New York, NY
Summer was about to end soon and Ade didn't like it. She loved New York summer very much. Even though as a vampire, she couldn't face the sun and be outside, she still loved the season. As a human child, she enjoyed summers a lot as she used to go to abroad trips with her family and made very happy and precious memories. But, that was when she was a human child. Now, she's an adult vampire. She has a successful business called "Augustines Private Ltd". When she was reunited with her teenage love, Gaius, she was over the moon. After Gaius found out that her company's name included his surname, he couldn't be more happier. He was extremely proud of his wife.
Today, it was 30th August.
Ade was in a Café waiting for Adrian to arrive as they had a meeting to attend in an hour and they had decided to leave together.
She was scrolling through social media when a teenage boy spilled an old man's drink
on the ground and a little on him and the
boy started laughing.
The old man was unable to speak no one came forward to help him.
Ade was about to give the boy a piece of her mind when a guy interrupted the boy's laugh.
He took the boy's coffee and threw it in
the trash bin and was about to speak
when another person threw his coffee
on the boy.
The boy screamed.
Then a few other people did the same.
One of them threw it on the floor and the boy ended up falling.
The guy who threw the coffee in the
trash told the boy,
"What goes around, comes around.
If you repeat the same thing with anyone every again, it'll be much worse than this."
The boy now feeling humiliated ran away in tears. The old man looked at the guy,
"Thank you for helping me, son."
The guy smiled,
"Please don't thank me.
Here, let me get another coffee for you."
He ordered the same coffee for the old man while they spoke and Ade was surprised.
She stood up from her seat and started to clap. The guy looked at her with a smile.
The rest of the Café joined in as well.
Soon, the clapping stopped and old man
got his coffee.
Ade checked her watch, Adrian was late. When she looked up, she saw the guy approaching her.
He pulled out a seat beside her and asked,
"May I?"
Ade nodded.
He took a seat and for a while they looked
at each other in silence.
Ade spoke,
"Thank you for doing what you did. The boy deserved. And I was going to tell him that."
The guy smiled.
"I know I saw you before it already.
Name's Jake. Jake Tweneboah."
He offered his hand.
"Adeeba. Adeeba Augustine."
They shook hands.
"Aren't you one of those vampires who ended up saving New York from Rheya back in 2020?"
"Yes."
"I see. How's it being a vampire, if I can ask?"
Ade took a sip of her cold coffee, wondering how to answer that question.
Vampires weren't a secret from the world anymore and it's been a long time since anyone has asked her this question.
"Survivable."
He nodded. There was an awkward silence between them for a while.
"So do you live here in New York or came
for a visit?", Ade asked.
"I came here for a visit with my girlfriend.
I take it, you live here."
"Yes. I do."
"You're the CEO of Augustine Private Ltd."
"Yes."
"Hmm."
"Seem to have a lot of interest in me."
"Me? Oh I just found more about you after
you and your friends came out as vampires to the world."
"You did that to be my friend?"
"I thought we already are now that we've talked."
Ade smiled. Yeah they were.
"You're not entirely wrong."
"Happy to know that."
They spent time talking about a lot of things. They had a lot in common.
"What's your Zodiac Sign?", Jake asked.
"I don't believe in it."
"But still. What is it?"
Ade took a sip of her drink narrowing her eyes as she studied him a little more carefully.
"Aquarius."
"Oh wow. I'm a Sagittarius."
"Okay?"
"Why you aren't happy?"
"I don't believe in this stuff and your reaction was weird."
"Oh I understand. Sagittarius people are adventurous, fun loving, outgoing and cheerful as well."
"I can see that."
"We should meet more so you can find out."
"But, you don't live in New York. "
Jake was silent. She was right.
"Yeah I know. But, how about the next time
we meet when I come back?"
"You'll come back?"
"Yes. Why?"
"Because we Aquarius people are optimistic and clever. I thought you knew that?"
They laughed together and exchanged numbers when Adrian approached them.
"Sorry I'm late. We can go now."
Ade nodded and got up from her seat.
Adrian looked at her new friend.
"See you later, Jake."
"See you, Ade."
Then, Ade and Adrian exited the Café
and he asked,
"Who was he?"
"My new friend, Jake.
Don't worry I'll introduce you next time."
Adrian smiled as he nodded.
They continued talking as they walked together. Ade and Jake were really excited to see each other next time and they couldn't wait.
