Work Text:
3 years— it has been 3 whole years since Hyunjae and Sunwoo have been happily in love. What Hyunjae thought to be just a college romance, turned out to be his future partner. It really was all thanks to Eric, his best friend Sangyeon’s little brother, for bringing Sunwoo along to one of their random study sessions.
Hyunjae and Sangyeon were finance majors, their field of study was basically the opposite from Eric’s and Sunwoo’s who majored in music at the time. If Eric didn’t drag Sunwoo to the cafe where they studied that day, then Hyunjae would most likely not ever meet Sunwoo at all.
Hyunjae wasn’t immediately taken by the younger, it definitely wasn’t love at first sight— in fact, Hyunjae thought that Sunwoo seemed to be a little too carefree. That is until they started meeting each other more often, thanks to Sangyeon and Eric bringing them along to their home for their respective study sessions.
Soon enough, Hyunjae found it fun to have playful banters with Sunwoo. He’d tease him for the slightest things, for getting distracted easily, for being too loud with Eric. Yet, the younger would easily talk back to him playfully which quickly made him fond of their dynamic.
Despite how rowdy Sunwoo can be, Hyunjae noticed that he was a mature individual and he can’t help but admire the younger’s way of thinking.
Then, came that one night of impulsive drinking— they thought it would be a good idea to celebrate the end of exam week, all four of them and their other classmates. Turns out, Sunwoo was pretty weak against alcohol and was blurting out random things to himself in no time.
“Hyunjae hyung.. hyung— you’re so cool, did you know that? It’s annoying how good looking AND likable you are.” the younger says, completely unprovoked. “Oh? Why thank you, Sunwoo-ya. I’ve always known you just couldn’t admit that I’m cool.”
Hyunjae tried to laugh it off at first, when really he was trying his best to brush off how flustered he is. He’s being drunk, I shouldn’t take what he says seriously.
“No, you don’t get it, hyung. I LIKE YOU.” Sunwoo suddenly yelled out loud, causing some of their sober friends (Sangyeon and Eric included, to immediately look their way). “Sunwoo.. you’re drunk, you don’t know what you’re saying—“ Then, the younger cupped his cheeks and squeezed them slightly.
“No, you listen to me. I like how we banter.. how you’re always there for me even when you try to not show it. How you always encourage me and walk me home after hanging out at Eric’s house.” Hyunjae could only look into Sunwoo’s eyes in shock, slowly bringing his hand to rest on top of the younger’s on his cheek.
“You always come up with reasons to walk me home or when you try to help me with anything.. hyung, I might be oblivious at times, but I’m not dumb. I like LIKE you. You better accept my confession or else I’ll kick your ass.” Despite the threatening sentence at the end, Hyunjae still grinned like a fool before bringing Sunwoo into his arms.
“Shut up already, I get it. I like you, too but can you please tell me all this again when you’re sober instead?” He sighs, ruffling Sunwoo’s hair as he laughs to himself when he realizes the younger was already dozing off— clearly very drunk.
Honestly, that incident made Hyunjae a little mad at himself because he wanted to confess first but his confidence kept holding him back. He thought that Sunwoo wasn’t interested in him, since there could be other alphas of his age and in the same major.
Guess, he really should have listened to Sangyeon, he did say that Eric hinted that Sunwoo was interested in Hyunjae quite a few times.
Hyunjae would never let Sunwoo forget that drunken confession, it was fun seeing his lover get embarrassed about it all over again. It might have not been the best way to admit their feelings, but it was the push they needed to finally make things official.
The next day after the party, Sunwoo would wake up to a headache but is also greeted by a smiling Hyunjae.
At first, the younger just groaned and apologized for the night before but now it was Hyunjae’s turn to confess. After a serious talk about both of their feelings, Sunwoo and Hyunjae decided to become lovers.
After 2 years of dating, Hyunjae proposed to Sunwoo in an abrupt way. Some might say it wasn’t exactly romantic, but what mattered is that Sunwoo said yes. One day, Hyunjae felt that he was sure and ready he could be the best mate for Sunwoo.
On the same day, Hyunjae went to visit Sunwoo’s parents and asked for their blessing. It was a little funny thinking back to that day, since Hyunjae literally blurted out how he will do his best as an alpha for Sunwoo, then knelt and bowed in front of the omega’s parents for their blessings.
Sunwoo’s parents happily said yes, that is after they laughed at him a bit, saying that they never saw this serious side of him. However, they reassured him that he already had their blessing since day one.
“We can now understand even more why Sunwoo loves you very much, Hyunjae-ya. You just showed us once again how much you love our son. Thank you. Please take care of him.” Hyunjae tried his best not to tear up but failed a little.
Upon receiving their blessing, Hyunjae immediately drove to university to pick Sunwoo up, not forgetting to call his own parents on the way about the good news before he arrived at the campus. Once Sunwoo got in the car, Hyunjae took his hand into his and simply said “Please marry me?”.
It was such a sudden proposal, yet Sunwoo instantly teared up and nodded. “Yes, I’d love to annoy you for the rest of my life, hyung.” “I’d love to annoy you for the rest of my life too, Sunwoo.”
It still brings a smile to his face whenever he reminisces about how they got together.
Now, after 2 years of dating and one year of being married, Hyunjae can definitely say that their relationship has grown even stronger as they’ve learned a lot together.
However, despite spending their heats and ruts together, Hyunjae and Sunwoo decided that they are not ready to raise a child just yet.
Both of them are not completely opposed to the idea of children, but Sunwoo especially, has expressed that he can’t imagine taking care of a child. “The both of us are basically each other’s babies, hyung. Can’t really imagine two babies taking care of another baby.” Hyunjae did agree at the time, however, it has been awhile since they actually spoke about having a family.
Honestly, Hyunjae already felt ready to have a child for quite some time now. Ever since his sister gave birth 2 years ago, Hyunjae grew fond of his niece and couldn’t help but start to want a child of his own. However, he knew that Sunwoo wasn't ready yet.
After all, they also had a 3 year age difference and Hyunjae knew that parenting isn’t easy. Lately, however, the thoughts of having a family with Sunwoo just couldn’t leave Hyunjae’s mind.
So, on his way home he made a call and confided in Sangyeon about this, as he and his mate Juyeon, recently welcomed their newborn daughter to the world.
At first, Sangyeon laughed a bit knowing that Hyunjae wanted kids. “Are you sure? We both know that you and Sunwoo aren’t the best at taking care of kids.”
Hyunjae could understand where he’s coming from, since Hyunjae didn’t exactly give the best impression to Sangyeon’s nephew in the past.
“I knew you’d say that, but really.. my niece is so adorable, it makes me so happy every time I get to spend time with her.” Hyunjae smiles to himself as he continues.
“Can’t help but think ‘Hey, wouldn’t my kid with Sunwoo be just as adorable?’” On the other line, Sangyeon smiled from listening to Hyunjae’s words and was quick to give him some advice.
“Well, if the thought of having a family alone makes you happy— then, I think it’s time for you to talk this out with Sunwoo? You’ve been together for quite some time, who knows, maybe he feels ready too?”
At Sangyeon’s response, Hyunjae starts to think to himself. He can’t help but feel nervous bringing up the topic alone, but at the same time he knows that he can always be honest with his lover. “I’ll try, hyung. Wish me luck.”
Once Hyunjae arrived home, he was greeted by his lover who is still focused on typing away at his computer. As a freelance musician slash composer, Sunwoo spends most of his days creating music at home, while Hyunjae settles for a job in finance and is basically the common corporate slave.
“I’m home, baby. Still working on your latest piece?” Hyunjae made his way to Sunwoo’s desk, leaning in closer to gently peck the younger’s cheek.Sunwoo stopped working to properly welcome his husband home, hugging his waist as he nuzzles into Hyunjae’s stomach before looking up at him.
“Mhm, but I’m almost done! Oh, your sister invited us over for dinner again. She said your niece asked for you earlier today! Looks like she’s missing her uncle. Pretty cute.” Hyunjae grinned at that.
‘This would be a good time to talk about kids with Sunwoo’ he thought to himself. “Really? Looks like I really am a great uncle. Let’s go to their house once you’re done, love.”
Sunwoo nodded before getting back to work, “Oh, hyung— don’t forget to bring the doll you got for her yesterday.”
Hyunjae was slightly taken aback at that, he didn’t expect Sunwoo to remember since he almost forgot about it himself too. He thanked the younger for the reminder, before heading off to change his clothes and making sure he’ll bring the doll along.
As soon as Sunwoo finished with his work, they headed straight over to his sister’s house. Hyunjae asked for Sunwoo to hold onto his niece’s doll while he drove, and the younger obliged.
“I bet she’s going to like you even more after this, this is like the hundreth doll you got her.” the omega chuckled to himself as he looked at the doll in his lap.
“I can’t help it, I instantly had a soft spot for her ever since she turned one. Guess, I do have some instincts of an uncle in me.” Sunwoo hums at that, before glancing at his husband. “Well, it does make me happy to see you happy when you’re with her too.”
Hyunjae thought that this would be the moment to ask about kids again, but he felt that it’s best to talk once they’re on their way back home instead. This time, Hyunjae had a plan, he’ll try to convince Sunwoo to spend more time with his niece along with him to see how he’d manage as well.
Upon arriving at his sister’s house, the couple were ushered to eat dinner first while they caught up about their daily lives. After dinner, it was time for Hyunjae to play with his niece. “Sunwoo-ya, how about you give her the doll this time? I bet she’d be just as happy.”
There was a slight hesitance in Sunwoo’s expression, but the younger nodded and slowly approached the 2 year old who was sitting on the floor. With the doll in his hand, Sunwoo slowly placed the doll beside the child.
“Uncle Sunwoo and uncle Hyunjae brought another present for you. Do you like it?” The young girl quickly took the doll in her arms and giggled, as she managed to mumble a thank you.
Sunwoo’s expression quickly softened at the child’s reaction and Hyunjae noticed how his mate couldn’t help but grin at his niece. “See, she’s really happy you gave it to her this time.” Hyunjae whispered, nudging Sunwoo’s shoulder with his elbow and laughed as the younger simply rolled his eyes.
The couple played with Hyunjae’s niece for a little while and Hyunjae was really thankful at how Sunwoo managed to play along with him. Sure, the younger was a little more passive than Hyunjae, but he tried his best to follow Hyunjae’s actions to entertain his niece.
“Aww, you guys look so cute. I can’t wait until you have a kid of your own too, Hyunjae-ya. I bet both of you would spoil your child too.” Hyunjae’s sister said as she watched the couple with her daughter. Upon listening to her words, Hyunjae just laughed it off and nodded, but he instantly glanced at Sunwoo.
The younger looked taken aback, however, he simply nodded along as well. Hyunjae was a little worried, he truly hoped that his sister’s words did not make Sunwoo uncomfortable.
Once it’s time for Hyunjae’s niece to go to bed, the couple decided to head back home. The drive home was a little tense, Hyunjae could feel that the both of them were holding back to talk about what his sister said. “Sunwoo.. I hope what my sister said didn’t bother you too much.” Sunwoo immediately said no, assuring his husband that it was fine.
“It’s fine, hyung. We have been married for a year and.. we were playing with your niece together. I get why she would say that.” Hyunjae let out a sigh of relief, but he knew that this time they had to talk about this further.
“Honestly, spending time with my niece made me realize that I would love to have a family with you, love.” Hyunjae glanced at Sunwoo while he continued to drive and he noticed that the younger was looking back at him, slightly surprised at his words.
“I talked to Sangyeon hyung about this and he laughed at me at first. He said we aren’t good with kids— which is kinda true but..”
Just as Hyunjae stopped at a red light, he placed his hand on Sunwoo’s thigh, giving it a gentle squeeze. “I thought that we can always learn, right? Just imagining how cute our kid would look makes me happy, you know.”
Then, the light turns green and Hyunjae’s back to driving again. There was a pause as Sunwoo’s yet to respond to him, but then he felt the omega place his hand on top of his and give it a gentle squeeze in return.
“You know that I like being the cutest in our household, right?” Hyunjae takes in a breath, he thought that this was a gentle ‘no’ to his words until Sunwoo continued to speak.
“..but I’m sure that our kid would turn out just as cute as me. Maybe we can both become the cutest together, that doesn’t sound so bad to me.” Hyunjae took another quick glance at Sunwoo who was now looking out the window while he nervously fiddled with Hyunjae’s fingers.
“I.. of course, then I’d be very lucky to be in the presence of two of the cutest beings to ever exist. Sounds pretty good to me— another baby to spoil along with my baby here.”
Hyunjae tried his best to conceal his excitement, he really did not want to push his husband into this idea but hearing that he’s open to having kids now is such a blessing to him.
“But of course, only whenever you’re ready, love. You’d be the one carrying our child and I know it won’t be easy.” Then, Hyunjae feels the younger slowly intertwining their fingers together.
“I know you’ll take good care of me, hyung. You always do, even though you also demand to be spoiled in return.” Sunwoo chuckles as he moves to lean his head onto his husband’s shoulder, he then whispers “..I’m ready.”
Thankfully, it was right when they arrived home, or else Hyunjae would probably hit the brakes of the car abruptly if they were still on the road.
Both Hyunjae and Sunwoo aren’t the best at expressing themselves through words, and so all Hyunjae could manage to do was immediately pull Sunwoo into an embrace.
The older kissed his husband’s forehead and caressed his back, all the while he couldn’t stop himself from smiling widely. “Thank you, Sunwoo-ya. Thank you.” Sunwoo returned the hug, laughing softly at how excited Hyunjae was.
“You better take good care of me while I’m pregnant or—“ “or else you’ll kick me in the ass. Just like what you said during your drunken confession.” Hyunjae earned a light slap on his arm due to his witty reply.
Once they are both tucked into bed, all cuddled up against each other, Hyunjae looks into Sunwoo’s eyes and starts wiggling his eyebrows mischievously. “So, my dearest husband— when can we start the baby making process?” That earned Hyunjae another slap on his arm.
“Knew you’d say shit like this, what an insufferable alpha.” Sunwoo teasingly replied as he leaned in to kiss his husband.
“Who knows when we’ll start? It could be next week, my next heat or.. right now?” Sunwoo gently nips Hyunjae’s lower lip before pulling away to move, purposely turning his back against his alpha. “Just kidding.”
Hyunjae dramatically whined at Sunwoo’s antics, tickling his sides to get him to face his alpha again. “Always such a tease, my insufferable omega.”
For now, the couple would delay the process for just a little bit longer. However, both of them are very much aware that Sunwoo’s heat is due pretty soon.
Knowing that the couple enjoy teasing each other on a daily basis, they’re pretty sure the ‘process’ would be starting soon enough with no problems.
