Echoes of the Past

Summary:

A few days after she brought him home, Eda finds herself bonding with King.

Work Text:

The strange creature, who now goes by the name King, has really grown on her. Eda thought she was getting a pet when she brought him home, but after hearing him talk and watching his actions, she can tell he’s much smarter than an animal. She doesn’t quite know what he is, but she knows he’s young and vulnerable and would have been in terrible danger if someone else stumbled across that strange building that day. And as the days go by, she finds herself becoming increasingly protective and affectionate towards her new house guest.

For example, when she first brought King home, Eda would never have dreamed of letting him sleep in her nest. And yet… here she is, lying in her nest less than a week after King appeared in her life with the adorable creature curled up beside her, fast asleep. She even tucks a blanket tighter around King, but she wouldn’t admit that to anyone else. After all, she’s still Eda the Owl Lady, and that won’t change just because she wants to keep this adorable ball of fur safe.

---

When she awakes the next morning with King snuggled up on her belly, Eda doesn’t move him, instead putting her hand on King’s back, stroking his fur.

Okay, maybe she’s getting attached to King. She just can’t help it. He’s just so gosh darn adorable.
