but it is the fourth date, after all, shouldn't he get used to it by now? shouldn't the butterflies finally lay to rest, and let him enjoy himself, immersed in your joyful presence?
he can do this.
the view of the great expanse of the ocean greets you from your picnic spot, boards of sushi and and cups of sake dotting the foreground. picnics were reserved for special occasions, and for this? your birthday.
thoma was kind enough to gift you your favourite food – you didn't request any of it, the ginger was just happy to provide something that would make your picnic experience more so enjoyable than it already was, being able to spend time with kazuha and whatnot.
your eyes quickly scanned the spread in front of you. both traditional and modern cultural foods. miso soup. dry salted braised saba. agedashi tofu. honmei choco. sushi. sake. and of course, cake.
a round cake was plated in the middle of the plethora of food thoma provided for the both of you. the cake, with messily frosted icing and with red lettering that vaguely looked like – "happy birthday y/n!" – looked perfect.
your boyfriend shifts his weight closer to you, pressing a kiss to your cheek as he toys with the promise ring on his finger.
"happy birthday, my love."
