Our Plans

Summary:

What starts with an argument over Thing's nails quickly becomes a talk about Wednesday's and Enid's future together.

Notes:

After all this time, I'm finally back with more Wenclair! Hey, gang! Happy to be back! I hope you enjoy my new work, and sorry for taking such a long break! A lot of shit happened to me recently that made it pretty difficult for me to even want to get out of bed in the morning, but I'm back and I'm writing!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Deep breaths.

Wednesday pinched the bridge of her nose as she stared blankly at the floor, the sight on the other side of the room too overwhelming for her at the moment.

“Weds, I’m sorry!” she could hear Enid apologizing, though her apology fell on deaf ears.

“You promised you would never do such a vile thing again, Enid!” Wednesday cried in frustration. “You swore to me on the blood of your mother! Does your mother mean nothing to you?!”

“...Is that a serious question?”

Wednesday finally looked up at Enid, finding a blank expression on her face, a direct opposite of the colors all over her side, and in her hand, Enid held Thing, the reason for Wednesday’s frustration. Normally Wednesday would appreciate Thing being around her, knowing he was a constant source of support and familial comfort for her, but now…

“Come on, don’t you like him, even a little?” Enid asked eagerly, raising the disembodied hand to Wednesday’s eye level.

“I would like him more if he returned to his original state,” Wednesday stated simply, narrowing her eyes at her roommate.

“I thought you liked black!”

“I do!” Wednesday answered, then gestured at Thing’s nails, “But black and pink do not mix well!”

“Thing looks amazing!” Enid argued, “And don’t you dare diss Blackpink!”

“What?”

“It’s a K-pop group!” Enid explained, before quickly saying, “Fine! If you don’t like how Thing looks, then I’m taking him in the divorce!”

“Divorce?” Wednesday repeated slowly. “What divorce? Enid, we have yet to marry.”

“Well, then I’ll marry your dumb ass and divorce you for Thing’s sake!”

“As if I would allow you to divorce me. If you marry me then you will be stuck with me until the day both of our bones rot into nothing but dust, and in my last will and testimony I will make it to where my wife, Enid Sinclair, will not be allowed to remarry if she wants to keep my family wealth.”

Enid scoffed loudly as she rose from her bed, stepping close to Wednesday and folding her arms over her chest, jutting her chin up and declaring, “Please, I’m not marrying you for your money! If I just wanted to marry for money, then there are much easier people to get along with than Wednesday Addams! I’m going to marry you because I love you, my darling raven idiot!”

“You had better mean that,” Wednesday threatened lightly, “I would hate to have to curse your entire lineage over your deceitful lies.”

“You’d better not curse our kids!” Enid huffed, raising her hands into Wednesday’s view, “Including Thing!”

“Thing isn’t our child, Enid.”

“He’s pretty much our kid. We do baby him a lot.”

You baby him,” Wednesday said pointedly, “Thing is essentially a brother to me. And what makes you assume we’re having kids?”

Enid went silent a moment, and Wednesday could only guess what her answer would be, her stance immediately becoming less rigid as Enid took a deep breath.

Enid’s eyes fell away from Wednesday’s, her voice barely a whisper as she murmured, “You know about my family and what I went through, and why I don’t have much contact with them anymore. I never really liked my family, but I always tried to at least connect with them, though it didn’t work out so well for me. I’ve always wanted to… feel like I belong somewhere, and since I don’t really have a family anymore, I’d like to make one of my own.”

Wednesday stayed silent a moment, allowing them both to fully register Enid’s statement as she raised a hand to swipe away at a single tear sliding down Enid’s cheek. It became apparent after a minute that Enid wanted physical affection of some sort, her own arms wrapping around her middle as if to support her ribs. Wednesday wordlessly agreed to Enid’s request, holding Enid close to her.

“If that’s your reason, then I would love to build a family with you,” Wednesday whispered softly.

“Are you sure?” Enid asked, a small sniffle running through her question, “I thought you didn’t like the idea of having a family.”

“You are misremembering, I didn’t wish to become a housewife, but even that doesn’t sound like a death sentence with you as the mother of our children.”

“You’d be a mom too, Weds,”

“Yes, but not one nearly as good as you will be,”

“You’re gonna be a great mom, Weds!” Enid assured, pulling her head away from Wednesday’s shoulder and wiping her nose on her index finger. “But I have to admit, there are a few things that you could work on.”

“Like what?” Wednesday demanded lightly. “I thought you said I was perfect.”

“Yeah,” Enid nodded, “Perfect for me! But our kids might find you a bit scary.”

“Then I will try to adapt to having kids in the future, okay?”

“Deal!” Enid grinned, placing a quick kiss on Wednesday’s nose before touching it lightly with her index finger. “So…does that mean you aren’t mad about Thing?”

“I am incredibly annoyed with you and Thing for that horrendous attempt at body paint,” Wednesday said, “But I guess there are some things you have to forgive your wife for.”

“Yay!”

“Just remember who you’re marrying one day, Mrs. Enid Addams,” Wednesday smirked, eager for the day that would happen.

“You too, Mrs. Wednesday Sinclair.”
