in the dimly lit room, your eyes opened, vision blurred and mind fuzzy. it was only after a few blinks did you finally took notice of the arm on your chest. you turned your head and can’t help but smile. vine staff looked heavenly in her most peaceful state. her chest rose and fell in a soothing pattern, soft snores escaping her lips every now and then. you pulled the blanket over the two of you and sighed in contentment.
in just a few seconds, you felt her shift. she couldn’t have woken up, could she? you stayed still, watching her face twitch, her movements stopping from time to time. eventually, her lids rose and she immediately smiled at you. her motions have an alluring feel to it.
“good morning…” her voice was soft and laced with sleep. she wasn’t able to stifle her yawn. vine staff turned around and you followed her gaze, eyes landing on the bedside clock.
“it’s 5:26am, huh?” you heard her mutter. you knew she had to wake up early to help with breakfast. you gave her a hum and took hold of her arm, a silent plead for her to stay.
vine staff began stirring a second time before finally sitting up on the bed. the arm that was in your grasp moved for her hand to caress your face.
she brushed your cheekbone and stroked your nose, tapping on the tip. the giggle she let out was simply angelic. her palm ended up cupping your cheek, the look of adoration playing in her eyes.
did she get the message? you wonder, basking in the warmth of her palm. you nearly closed your eyes to savor the moment.
but then she started standing up.
“w-wait!” the word came out rough and hoarse, but that didn’t matter. vine staff quickly shifted her attention to you and went back to the bed.
you cleared your throat. “can’t you stay a little longer?”
there was a faint chuckle.
“how can i refuse my flower?” she says as she pushes herself under the covers. another sigh of satisfaction left you. “what about breakfast? shuri might get all grumpy again.”
“then let him get all grumpy. i just wanna stay here with you.”
vine staff responded with a tender embrace, one which enveloped you quite nicely. she smelled like the finest bouquet the world has to offer. you snuggled closer to her chest and she only held you tighter. she makes you feel so loved beyond words.
“is there a reason why you were up so early? did you get a nightmare, perhaps?”
you shook your head in return to her question. “i just woke up, ‘s all.”
you heard her hum and allowed your eyelids to fall. her hand rubbed up and down your back.
if there’s a way to preserve this moment forever, you’d do it in a heartbeat. there’s nothing like being in the warmth of her arms.
