Chapter 1: Her Wish and Revelation
Chapter Text
A fervent wish for his safe return.
That was the wish that brought him right out of the clutches of certain death while away in nothingness, in a space bereft of life, without the people he cared for. With the ringing of a familiar device, while flooded by memories of his travels, in a sudden flash, he was transported back to the star he saved.
He hears voices, distant pleas for him to come back and, suddenly… The cries of someone he deeply cares for.
“You can’t leave us… Not like this…” That light of hope, carried in her voice strengthens his senses. “If you do, I’ll never forgive you… So, come on! Open your eyes and get up!”
It’s enough to give him the strength he thought had completely left him before. Dynamis? He could only wonder. His eyes slowly open to the presence of twins. Alisaie crying so close to him, Alphinaud and Urianger trying to nurse him back to health, while Estinien observed closely in the back. Alisaie glances over to him, eyes widening as she lets out a gasp. Though he hears her, the warrior can do no more than blink, try to catch his breath, Slowly, his ears finally react to the voices speaking, and his tail sways with difficulty as he lays down.
“Is everyone alright?” Is his question, despite all that has happened. And though he seems in good shape, sitting down and informing his wounds had been well-treated, his vision is still blurry. And his body is weak. He hears the girl shout.
“Damn you! Damn you for making us worry!” Her voice is the last one he hears, his ears twitching weakly at the distressed tone of the girl. He can see her teary eyes clear, and he feels a desire to bring her comfort but…
Alisaie… He wanted to utter her name, yet… Just as quickly as he gained consciousness, it slipped away.
The Scions had worked tirelessly for Ezikiel to be nursed back to health. A great many days had gone by with him going in and out of consciousness, groaning in pain, and returning to slumber. The chirurgeons worked day and night for the Savior of Etheirys, hoping to somehow repay him for his tireless efforts.
And, though it takes them a great many days, Ezikiel is eventually stabilized enough that he can stay up for longer than some bells. Once the chirurgeons proudly inform that their friend has made it through, The Scions are overjoyed, yet it is one of them who rushes right into the room where their friend and savior was set to rest.
“Ezikiel! You fool! ” Alisaie all but screams as she bursts into the room. Stopping on her tracks, she noticed the Miqo’te’s eyes flutter open and her heart jumps. It had been a while since she last saw him, his image, covered in the white of the room along with the sheets covering half of his body – it felt like he was finally taking the rest he should’ve since the beginning. He was finally safe, he was back from his tireless efforts to bring their world from the brink of destruction. And, somehow, her eyes seem to grow watery, but she holds her tears back. Rushing to him, she sits by the stool on his side, he follows her with his gaze. He seems gentle, relieved.
“Alisaie,” he could finally say it, his voice hoarse from the struggle of slumbering for so long. Yet, there is a comforting smile to him. “You are alright…”
“ Of course , I am! You– You did much and more for us. It is you who got the brunt of this whole endeavor!” Alisaie speaks, voice high as she feels her fingers shake. She is happy, but by the gods does she also feel an overwhelming sense of guilt, of fear . “Your wounds, have they taken proper care of them? You’re not going to lose consciousness on us again, right?”
Ezikiel’s ears perk up in response as he avoids the girl’s gaze. Shaking his head, he gives no verbal response.
“Ezikiel…” She whispers, leaning closer. “I need you to tell me, please. If you need more help I can tell Alphinaud to heal you further, surely he–”
“We needn’t speak about me… Alisaie, I am alright.” As he says this, he cannot help but groan slightly at the movement he made, trying to sit down on the bed. The Elezen girl notices and stands, lifting her hand as a sign for him to stop.
“Let me help you this time. You shouldn’t be walking yet, but I’m sure they will at least allow me to push you with a wheelchair. I’ll be quick.” And just before Ezikiel could stop her, hoping not to be a burden, she runs out towards the nearest chirurgeon. And as she returns, one of the medics comes along with her, helping her carry Ezikiel to the seat.
“Alright, now we can continue our chat better, no? You’ve been staring at these walls for far too long.” Alisaie comments as she starts pushing the wheelchair out of the room, and Ezikiel chuckles, nodding.
For a bit, the man grows quiet, mismatched eyes trying to adjust to the light of the outside again. The girl seems determined to push him somewhere nice – a place with a view, where he can relax and gaze at the world he had succeeded in saving. She understands the reason for his silence, he had many things to ponder upon, she went through the same once she saw him return, while she waited for the chirurgeons to bring his consciousness fully back. Thank the gods he is here, with me. Thank the gods that I can take him somewhere nice, somewhere we can both talk by ourselves…
That fervent wish to have him close had brought him back and she couldn’t be more grateful for dynamis, for his own strength. And the wheelchair stops up top of a small hill, a beautiful view near the city. Alisaie finally takes a deep breath.
“So, where were we?” She asks and Ezikiel finally speaks again.
“Have you been… alright?” He lifts his hand towards the back of the wheelchair trying to reach for the girl’s hand.
“No–no… The real question here is; have you been alright? Are you sure you are not groggy or ill? I must make sure your wounds have been well treated.” She turns over to his side, trying to get a better look, but he shakes his head.
“Alisaie… I insist, you shouldn’t worry–”
“But I do worry. Because you are…” she pauses, yet she feels no need to hold back. “You are worth worrying about. You’ve always been.”
She knew there was no use trying to push Ezikiel to talk about his wounds directly. Instead, maybe she could get him to open up in other ways. Nodding now towards his initial question does she keep her eyes on him, placing a hand against the outstretched one and moving it to rest on his side. She holds onto it, tight.
“You saved all of us , our world… We’re doing more than alright, you shouldn’t even doubt that for a second.” She says and the Miqo’te shakes his head.
“What about you , Alisaie?” He corrects and the girl can’t help but feel her cheeks grow red. Ever caring, he was, despite being so reserved. She can see that glint of care, of consideration now from up close. Oh, how he burns with life, and how it suits him.
“Well, I cannot deny I had been… worried sick for you, all of this time. It’s been a couple of days since you returned to us… I was worried that maybe you had come back only to fade away. It… frightened me to no avail.” Though she is usually strong, alone here with him she can show her vulnerability, her worries to him – only him. She glances away, stroking the boy’s hand with her thumb as she holds onto him for dear life, his tail jolts only for a bit at the sensation – it was very pleasant. He observes her, untangled hairs rustling against the wind of the wilds, just as her own.
“Alisaie…” It rolls off his tongue with such ease, even though he felt guilt for her worries. “Back there, at Ultima Thule… I felt the same. Seeing you go, carve a path with your will for me… It hurt to see you go.”
And, for yet another moment, clear silence. They had gone through a lot together… Just like that, when everything seemed hopeless, the two had brought hope to each other. She ponders upon it, this silence encouraging her.
“Ezikiel, I–… I must tell you something. I’m unsure if you’d care to listen, but…”
“Of course, Alisaie, anything you’d want to say, I would love to listen.” His earnest words always serve to let her defenses down. And, suddenly, she feels nervousness as his attention rests fully upon her. His eyes study her and she wonders just what he is thinking – but she has to hold that back, grabbing that courage she was known to have, instead.
“When I feared we might lose you… When I did not know the outcome of your fight against despair itself I– I tried to draw away my own despair, my own worries.” She replaced them with unwavering trust. Ezikiel always kept his words, his promises. He was the Warrior of Light, he was bound to return and yet, fear crawled over the tip of her toes, wondering if maybe that victory of his came with a huge price. “But I kept thinking about the possibility that you’d sacrifice yourself for this world – that maybe you would not return.”
Strong, glowy eyes are decorated with lingering waters, the ones she kept holding back. After all, even remembering that possibility hurt her soul more than anything else. She moves her hand away from his own and clenches her fists instead, turning to gaze at the horizon he won them. The skies are decorated in rosy and orange colors – hues of serenity and beauty, much like him, like his hairs and the way he glanced at the future with unwavering hope.
“And at that moment I noticed that I still had much and more to say to you.” She stops and Ezikiel tries to speak, taking a deep breath, worrying for the girl.
“Alisaie, I–” He had his own regrets while fighting, his own lingering doubts as he gazed at the open space of nothingness… He thought maybe he would not return and his personal story would remain incomplete, that he would not be able to go back to them, to her … But, if that was the sacrifice he needed to make for the world, he’d be willing to continue through with it and yet… Never did he expect for Alisaie to be suffering just as much for him. To think that maybe she needed more of him as he needed of her.
“I mean to say…” She pauses, turning to him, finally the tears roll out across her cheeks. “I love you, Ezikiel. I love you so much I would give up the world for you, as selfish as that may seem… I would give myself for you to prevail time and time again. Yet, more than that, if the world was ending ever again, I’d give anything just to touch your hand one last time, to keep myself close to you as the world burns.”
The words grasp and pull him into a rush of surprise, eyes widening along with the tight perking of his ears and straightening of his tail at the weight of the confession. This was followed by the loud rustling of the trees, the feeling of upcoming downpour. The skies are still a canvas of gentleness, nature’s aroma engulfing the two as if this had been predetermined. Yet, even with the beauty of the scenery surrounding them, they could not part their eyes from each other. She stares right at those mismatched eyes and he stares right back at hers, tears and all. And he feels a joy, mending the wounds he had taken time and time again during his adventures.
Together, they had faced many things, they had seen themselves during highs and lows, their feelings strengthening. But even with the mutual understanding they developed did they doubt if the other felt the same, kept it a secret, kept it to themselves and pushed through. Ezikiel never expected Alisaie to confess as to something so deep like this towards him and yet, happiness comes, a relief as if he had been waiting for this for eons. That shocked expression slowly turns into a content smile and he reaches for her hand again, managing to grab it and nudge her closer. He feels her, she is shaking, just as nervous as he is.
“You’ve been carrying these feelings all by yourself… I did not know.” He felt tranquility at the thought. Now, he could share such feelings with her. Or, rather, he could let her know she was not alone. “I will not leave you hanging, not anymore.”
As he says this he encourages her to step close, their bodies only divided by the wheelchair between them. His hand is placed over her back to lean her over him and, soon, he locks lips. Finally, it feels like they have reached true peace. Alisaie can feel her heart race, beating with an emotion she never thought she’d be able to feel, but appreciative of it. She let herself drown in it, closing her eyes, letting tears still flow while she gave in and placed a gentle hand over the man’s shoulder.
And he feels the same, heart racing in a steady rhythm as his body feels alive. After days of dormant uncertainty, he can truly confirm he was back here. He had returned to them, to her, and he could now take a chance to live for himself, for his desires, for those feelings he had been carrying with him in silence. This was his answer, he loves her back, there is no room for doubt.
Drip. As they both refuse to part, a droplet falls over the girl’s cheek, and then the boy’s ear, receptively jolting. Drip–drip , quickly do the drops start falling from the sky, a rumbling in the distance announcing what was to come. Their eyes open, cheeks reddened as they part and, just as they do, the rain pours relentlessly.
Alisaie and Ezikiel glance at each other and, in unison, start laughing at their predicament.
“I think this is our sign to get going, huh?” Ezikiel says and the Elezen nods, still laughing heartily.
“Yes, you are right. I wouldn’t want to be the cause of you falling ill while in recovery. The others must be wondering where we went, anyway.” She says before moving towards his back to turn the wheelchair, running down the road back to the infirmary, a wide smile between her rosy semblance. Ezikiel takes in the breeze, smiling to himself, ears rocking from opposing sides in serenity, the hairs of his tail rising at the lowered temperature and his heightened emotions.
That fervent wish for his safe return gave the two a new start to their story and they would undeniably make the most of it.
Chapter 2: The Wake of a Revelation
Summary:
“Before I say anything, I want you both to know my reasons for coming here.” Ezikiel clears his throat, feeling it dry up. Even though apparently Ameliance knew, he still wanted to deliver this in a way that both parents would approve of. “I’m here to formally ask for your daughter’s hand.”

Chapter Text
After their confession, the two had been closer than ever, through a world that seemed to have quieted down.
It didn’t take the Scions long to catch up on it, seeing as the dynamic had changed with Alisaie being much more proactive in her aid towards the boy’s recovery and the time they spent together. Alisaie’s brother Alphinaud was the first one to ask his sister, noticing the closeness between her and the Warrior of Light almost immediately. Of course, she wouldn’t keep it a secret from him, revealing that, yes, they were dating.
“Congratulations, dear sister! I am hoping your relationship is most prosperous!” Alphinaud said, a little louder than the two expected along with a hug the girl was trying to pull away from. Despite that, it was too late, as the voice echoing in the room prompted the other Scions to gather around the Elezen twins. They had been waiting for the right moment to congratulate her and this seemed to be the one. They all showered Alisaie in words of affirmation and blessings.
After that day, they all congratulated Ezikiel too, when they went to visit him, helping him get better along with the chirurgeons. At first, he felt slightly embarrassed, but he gradually grew happier and happier the more he was congratulated. He wouldn’t speak about his feelings out loud, but his friends knew just how joyful he truly was without need for words. This only made his meetings with Alisaie all the sweeter. She’d be the one to take him around strolls on the city, around nature, even just around the room itself. It was never a dull moment and the two felt closer to each other.
Their love only grew and, as it did, so did Ezikiel start to get better. Sure, he was still in need of constant rest and therapy, but he was more cheery, more determined, stronger.
“Great job today, Ezikiel!” Alisaie comments with a cheery tone as she sits down on the edge of the bed alongside him. A smile presents itself the moment he hears the girl speak and the two share a small peck on the lips. Even though it had been a whole month since they confessed, they still felt a little nervous to kiss so freely. Yet, they both enjoyed it, evident by the pink color on the girl’s cheeks and the way the boy’s ears twitched excitedly and relaxed.
“Thank you, Alisaie,” he says in a soft tone before the girl clears her throat. It seems like she has something to say and Ezikiel is quick to pick up on it, eyes on her, ears drooping in worry. “Is there something wrong?”
His question makes the girl jolt a little bit before she shakes her head.
“No, not really…” She muses, turning away, feeling her cheeks grow hot and red. The Miqo’te tilts his head, wondering.
“Something is going on, no? Are you alright? Did I do something wrong?” He seems to be panicking but the girl turns to him, eyes wide, shaking her head yet again.
“No–no! Nothing like that, Ezikiel! I just– well …”
“Well…?” The wait makes the boy grow desperate, tail swaying wildly.
“You’re my first boyfriend… ever , so I–I want you to…” Alisaie takes a deep breath and, determined, turns to glance at him. “I want you to meet my parents!”
“Uh…” Ezikiel is confused for a second, remembering the Leveilleur mansion, meeting both mother and father of the twins already. “I–”
“I know what you’re thinking; you already met them… But, hear me out. They met you as the Warrior of Light, not as… just yourself or as my boyfriend. I want you to meet them as my boyfriend. As just… you. A boy that likes a girl.”
His expression grows even more surprised, tail rising firm just as his ears before his cheeks grow red. He hadn’t thought of things quite the way Alisaie thought, after all, he had already met her parents and yet… She was right. He came as a hero, as a person with a mission, at most just an ally and friend. He hadn’t met her parents formally as her boyfriend – at most, he was just a friend before. And, if he wanted their relationship to become a much more serious one, he had to meet them yet again as a simple man, not a hero, just their child’s boyfriend. Thinking about it that way, he grew determined and nodded.
“You’re right, Alisaie. I… I want to meet them again, as your boyfriend. When should we do it?”
“I was thinking… Maybe tomorrow. My father will be able to return home early from The Forum and my mother suggested we dine with them. She is thrilled to meet you yet again.”
“Does your father know, too?”
“No, not really. I didn’t want to alarm him. Mother said it was better this way, so I listened. Father can be… quite antsy when it comes to things like these.” Alisaie comments and Ezikiel can’t help but let out a small chuckle. For how antagonistic he seemed to have acted the first time they met, the man was devoted to the people he loved. So much so that he would worry intensely for them, love them just as much and become overprotective, even. He could definitely understand that desire, that drive, despite once feeling like they would not be able to see eye to eye.
“Alright, then. I’ll get ready for tomorrow.”
“Is that truly alright? I know you need your rest and the voyage to Sharlayan may be long.”
“Don’t you worry, Alisaie, I will be alright. I’ll have plenty of time to rest on the ship, if needed.” A hand is placed over the girls to give her comfort and she ends up nodding and placing the other on top of his before leaning in for a small kiss on his cheek.
“Don’t complain on the way there, then, alright?” She sounds stern for a second but laughs immediately after before standing up and ushering the boy to rest.
“Sleep tight, Ezikiel. I’ll come look for you first thing in the morning.” She ends up saying before quietly leaving the room. It takes a bit for Ezikiel to sleep the night away, excitement looming like a tingling sensation over his body, but he eventually falls prey to exhaustion.
The next day, Alisaie is up early – or rather, she hadn’t been able to rest as much as she would’ve wanted – ready to wake the boy up. To her surprise, though, Ezikiel was also up and ready to move out. She wondered if maybe he had also been unable to sleep properly. He tried to stand the moment he saw her but she gestured for him to stay put, instead bringing the wheelchair in.
“Here, no need to strain yourself yet, there’ll be plenty of stairs to get to.” The girl says, helping him sit on the chair and pulling it right after. They reach a smaller ship than usual, carrying only a handful of passengers in it. There, she made sure to arrange a room for the boy where she could watch over him and allow for him to rest. Despite this, the Miqo’te takes the chance to stand and walk out, taking his girlfriend by the hand and inviting her to stare at the horizon.
“It’s like a small date,” he comments, feeling a little embarrassed after saying it out loud. The feeling is erased when the girl leans her head against his shoulder, sighing calmly.
“It does feel like one. It’s just you and me here.” No Scions in the vicinity, no missions to get to – unless you’d count their visit to her parents as one. So, without them around, the two took the liberty of holding hands, Ezikiel wrapping his free arm around the girl’s back and pulling her close. They spent a moment of tranquility as they watched the waves rock back and forth in idle chatter before finally spotting land, Thaliak’s statue greeting them before they arrived at shore.
Using the wheelchair to prevent Ezikiel from getting fatigued or hurting himself, Alisaie moved him over all the way to the Leveilleur Mansion right at the innermost corner of the city. They took in the sights on the way, always delighted to see Alisaie’s home and the people that would eagerly greet them both. Yet, the closer they got to the mansion, the more nervous the two felt.
Alisaie knew she could count on her mother, but she worried about her father’s approval. The least she wanted was for her to burst out against him in front of Ezikiel, again. Keep a cool head, she tried reminding herself before leaving the wheelchair for the servants to care for it and helping Ezikiel up the stairs.
As they go up towards the entrance, Ezikiel ponders upon the girl’s two parents – a mixture of excitement and nervousness seeping in. He knew them, but this time he wanted to know them as simply Ezikiel and, somehow, this was much more nerve-wracking than meeting as the warrior looking to save the star. A deep breath comes as the servants open the door.
“Mistress Leveilleur, Master Ashford, this way, the masters are waiting for you both in the dining room.” Swiftly, the two were led over to the right area where, right as the door opened, the two locked eyes with the older Elezens. A smiling one stands from her seat, welcoming them with open arms.
“There you two are! Thank you for coming all this way to meet us. It is an honor to see you once again, Ezikiel.” Ameliance speaks with a cheery but regal tone as she gestures for them to take a seat. Alisaie would be seated right by her father’s side while Ezikiel would be right by Ameliance’s side. The Miqo’te’s tail sways carefully, trying not to seem too nervous or too stiff. He wanted to impress the two and so, he walked over and sat by the woman’s side, a discreet smile appearing, his ears completely perked up.
As he dares turn towards his girlfriend’s father, he notices him staring daggers right back. If his ears could perk up any more than they already were, they would’ve… Instead, he stares back, eyes trying to remain with a cool and respectful demeanor and, just as Fourchenault seems about to say something, eyebrows knitting, muscles tensing, Ameliance glances back at him, stopping him on his tracks. The couple doesn’t really know how or where to start the conversation from. For so long they had been acting as only warriors, fighters, that simple things like these only seemed to be increasingly harder for them. Yet, they both glance at each other for a second, they have to break the ice. Taking an impulse, like Alisaie would usually do, Ezikiel is the first one to speak.
Fourchenault takes a deep breath, almost as if he had been plunged with a dagger to his heart, but he keeps himself in place, as calm as he can.
“Why don’t we start eating? The food will get cold if we don’t. As we do, I’d love to hear about how you two decided to date.” Ameliance speaks once more with excitement as the servants work on cue to serve the food. Fourchenault seems to relax only slightly, sighing and turning to his daughter, who nods to him firmly as if to tell him to trust in her a little further. Feeling a tension on his shoulders, he turns to Ameliance who is bright as the sun, ready to listen to Ezikiel and Alisaie. Though Fourchenault seems to want to say something, he allows for the boy to continue speaking the moment he sees him get ready to continue the conversation.
“After we managed to save the star… It felt like a big weight was lifted from our shoulders. But also…” The pause the boy took was enough for Alisaie to pick up where he left off.
“I realized – or, I suppose we did – nothing lasts forever. In the blink of an eye, we can lose many things. Our family name, our trust, our people – everything is tangible, even life itself. Yet, always… Ezikiel had been there for me, for us. I didn’t want to lose that.” Her face flushes almost as red as her attire and, as if he were a chameleon, Ezikiel’s face mimics the girl’s bright colors, a genuine smile present.
Ameliance is delighted by the way the young couple goes about their words and even their silence. This relationship seemed wholesome, it seemed to stem from genuine care. Yet, in contrast, Fourchenault remains with a stern face, as if he were holding something in. If she didn’t know him better, Ameliance would think he is mad, but she knows that man like the back of her hand. Overprotective to a fault, which prompts him to be stern, to not take things at face value. Though he is concerned, Ameliance trusts him to take the best decision. He had always been that way, even in The Forum, but especially with his family.
“Alisaie…” Fourchenault’s voice is incredibly soft and his hand goes to one of her hands, holding it tight. “You are oftentimes reckless, much wilder than your mild-mannered brother…”
His words make the girl groan, assuming he is about to scold her for throwing herself headfirst into something she hadn’t fully thought about. But she was ready to refute it, though it is her father who continues to speak first.
“But I know you always follow your heart. And, this time, I am sure that you are doing just that… The man who saved the world,... I am assuming that I can trust a man like that to make sure to keep my daughter’s heart safe and sound from breaking.” As Fourchenault mentions this, he turns to glance over at Ezikiel, who is quick to nod in determination, heterochromic eyes staring right back at the fatherly ones.
“I swear, sir. I will do my best to keep Alisaie safe and… to love her as dearly as she deserves.” And just as she loved him, but he held that back, feeling slightly embarrassed to mention anything else.
Finally, after staring at the Miqo’te down for almost a whole minute, prompting Alisaie to clear her throat just to get him to react, Fourchenault delivers a very faint smile and nods.
“Then, you both have Ameliance and my blessings.” That final verdict comes as a relief for the two young ones who sigh in audible relief almost at the same time. It prompts a giggle from Ameliance who then claps in joy at her husband’s acceptance.
“See? I told you it’d be alright, Alisaie!” Ameliance says, causing Alisaie to nod and Fourchenault to glance over at her in confusion. “Anyway, time for dessert!”
The family then enjoys a more amicable and relaxed meal, eating a delicious pie delivered from The Last Stand – a delicacy they could not often have but one they all thoroughly enjoyed.
Once done, Fourchenault is the first one to stand from the table.
“I have to go work on some things,... but you two can stick around for a bit longer. Ameliance would appreciate the company.” As he says this, he reaches over to his wife, squeezing her hand firmly before walking away. The woman turns to the two, the energy clear in her expression.
“What he meant to say is that he’d love for you both to stay the night here. We have guest rooms available, so Ezikiel is more than welcomed to choose one of them and rest. You two must be exhausted from the voyage, after all.”
“Thank you, Mother,” Alisaie says, and whispers a thank you to her Father as well before standing and turning to Ezikiel. “Come with me, Ezikiel! Before you rest, I have something to show you.”
Without a second thought, she rushes away towards the stairs. Ezikiel takes an impulse to stand up and, as he is about to follow Alisaie’s lead, he feels a hand hold onto his arm. Turning, he sees Ameliance, standing with a smile on her face.
“Hold on for a second, Ezikiel.”
“Is there something wrong, Miss Leveilleur?”
“Not at all, but… I wanted to tell you something.” Ezikiel’s body tenses up, he stares at her, stern, but hoping she does not notice. But, of course she does, sighing before leaning over to hug the boy. It shocks him for a good chunk of the hug, but he reciprocates, holding the woman tight.
“Welcome to the family. I know you’ll make her happy and I do hope, with all of my heart, that you are just as happy, too.”
Her words, so gracefully loving, so warm, feel as welcoming as the words of a real mother. She delivers the blessings upon the boy, parting away to look at him, her smile unwavering. Finally, she sees a more relaxed expression upon Ezikiel, one that she had never seen, not even when he had arrived there for the first time. It was easy to forget the famed Warrior of Light, a fellow Scion was just a regular man that just so happened to be able to deliver the world out of destruction. At his core, he was just a boy, one that just so happened to love their girl. Ameliance couldn’t be any more happier. Finally, she released the boy and prompted him to go with Alisaie.
“Thank you, Miss Leveilleur.”
“None of that, Ezikiel. You can call me Ameliance, you’re part of the family, after all.” She says and the boy nods, ears flicking in happiness before he rushes away, being careful not to strain his legs much. Though he felt even better than before, he still needed a bit more recovery and the stairs of the mansion were pretty long. Alisaie wasn’t wrong when she said he needed as much rest as he could before taking up the stairs of her home.
After a while of climbing up the stairs, being as careful as he could, he found himself lost, looking over for Alisaie from one side to the next.
“Over here!” Her familiar voice calls to him and he turns over right to find her at the balcony of the mansion. He didn’t know that was there until now, the doors opened for him to pass through. Jogging to her, he reaches and faces the starry night sky.
“This is amazing…”
“Isn’t it? Surprisingly, a better view than the one we had over the waves.” She pauses, sighing to herself as she leans over on the edge, looking over at the city, the lights of the houses all over, the distant water… They were high up that they could see so much beauty, so much peace. We still have this because of you, she wanted to say, but right now he was just Ezikiel. “Do you like it?”
“I love it. It’s an amazing view.”
“I wanted you to see it, to overlook the world as a part of it… To enjoy it. And, I wanted to thank you for speaking with Mother and Father. I can tell they loved you, even as just yourself.”
“You really think so, Alisaie? I feel like I stumbled at every second…”
“Not at all, you were impressive. You were you , most of all, and that was sufficiently charming itself.” At least, to her. “Honesty is the best way to go when it comes to my family.”
He would know, after all, that was part of the reasons why the girl appreciated him so much. The same thing went the other way – part of her own charm was how she never went against her own beliefs, even when the whole world could go against her, against them all. A smile forms as he eyes the twinkling stars, turning over to her, blue eyes already glancing right back at him. It makes his cheeks flush, flattered by the way she admires his expressions, by how she seems to enjoy his presence way more than the scenery they had before them.
And as he thinks of this, he realizes the same happens to him. There’s nowhere else he wants to look but towards her and those mesmerizing eyes, the way she tries to keep him safe and close with just one look, leaving him at her mercy. Without thought, their hands reach each other, uniting, intertwining fingers before they both give one step closer.
“Thank you, Alisaie, for trusting in me… For loving me.” He mentions and the girl exhales in a slight scoff. Did he know just who he was? She should be the one thanking him, she assumes, but instead, she goes along with it.
“It’s my pleasure. I won’t let go of you, as long as you won’t let go of me.” Having delivered their words, a wish upon a shooting star they both miss, their lips touch yet again and they feel a gust of wind blow gently against them. They hold each other close in an embrace, they let the seconds go by, enjoying the tranquility.
The world quiets down, yet they remain closer than ever.

Chapter Text
When they’re together, the months seem to go by with ease.
Before, they’d be nervous about their encounters. To kiss and feel each other, to speak about their relationship was nerve-wracking for the two. But now, after spending more time together, they started to feel more comfortable than ever. So much so, that they wouldn’t try to hold back in front of others.
In the blink of an eye, two months had gone by and the two continued to grow closer. Today, the two were busy, preparing for a small journey.
“Are you ready, Ezikiel?” Alisaie asks from over the other corner of the room, setting her braid neatly as she waits for the boy to come out. His recuperation had proceeded smoothly and it seemed like he was truly back on his feet now. He had been able to help the twins at Garlemald, even when they had to travel to different corners of the area, he was able to walk or mount and fly without feeling fatigued. As if nothing had happened, the boy that had saved the world was ready to explore it alongside the person he loved. But, first things first – he had to live in tranquility for a little while longer.
“I’m ready, Alisaie!” The boy says, opening the door, donning a suit that was not too formal, but not too casual, either. It went well with the red attire Alisaie was wearing – even having red garments to match her. A smile presents itself on the Elezen.
“You look amazing! You didn’t forget your swim trunks, right?” She is quick to mention before offering him her hand. He accepts it, ears twitching in delight before they both start to walk out the door.
“I didn’t forget! Did I take too long? You think they’ve been waiting for a while, already?”
“No. They did tell us to take our time, so they probably took theirs, too.”
“It’s been a while since we put aside some time to just… share.”
“Yeah, I suppose we weren’t the only ones busy. Who would’ve guessed that peace could be so full of things to do?” Alisaie chuckles along with Ezikiel. True enough, no tales or books actually share much about what happens after the world is saved. Instead of the relative peace that comes, everyone is much more interested in the turmoils of war and the calm before the storm. Now, they had gone through all of that, they had found themselves in what could only be described as ‘the peace after the storm’ had passed… And that entailed rebuilding and resetting, welcoming a new future and preparing for whatever could come afterwards. But also, it entailed actually enjoying themselves, appreciating the time they had together.
This was why the Scions had set up a get-together. Not only did they want to debrief each other on their recent findings and actions but they wanted to continue sharing with each other like they used to.
After all, even though the Scions had disbanded for the world, they were still working together, though on many different things.
Alisaie and Ezikiel had gone together alongside Alphinaud to aid the people of Garlemald and now, they were traveling on their way back to one of the main cities of Eorzea. There, their friends awaited on the outskirts, a picnic neatly set for the group.
“There they are! Sister, Ezikiel!” Alphinaud, who had gone on ahead and had arrived at the location bells ago, greets them before offering them a space right by his side. The other members raise their hands, waving to him.
“What took you so long? Having a little date of your own before coming to share with us?” Thancred tries to tease and Alisaie can only glare, ready to say something right back at him. Yet, it is Y’shtola who speaks.
“Don’t take him seriously, most of us only arrived just now. Take a seat, we’ll serve you some food.” Y’shtola invites before the two move to sit in the open space. Ezikiel takes a second to look from one side to the other and then back at Alisaie.
“Where’s G’raha Tia?”
“I was wondering the same thing. He must be running late.”
“He said something about… sandwiches. I took the chance to ask for some dry squid.” Estinien mentions as he sat right by Alphinaud’s side, waving only slightly at the two that had just arrived. Urianger hands over two plates full of different kinds of meals for the couple and, soon, Y’shtola starts speaking again.
“As you all know, this was Tataru’s idea and, yet, she said she was too busy improving some of her own endeavors to join. Despite that, she suggested we make sure to actually debrief ourselves on what we are doing… and make sure that the Warrior doesn’t overexert himself. Oh– and also let her know how it’s going for the happy couple.”
A small laugh comes out of Ezikiel, feeling his cheeks grow hot at the thought. The whole group was always very caring of them and their relationship was something they all seemed to appreciate, even Tataru and Krile always tried making sure the two were comfortable and that everything was going well. After all, they were both headstrong and two very important parts of the fakely disbanded group, but most of all, two dear friends they only wished the best of.
“Shall we begin, then?” Urianger speaks, two glasses of fresh juice being poured over.
“I shall start. My investigations have been steady and, though it seemed like I was at an impasse, I’m sure to be close to a breakthrough.” Y’shtola says, the thoughts of traveling the First dominating her goals. The books she had been reading, the investigations she had been conducting were all to try and return to that place. She felt she could get there soon, she only needed a push in the right direction.
Remembering The First and what happened there, Alisaie lowers her head only slightly. Sure, she is happy to think that maybe they’ll be able to visit their comrades again, but she is also reminded of those they lost.
This is why Ezikiel’s hand is discreetly placed upon the Elezen’s, something that makes her eyes light up before she slowly turns to look at him. He only peeks back at her for a second before continuing to pay attention towards the next Scion to start speaking about their progress. A small smile presents itself and his hand squeezes against Alisaie’s as if to let her know that he was there for her. Despite her knowing this, she appreciated how attentive Ezikiel could be, how he supported her with such ease. A small sigh escapes her, just slightly audible, like a reply to him. She was there for him, too, always.
“Sorry I’m late!” A familiar voice screams from across some trees around the area, prompting the group to turn over. It was G’raha Tia, running towards them with a big basket he places over at the middle of the picnic. “It took me a little longer than expected to make these sandwiches… And then I almost forgot to bring the dried squid. I hope I did not delay too much.”
“Not at all, we were just getting started. Have a seat.” Urianger invites and the nervous Miqo’te proceeds to take a seat on the circle of the group. Immediately he turns over to Alisaie and Ezikiel, the ones he is closest to, delivering gentle greetings to the two.
“Since you arrived now, why don’t you share how you’ve been faring, G’raha Tia?” Thancred takes the chance to ask, sounding quite curious.
“Yes, of course! Full glad am I to see you all. Things have been going relatively well on my end…” He starts and they all proceed to listen in as Ezikiel takes the chance to lean his head over the girl’s shoulder. It’s commonplace now for all of them to see their subtle acts of affection, to witness them being so comfortable against each other. As if it had always been like that, they all continue on with the conversation, though seeming much livelier. Somehow, being able to witness such a gentle side of the two, such a relatively normal interaction instead of that of mere coworkers or comrades brought some kind of relief – as if the air turned lighter just because those two had fallen in love.
With this pleasant feeling in mind, they all proceed not only to share their findings, but to share a hearty meal together. They laugh and share menial conversation topics here and there as they used to back at the Rising Stones and, soon, this comes to an end.
In what feels like a second, their little get-together ends and each of them says their farewells.
“That was a good session, wasn’t it?” Ezikiel asks and Alisaie turns to him, nodding as she waves good-bye to her brother who decided to, yet again, go on ahead and reach Garlemald before the two.
“It was… Makes you realize how much has changed but also… how some things never do change.”
“We have great companions, it’s something that nothing could ever replace.”
“Yes, and I’m glad for it.” Alisaie comments, eyes set on the silhouettes of the Scions as they walk away.
“Should we get going?” Ezikiel asks, his hand still on hers and Alisaie shakes her head.
“Actually, I was thinking that maybe we could spend more time together. Just you and I.” Ears perk, letting the girl know that he was looking forward to whatever she had planned.
“Do you remember the swim trunks I asked you to take? Well, you’re going to need them now. There’s a lake near here, I thought maybe we could take a breather there, before we go back to Garlemald.” She says, standing up and pulling him with the hand that had been tightly held against his. He stands quickly, tail swaying with haste. It made sense now, how she made sure to remind him of it but would not even mention the reason.
“That sounds good! So, this would be like a little surprise date between us?” Ezikiel asks, enthusiastic.
“Exactly… I think we've been too caught up on our duties to take a second to actually have a formal date. Sure, we’ve spent time together, but right now… I think it’s the best time for us to just let ourselves go. We don’t really do that back there…”
A smile places upon the boy’s face. True enough, he was missing the dates they used to have here in Eorzea. Somehow, it all seemed lighter when they were around here.
Back at Garlemald, the air was harsh and stagnant. Life – for everyone there – had come secondary to the reconstruction efforts they were trying to make. The gears of change were taking a while to actually move – it left little time for anyone to feel at peace with going out on a date or even catching their breath. Once they went back to their duties, it was easy for the two to be caught up in it and overwork themselves. Being as determined and headstrong as they were, their energies were always consumed at trying to help the Garleans rebuild instead of taking every chance they could to rest. It was a noble act, but it was also taxing. So, taking this chance, the girl pulls her boyfriend over to walk around the forest before reaching the lake.
It was a beautiful corner of the world; behind so much greenery, so many trees and bushes, crystal clear water glistened with the light of the sun, as if small jewels were decorating its surface. It was like a small oasis of wonder, hidden from prying eyes.
“Come on, Ezikiel! Put your swim trunks on and let’s get in!” She invites him before a snap of her fingers seems to change her right into the swimsuit she had prepared for herself. It was something she had seen Ezikiel do, something she had finally managed to replicate. Ezikiel can’t help but chuckle at her action before snapping his own fingers to change to his trunks.
“Pretty convenient, huh?” He says in between laughter.
“Very much so!” She follows in on the laughs before letting her hair down and running over to the edge of the lake. “Come, let’s get in!”
Alisaie invites and Ezikiel is about to follow, but… He remains staring at her for a bit. It wasn’t often he saw her with her hair down. Running over to the lake, with her beautiful, red swimsuit, he couldn’t help but take it all in. A second, just a second to stare at his beautiful girlfriend, to be grateful for what he had – who he had on his side.
“Ezikiel?” She shouts back at him. Ears perked up, he nodded and rushed but came to yet another halt. He expects for the water to be cold so, when he touches it with the tip of his toe, a baffled sigh comes as he realizes that the water is lukewarm, much to his joyful surprise.
“The sun is very warm, it seems to have made the water’s temperature perfect for us!” She says, as if she didn’t know this would happen but, in reality, she had thought it out. Since they spent so much time in the cold, lukewarm water to enjoy sounded like the best dating idea to her. Ezikiel quickly caught up to this plan of hers, a gentle smile placed. Alisaie could be very thoughtful when she wanted to… And, when it came to Ezikiel, this seemed to be a constant.
He gets into the water almost a minute after she does. Her hands extend towards him from below the water’s surface, he glances over and accepts them. Immediately after, she starts swimming further and further away from the shore, holding onto him.
“It’s perfect, Alisaie.”
“This place? Yes, I had to research a little to find a good lake that was close enough to our picnic. I got lucky to find this one.”
“No–no… To be here, with you. Sure, this place is beautiful, but you make it all the more special. Being able to see you like this, so relaxed. It’s like a gift.”
It makes her blush how easily the other can compliment her, and how quickly her heart can race when she hears him say such words.
“I know I keep saying this but, it’s all thanks to you.” And those rosy cheeks seem to grow rosier as she ponders upon something, a deep breath released as she does.
“That’s why I wanted to talk about something important with you.”
“Yeah? What is it? Did something happen?” Ezikiel seems to panic internally, though Alisaie is able to catch up on it, having spent much more time with him than before. Her eyes drift to the side before she continues talking.
“Nothing of the sort… I was just… pondering about the past again. You see…” The grip on her hands is tightened and Ezikiel pulls her in for a hug. Just like she knew his subtleties, he had learned to read between the lines of her expressions. Something was bothering her, she was determined for something, but he had no idea what. Despite that, he was here to provide his unwavering support.
“Is this about Garlemald, or maybe… the First? Or is this about something else that has been lingering on your mind? You know you can tell me anything.” Was what he whispered, the worry looming over his voice as if it were its shadow. Alisaie held onto him, leaning her head against his and closing her eyes. She wants to stay in that embrace forever.
“It’s… a little bit about everything.” She starts, though the sound of her peaceful voice gives him some solace. Maybe, the conversation wouldn’t be as dire as he thought. “Garlemald has made me reflect a lot, as you may have surmised. Those people, they lost everything…”
“A lot happened, but we’re all making amends. Do not worry, I can assure you, you are doing good.”
“Yes, but… that is not really what has been on my mind. It’s you…”
She backs away to be able to look at him and, in those mismatched eyes she sees concern, ears growing droopy as if he were bracing for something. Even though she had assured him it was alright, he couldn’t help but worry that maybe something truly was wrong. Quiet, he waits for her to continue.
"Everytime we've touched upon things like these – be it Garlemald or the events that happened on The First – you focus mostly on my well-being, on the suffering I went through… And I suppose I myself do that, too. But, what about you?"
A hand is placed gently on one of his cheeks, drops of water sliding down in the process. Yet, Ezikiel can only pay attention to the girl's words, her expression, the glint in her eyes.
"Sure, back at the First, I lost Tesleen… But I was not the only one who mourned her loss. Back there, you lost a lot of things – a lot of people, Tesleen included. You discovered an ancient past, ancient friends turned enemies… And you had to fight and lose them again. Hells, even Ardbert was someone you lost… Someone that could not be saved. And yet, you shoulder that burden in silence…"
"I…" he tries to speak but Alisaie lets out a gentle hush.
"I know… It's simply the type of person you are, but… I am here now for the long run. I am here to stay and, before I would brush it off as something I should not push myself into but… As your girlfriend, I know I have a say, a right to aid you, to give you my strength when you need it. And by the Gods do you need it when it comes to all that emotional baggage you carry."
The girl remains calm while she says it, even stroking the other's cheek as she goes but he can't help but feel as if he had been kind of scolded… Though in a good way. His cheeks were growing intensely red before he laughed for a bit. And oh, that hearty laugh made the girl giggle in response.
"So, you're saying that… You are worried about me just as I am worried about you?"
"It's… a little more than that. I want to make things right. The more I think about what we've witnessed and what all of us in this star have gone through, the more I'm convinced that I want to do more. But, most of all, as selfish as it may sound… I want to get stronger for you – to be able to protect you, to share the weight of it all on those nights you have nightmares, on the days that feel hopeless, and even during times of joy. I want to be more than just your girlfriend. I want to be a pillar."
"Alisaie… You are right here with me exactly because you are exactly that. You've made me strong, you've given me hope. You are a pillar – for many of us. And I love you for that and much more."
"Hah… how do you do it?" Alisaie seems to glare for a second in a playful manner and Ezikiel's eyes open wide in confusion.
"Hm? Do what?"
"I gave a long speech that I was sure would shake you to your core and yet, with a few words, you managed to make my heart throb and turn my world upside-down. What am I to do with you?" She says, splashing some water at him before she jumps over to hug him. Ezikiel quickly catches her and spins her over along the water, boundless happiness present before their lips touch yet again. It never gets old, their hearts jump and their souls connect as if it were the first time.
"Let's enjoy this while it lasts! Surely my brother will eventually proccure us, so we won't be able to stay for long."
"Right! This is pretty good, but you really shine when you're helping others, Alisaie. I think our little makeshift dates eating a hot stew or soup between snowstorms are special because of that… You needn't do anything extraordinary, your presence and hardwork are not overlooked by me."
"Hmph… Well, I hope you also listen to me once I tell you your hardwork and presence are also enough – and that you should take breaks! " Ears twitch and she reaches for them.
"Restless as ever… but just as lovely."
Bashful, he glances towards the glistening water and how the sun slowly starts to set. It was perfect, being with her during every second was heaven.
When they're together, time seems to go by with ease. In the blink of an eye, they had to return to their duties… But they were grateful for it, because every day was a promise of seeing each other again.
Notes:
And that's all, for now! Once more, I am grateful for this opportunity, it makes me very happy! Thank you for taking your time to read it, have an amazing day!

Chapter Text
A gasp through the night. It gets drowned by the uncontrollable sensation of dread and a deep shadow coming to make the skies dark right before a somber dawn.
He’s shaking all over, as if the cold of Garlemald was getting to him. Yet, he turns to glance at the heater, perfectly set and working. He knew what this meant… And he remembered that nightmare he had vividly. A pinch and he confirms that he, in fact, had woken up…
But even in reality, the memories of what happened before come rushing in. The past and those voices that haunt him lingering and mixing between what truly happened and what he had dreamt.
Why wasn’t I better? Why did I cause so much grief?
It is his duty to fight it off or, at least, to ignore it, he is convinced, and he continues through the day… But the thoughts do not leave his side – he feels a darkness loom that he cannot shake.
“Farewell, Urianger…” “Oh, do not look at me so…” “Farewell, Warrior of Light…” “I bid thee farewell again, my dear Yda…”
He swears he hears them.
“This world is not yours to end…” “Remember… Remember us…” “But you are not here to see it…” “Where lies… happiness?”
The voices of the people that died long ago, voices of friends and heroes alike. Even whispers of people he barely knew and those who had recently parted.
Ezikiel turns to look over, to try and find them, but is met with only the howling wind and the cold of a foreign land. His head hangs as he wonders why would he even try to turn to them when he was so ashamed.
“You don’t deserve to see them, Ezikiel…” He whispers to himself, pain clear in his expression as he presses on. He failed to notice the girl watching him from afar as she had been for days now. Alisaie had her eyes set upon him – it was the usual for her now that they dated. She didn’t need to hide those glances, the love she bore, the interest in every little thing he was doing. Because of this she notices the subtleties of his situation and, though she wants to ask him, she holds it back and carries on.
“Not now…” Later, she will ask him later.
And, again, a gasp wakes him from his slumber. Cold sweat runs down his forehead and the pounding on his chest is so heavy that his breathing grows ragged and quick.
Those people he lost and his inability to feel any better, to make amends, it torments him as it has for a while now. Yet, these days, it feels so much harsher, so vivid. In this peace, he had time to reflect, time to recount the things he had done – time to judge himself, punish himself for the things he could not fulfill.
“Get a grip, Ezikiel…” He tells himself, trying to get through the night. Tomorrow was bound to be a very busy day and he needed to be in top shape if he didn’t want to be a burden. Eyes go down towards his hands, noticing how they shake against the force of the thoughts in his head.
These people I’ve lost, the people I could’ve saved… If only I had been faster… If only I had been stronger, a better person – a real hero, like they thought. Things would’ve been different if a better person had taken the lead.
Those words roam in his head and it makes it impossible to sleep. Instead of trying to place his head back on the pillow, he sighs to himself and steps out of the bed. He walks out towards the window, observing the moonlight in between the snowstorm. And he feels guilty to even be able to witness such a thing when others had given their all. No, he should not be resting, he should keep pushing the peace, protecting it, making sure nothing else ever happens.
Yet, in a moment of slight clarity, he is reminded of how Alisaie wanted him to enjoy every scenery he had been able to save… But was he worthy of it? After failing so many people, after not being able to save every single soul, did he deserve to greet the dawn? He remains there, thoughts dominating him until dawn, without noticing that, for a while, Alisaie had been listening in from the door, unable to feel the courage to open it.
“Not now, either.” She whispers. Tomorrow. I will ask him tomorrow, she convinced herself before deciding not to enter the room for the night.
Daylight soon came and with it, a tired Ezikiel walked out of the room. His tail barely swayed all day and his eyes had visible bags under them. Despite the clear sleep deprivation, he pressed on.
“You’re looking worse for wear, Ezikiel. Are you sure you should be out here in the cold?” Alphinaud asked after visiting camp for a little while. Ezikiel nods as enthusiastically as he can, though his ears are growing droopy by the second. He tries to keep it to himself, the fact that he feels exhausted beyond measure, and the way his thoughts zone out by the second.
“I’m alright, don’t you worry, Alphinaud. I just had a rough night, but that wont stop me from being able to help. I’ll take it easy.” It’s a clear lie, but Alphinaud tries to believe that this time he will actually do it. Nodding he proceeds to continue on with his own tasks for the day and, as soon as Ezikiel walks over to help out around the open, snowy field, Alisaie reaches for him. Seeing her, he finally lights up a little.
“Alisaie! Hey, are you working alongside me today?” He asks and she nods.
“Yes, so please allow me to at least do half of the work, okay? I don’t want you doing every single thing.” She says in a slight accusatory tone, but one the Miqo’te knows means well. A small laugh comes and he tilts his head a bit.
“I’ll try my best…” He says and Alisaie is quick to reach upward to deliver a small peck. She thinks to try and talk about what happened yesterday – what has been happening to the man lately – but she instead proceeds to help him out and speed the process of the work for today. The quicker they get things out of the way, the better. She didn't want any distractions.
Despite her efforts, though, they end up working for longer than the two expect and, soon, nighttime falls upon them.
“We should stop for the night, Ezikiel.” She invites, seeing the boy place some crates by the edge of camp. As he lifts his hands away from it, she catches a glimpse of the way they are shaking. Right, she had noticed that too, a while ago when they went to take a luncheon break. His hands could barely keep the plate or the utensils still…
“The cold has been getting to you,” some of the people said and the boy nodded and laughed, brushing off the situation, but Alisaie knew better. This wasn’t normal for him at all. He wasn’t so prone to the cold like that, or he would’ve reacted like this to Garlemald ever since they got there. This was different. He zoned out more often, he remained quiet for longer, he barely noticed what other people were saying.
Something was wrong and had been wrong for a while.
Breaking herself free from the thoughts, she decides to move over to him, placing a hand upon his shoulder.
“Did you hear me? We should go and rest.” She says, voice growing softer and somehow reaching him. He turns to her and shakes his head.
“But, there’s still so much I have to do. So much I can do… I need to help them.”
“I know how you feel, but we can’t overexert ourselves. We’re in this for the long haul, they need us healthy. And for us to be healthy, we need to rest, alright? Come with me.” She invites, a hand sliding from his shoulder, to his arm, reaching for his palm. She pulls him away from the snowy plains to their barracks. Specifically, she took him to his room and, though he seemed a little down about it and not entirely convinced, he still listened to her and walked over. He sat on the edge of the bed and she did as well. Soon, she takes a breather.
“Ezikiel, there’s something bothering you, isn’t there?” Alisaie starts, her voice is serene and soft, much like when she is trying to bring him comfort. Her hand does not back away from his, blue hues locked against mismatched ones.
“What? No… No, everything’s–”
“You don’t have to lie for my sake, Ezikiel. I know when you’re not doing well.” She continues, interrupting him and lifting her other hand to place it on one of his eyebags. She traces her thumb through it slowly and he feels a desire to yawn, but he holds it back.
“I mean it, Alisaie. I’m alright… Everything is fine between us and we are working hard to help the people…”
“Yes, none of that is what has been bothering you, though. I know as much… But I need you to talk to me if I am going to be able to help you. Please, Ezikiel, no more hiding.”
“What do you mean, Alisaie? I would never hide from you…”
“No, you wouldn’t hide yourself from me, but you would hide your feelings from the world – and that includes me. It’s been that way since forever. But I don’t want it to continue like this for you. I don’t want your feelings to remain behind closed doors.”
There was no more running from it, he knew, and he glanced over towards the ground, backing a little from her and her touch.
“But Alisaie… Those feelings are not the best. They’re not good. If I told you… I’d be dragging you down with me instead of lifting you up.” Ezikiel confesses and Alisaie lets out a small scoff. Her hand reinforces itself on his shoulder, she squeezes it firmly and the hand that used to be on his face holds the edge of it to slowly make him glance over back at her.
“Ezikiel… That is not your duty. You have been a hero, but that is not all you have to be. You are my lover… I love you boundlessly. And, as I told you before, I want to be a pillar to you… How can I be a pillar if you do not open up to me?”
She pulls him in for an embrace and she holds him there. Hushing any attempt he has at trying to explain himself, she caresses his hair, strokes his back gently and gives him a minute to ponder.
“Please, allow me to help you. Please, tell me what it is that has been plaguing you, that I may give you the peace of mind you deserve.” She had an idea, based on all those nights in which she had caught him waking up, walking around aimlessly, whispering to himself, shaking. She just needed him to say it, she needed him to acknowledge the situation. So, peacefully, she would wait for him to be ready, while nudging him to try it out now.
Deep breaths come out of the Miqo’te. Intensely, he debates upon if he should actually speak about it or try to brush it off as usual. Alisaie was being heartfelt and honest… Didn’t she deserve his best efforts? Thinking about that, he manages to obtain the valor to lift himself up and lock eyes with her.
“Alright… I just… don’t know where to start.”
“Well, why don’t we talk about what has been making your hands shake?” Ears twitch and straighten, eyes widened.
“You… You’ve noticed that?”
“Of course I have! Those shaky hands are not normal in you. I’ve seen you working on Garlemald before. The cold may be bothersome, but it never got you to a point where you’d shake so violently… Plus, whenever you grow this shaky, your eyes seem bereft of light. It’s as if you’ve zoned out, as if you’re anxious about something. And… you are anxious, no? Something is on your mind.”
A small but pained smile forms. To think that Alisaie was so observant when it came to him made his heart grow warm, but it also made it ache because he could not hide away. His breath came out as uneven as those fingers, his thoughts trailing back to the past.
“I just… know I’m not good enough, Alisaie.” He pauses, knowing she would say no in a heartbeat. But she waits for him to continue, her face showing slight discomfort but determination. “I’m called a hero by everyone and yet, I’ve failed so many.”
“Ezikiel…” She whispers and, soon, she can’t help but throw herself again to hold onto him. Her hands grip his back tight. “After all the people you saved, how could you ever think that?”
“Because I remember. I remember all of the people I failed. All of those people that sacrificed themselves just so I could press on.” Ever since the very beginning of his journey, people had been making sacrifices for him. Hells, even Alisaie’s grandfather was caught in the crossfire of fate, saving him and others from sure death. Moenbryda, Papalymo, Haurchefant, Ysayle, to mention a few. Those that had been united by their same cause, those who had protected him to continue to lift up their dreams, the promise of a tomorrow they would not be able to see.
“Weren’t they worth it more than I was? They should’ve been there to see what their sacrifice brought forth… And yet, it’s me… I’m the one they make sacrifices for and the one that prevails.”
There it is again, the shaky breathing, the trembling hands, the watery eyes. And Alisaie backs away from the hug and, instead, holds both of the shaky hands with her own. She gives them gentle caresses, sliding her thumbs against skin for a while. Her eyes don’t part from his, despite him breaking eye contact every once in a while just to observe those hands.
“Deep breaths, Ezikiel. I want you to breathe deeply and listen to me, yes?” Ezikiel can only nod to her words, clinging onto them as if they were his only salvation. Watching him breathe in and out for a bit, she prepares to speak. Her hands lift his to her lips, she kisses them and plants them back on his lap as her hands now go to support his face, cupping it gently.
“The words I am about to tell you come not only from a place of love, but also truth.” She pauses and Ezikiel listens, unable to say a word in-between the way his body cannot stop trembling from the anxiety and stress of the confrontation of his emotions. She knew he was not used to it and, though she wanted to give him a break, she could not do it until she had said her piece. But she would make it as light on him as she could. After all, she loved him dearly and, though she hated to see him so out of his element, she knew this was for his own good. So, she remained close and inviting, letting the boy know he was safe.
“It is just you and me right now, Ezikiel. You needn’t be scared. Those dark feelings, those nightmares you’ve had all of these nights, the darkness that looms within you – they are all a part of you and they are not ugly.” She starts, something that strikes his heart almost immediately. He lets out a small gasp, trying to hold back the tears. To him, to even think about himself like that hurt, he hated himself for it. He hated the pity he had for himself, yet he hated the way he could not reach other’s expectations the most.
“But… it’s not just thoughts and feelings, Alisaie… I truly failed all of you. I have failed you time and time again.”
“No, Ezikiel. You never have. Those people that gave their lives for the future, they believed in you, and they were right to do so. Because, despite your flaws, – or all of our flaws – we’ve kept fighting for a future we all believe in. You fight for a good future, you fight for all of us, even those that could not see it live in your heart, I just know it.”
It was as if she were seeing right through him, as if she could feel his soul. Inside him, yes, he kept all of those people he had been unable to save. He lived with that regret, it beat like an adjacent heart to his own and it carried him towards the next day. It made his weapon heavy, it caused his shadow to darken – the day felt colder with them inside, but it didn’t have to be that way. With her words, Alisaie tried to voice that fact; he was not alone and those who lived inside of him should not be there to torment him.
“We all want to guide you, to walk alongside you. We wouldn’t ever want you to lose sleep, to feel less than what you are. Maybe, we put too much weight on you by calling you the Warrior of Light, our hero… the Champion of Eorzea… In reality, you are our… my dearest person. You don’t need to do some impossible feat for you to be worthy… I love you just as you are. Do you not love yourself as you are?” The question comes like a splash of ice cold water. It makes him jolt and break eye contact, but she moves closer to him, she pulls him closer, though leaving him space to decide what to do next. He was the one to lean himself against her chest now. There, she can hear whimpering… Yes, those were whimpers decorated with tears, with all of the emotions he kept hiding. So, she placed a hand over one of his ears, leaving gentle strokes to soothe him. He did the same with the other, all the while letting him cry over her chest.
With those tears, he had given her the answer.
“Forgive us for ever pushing you into such a harsh spot like that. But, Ezikiel, I promise you I will make amends for all of us. I’m going to help you… I will make you love yourself just as much as I love you.” His hands hold onto her back tight, just as they had done before, but he somehow feels much more little, much more vulnerable than seconds ago. She holds him tight, she keeps him steady.
“Alisaie…” he manages to say in between whimpers and sobs. “I’m sorry…”
“No, we should be the ones apologizing. We put too much pressure on you… On a singular person. It’s not right and you need more than a break – you need a release. ” And she vowed to give it to him. “Come on, let’s go rest, yes?”
“Huh? B-But you said you needed to talk to me and I–”
“I’ve heard more than enough, you needn’t pressure yourself anymore. Let us rest, I’ll make sure that you do sleep this time, alright? I promise.” Alisaie comments with determination as she helps the boy lay down on the bed. She uses her fingers to get rid of the tears that had flowed before and, soon, she placed his head gently against the pillow. Immediately after, she lays down in front of him and places a hand over him, pulling his body close to her, resting her head on his chest.
It was a cathartic sensation. For a while, he thought that crying in front of her and confessing some of his feelings would be a horrible thing to do. Yet, Alisaie was still smiling, she was still holding him with such love and care.
“Alisaie, I… Thank you…”
“You can’t thank me just yet. We still have a long way to go… I know you won’t get better in the blink of an eye, but I will make sure that every day is better than the last.” Moving her head up to look at him, she reaches to plant a kiss on his cheek… And then a peck on his lips before beaming with sheer happiness and red with slight embarrassment but unwavering hope.
Her love for him was like a sea in a storm. Sometimes, she was headstrong and harsh, but when he needed it the most, she would shake everything, move earth and sky for him. But she could also be incredibly considerate, cradle him – be his pillar.
“Alisaie… This is more than I could ask for. This is real peace…” Even though, just like she had said, he still had a long way to go… To have the girl support him, someone to talk to so genuinely, it felt good – he was sure he could heal. It was a brand new experience he knew he could get used to, one he was looking forward to. Leaning over towards her, he lets himself drift, closing his eyes, being able to smell her aroma, to feel her hands touching him, her peaceful breathing. In a second, he is finally able to sleep.
A sigh through the night comes, drowned by the peace of the couple dozing off. Tonight, the jet-black skies dissipated with the presence of a knight, a girl in red coming to save the day even before dawn could arrive.

Chapter Text
She had made it a habit to wake up by his side as often as possible. Whether she had slept all night alongside him or just woke up extremely early to be able to greet him, Ezikiel would always wake up to her voice, that shining face, her radiant presence.
Ezikiel could think of many things he liked about her actions, but one of the most important part of that act, to him at least, was that she would always either pet his head or gently caress his tail. It was a nice way of waking him up, despite him squirming. She would always laugh in endearment at how sensitive those areas were, but she’d melt right over when he would greet her with a smile.
“You know those are my weak spots, Alisaie.” He comments, as if he hadn’t told her that before and she chuckles again, sitting by the side of the bed, glancing over at the dim rays of the sun for a bit before turning to him.
“That’s why I touch them! They’re mine to take care of, so I do so. I do not wish to neglect any part of you, no matter how small.” She affirms with a triumphant smile on her face, soon enough, though, she jumps over, placing hands on her hips.
“Oh, right! Today is a special day, Ezikiel! You must get up right now!” Though she exclaims this, she's careful not to be too loud. It was very early, after all and she didn't wish to disturb anyone – especially Ezikiel who scratched his eyes gently, trying to stir himself truly awake.
“Hm? Do we have to do double the work today or something?” Ezikiel asks, continuing to prompt himself awake.
“Oh, trust me, it’s something much better than that… But, we do have to get work out of the way. So, we must get going at this very moment! Come on, up!” She encourages and, though he has to wonder just what has her so spirited, he gets out of the bed. He’s about to move out when the girl stops right in front of him and a hand moves over to his head just to gently touch one of his ears and then the other. He is quick to react, ears twitching and eyes closing as he feels electricity travel all over his body. It was a delightful feeling when caused by Alisaie, but he couldn't keep himself from jolting.
He moved a hand towards her, it was his turn to caress her. The edge of her face was traveled by his fingers, traced over with gentleness. As if they both knew, they leaned over each other and in for a kiss. It was slow and serene, like distant waves… Like the sky when it is at peace.
Ah! Blue eyes open wide and she leans away.
“We must hurry!” She says and Ezikiel can’t help but laugh, slightly baffled. Whatever was going to happen, whatever she had planned, it was very important to her somehow. He nodded and it was time to work afterwards.
“You’re here early, sister!” Alphinaud says, a cup of warm coffee in hands as he overlooks the tasks for the day. He had been eyeing some papers before he heard two pairs of footsteps, surprising him.
“Well, Ezikiel and I have a very important date, so–”
“Oh! Is it because of the–”
“It is a surprise , brother! Don’t you dare ruin it…” She threatens, a finger lifted as she leans het upper body over to him. Alphinaud is quick to raise his hands, though he is laughing under his breath, so is Ezikiel, who seems at a loss as well.
“Alright, my lips are sealed, you needn’t worry. I suppose you’ll be working quick today, huh? Maybe I could help you clear the schedule for the evening.”
“Really?" Her hostile demeanor suddenly turned light and grateful.
"Oh that would be delightful!” She admits, turning over to Ezikiel and, without a second thought squealing in excitement before holding one of his hands. “I promise you this will be amazing.”
“Alisaie, you needn’t push yourself. You know that, right?”
“Yes, I do… Do not worry, it’s nothing too big. But it will be something beautiful. Some much needed alone time.” Because, yes, after that time in which the boy poured out his feelings, they hadn’t been able to share as much intimacy as she would've hoped for. Just like it had happened to them before, working to rebuild Garlemald took most of their time. Even though she had been working on trying to divide the load between them both equally, some things only the Warrior of Light could do. Sometimes, their companions depended more on him than anyone else due to such a title, because of the tried and true method of giving any workload to him and knowing it would be accomplished. Slowly, but surely she would work on that…
Yet, Ezikiel had taken her words to heart and he himself had been trying not to push himself to the brink… at least, not every time .
“Alright, then I can’t wait to see whatever it is you want to do.” Ezikiel replies. He recalled the different times in which the girl had surprised him with a date – always, she’d make him have a good time. Even visiting her parents had been an experience he had ended up enjoying. So now, he was sure Alisaie had something nice in store for him. Somehow, the mere thought of it made him excited.
The two proceeded to go work on their respective tasks for the day. To ensure they both could spend the evening without problems, Alphinaud volunteered to help them out with some of the tasks. It was extra work for him, but he adored seeing his sister so happy and determined, he didn't want her plans to fail. Plus, Ezikiel seemed to be faring a lot better the more he interacted with Alisaie. He needed more of her, Alphinaud was sure, so he would try his best to give them the time they deserved. That was his best attempt at giving them something back.
Who knew when they would be needed for a bigger task? Though the star had been saved once, there was no telling what could arise next. As quickly as their lives returned to peace, they could go back to chaos. It was a natural law, for things to jump between chaos and harmony. They had to enjoy the time they had – Ezikiel needed time for himself; time to explore who he was aside from being a hero and ally. Alisaie was making sure of that with every step she took each day.
"I'm done, Alisaie!" Ezikiel mentions with excitement after hours of working and, though the Elezen looked so exhausted just mere seconds ago, seeing him back with ears perked makes her smile bright. In the blink of an eye she is energized.
Standing from the seat she was at, she gestures for him to sit there. He is hesitant for a moment but ends up complying and, soon, a soft hand is placed on his hairs. She ruffles them with care and even a bit of mischief.
"I'm so proud of you, Ezikiel! Actually, I'm a bit grateful I didn't make this a competition like that one time at the First or I would've lost to you. How can you be so swift but so thorough all the time?"
"I suppose I just obtained that skill over time. I wasn’t always like this.”
"It’s hard for me to believe, but I suppose doing so many errands at the same time does that to you, huh?"
The two share a hearty laugh before she stops her hand over his hairs, sliding to then soothe her own opposite wrist. Her energy seems to lower back down as she ponders upon the time and how much she has left to do.
"I'm still not done yet with my tasks for the day–"
"I can help with them–"
"No–no! I knew you'd say that, but no! I don't want you to overexert yourself for me, hm? I want you to take this chance to wind down while I finish, yes?"
"But Alisaie…" Those ears she adores get droopy and both her hands move over to soothe them now. His eyes close and his cheeks grow red as he feels shivers run down his spine. It's a nice feeling, but oh he can barely take it when she soothes him that way. His tail sways with sudden jolts here and there, but he remains as still as possible. She notices and finally sighs in relief.
"There's no need to be distraught. I won't be long, alright? I just want you to rest while I finish. Oh! And while you're at it, could you get our warmest coats warmed up and ready? We will need them." To her words, he opens heterochromic eyes showing curiosity and confusion but he nonetheless nods.
"Sure, I'll get them ready. Is there anything else I could do for our date?"
"No, that would be all. Wait… Maybe… look forward to it, alright?"
"Already am," Ezikiel replies and is about to stand but stops once she plants a kiss on his forehead.
"Take a break first, please. After a while, you can look for the coats." He sighs as she read right through him and his intentions. Though it is hard for him to even think of taking a break knowing she will be working hard for a while now, he ends up nodding again.
"Fine, I'll relax for a bit." He replies with a slight complaint, but the girl instead remains high spirited.
"Perfect! I won't be long, so don't fall asleep!" She says, though she knows he'd be far too alert to do so now. She rushes off and he watches over her as she moves from one side of the camp to the next. Ezikiel couldn't help but wonder if she noticed how much of a hard-worker she truly was… and how much they all needed and appreciated her presence. Once again, he found himself falling in love with her, loving every little thing she did… Maybe, he'd remind her of that once they got to their date.
With those lovely thoughts in mind, he walks over to his room. She had been leaving some of her luggage there and he recalled one of her warmest coats, a light pink one, being right by the side of his own. So, opening the closet, he scouts for them, quickly finding the two and proceeding to place them close to the heater for a while. Soon, she'd be done with her work, just as the sun was going down.
"I don't know, Alphinaud, do you truly think this silly idea of a date will be a good one? Ezikiel is a good person, he'd never make me feel bad but…" The hand of her brother goes to her shoulder, he seems confident in what he's about to say.
"Ezikiel loves you, Alisaie. Whatever you planned for him will be met with genuine appreciation. He will love it. It's a beautiful idea, after all. And… I think he needs more of those simplistic moments rather than groundbreaking events."
Alisaie would know – she recalled just how much those high expectations, those high risks had clouded the boy's mind. Alphinaud was right, she concluded, she had to continue to listen to her heart as she had done so before. She wanted to show him the simplicity of life and that included simple dates, small moments they could both remember forever. Determined, she lifts her head towards Alphinaud.
"Thank you, brother. You're right… I got insecure for a second there, but I know it will be worth it."
"That's the spirit! Go on, if there's anything else we must deal with, I will handle it."
"Thanks again, I'll be going now!" She waves at the same time her twin does and, soon, she is running off towards the boy's room. She stops on her tracks right before he opens the door and walks out, surprised to see her there. Her eyes go to his for a bit and, though he is holding onto the coats, she runs over to hug him tight. One of her hands rests on his back, the other on his tail and he can barely hug her back with the two coats in hand, but he makes do.
"Let's get going, Ezikiel. I have everything ready." She says, holding him just a bit tighter right before freeing him from her grasp.
"Aren't you tired from working until now? We could take a break first.”
"Not at all! Didn't you notice? That hug revitalized me." She ensures and, even though he thinks this not to be true, the way her eyes glint and how her demeanor remains sparkling convinces him that she speaks truth.
"I didn't know hugs held that kind of power." He jokes and it makes her laugh.
"Well, now you know. So, when I am tired, make sure to hug me."
"Will you do the same for me, then?"
"Without a doubt." A small peck is delivered and the two start walking. Naturally, Alisaie leads the way and Ezikiel wonders just where they are going.
It takes them a bit but they reach the outskirts of Garlemald; an open, cold hill that easily overlooks the ruins of the city. Far away from civilization and, surprisingly even from monsters, do they find a convenient spot with a small picnic already in place.
"I prepared it in advance. I had been looking for the perfect spot for a while. All our other dating spots here in Garlemald were random, but… this one is special."
"Really? Why is that?" Ezikiel asks and Alisaie sits on one side of the rug, he sits right by her and she is quick to place her hand over his shoulders to slide her fingers around again. It was natural now, for her to be this caring. She knew the subtle touches brought comfort to him and she wanted to provide it as many times as she could. Sure, she would wonder if he'd get tired sometimes, but usually – like now – he'd look so pleased and relax that it would erase all her doubts away.
"Well, you'll see soon. For now, let's dig in!" She says before extending her hand towards his and, as soon as she does, she notices some scraps on it. Her eyes open wide and she lifts her head to look at him with worry and a bit of a scolding tone in her voice. "What happened to you?"
He is shocked that she was able to notice, and so quickly, too. He had forgotten about it with the excitement of their date, but now he felt a little guilty for keeping it a secret. Glancing away towards the snow, he confesses.
"I rushed a little too much when I was working, so I bumped into some boxes. They fell over and the contents all poured out. I tried to catch them but, well…"
"They fell on top of your hands? And you didn't try to wrap up your wounds?" Her question receives a shrug from the boy which makes her groan and quickly take out a kit from her bag.
"You had that ready?" Ezikiel asks, surprised as she pulls both of his hands and places them on her lap. All the while, he is following her every movement with his eyes.
"Of course! I have no way of knowing when you'll throw yourself into the line of battle and end up wounded. I want to be ready for any outcome!" She exclaims as her fingers delicately help apply the ointment on his wounds. It stings a bit, causing him to complain and close his eyes. His ears perk up and his tail sways in distress but she stops to help soothe them. A bit of caressing here and there on each ear as she usually did and a trace of that tail with the tip of her fingers. Quickly, it feels like he can relax yet again.
"How do you know just how to calm me down?" His voice is low and calm, almost as if he were falling asleep – rather, letting his guard down.
"Those areas tell me how. They react to both my actions and my touches, I've learned to make it right. While you sleep sometimes, I practice and make sure I'm making you feel better and not worse. I've been getting really proficient at it, huh?" Right after saying that, she proceeds to start wrapping the hands in bandages. She is careful to close the wounds tightly, keep them secure. Right after, she stares at the hands and, pulling them in, she kisses his wrapped knuckles briefly.
Ezikiel's heartbeat quickens and he studies her actions just a bit further. All of these acts of love… To think that Alisaie held so much affection in her heart, it stirred him. She was truly a treasure and he could never get enough of her. Without thinking at all, does he lean his head a bit while one of those wrapped hands go towards the back of the girl’s head, gently pulling her until their foreheads touch.
“Thank you, Alisaie. I feel like, recently, I’ve been thanking you a lot, but I truly mean it. I truly am grateful to you. I adore you and every single thing you’ve done for me. I’ll never get tired of telling you just how special you are.” And as he says this, his hand slides over from the back of her head to the side, where his fingers rest on one of the girl’s ears. She quickly jolts away from the forehead touch, her cheeks reddened, eyes bright and shiny, almost like the moonlight that was starting to peek over from the clouds.
“Was that too much?” Ezikiel assumes and questions, hoping he didn’t make the girl actually uncomfortable. Even though he himself loved the touch, maybe she didn’t feel the same. Yet, what he sees next fills him with joy. Though she shakes slightly, her expression is that of a heartfelt smile, even while her two ears are as red as her cheeks.
“Not at all! I was just surprised but… I can see why you’re so fond of those subtle touches to your ears and tail. It feels… strangely welcoming.” Alisaie replies, her smile unwavering, causing Ezikiel’s heart to continue beating in such a rush. Truly, he is happy, showing a smile of his own.
“It’s very comforting. It always lets me know you are supporting me, loving me.” After all, touches had a certain magic to them, they were a language of their own and it seemed his most sensitive spots knew about them. She can’t help but stare at him with endearment right after he says those words and, soon, she noticed a reflection from the corner of her eyes.
“Oh! Here it is, Ezikiel!” She says before leaning right by his side and encouraging him to look up at the sky.
“I showed you a starry sky before… Now I want to show you a quietly colorful one.” Alisaie says, voice deep in love as she is. Ezikiel’s eyes widen as he witnesses a beautiful spectacle first-hand. Aurora borealis , a myriad of lights decorating the night sky in fluctuations. It was just as the girl said – beautiful and deeply silent. It reminded him of her, somehow. Her devotion to the things and people she cared for could be quiet, but a true sight to see. The fact that he felt deeply touched was an understatement. To think that she set this date exactly at the right moment for him to be able to see something so amazing… It made him joyful. Every time he thought that maybe things couldn’t get any better than this, Alisaie surprised him with something bigger, bolder.
As silent as the show up above, he leans over his head against the girl’s, wrapping a hand around her and gazing up at the sky. Soon enough, though, he feels her shiver and a chuckle comes out.
“Right. We never did put our coats on, huh?” As he says this, he quickly takes the girl’s coat and wraps it around her before putting on his own. Alisaie, on her end, takes out some of the sandwiches and hot cocoa she had prepared, serving two cups and handing the other his share of the food.
Returning to their initial position, they cuddle together as they observe the sky. It reminds them of the starry night back at Sharlayan, the vows they shared, and how far they had come.
Ezikiel knew that tonight, Alisaie would not leave his side, they’d be able to share another night hugging each other to sleep, to then inevitably be greeted by the mesmerizing face of the one he adored so deeply.

Chapter Text
It’s a special day and Alisaie could not keep quiet about it.
In truth, she hadn’t kept quiet about it for what appeared to be weeks. Everyone in her vicinity knew of this day, for she would speak about it daily.
At first, she thought of preparing a surprise party for her boyfriend, to celebrate such a special date, his upcoming nameday, but to her own surprise, she could not keep quiet about it. Not even with him. She felt the need to share with Ezikiel the broad ideas in mind for it, as well as ask him for opinions. It didn’t take him long to know what she was setting up.
“Yes, Ezikiel, it’s as you assumed… I am planning a nameday party for you. It was supposed to be a surprise, but I guess I’m worse at surprises than I thought.” She admits, sighing to herself but immediately after picking up the cheerful demeanor she had.
“So, now I will just make it a regular party.” As she says this, Ezikiel’s ears perk up and she quickly catches wind of it. “But– before you say anything …” She pauses, staring back at him, a smile present before she places a hand over his head, petting him gently. “You will not be involved in the preparations, alright?”
“What? Why not?” Ezikiel asks with a pout. She chuckles at the reaction, it was just as she had expected. Of course he wanted to help, he always did, and though she appreciated and adored that side of him, she would not let him partake in the preparations to his own party. The petting stops and she places her hands on her hips, shaking her head.
“Because this will be your party. It’s a day to celebrate you and the fact that you’re still here with us. I won’t have you having to work for it. So, relax and let me handle everything. After all, this was my idea and I want to see it through myself.”
“I just don’t want you to push yourself…” Ezikiel replies, but Alisaie moves closer to him, hands to his shoulders, massaging him gently.
“Don’t worry about me, Ezikiel, I am way stronger than that. A small party will not put me down. I am actually looking forward to working on it. So, please allow me! And answer any questions I may ask throughout the week.”
“If I can help at least a little with that, then I will answer everything to the best of my ability, Alisaie.”
“That’s what I like to hear.” She finishes and the two share a small peck before she is off to continue her preparations.
Such preparations had her traveling from Garlemald to Old Sharlayan and even to the main cities of Eorzea. She clearly was giving it her all and, though it seemed to be a lot of work, never once did she complain. As Ezikiel could see it, Alisaie was much more radiant than before.
“She’s doing something big for a person she loves, I think that’s all the incentive she needs to keep going.” Alphinaud speaks to Ezikiel about the situation during one of their breaks in Garlemald. “We used to have parties like those all the time back at home. Whenever our nameday came up, our parents considered it a very special occasion. Father would never miss one. He’d rather get in trouble at his work than miss our nameday.”
“I take it namedays are special for the both of you too, then?”
“Yes, I never truly took a second to think about it, but I suppose so. Is it not the same for you?” Alphinaud’s question makes Ezikiel pause, turning to glance at the snowy plains.
“I guess I also never truly paid much attention to it… But this one feels very special to me already, thanks to her.” He finishes, a content smile present as he turns over to the Elezen. “How are the preparations going?”
“Nice try, Ezikiel! But Alisaie told me not to give details about it, so I will not. Just know, we got it under control and I think you’re going to enjoy yourself.” The two share a good laugh before moving back to work as the day moves onward, nighttime arriving as Ezikiel’s nameday approaches.
“Wake up! Wake up, love!” The sweet voice of the one he adores calls for him out of the land of dreams and into reality. He feels her hands on his chest, tapping lightly. They change course, twitching his ears gently but with giddiness as she attempts to keep her excitement at bay.
“Ezikiel? Wake up… Come on, do you know what day it is?”
“...I’m… awake…” Ezikiel whispers, half-awake, eyes opening slowly. He sees specks of red and white, intense blues staring right back at him. Finally, he makes the image of his girlfriend, bright as all lights of the universe. Though he felt like she had woken him up a little too early, he couldn’t help but feel excitement. The way she stared at him, like he was the only person that existed in the world did wonders to his exhaustion, completely dissipating it.
“Good! Do you know?” Alisaie asked once more, leaning close to him. Before he could reply, she locked their lips in a small kiss and then another. “Do you?”
“I do… You’ve reminded me all of these days, I couldn’t forget.”
“Well, what are you doing laying down? You have to get up and celebrate!”
“This early?” He asks and the girl nods, pulling his arm slightly to get him out of the bed.
“Yes! We have to use every bell of the day to make the most out of it! …Happy Nameday, Ezikiel.” Those are her words of good morning. She is about to run off before she stops, turns back to him, leans over to hug him, plants a soft kiss on each of his cheeks and then truly dashes off.
“Hurry! The ship is waiting for you!” She screams from over the hallway, which prompts him to sit down on the bed. His ears twitch one after the other as he scratches his eyes, proceeding to stretch and yawn. His tail sways as he decides to hurry and prepare himself – not before taking a second to grab a small box from a drawer. He takes a deep breath, staring at it with a content smile and then jolting as he almost forgot he had to hurry in between the sweet thoughts in his head. Despite it being so early, he didn’t want to keep both Alisaie and the ship crew waiting. It was time to return to Old Sharlayan.
“Sir! Happy nameday!” One of the sailors chants as the others follow and Ezikiel can’t help but feel slightly embarrassed, ears dropping as he smiles apologetically in an attempt to thank them without having to say anything. He rushed away towards the inside of the ship where he found Alisaie speaking to some other person there. As expected, the subject was Ezikiel’s birthday.
“Is that him? The man of the hour!” The sailor says as both he and Alisaie turn towards the already embarrassed Ezikiel. His tail jolts, standing straight in place as he rushes towards Alisaie.
“What’s all this about?” He says and the girl goes in for a small hug.
“What do you mean? It’s your nameday! Everyone needs to know and, as expected, everyone is truly happy about it. You’ve helped more people than you can imagine, your nameday might as well be a holiday.” She speaks with a tone so joyful that Ezikiel can’t help but feel his heart shake. It was a strange feeling, to both be happy and kind of bashful about the situation.
“I’ve never had so many people congratulate me… I never thought anyone would care much about it.”
“Are you kidding? Even if you were to be a regular person, many of us would be so grateful about you being born… Your nameday is important, many of us appreciate having you in our lives, so we want to celebrate that.”
“Plus, we always welcome a good reason to drink some ale!” The sailor says with a loud cackle before patting the boy on the back. “We have some food around available, since it is your nameday, you can just suit yourselves!”
The couple thanks the man and walks over to the dining area of the room, choosing to get some light snacks and sit down. They share some idle chatter while Alisaie tries her best to make Ezikiel enjoy the sailing as much as possible, keeping things lighthearted and making sure that the other enjoyed even the littlest things.
“You made them take the scenic route, Alisaie?”
“I told you we had to enjoy your nameday to the fullest. The voyage comes included!”
“I suppose so. But, I just needed you to be here to make the voyage amazing.”
“Oh, you’re such a charmer, aren’t you?” Alisaie comments, playfully pushing him before pulling him back in. Today, more than any other, she was especially close to Ezikiel, wanting to provide him with as much affection as possible. Despite them growing used to being so affectionate with each other, she wanted to make it more apparent today.
Holding his hand, she walks out of the ship once they reach Old Sharlayan’s harbor. Somehow, they both felt at home. It was good to be back. The road towards the mansion was familiar, but even that usual scenery felt new and refreshing. There was a lighthearted feeling to the air, as if this day truly was a special one for every single person around. In truth, Alisaie was convinced that it was, and she could not help but feel pure joy due to it.
On the road, Ezikiel could see the mansion from afar, intricate small lights were decorating it outside, and balloons of all colors surrounded it. At the entrance, Ameliance and Fourchenault awaited along with their servants.
The woman by the door quickly placed hands on her chest in excitement as she saw the two approach. It seemed she had been waiting for this all day.
“Ezikiel! Alisaie! Come quickly, you two must be so hungry! We have a hearty breakfast waiting for you two!”
“Hurry before it gets cold.” Fourchenault finishes for her, trying to hide his own excitement behind his grumbles and stoic nature. Despite that, he places a hand over the girl’s shoulder as they come in, a small smile forming. After all, it was great to see how bright she seemed to be now that she was in a relationship with Ezikiel. He meant it when he gave them their blessings. So, he soon offers the boy a seat close to him this time around and Ezikiel feels welcomed, not at all intimidated by him as before.
“Come, eat up! You’ll need all the energy you can get for the party!”
“Do you need help with any of it, Mi– Ameliance?” Ezikiel asks and Alisaie groans, shaking her head.
“Of course not! This is your nameday , silly. We would never make you work for it. You’ve done more than enough, Alisaie has told us much and more of your accomplishments in Garlemald, as of late. Plus, you’ve given us a hand in many things, too. Consider this our thanks to you.” Ameliance replies and Alisaie sighs in relief. Though he wants to help and somehow thinks this is too much to do for him, he nonetheless feels appreciative of their efforts, taking them to heart.
“There’s the smile I love!” Alisaie comments before her cheeks redden, prompting Ameliance to laugh and Fourchenault to clear his throat and pretend he didn’t hear a thing. Ezikiel turns to her, the expression she had mentioned intact.
The food the servants made was varied, a healthy balance between Eorzean delicacies and the Sharlayan love for all things nutritious. Thanks to this mixture, the flavors of the food were not just tasty but filling.
“Thank you so much for this,” Ezikiel says as Alisaie stands and extends a hand to him.
“Don’t thank us yet, we still have a party to enjoy. But, for now, why don’t we take a little break?” She asks as she excuses herself to her parents before taking Ezikiel back to the terrace – it seemed to be one of her favorite places to talk to with Ezikiel, wind down. She sits on the floor and invites him to do the same, observing the scenery as they usually did.
“The Scions will be arriving any moment now. I hope you enjoy what we have in store for you.” Alisaie comments, seeming just a bit insecure. A hand is placed on top of hers, warm and strong. She turns to the man she loves, hopeful.
“You don’t need to do much to impress me, you know that, right?”
“I know, but this is the first time we’re celebrating your nameday as a couple… I want you to remember it forever.”
“I will remember it. It’s already very special, you’ve made sure of that. Even the week leading up to it has been exciting. I need nothing more.” And though he says this, his head drifts to another thought. After all, he also had something he wanted to show her, he reached for it with his free hand, sliding it into his pocket… Maybe he would once the party was over.
For now, the two would lean against each other and talk about inconsequential things, all the while looking forward to seeing their friends again. And it doesn’t take long for them to arrive.
“Ezikiel, Alisaie! It’s been far too long!” G’raha Tia is the first one to speak as the couple comes down the stairs – the announcement of the Scions arriving prompting them to leave the terrace and go enjoy the party that was now about to start.
Ezikiel waves at G’raha Tia and the Scions entering the door before he takes a minute to look at the room. It was impressive, how the servants and even Alisaie’s parents had worked so hard yet so quickly to make the room seem even livelier than during the morning. It was full of those glowing lights they had outside, balloons, ribbons, serene music; anything and everything that would make you feel welcomed and comfortable but also festive.
“Maybe I went a little too overboard with the recommendations…” Alisaie comments as she stares at the room alongside him, but Ezikiel shakes his head and places a small kiss on her forehead.
“It’s just right, Alisaie. It’s unlike any place I’ve seen before.” Or any nameday he had experienced before her.
The Scions reach for the couple after placing their own snacks and gifts on some of the tables around. G’raha Tia takes the liberty to give a hug to both Alisaie and Ezikiel. Thancred extends his hand to greet Ezikiel after, as Urianger places a hand on Alisaie’s shoulder, patting her lightly. Alphinaud and Y’shtola nod at them as Estinien can only cross his arms with a small smirk of his own.
“Oh, it’s so good to see you two without having to think of work right after!” Tataru exclaims and Krile giggles, agreeing with her.
“Who would’ve thought the Warrior of Light’s nameday could be the perfect chance to take a vacation?” Krile speaks and Y’shtola follows.
“Knowing him, he would probably find something to do even between such a good excuse for a vacation…”
“Tell me about it. I had to convince him time and time again to stand down…” Alisaie replied with a groan. Turning to him, she notices a pout and quickly pinches his cheek before pinching one of his ears, as well. “Oh, it’s alright! It’s part of your charm, but you can’t overwork yourself every day! Especially not today!”
“She has the right of it, Ezikiel. T’is a day to feast and laze about, you needn’t push yourself any further than you have.” Urianger completes the girl’s thoughts and Ezikiel sighs but ends up agreeing.
“Well, with that out of the way, why don’t we enjoy ourselves as we should?” Thancred asks, walking over towards the ale. “I’ll serve the drinks.”
“Don’t get drunk before you can fill our cups.” Tataru teases, though it is more of a warning, eyes trying to advise him to be more careful with his drinking this time around. In response, Thancred shrugs but proceeds to do as he intended, serving drinks to some of the group.
“I’ll take regular juice instead.” Alphinaud says and Alisaie follows.
“Me too! I need to be as alert as I can, make sure Ezikiel is enjoying himself.”
And she kept her word. During the party, she would encourage Ezikiel to participate in the Triple Triad Tournament, miscellaneous drinking games, and physical-oriented competitions she had set up for everyone to partake in. Soon enough, the group found themselves exhausted, but ready for one last highlight event for the day.
Alisaie gently pushed the boy over to the outside of the mansion, where a large table and some seats had been set up for the group. There, in the middle of the table was a giant cake of many different flavors, with sparks shining all over, decorated to the brim.
“I couldn’t decide upon one, so I ended up choosing a few flavors… and designs.” Alisaie says as she turns to Ezikiel, who’s mismatched eyes widen as he studies the cake and the scenery. Surrounding the cake are his dearest friends, even Ameliance and Fourchenault and, by his side, his lover – the one he’d fight the world for.
“This is amazing, Alisaie… You didn’t have to.” Somehow, the feeling sinks in, his heart skips in joy, in boundless gratefulness towards Alisaie and The Scions themselves. All of the efforts everyone went through were more than appreciated, yet it was the fact that he could see them, that he had been able to enjoy practically a whole day with his loved ones, that truly made this day special.
“Nonsense. You deserve this and much more. Go on, make a wish, Ezikiel.” She encourages before planting a small kiss on his cheek. She walks over with him, hand-holding as he prepares himself. He closes his eyes for a bit and the group waits. Delivering a quiet wish into the aether, he blows the candles and everyone cheers. Just as he is about to turn to Alisaie and hug her, lights fill both the garden and the skies. Sparklers surrounding them sprinkle different colors as elegant lanterns come fluttering down seemingly from the sky, illuminating their vicinity.
It brings chills to his spine and the sheer excitement makes his ears and tail twitch as he holds onto his lover as tight as possible. She softly caresses his hair as she whispers a gentle “happy nameday” to him, a kiss over strands of hair. It doesn’t take long for him to stare back at her, hands to her shoulders, love crystal clear in his eyes.
Without missing a second, he lowers down onto one knee and Alisaie feels her heart is about to burst, eyes widening and growing watery in what feels like a heartbeat.
“I was meaning to give you this all day. I know it is my nameday and that it should be a celebration just for me, but… you are such an integral part of me – a companion for life, I wanted to show you just that.” A hand goes over his pocket and he takes out a small, but intricate box. Showing it over to her, he opens it to reveal a glistening diamond ring.
“You have made me the happiest person these past months, and I hope that with this, I can show you just how much I want you. This day is more than a nameday to me, it’s another chance to enjoy your presence, to celebrate that I have you. I never want to lose you, Alisaie. I love you wholeheartedly, please accept me for life.”
It leaves her and the rest of the group dumbfounded. Though they are quick to catch up and be touched by such a gesture, Alisaie takes a bit to say anything, places hands on her mouth to hide the fact that it was agape, as petrified as she felt. The feeling was… incredibly good, but so overwhelming, that tears started to run down by themselves.
“Ezikiel… There you go again, outdoing me in every turn.” She jokes, laughing lightly as she tries to dry her tears before returning to that smile she had been holding onto all day. “I love you, now and for eternity. This ring…”
“It’s a promise to you, Alisaie. A promise of our love.”
“If that’s the case then how can I not accept it?” A deep breath, she extends her ring finger to the boy, who slides the ring to it, careful and gentle before pulling her hand close to kiss both her knuckles and then the ring. She pulls him up to lock his lips against hers for a longer kiss as she caresses his hair and another hand keeps him pulled close. Once she backs away, she speaks again.
“This is a promise from both of us, Ezikiel. A promise of love we’ll both keep.”
The group cheered once more for the couple, running to them, giving them their blessings, hugging them, and overall being a jovial bunch.
Truly, it had been a special day and, for years to come, Alisaie knew she would not be able to keep quiet about it.

And that's it, for now! I hope this was to your liking! Hope you have a great day!

Chapter Text
This day came after a little wish was made, a small desire to break out of their constant duties. It seemed there was never a chance to truly unwind, but somehow, the right moment eventually came – all during a hot Summer’s day.
“Alisaie, don’t take long, the sun is out and it’s so warm!” Out of their designated cabana for the day, Ezikiel stands, feet in the sand, body stretching against the intense rays of the sun, a smile present. His ears stretch and his tail stands upright, basking in the much needed warmth. Spending so much time in Garlemald had made them grow too used to the winter-like atmosphere, to the unforgiving weather. Summer didn’t truly feel like Summer in a place that was so bound to the cold.
It wasn’t a surprise that, the moment they reached Costa del Sol, they somehow felt relieved. It was as if visiting a new star, as if their bodies had forgotten just how much they loved the warmth, to be greeted by a sun burning with such fervor, so real they couldn’t even peek over to it. Needless to say, it was a pleasant feeling that could not be found anywhere else. And this was the very reason why they had chosen to have a break there. Ezikiel had commented on how his body felt a little more stiff than usual and Alisaie had also surmised they needed a change of pace, both in location and the temperature they were getting used to.
“I’ll be right there, Ezikiel! You can go ahead, I won’t be long, promise!” Alisaie indicates while getting her swimsuit ready. She had bought a new one recently, specifically for this occasion. Of course, it had her signature reds and whites, but she had decided to expose just a little bit more of her body for her boyfriend. An intricately decorated two-piece swimsuit seemed like the best choice this time.
Once satisfied with the result, she took her bag and ran out towards the sandy beach, where she could see a couple of people enjoying themselves, spotting Ezikiel a little ways away, right by the edge of the water.
“You haven’t gotten in yet?” Alisaie asks, seeing as he is completely dry and Ezikiel turns, ears perked. He takes a bit to answer, choosing to observe her. Alisaie’s hair is completely down, attire matching her lively spirit – he didn’t know how she always found a way to look so radiant, to make him fall all over for her.
“I wanted to wait for you!” He says, tail swaying as he steps over to her, helping her with her bag, placing it by the side of his own. Alisaie’s hand immediately goes to pet the boy’s head, ruffling both hairs and the edges of his ears. “You look amazing, by the way.”
“Thank you, you look great yourself. Peace suits you, always. And so does the light of the sun.” She comments, seeming relieved that he had agreed to go out and relax today. It was a last-minute plan, but she knew if they didn’t take this chance, they’d just remain stuck once again in the loop of duty, of their sense of responsibility.
“Well, thank you for waiting, then. Let’s not delay and get in.” Her hand slides away towards his own, holding onto it before she is now the one helping him into the water. Though it takes him a bit to actually get in, sliding toes carefully, Alisaie is patient, slowly but surely pulling him in. “It’s very nice, isn’t it? Not too warm, but not too cold.”
“Right, like last time,” he replies, remembering Alisaie’s surprise date a while ago. It made the girl smile.
“You remember that?” She asks and, as he continues to walk into the water, Ezikiel nods, ears twitching.
“Of course I do! I could never forget all of the things you’ve done for me, all the days we’ve spent together. It all feels like a dream.”
“Believe me, all of this is so much better than one.” Pulling him close to her, Alisaie holds onto Ezikiel, a hand holding over his tail absentmindedly as she lays her head on his chest. She could stay there forever, and he could hold onto her, stroke her hairs and back for an eternity. They remain there, enjoying every single second that goes by, spinning quietly around the sea.
It’s comfortable, incredibly so, it feels like home – it always does when she holds onto him, when she is there and no one else exists for the two. Tail swaying quickly, he holds something back, he bites his lips and almost claws against her, hands grasping her just a little tighter. She doesn’t notice the reason, she can only enjoy the way he keeps her close, the way he seems to need her just as she does him. She could never get enough of him, she never wanted to get enough of him. She quietly thanked the Twelve for his survival, for keeping him in her life. Her eyes close and she sinks into the feeling of the moment…
Finally, after a few minutes of peace, Alisaie decides to part from the embrace, leaving the softness of Ezikiel’s chest to stare back at his mismatched eyes. A hand goes to his cheek, water sliding from over it as she gently caresses him. Ezikiel is now the one to sink into the peace she gives him, eyes closing, enjoying the sensation and taking a deep breath, trying to keep himself controlled before he hears the girl gasp. Eyes opening wide, ears perking and tail twitching, he tilts his head.
“What’s wrong?” He asks, seeming slightly alarmed that maybe he had missed something, done something wrong. Instead, the girl glances over to their side nearby, pointing to a spot in particular and then another.
“Look at all the fishes, Ezikiel! And the shark right over there!” Her voice denotes excitement, but also shock. Though they had gone on many adventures together, the little things like these still got to her. It was endearing to see, and also a relief, to be able to enjoy a more simple part of her. He couldn’t ever get enough of that.
“It’s so pretty, it feels like they want to surround us. Maybe they also feel as good as I do when near you.” He denies those words, shaking his head slightly, but instead of audibly refuting, remains quiet. Instead, he eyes the colorful fishes traveling over the water almost like a predator ready to attack and he holds back the desire to just try and catch some. Alisaie can’t help but laugh at the realization of this and soon tackle hugs him again, holding tightly to him and causing him to splash against the water a bit.
“You know, you’re really cute when you do that!” She says and Ezikiel turns to her, confused.
“Do what?” Alarms ring in his head again, but the girl cheerfully and unconsciously tries to stop the ringing.
“You know… that! ” How could she even explain it, she wonders. Ezikiel had some quirks of his own, things only he did that were lovely to see. It didn’t happen often, but she always found herself starstruck when it did. Her hands lift back and squish the boy’s ears, causing them to react and twitch by themselves as the boy takes a deep breath. It seems as if he were trying so hard not to squeal or something, which is very cute to Alisaie so she giggles as a response and soon shakes her head.
“Oh, actually, I know! Let’s do something fun, Ezikiel!”
“Like what, Alisaie? Do you want to play a game or so?” He asks as she starts swimming over to the shore, prompting him to follow her despite seeming so confused but thoroughly curious.
“Even better!” Running over to her bag and his, she takes out two pairs of gloves, throwing one over to him the moment he is out of the water. The boy’s reflexes help him catch the gloves despite him seeming unprepared. “Let’s spar!”
“Huh? Spar? You want to spar now?” Ezikiel asks, still trying to connect the dots as to her idea.
“Yes! It won’t be anything serious, I promise! I said we’d relax and that’s what we’re going to do, but I also want you to exert all the energy you can before the day ends or else this won’t have been worth it. It’s the only way you’ll actually be obligated to relax.” Placing red gloves over her hands, the Elezen walks over to an opposing side of the Miqo’te, encouraging him to put his gloves on.
“Are you sure about this, Alisaie?” Ezikiel asks and, though he knows what her reply will be, he still waits for her determined nod. Once it is there, he shrugs and places his gloves on his hands. “You know that, if we do this, I won’t hold back.”
“I wouldn’t ever want you to, Ezikiel. We’re doing this.” With those words, the two take a defensive stance and Ezikiel prompts for the girl to start.
Taking a deep breath, she lunges over to him and their fight commences. Blows are traded almost equally at first, with Alisaie going all out since the start. After all, she knew just who she had challenged. Yet, she seemed confident in at least making him break a sweat, which was her goal.
Her punches are dodged and parried almost to perfection by the Miqo’te, who eyes the girl’s movement carefully. As if she were an enemy, he wasn’t about to let her win this match. No, he wanted to prove himself strong to her eyes and anyone’s. He promised he wouldn’t hold back and he didn’t, his blows strong and quick. Though the girl did dodge and parry here and there, some blows were too quick and too strong for her not to be swept off her feet, despite her using her arms to guard from them.
She wouldn’t give up though, as many times as she fell, she stood up and continued fighting.
“You’re going to have to try harder than that, Ezikiel! Don’t treat me like small fry, I’m part of the group for a reason.”
“Oh, I have more where that came from and I couldn’t ever underestimate you if I tried.” He replies and wastes no time, tackling the girl towards the sand. She lands against it, Ezikiel landing right on top of her, eyes glistening with a determination unlike any other. Those were the eyes of the Warrior of Light, the eyes of a protector – the eyes she had fallen in love with, both in and out of the field. Blue eyes widen as she stares at him from up close and, finally, she lets out a hearty, but exhausted laugh.
“It’s impossible to get the upper hand against you, isn’t it?” Lighthearted words bring the boy back to tranquility and he smiles back and nods, sweat trickling around his forehead. “At least I did meet my goal, thank the Twelve…”
“Yeah, you’re not an opponent to be trifled with.” He lets her know, but the girl scoffs yet again.
“Oh, please, surely this was nothing to you, compared to all the earth-shattering battles you’ve had to face.”
“Well, fighting my girlfriend sounds worse than you might think. I didn’t want to hurt you.”
“Always so sweet, even though I was the one that asked for a spar. Ezikiel, will there be a day in which I don’t feel completely enamored by you?” With a hand on his back, she pulls him down against her for their lips to meet.
“Well, you won, and you are, hopefully, exhausted, right?”
“Yes, I am,” Ezikiel answers, turning over to throw himself against the sand near the girl. The two seem to be taking a breather for a while, hands intertwining as they gaze upon the dimming sky. Hues started to change, announcing the coming of the evening. “But I don’t want this day to end.”
“It doesn’t have to, not yet. Come on, let’s take one last swim, yeah? I know you still have some energy left to take out and I’ve heard the corals glow beautifully during the night!” Alisaie is the first to stand from the sand, helping her boyfriend up, pulling him with her hands held tightly to his. After he is up, Ezikiel runs to the water first, crouching down to his back towards her. “What are you doing?”
“Here, let me carry you there,” he says and Alisaie’s face grows joyful, quickly jumping over, wrapping hands around his neck and over his chest. He holds her legs and proceeds to walk over to the water. Using his legs to swim slightly and keep the two from sinking, he reaches over a rock protruding from over the water, stopping right by its side and proceeding to sit on top of it. Alisaie also climbs over to sit alongside Ezikiel. She scoots closer, laying her head against his shoulder. Soon enough, the sky grows darker and the corals glow from over the water.
“We tend to watch the stars when we lay down together.” Ezikiel comments as he wraps an arm around Alisaie, to keep her close.
“Right… It seems to be our thing. I think these corals are also like stars in a different setting, but just as beautiful. And so delightful because I get to watch them with you.” Though it doesn’t take long for the two to turn their attention to each other. They enjoy their eyes, the reflection of the glowing colors against their skin, the placid silence of the world against the waves, the trickling drops of water against them.
She knows his sentiment as much as he knows her’s; they don’t want this to end, not even now, not even though they know they’ll be close to each other tomorrow and the day after. Despite having each other each and every day, to be together in a moment so simple was something the two had quickly grown fond of, just because they could share each other without inhibitions. Yet, even this moment had to come to an end… but the end didn’t have to be there just yet.
“We should be heading back.” Alisaie mentions after the sky seems completely engulfed in darkness. Not another soul was around except for them both. Ezikiel’s ears drop down as Alisaie moves away from his warmth. He turned to her, quiet, yet his expression revealed what he wanted to say. Alisaie’s face, in turn, changes into a gentle smile. As she usually did, she reaches over to his ears, caressing their edges and trying to lift them up.
“Let’s lay down together back at the cabana and rest… We still have the night to enjoy. Our outing is not over yet, it won’t be for a long time, you have my word.” With those words, Ezikiel’s state of mind shifts from sadness to excitement. He is the one to quickly stand from the rock and even splash into the water without thought. As he resurfaces, Alisaie notices his slight shivering.
“Oh! It must be getting cold in there, no? Let’s hurry to the cabana! I’ll race you there!” Alisaie splashes right near him and starts swimming as quickly as possible, he follows suit and the two reach the shore without delay. Taking quick and deep breaths, Alisaie speaks as they walk out towards their designated hut.
“Technically… I won because… Well–” Right before she could formulate her reasoning in between breaths, Ezikiel interrupts her.
“Of course not! It was a tie, fair and square! …Even though you started swimming before I did!” Ezikiel refutes as Alisaie laughs yet again and so does he. Thankfully, their hut was close to the beach, so it didn't take long for them to arrive. And the two take a shower before they get on their pajamas, ready to lay down.
Sharing the big bed available, the two huddle over together as if there weren’t any space, holding each other while they prepare to sleep the night away. While Ezikiel took the chance to rest his head on Alisaie’s chest like she had done with him earlier, Alisaie did not delay to soothe the boy as she adored doing. She’d pet his head, intertwine her fingers against his hairs and play with them, but also calm the boy’s swaying tail inattentively. It was serene and noiseless, so much so that the girl was about to sleep away…
Ezikiel was going through the same sensation, he held tightly to her, enjoying the rhythm of her heartbeat and how they both seemed to find a way to match their breathing every single time. This was his favorite way of falling asleep, and he sure was on his way to do so when…
“ Purrr… ” It escapes him without his consent and it makes him jolt the moment he notices. Alisaie also backs away and Ezikiel feels panic seep through.
“I’m sorry! That shouldn’t have happened!” The boy says, eyes wide, cheeks flushed, fear written across his face. Yet, what he sees in Alisaie is a beautiful pink that looks not to judge but to learn.
“What do you mean? That was… such a sweet sound, Ezikiel! Why shouldn’t it have happened?” As she asks, the boy sits on the bed, causing the girl to sit back, placing a hand on his shoulder to keep him from turning away. He glances to the side, eyes on the sheets.
“No… It’s something I should be able to keep in. I’ve been trying for a long time to keep it in check. I thought I had grown out of it. I have never failed to keep it in before.”
“How can you grow out of something that is so intricately yours? Why would you want to outgrow something like that? Why keep it in?”
“Because it’s embarrassing. It’s usually frowned upon…”
“Is it? Well, even if it is, I don’t think the same. Screw what others think, screw any stupid rule that says you should keep a part of you hidden. I want you to be yourself completely with me, always. Don’t forget that.” Alisaie swears, though she almost didn’t need to, as her body language denoted such a firm resolve no one could deny. Even as he avoided eye contact, he could feel it in the touch of her hand on his cheek, the way she pulled him close again for another embrace. She reassured him with more than words, every gentle touch, caressing his neck, locking hands, kissing his ears and forehead. “From now on, don’t hold back from me, please.”
“But, won’t it be a bother?” Ezikiel sounds unsure, yet Alisaie is firm with her words.
“Why would it be? I love it, it’s a sign that I’m doing things right, that you feel so comfortable with me, enough to let everything go. Enough to show me such a beautiful sound.” Alisaie comments, her embrace turning tighter. She feels his hands wrap against her, hold onto her and hide away as another purr comes out, causing his tail to sway alarmed. But she calms it right down, tracing fingers all over it.
“Somehow, when it’s you who hears me,… it feels good…” He whispers, hoping she doesn’t really hear those words in particular, but she does and a smile forms, eyes closing.
“I’m glad it does. You needn’t hold back with me. This is a part of you… To think that someone as strong as you can be this vulnerable, this true to me… Do you know just how happy that makes me? How lucky I am. I wouldn’t ever want to miss something like this.”
“I’m the lucky one. I’m… glad you like it. When we’re alone, I want to keep myself from holding back, I want to show you everything just as you’ve asked of me. Even those parts that embarrass me, those parts other people don’t like.”
“I’ll gladly accept them all. Here, alone or surrounded by people, in every circumstance – let me witness every part of you. My vow to you is real, Ezikiel. I love you, every single part of you, even the bad parts. Just as you’ve loved mine.”
“That’s all I need… You are all I need, Alisaie. Thank you, thank you.” It was always a wonder to her, that someone like him would need such simple reassurance. She was glad that she could provide it, but she hoped the world was kinder to him…
Well, as she kept him there in her embrace, she realized she could take that role, instead. If the world was cruel to someone so good, she’d be the one to provide what this star lacked. And what better way to do it than to allow him to be free when with her? To adore him as she truly wanted.
With yet another desire formed, the night lasts a little longer, as if their initial wish for that day not to end was partly granted.

Chapter Text
The two had been laying down on one of the rooms they had recently set themselves in. Working in Garlemald had its benefits, or rather, Ezikiel and Alisaie had made the most out of it. To be able to cuddle together near the heater and talk about anything and everything was a blessing in itself. After returning from their small vacation to Costa del Sol, they couldn’t help but want to recreate their closeness from that night each and every other back here.
While laying down, her head against Ezikiel’s chest as she glances over the ceiling with him, Alisaie extends her hand over to glance upon the eternity ring Ezikiel had gifted her on his own Nameday. It shone beautifully, just like their promise for what was to come. A special occasion turned double the special, something Alisaie was sure only Ezikiel could’ve done.
“You know, I’ve been thinking…” Ezikiel starts speaking as he moves one of his hands close to Alisaie’s to intertwine their fingers and lightly touch the ring at the same time. “Since we will soon be… exchanging vows and sharing a future together, maybe we could try and buy a house of our own, right?”
“Oh!” Alisaie gasps in surprise. True enough, it hadn’t crossed her mind yet, as they had so much stuff going on in general, she barely stopped to try and think of a personal future. Of course, she loved to imagine herself together with Ezikiel, but never did she travel further away in her thoughts to days in which she could share a house with him, a place especially chosen by them both. The more she thinks about it, the more excited she feels and, soon she sits on the bed to turn to Ezikiel and give him a peck on the lips. He chuckles and quickly bites the girl’s cheek playfully and gently, causing her to quickly blush a bright red.
“Should I take that as a yes?” Ezikiel asks and Alisaie, though seeming embarrassed, nods to him.
“Yes, of course, Ezikiel! I’d love to live somewhere with you, together! I don’t know how I hadn’t thought about it myself, but it’s the next step we should definitely take… I do feel like I need a new place to call home.” One that feels not like the past, but like the future both she and Ezikiel deserve. Though she loved her home back at Sharlayan, the connection to it was tightly linked to the past, the trials and tribulations that got her to leave and find a new world. Now, she wanted a home in that new world, with Ezikiel.
“Well then, why don’t we go searching tomorrow?” The Miqo’te asks, pulling the girl closer again for her to lay right by his side. Deep in thought, she lifts her head a bit to glance at the other.
“You mean it? Yes, I’ll get things ready first thing in the morning, then!” Alisaie exclaims before she throws herself on top of the boy to hug him tight. He holds her back, nuzzling against her, ears shaking with his own excitement. It had been a while of thinking about it, wondering if Alisaie would’ve actually wanted a home together with him – it should’ve been a given that she’d love the idea, but he was nonetheless grateful and relieved that she thought the same as he.
After discussing this, they spend the night cuddling, holding one another as if they never had before. It never got old to be so close, to feel each other’s breathing, their heartbeats, their union. Years of challenges brought them a much deserved rest and they hoped to make the most out of it, they would fight for the sake of their future again, if they had to, but they would also partake in that future, as they had tried to remind themselves to do time and time again. With those big dreams in mind, they eventually fall asleep holding onto each other.
Morning comes and Alisaie is quick to get up and prepare for their voyage. She leaves things ready, making sure Alphinaud and the others know of their trip for the day. Though she does make it clear that, if any emergency were to happen, to let them know as quickly as possible. Alphinaud, though, would not want to interrupt their deserved adventures, their plans for the future. If anyone dared dim the glint in his sister’s eyes, he’d be the first to fight them. So, he sends her off with the promise that she won’t be needing to handle anything during the days in which she is to share with Ezikiel.
“I know I do not say this much, but thank you, Alphinaud.” She is much more determined to show her affection, giving the boy a light hug, though one that does not last for too long. That was enough for him.
“Of course, sister. I’ll always be here for you. Don’t ever forget that.” With those words, her smile is made and she rushes off. She then walks back into the room to find Ezikiel already getting ready to go out.
“You didn’t have to wake up so early, Ezikiel!” She lets him know, but he shakes his head, ears perked as he puts a coat on, stepping over towards her.
“I couldn’t sleep more than I already did. I’m too excited to go see our potential home.”
“Me too… Which reminds me, while preparing things I was thinking of where we’d settle in and…” She wavers a little but soon speaks again anyway. “Would it be fine to check the houses around Gridania, maybe?”
“The Lavender Beds? Yeah, I’ve heard it’s a beautiful place, full of greenery.”
“Exactly… I thought maybe it’d be a good place for us to have as much privacy as possible. It’s a place that reminds me of home, even though it’s not Sharlayan at all.” The mention of her home reminds Ezikiel of that little detail.
“You sure you wouldn’t want to be there, instead?”
“In Sharlayan? Not at all! I want to… have a place of my own, you know? A place new to both of us, one that we can turn into our own corner of the world and no one else’s.”
“That sounds good to me,” in fact, it was the same sentiment he had in mind. No need to cling to the past or to other’s, they could make something new from their own love, from the future they were so determined to create.
With this settled, the two go on a trip to one of the main cities of Eorzea; Gridania, specifically their residential area. And a new, small adventure begins.
Arriving in Gridania always felt like a dream, as if they had found a secret forest full of faerie tales and wonderful quests to come. The sensation prepares them to greet the streets of The Lavender Beds, where the two then start sightseeing. They walk all over the place, from the shore, to the highest corner of the Beds in which they could overlook the whole area. Everywhere they looked, they were greeted by flowers of many different colors and lively residents greeting them and wishing them luck in finding the best plot they could. Not only were they excited to meet the Warrior of Light around those parts, but also Alisaie, a fellow Scion who had her own good reputation, both as one of the saviors of the star and as her own person. With such lighthearted encounters, the two have a good feeling of the place already.
“What do you think of this one, Ezikiel? It looks big enough for the both of us, no?” Alisaie asks as she walks over to a medium plot close to a riverbend. Turning to him, she notices his ears dropping just a little bit, seeming skeptical.
“Well, it is a nice space, but… I think it’s a little small.” Taking into account where the girl used to live and all the things he would have to move over, the place would feel crowded or, worse, there would not be any space for them both. Alisaie places a hand over her chin, thoughtful. True enough, she had decided on a medium plot because of the potential need for space, and yet…
“Is it? I mean… Aren’t the large plots a little expensive?”
“You think so? I don’t think they’re that bad… I have more than enough for them.”
“Wait, what?” Alisaie stops on her tracks, turning to him, eyes widened. “You have… that much gil to spend?” True enough, if it was her parents, she would not mind, but pushing Ezikiel to buy a house so big and expensive seemed a little excessive to her. So, when he seemed so tranquil about it, she couldn’t help but be shocked.
“Yeah! I have much more than that, so you shouldn’t settle for a medium plot… I honestly think we should get a bigger place for us.”
“Well, yeah, but… I wouldn’t want to waste your money on that. Surely you need that money for other stuff, no?”
“I do take the chance to give some of it to others. I’ve been able to find some charities all over the land, so I’ve been trying to give them all more than enough to help out. But I still have a lot of money to spare… Crafting is very profitable.”
“Ezikiel…” Alisaie whispers, touched by his first words. Long gone was the shock to hear that Ezikiel was… practically rich and probably even richer than her parents at this point, replaced by how big his heart was, instead. “Here I thought you did more than enough helping anyone and everyone you find along the way and there you go doing even more than that. It’s amazing and… honestly, it reminds me of the fact that I’ve been wanting to do something similar.”
“You want to give to charities too, Alisaie?” Ezikiel asks, an encouraging tone ringing as she shakes her head, prompting his curiosity in the sway of his tail.
“No, more like… helping people more directly. With my abilities, I could do something for others, I’m sure of it… Like both you and Mother have been doing, helping exchange students out and all that, maybe I could do something similar.”
“That’s a beautiful thought, Alisaie. I say, you should go for it. It’s a delight to be able to give a helping hand, I’m sure it’ll be fulfilling to you, just like it has been for me.”
“You’re part of my inspiration to try it out, so I’m sure it will be just like you say.” The girl pauses, staring at the medium plot and shaking her head.
“I guess you’re right… If we have such big dreams, we should have a big house to keep them going and make more of them come true. You need your space to craft and I my own space to do my own thing – whatever that will be.”
“Right! We have to find the perfect house, for us and the things we wish to accomplish, both together and by ourselves.” Ezikiel confirms, moving close to her, lightly biting the top of her ear, which prompts her to shiver and hide her face with her hands.
“Don’t do that, Ezikiel!” She tries to scold him, but there is laughter mixed up in it, a clear sign that she doesn’t actually mind it.
“Why? It makes your cheeks look so beautifully red.” He takes the liberty to tease and the girl groans, glaring from over the spaces of her fingers.
“Because! It’s even more embarrassing when you do it right out here where anyone can see!”
“Well, let them see. You’re soon going to be my wife, so they should know that you are mine and I am yours.”
“Oh you–” Alisaie quickly finds shelter in his chest, holding tight to him, hiding her face for a bit before getting rid of the embarrassment, both her cheeks and ears dimming the red color back to normal, ready to tackle the search again. Parting from his hug, she takes the chance to lightly tickle the other’s ears to get back at him, causing them to shake and the boy to recoil with a chuckle. “Alright! I am ready now, let’s keep going!”
Before he can try to get back to her, Alisaie bolts away to the next spot.
“Look at this one, Ezikiel! Isn’t this a good spot?” She asks, pointing over at the large plot by a small mountain, with a waterfall to its back. It was far enough to keep their home private but close enough to help them make their way back to civilization if they ever desired it. Plus, the bridge that had been designed for people to walk around and enjoy the view of the large waterfall coupled with the scenery of the whole place from the commodity of their home seemed more than worth it.
Ezikiel moves close to Alisaie, who was overlooking the residential area, hugging her from behind, resting his head on her shoulder as they both looked at the sky and the people going about down the streets and the different houses. This could be their new home… They’d love it if it was.
“This is the one, isn’t it?” She asks, seeming to fawn over the beautiful scenery they could enjoy. Ezikiel nods a little, nuzzling against her neck, prompting her to nuzzle back against him, hands intertwining with his own as they rocked each other from one side to the next.
“This is the one… It’s beautiful and I’m sure, once the house is constructed, it’ll be even better.” Ezikiel confirms and the Elezen turns over to him, smiling widely before she pulls him in for a kiss, ruffling his hairs and playing with his ears in the process. Ezikiel ruffles her hair and lightly touches the girl’s sensitive ears as if to get back at her as well, but soon enough the two part from the kiss and their little game before returning to a tight hug.
“I’ll get everything settled, then. This will be our new home.” The boy lets Alisaie know and they both decide to take a longer stroll around Gridania, settle down for a bit and eat some food before the papers are signed and the house is paid.
It doesn’t take long for the plot’s bones to be built. Of course, Alisaie and Ezikiel help out on the process, adding some of their own choices here and there and sharing their plans for the future with the crafters helping them out. In the blink of an eye, or what seemed to be one, their house was built and ready to be filled with life and the myriad of things they needed. Before the things could arrive, though, Alisaie and Ezikiel took a chance to stroll around the inside of what was soon to be their new home.
“It’s beautiful even though it is so empty, right now.”
“Yeah, imagine how it’ll be once we fill it with everything that is dear to us.”
“Well, you’re already here, which is more than I could ask for. No amount of gifts or space could make up for you, Ezikiel, truly.” As they walk around the house, taking the stairs up, Alisaie stops where their room was to be in. She stares at it for a bit, feeling emotions fill her chest. A hand goes to it and she takes a deep breath. That unbearable feeling was joy, she was sure of it. Joy and hope – both things Ezikiel had always given her. She had a home for herself and her lover now and, somehow, it made her eyes grow watery, her smile shaking.
Ezikiel almost didn’t notice as he strolled about, glancing at every nook and cranny, yet when he saw her stop right by the side of the window, his ears dropped and he rushed to her. There were tears streaming down her face.
“Hey! What is it, Alisaie? Are you upset?” No, there was no way she was sad, he could see her smile… Yet, he had to wonder. His hands are placed softly at her shoulders but it takes him no second to pull her in for a desperate embrace, hoping to bring her comfort.
“I’m alright, Ezikiel. It’s just… well… Seeing our home, our room. It makes it all the more real. This is our reality, it’s not a fantasy anymore, but our life. And I feel… so lucky. I am so happy, so fortunate to have this. It almost feels like a happy ending.”
“Alisaie…” Her hair on his fingers, he traces over the strands as she holds onto him, lightly touching his tail as if to confirm that this was indeed reality and not a dream. “Don’t rush yet, we still have a ways more to reach our happy ending. Don’t forget about our upcoming ceremony.”
“Ah, you’re right…” She comments, a dreamy breath in her words as she thinks about it. There was still more to enjoy and even further beyond, she could see herself being happy with the simplicity of their lives, with even the inevitability of their differences and the trials they would have to face. All of it, together.
“I needed that, Ezikiel.” She says, thanking the boy for lifting her up yet again. She tightens her embrace before noise starts to fill the street in front of them. Excitedly, she parts from the embrace before peeking over the window. “They’re here!”
“Let’s not keep them waiting!” Ezikiel responds with the same excitement as his fiancée. The two lock hands, unable to keep themselves from lovingly staring at each other for a little too long before ultimately running down the stairs to help out.
Setting their desired items for the house does take a bit longer, the sun going down on them eventually, just as they were about to finish placing the most important stuff for the day. Boxes full of things were still spread all over the house, but it was already looking like a home, their own personal space to live in, just like they imagined.
Satisfied with the result thus far, the two lay down on the couch, taking a much needed break, drinking a bit of Amra Lassi to refresh themselves and bring some of that exerted energy back. Despite feeling tired, their bodies sore from all the heavy lifting and moving, the two have wide smiles on their faces.
“This is even better than what I had imagined.” Ezikiel comments and Alisaie nods, gulping a bit of the drink before replying.
“Truly… It was a good call for you to ask for a bigger house… Look at all the stuff we still have to put around. There’s no way it would’ve fit in some place even an inch smaller than this.” From there, she could see the doors to the different workshops specifically made for Ezikiel. To this day, she still had no idea how he made the time to work on blacksmithing or goldsmithing and all of the other crafting classes he had tackled, all the while helping everyone and having the chance to even spend some time with her. How did he even get to do these things when he had to save the literal world from destruction? That was a mystery that would remain as such, surely. The spirit of an adventurer, a Warrior of Light, was truly a charming wonder.
With this in mind, she leans over back to him so he can hold her from up close and return to their cuddles. He nuzzles against her neck, biting lightly against it, much like a feline would and the girl recoils yet again. With flushed cheeks, she protests.
“Ah! You did it again!” She seems to pout and Ezikiel laughs.
“We’re alone now, there is no reason for you to keep me from doing it!” He refutes back and the girl glances away, the red of her cheeks only intensifying as she thinks about it.
“Well! I mean, we just finished working and, well–” A groan comes out and she playfully attacks him back, ruffling his hairs and ears to prompt a reaction from him while sitting on his lap. Instead of a silly little battle between the two, what comes out of the Miqo’te is a low, pleased purr and Alisaie melts away yet again.
She stops her playfulness and instead cups the boy’s face, moving close for a slow, but ever so loving kiss. He gives into it, hands wrapping around the girl’s waist to pull her further in, trying to let her know that he doesn’t want this to end yet. For a while, they exchange kiss after kiss before all that is left is their closeness, cuddling over, feeling each other’s presence, laying down in peace.
As they end up resting over their bed eventually, the two dream wide awake in the dead of night. Alisaie can see her ring glint between the darkness as her hand rests upon Ezikiel’s – a promise they would keep.
In their own little corner of this star, the two remained bound together in a fantastical reality – not just a happy ending, but happy everlasting beginnings.

Chapter Text
To say that she was over the moon wouldn’t be an exaggeration. She had basically been floating around, daydreaming about what was to come. The fact that she could feel like this was something she never expected, but she adored the sensation. Preparing for her wedding didn’t feel like a task or chore, more like something she would actually desire to do. In fact, she had already made plans for the day and was on her way to see them through.
“We are getting married and, naturally, you are all invited.” Alisaie starts, having gathered her Scion friends in their base as they used to do. Now that they were separated only by name, they would often try not to gather around at the same spot – yet this was a special occasion. Alisaie herself had called for them all and they knew just for what.
After that declaration of love during the Warrior of Light’s birthday and the ring the boy gave the girl, the group was just waiting for the date in which they’d exchange vows. It seemed the day approached, so the girl was handing out her invitations.
“Ceremony of Eternal Bonding – oh, my heart skips a beat just reading those words!” Tataru all but squealed at the letter. She traced the words with her fingers, the names of her two friends written across paper, inviting her and the rest to partake in their rite. Even though that day was yet to come, she felt her eyes grow watery.
“We need to get you the best of the best in terms of attire. Isn’t that right, Tataru? I say we have a girl’s night.” Krile invites and Tataru nods with excitement. Estinien feels a chill run down his spine, especially seeing the two planning things out, but he, instead, turns his attention to the letter that had been handed to him. It was clear, with the smirk he wore so blatantly, that he was proud of the younger girl.
“Hopefully Alphinaud also follows your footsteps soon, he needs a breather from all the work he involves himself in.” Estinien peeks over from the corner of his eye towards the other twin.
“Hey! I–I’m currently occupied with other things!” Alphinaud refutes, cheeks growing red but Estinien laughs lightheartedly, shaking his head.
“I’m not serious about that, worry not, Alphinaud. Though I am seriously proud of both of you, for everything you’ve accomplished.” He takes the liberty to pet only Alphinaud’s head as he recalled Alisaie hating that from him. Instead, he offers a hand and the girl shakes it with her own, a small smile formed.
“Yes, I am also very proud of you, sister. Not only for finding the love of your life, but for all you’ve done for this star, for our people, for me. ” Words couldn’t describe just how happy, how nervous but excited her brother was for her. Instead, the hug he delivers her is enough to let her know.
“There is going to be ale after the ceremony, right? ‘Tis not a real rite without it.” Thancred says and Urianger groans under his breath. Though maybe, just this once, Thancred was allowed to have his fun.
“Mistress Alisaie, ‘twould be an honor to assist you during your and Ezikiel’s ceremony. Just let me know and I will be ready to provide any succor required.” Urianger speaks, placing a hand on the girl’s shoulder. A smile manifests itself with ease, one that warms her heart. Urianger had been there since the very beginning, she would have him as close as possible during such an important event and he knew it.
“Thank you, Urianger. I couldn’t have done or reached any of this without you.” She speaks and shushes him right before he can refute her words. Though he thinks her capable of this and much more, she knows his support served to keep her strong.
“Urianger has the right of it. Do tell us if you need us for anything and we will provide. As always, you two have my blessings, I will not miss such an important event.” Y’shtola comments and Alisaie turns to her, eyes shining with affection as she nods.
Turning over to her most recent friend, G’raha Tia, she can see his tail swaying in delight, his hands gripping the invitation with such excitement that the paper shook along with him. Eyes watery, he tries to keep himself composed, yet as Alisaie approaches, he cannot.
“Full glad I am to be invited to such a marvelous event!” G’raha Tia says as Alisaie can’t help but giggle.
“What are you saying? Of course you’d be invited! You are a special friend and ally, Raha.” Alisaie replies to which G’raha can’t help but seem so joyful and grateful that he ends up also giving the girl a hug. She reciprocates with a hug of her own that lasts for a bit before she turns back to Tataru and Krile.
“I’d love to go out and get things set with both of you after I am done with the invitations. It might take all day…”
“Of course, do not worry! We will be ready for tomorrow, if it is adequate for you! But, before you go, I need to get your measurements! I have a good idea as to the type of dress that would suit you.” Tataru says with a certain glint in her eyes that dictates she is ready to make magic happen. Alisaie agrees and the two go to the nearby room.
It doesn’t take long for Tataru to get each and every measurement she needed and then some.
“There! You’re free to go, I’ll be working on it right away!” She says and Alisaie shows a rather bashful but thankful expression.
“Thank you, Tataru. I truly appreciate this. Please, make sure to take breaks.”
“Oh, do not worry about me! I love to do this!” She says and Krile soon joins to help her out, whether it was with just company or any aid she required. Alisaie then rushes off to visit her other friends.
Ezikiel arrives almost right after Alisaie disappears from the scene, he comes over with a wide smile written over his face.
“The man of the hour!” Thancred calls and Ezikiel thinks he might’ve heard this before in another place… Even so, it makes him rather happy to hear. He knew Alisaie was handing the invitations, yet he still wanted to visit their friends, make sure everything was in place.
“Is there anything we can provide to you, young Ezikiel?” Urianger asks, hoping they all could help him out with some preparations.
“Well– I wouldn’t want to bother any of you! I just wanted to visit…”
“But, if we can help you out, we would be more than happy to provide.” Estinien comments and G’raha Tia approaches the man.
“Right. For instance, if you need aid with preparing your attire or your hair, we could give you a hand. I have learned much from my days back at The Crystarium and, though I kept myself shrouded, I was taught much and more about hairstyles and their functions.”
“Indeed, we also have an expert on weaving – Tataru – who could tell us where to find the best fabrics for your attire. I can make the voyage, if needed.” Y’shtola offers and Ezikiel, overwhelmed by the way all of them seemed so ready to provide help, couldn't truly say yes or no. Instead, the group took it upon themselves to make it happen, it was almost an immediate, unanimous decision that they would be the ones to help him out.
And, oh, the warm feeling on his heart only increased. Why, just bells ago, he had been interacting with those that had been much like a family to him – the Fortemps Family. The memory comes flooding back as he witnesses his Scion friends work out their tasks.
“Master Ashford! We will inform the Lord right away.” One of the servants said as they saw the red-headed arrive at the door. It didn’t take long for Edmont to appear, his pale face illuminating as he saw the presence of the boy by the door. He gestures for him to enter and take a seat.
“It has been quite a while, has it not? To what do I owe the pleasure?” The man signals the servants to serve them some tea as the boy takes a seat. Nervousness is seeping in, but he stands his ground. These invitations, he wanted to at least give himself. Taking a deep breath, he finally pushed himself to speak.
“Well, you see… I’ll be getting married soon. I wanted you all to be there.” As he says this, a shy expression comes, but a proud one as well as he places over a handful of invitations at the ready for all of House Fortemps.
“Did I hear marriage!?” High-pitched and lively, Emmanellain approaches with his brother, Artoirel, into the room where the two had gathered. Ezikiel’s ears perk up and his tail stands upright at the sudden appearance of the brothers. They peek over the invitations once the father hands them over and, soon, they speak again.
“This is quite the event.” Artoirel comments, eyes still set upon paper.
“And we have an invitation from the groom himself!” Emmanellain follows, grabbing another of the invitations for his page, Honoroit. Surely, the boy would be ecstatic, he thought to himself.
“It would be quite disrespectful not to go.” The two brothers turned over to their father, hoping to hear his verdict. The man only fakes that he tries to ponder upon it, but soon he is smiling again.
“Of course we would be happy to go. After all you did for us, how much you mean to each and every one of the people in here – we wouldn’t want to miss this for anything. If they could, I know the whole city would love to join in.” The man states and the younger brother jumps and cheers as the more reserved one only smiles with eyes closed.
“Thank you, sir. I… wish he could’ve also joined us.” Ezikiel mentions, ears dropping and then jumping back up the moment he realizes what he said, but the man seems not to waver.
“He will join us. He wouldn’t miss such a glorious moment for you. No, he is there with you, he always is. Rest assured, he will be there.” The man confirms, which ends up giving peace to the boy, a warm feeling on his chest.
“While you’re here, you should give us some extra invitations if you can, we’ll deliver them to the Lord Commander and his companions.” Artoirel suggests, Ezikiel listens and hands over a handful of invitations before sharing just a bit of more time drinking the delicious tea he had been served, with great company.
The memories of that moment ring true even now as he makes his way to visit his Monk friend Lyse. Arriving at the camp where she had been settling in, it doesn’t take him long to see a streak of whites and reds that makes his heart skip a beat in the same way it did the first time they met and as it does each and every time they find themselves.
“Alisaie!” He calls and the girl turns over, rushing to him before giving him a kiss and petting his head and ears. His tail twitches in delight as he holds onto her, rocking her from side to side.
“Hey, love! I thought you’d be at the Fortemps!” She mentions, confusion and pleasant surprise present in her tone.
“I was there for a while, I thought I could give you a hand with the spare invitations you gave me, just so you didn’t have to move high and low. But I suppose you were quicker than I expected.”
“Oh, ever the sweetheart! Well, I’ll let you know, as you’ve probably surmised, I’ve handed the invitations here already. Lyse was thrilled to receive them. She says things have been busy, but M’naago assured Lyse would be able to make it, I guess she’ll ensure that she does.” Alisaie confirms and the Miqo’te seems delighted to hear such good news.
“That’s excellent! Then, I suppose we might be done here?” Ezikiel asks and Alisaie nods.
“Yes, now I just have to deliver invitations to Mother and Father… Do you wish to accompany me?” Alisaie asks and Ezikiel’s mismatched eyes light up as they usually would with her.
“Of course, let’s get going!” And with that, the two did not waste time going back to Old Sharlayan.
It was now so usual for them to visit that the servants greeted them almost casually, just as the Masters of the house did. Ameliance hugged the two, a nice feeling rushing to her as she saw them – this could only mean good things, she was sure. She turned to Fourchenault, who wore a serious but more relaxed expression when looking at them now. It was a sign that he did approve of Ezikiel as he had informed a while ago.
“It seems you two want to tell us something, no? Go ahead.” The male Elezen encouraged and Alisaie took her lover’s hand to gain strength between nervousness.
“Ezikiel and I… we will be having our bonding ceremony soon.” She pauses, glancing carefully away.
“And we would love it if both of you were there with us.” Ezikiel finished and Ameliance gasped, she felt a jump in her chest as her eyes reflected a spark that hadn’t been there before. She turned to look at her husband who smiled, seeming just as surprised. They hugged each other before the woman spoke.
“You needn’t doubt that! We would be delighted to witness such an event for our little girl and for you too, Ezikiel. You are part of our family and the day of your ceremony shall be a day the Leveilleur family will always remember fondly. Do not doubt that we will be there.”
With the assurance that the family would gather for this, the two are invited for a little more time to dine and share a bit of their plans for the upcoming day. And, just like that, their evening comes to an end.
The days that follow are busy – what with the two having to prepare their attires and rehearse their respective vows for the fateful day. The excitement only increased with every second that passed by. Yet, there was so much going on that, in what seemed to be the blink of an eye, the day was already there.
Ezikiel and Alisaie arrive at Gridania on different times and in separate mounts, trying to ensure that the two did not see each other beforehand, all for good luck.
The waiting room in which the two are set up is calm and purely white, with a dimly lit light and the sound of water streaming down. The pale illumination coming from the windows mixed with all the other intricate details that surrounded them brought a serene sensation to the two, looking to calm the pair if even a little bit.
Pacing on her long, crimson wedding dress, with a veil that reached the ground with ease, Alisaie tries to canalize the anxiousness that is seeping in. Normally, she’d have Ezikiel to support her and bring her comfort, yet right now she could only encourage herself. It was like old times, yet she wasn’t as used to it as before.
“Everything will be alright. This is a good, beautiful day… My friends, my family, him – all of the people I love are here…” This place was filled to the brim with people that only had good wishes for her and Ezikiel… Surely, they were blessed by The Twelve already. She just needed a moment before she could ring that bell to announce she was ready.
Ezikiel was giddy in his room. He wore a beautiful, dark gown, his hair tucked over. He couldn’t keep his tail from swaying so quickly, his ears twitched so much he tried checking repeatedly if they were messing with his perfectly tucked hair.
“This is it, Ezikiel… This is the moment you’ve been dreaming of. There’s no need to be nervous. There’s no need to be scared. She is waiting for you. Finally, we’ll be able to seal our love for eternity. This is it.” He repeats and it echoes in the room, psyching himself up as he continues to also glance at himself just to make sure everything was in place. One more revision and he thought himself ready to ring the bell.
As if in-synch, the two ring the bell at the same time and the group that had been gathered at the waiting room are invited to sit at the main room.
The witnesses are all in awe with what they see; ribbons of white and blue spreading all over the dimly lit room with comfortable seats waiting for them to settle and an altar that was far too beautiful not to stare at. There, a choir moogle waited patiently as well as a bridesmaid.
It didn’t take long for them to announce, once everyone had settled, that the couple was about to appear. And they do so, descending from a beautiful stage full of flowers and ribbons of rosy, pastel colors. Moogles travel the area with harps and trumpets as friends and family rise from their seats to clap. The couple then stares at each other, love overflowing from the two before their stage floats further onto the center of the room, right towards the altar. Right in front of the altar, the stage stops and they step out, completely in-sync. Golden petals fall from up above – the two can only look at each, a lovely feeling enveloping the two.
“Now that we are all gathered here, it is time for you to exchange your vows! You’ve prepared some, no?” The choir moogle asks and Ezikiel and Alisaie both nod. He allows for her to go first.
Alisaie takes a step in front, where their friends seemed to have gathered; Scions, her family, the people they had saved, those friends she had met only a few times,... there was even a sensation that those who had been lost in the battle were watching over. It encouraged her to speak. With watery eyes does she take a deep breath.
“This has been a long and arduous journey for all of us.” The commotion of cheers dies down. “Never did I expect to find love when I set out on my journey to try and make Eorzea better. I had many dreams, as well as many falls, yet never had I foreseen that I would be able to go through all of that with someone I would learn to adore – someone that was meant to be my significant other.”
As she says these words, she turns over to Ezikiel, who smiles wide, ears perking up. She responds with a gentle smile of her own and, while staring at him, she continues.
“I want to face new adventures with you. I want to live this life we have been granted, from start to end with the person I have loved so dearly. With this vow, I hope to make you the happiest man alive, just as you have made me the luckiest, the happiest, the most fortunate woman. I swear you will never regret having me as your life companion – I will always want to be bonded to you. Here and in our next life.”
As she ends her speech, she tries her best to keep her tears guarded. It’s a happy day, so she does not want to soil it with tears. She can hear the cheers of her brother, followed by the Scions from the back as she returns to her initial position. It was Ezikiel’s turn to read his vows. Just like her, he takes a step to the front, a deep breath. It takes him a little to recuperate himself, but the gentle taps on his shoulders push him forward. He turns to look and no one is there, but he knows just who they all were… With that energy and support holding him on, he speaks.
“I had been alone before. Before all of this, I thought that was my destiny. You changed that.” As he continues this, the group does the same they did before, quiet down to listen in. He can already see some of them wipe tears off. He turns over to glance at the girl of his dreams, just as she did with him. “You saved me from a life of solitude, you along with our dear friends taught me a lot. Yet, you yourself showed me I was capable of love and being loved. That there was someone out there who wanted to listen to me, to care for me so personally, so intricately – someone I could forever lean on and be safe with. This is why I promise to give all the blessings you’ve given me back to you, that I can make you happier with each day that passes. I hope my love will keep you warm, keep you safe, that it will remind you that you’re not alone. Not now, not ever. I am yours, just as you are mine. I swear this, for eternity.”
A roar of applause follows as Ezikiel turns over to bow a little before stepping back to once more look at Alisaie, who has one hand on her chest, her smile wavering as she can’t help but be overwhelmed by the joy and the emotion that laid behind such strong words. They both stare at each other’s eyes and the bell is rung.
Immediately after, two rings appear in front of the choir moogle o and as the couple extend their hands, they exchange their rings, floating them towards their partner’s hands to gently place them over their ring fingers. Once they are there, the two stare at each other, graceful smiles and slow movements accompany them.
Their friends can’t help but cheer at the transaction. And as they both sprout wings for their partner, the crowd is in awe, gasping as they see the two elevate higher before they finally seal their bond with a kiss.
“I’ll gladly pronounce the two of you bonded for eternity, kupo!” The choir moogle ensures before asking for a round of applause, though the crowd was already cheering. Lyse and G’raha Tia almost tackle-hugged the newly-weds the moment they landed safely back at the altar. The rest of the Scions gathered around and said their congratulations to the happy couple. Alisaie’s watery eyes showed gratefulness and Ezikiel’s boundless happiness. Now that they all had the chance to gather, the group made sure to take a picture of the moment and even some of their other acquaintances joined in to throw confetti and cheer for them.
“Congratulations! This is a most joyous occasion! We all swear we will do our best to make the future a bright one, so you can live your days in bliss, just as you have granted us before.” G’raha Tia speaks and Alphinaud follows.
“Sister, congratulations–” he can’t help but choke on his words, trying to hold back tears of happiness. “I am so proud of you, so happy that you’ve come so far. I wish for you, and for my dear friend Ezikiel the best. I will be there, as I have been, to aid you whenever you require it.” He turns over to Ezikiel, then.
“You are part of our family, never doubt to approach us, please. We are here for both of you. Congratulations, my friend. Please, make Alisaie the happiest she can be, and yourself as well.”
Among the crowd, the Scions converse with each other about the happy occasion. Tataru and Krile gush with each other in delight, occasionally stopping the couple to deliver their best wishes over and over.
“The dress came out beautifully, yet Alisaie made it shine all the more! It truly was an excellent match!” Tataru comments right after returning to speak aside with Krile.
“Red suits her well, she matches with her husband, too… This is what the future is all about. Good, happy moments with the people you love.” Krile completes.
“This, I can agree with.” Estinien comments and the girls giggle. “This is what we fight for.”
And as if he were on the same page, Thancred muses a similar thought.
“For those we’ve lost and those we can yet save,” The Hyur repeated those words, his thoughts going to Minfilia and Ryne, he could not wait to tell the girl all about it. Surely both her and Gaia would be thrilled to listen to this. And that only made him feel even more excited and lucky for being able to witness the occasion in person.
“Do not spare any details about this chronicle when you narrate it.” Urianger states, making the man jump in shock. It was as if he had read his mind! Yet, he nods.
“Don’t just stand there, you two!” Lyse calls, pulling them over towards where she had pulled even Y’shtola herself. “This is a celebration yet you’re not joining the dance? I thought you two were better than this.” She laughs, Y’shtola lets out a small chuckle as well, she prefers to listen, to enjoy the moment and capture it in her head. Yet, she and the group inevitably agreed to mingle around the crowd, just as Lyse had encouraged.
So much was the joy they all shared that it was hard to listen to everyone individually. Alisaie and Ezikiel could only cheer and dance with the crowd for a while, smile and nod, share and hug each other before the festivity came to an end. The crowd placed themselves at the edges of the carpet to bid them farewell after all was said and done.
As they strolled down from the altar to the exit, they could hear the claps and the support of all the people they cared for. Yet, all the while, they couldn’t help but glance at each other – to see the other dressed so beautifully both with the blessings of the people they cared about and the love of the other, with their enchanting smiles ready to greet a new dawn, and a promise of an exciting future, bound for eternity. The culmination of all of this brought about a feeling they could not quite pinpoint, but one that they knew was positive, welcomed. Finally, out of the church, Ezikiel helps Alisaie sit on their ceremony chocobo, he does the same with her help and, soon, she leans over his back, wrapping him with her arms, and the chocobo strolls away.
Out they went, directly to the Lavender Beds – their home.
To their surprise, Fourchenault, Ameliance, and Alphinaud were waiting at the entrance already. They all held gifts in their hands.
Dropping off the chocobo at their estate stable, Ezikiel is the first one to greet them and gesture for them to come in. Alisaie follows and they all gather at the living room.
“It’s a beautiful place.” Fourchenault admits and Ameliance follows.
“Yes! You two decorated it marvelously. Gridania is an excellent choice for living, aside from Old Sharlayan, that is.” She giggles.
“Right, speaking of excellent choices… I want to thank you again, Ezikiel, for accepting my sister into your life. She may be a handful sometimes–” Alisaie’s glare makes him stutter, but she soon enough laughs it off and he sighs, continuing. “But she means well, she is… my biggest treasure. Please, keep her safe for me, even when she says she can look after herself just fine.”
“Of course, I’ll protect her with my life, Alphinaud, you have my word.” Ezikiel says before a small sniffle makes everyone turn to Ameliance, she is cleaning her tears away.
“Ah… Do forgive me. I am not sad or anything… I am just so happy for my dear child. We know for a fact that you are a great man, Ezikiel, and we can assure you our girl is a great woman. I know you will be blessed with so much happiness…”
As she chokes again, Fourchenault pulls her close and continues for her.
“What she means to say is that we are proud of both of you. We always dreamed of seeing our children grow and spread their wings and now we even got to see one of them marry. You’ve done great accomplishments already, both of you, Alisaie, Alphinaud. We cannot be any prouder. Congratulations on your marriage, we know our girl is in good hands.”
Alisaie groaned in an attempt to keep herself from growing tearful, trying to seem much more calm than she was. Yet, feeling like this was not enough, she chooses to hug her husband to hide herself a bit, and he hugs her back, gaining the strength to continue the conversation without them both bursting into tears.
“We should start handing them our presents! No need to make the newlyweds cry.” Alphinaud says before he encourages his parents to deliver their gifts, hoping this would also make the couple recuperate. Ezikiel glances over at him and nods, a way of thanking him for that before they all pay close attention to the gift-giving.
The afternoon is spent with the couple opening their presents – an assortment of clothes, jewelry, even books had been handed over to each of them. These, they would treasure forever, both as a memory of this day and the joy they had spread to their family and friends. After the gifts were opened, Ameliance and Fourchenault took the chance to cook a delicious meal for them and they all had a good time until night fell. Giving their good-byes with a big hug to the couple, the three family members leave Gridania.
Alisaie and Ezikiel wave at them and, once they cannot see them anymore, they turn around and smile at each other, leaning in for another kiss.
“Thank you, for all of this. I love you, Ezikiel, my lovely husband.” She says before playfully pinching his ears which causes him to purr – something he had been able to let out in private thanks to her. He then carries her and spins her around their home, leaning over to hug her.
“Thank you instead, for accepting me as I am, for making me truly the happiest I could ever be. I love you, Alisaie, my amazing wife.”
To say that they both were over the moon wouldn’t be an exaggeration.

Chapter Text
Marriage had been a pivotal step in the Warrior of Light’s life, a moment in time that seemed to stop everything for a few days. It was a good time, a small space of bliss the couple would always carry in their hearts. Yet, their responsibilities did not change. Much more so for the Warrior of Light. Aside from being able to spend more time with his lovely wife, things stayed generally the same; he was still an adventurer and a devoted helper of the people. Whenever duty called, Ezikiel would respond.
Bringing peace to the star, preventing the whole universe from getting completely destroyed did not automatically stop every problem around – it was not an end, but a new beginning. The Warrior and his friends learned this after practically giving their lives, only to see that peace was something so intangible and unstable, that a single thing could break it apart again – that the peace of the whole did not fully protect them from the perils that persist around each individual.
Despite this slightly grim reality, both the Scions and Ezikiel himself will not back down, just like they didn't back down before. They know their job is not done – the journey is never-ending. Because of that, they strive for new heights, always in the lookout for anything to do to help.
And, so far, they had been doing that with more grounded tasks like conducting research or helping Garlemald rebuild. Yet, when it comes to the Warrior of Light, those more grounded moments usually do not last long.
In the blink of an eye, Ezikiel found himself in the turmoil of yet another star – The Thirteenth. Once believed to have been a lost cause, a wasteland of voidsent and unending darkness, Ezikiel and a small group of Scions involved themselves in a race to stop a new villain from bringing doom to The Source yet again. Everything happened so fast, the Miqo'te found it a little hard to pinpoint just when he had started to delve into that new world, another adventure of cataclysmic proportions, despite it being a quiet threat. As usual, it was a noble cause to take, and Ezikiel hadn’t thought twice to leap into it and try to right the wrongs he faced along with their new ally and voidsent: Zero. So determined was he to help them out, to stop Golbez and fix the damage dealt, that he forgot a very important action: to let his wife know just where he was going and the fact that he wouldn’t be around for a while.
For Alisaie, it started off as a normal day. She had woken up at their beautiful home in the Lavender Beds, stretching and greeting the rays of the sun with a gentle smile on her face. Turning over, she noticed Ezikiel had already woken up. It was the way it usually went – Ezikiel would waste no time, whether it was to make breakfast or have a stroll around the Lavender Beds, helping out the neighbors with their morning routines. It was heartwarming to think about, Alisaie loved that trait of his, so even thinking about it brought a warm feeling to her heart.
Thinking about this, she got out of bed, she got ready to greet the man. Yet, when she walks out of the room and into the main area of their home, he is nowhere to be seen. Maybe, helping the neighbors had been taking a little longer. She decided she would wait for him a bit more while she drank her coffee and ate the breakfast she prepared after noticing the man had yet to prepare it today. It was a nice change of pace, she loved helping him out, even with small stuff like those.
The hours go by and, soon enough, she starts to wonder. He has yet to come and eat breakfast or greet her… That wasn't normal. She glances at the clock and then back at the prepared plate of breakfast. Soon enough, a nagging need creeps in. So, unable to continue waiting in that lonely house for the man, she decides to investigate, walking out of the house to visit their neighbors. She engages in idle chatter with them before moving onto the question that had been lingering in her head.
“Say, have you seen Ezikiel today?” The question strikes the person as odd.
“Oh, your husband? Not really, no. It was odd to me, actually, I usually see him strolling around right as the sun peeks over. I thought he had slept in.”
“No… He’s not home.” That was truly odd, Alisaie thought to herself. Maybe, an emergency came up and he had to leave quickly. He’d come back soon today, surely. With that in mind, Alisaie returns to their house.
The bells go by as Alisaie tries to distract herself doing menial chores at home. She wanted to be there to greet the man and ask him what had happened. She didn’t want him to come home to an empty house after he probably had tired himself out.
A whole day goes by, and the man is still nowhere to be seen, he doesn’t return home. There are no news about him from the people around, no messages, nothing. Worry increases, quietly but painfully.
“What if… No–no… Surely, he must be caught up in something silly… or maybe even tedious. The hours always go by so quickly when he gets so busy. Surely, it’s just that…” Alisaie tries to reassure herself, but as she continues to do this, her hands rub against each other. It’s alright, she should go to sleep, she thinks to herself. She will wake up to his presence tomorrow and everything will be alright again.
Except, this does not happen…
The next day comes and she is back to square one. Ezikiel is not there again, she searches for him all over and does not find him. She asks the neighbors, who begin to worry, but are unable to give the girl a positive answer. Ezikiel was not here.
So, she moves out of the Lavender Beds into Gridania. She tries to ask some of the people around, she takes an airship from city to city, to no avail. She even checked on Sharlayan, but found nothing. The last place to look was Garlemald, where the girl could confide with her brother. Reaching there, she immediately talks to him about the situation.
“Brother, hey– is Ezikiel around?”
“Huh? No, I thought you two were taking a break together.” Alphinaud answers, head tilting in confusion.
“Yes, we were but… But he’s been gone for two days now and I don’t know where he is at. You don’t think he–”
“There’s no way, Alisaie. He is alright and he will return to you. Just give it time.”
“But! He didn’t say a word, he didn’t leave a letter. What if he somehow got hurt? What if he is–?”
“No, Alisaie. Remember who you are talking about – the Warrior of Light. Ezikiel will not falter, he will not fall. I’m sure there is a reasonable explanation for his disappearance. Just give it some time.” A brief pause comes as he notices the girl's worries still linger.
“Alright, let's do this: if he does not return after tomorrow, we will have a search party formed to find him.” Alphinaud commented. Though he also thought it odd, something told him maybe he was just caught up in some inconvenience. Once that was solved, he’d be back. But, even though Alisaie thought the same, the shadow of worry only increased. Trying to fake it, she nods at her brother and decides to take her leave.
Not only did she spend most of the night awake once she was back home, but after managing to sleep for a bit, she woke up to an empty side of the bed yet again. This time, seeing that empty space felt like a bad omen, instead of a sign that Ezikiel was nearby being the devoted man he was to strangers and friends alike. The night had been dreadful, with the twinkling of stars concerning her, making her uneasy… It spiked a memory, a feeling, a sensation she knew too well but refused to acknowledge. The breeze was cold but familiar, like the winds of the distant edge of the universe. And now, the daylight felt the same, the burning sun a reminder that all stars burn and inevitably dim and give out – even the brightest, selfless ones.
Alisaie walked towards the window, staring at the woods of the Lavender Beds and the mantle of clouds up above, blue hues growing watery but refusing to show any more vulnerability than that. She places hands over her chest, she tries to still her heart, bring back a peace that felt long gone. The comfort he brought her with such ease, she had been missing it for three days now. Why was it so hard for her to get some tranquility back? How did Ezikiel make it feel so easy whenever he was around? Inevitably, she travels to the happiest day of her life – the day in which they bonded for eternity, the joy of that day feeling so distant now, so unattainable.
“He promised… Now and forever, together.” She tried to remind her soul of this. Yet, she was heaving, feeling her chest tighten, the heartbeats grow quicker. There is an uneasiness whenever she stares at the sky, whenever she is reminded of that time in which the stars were meteors, a bird sang of the end, and Ezikiel stood valiantly, climbing up the crystal stairs made of her and her brother’s sacrifice. And, looming in the dynamis-filled air: their love.
“Dammit, Alisaie, keep it together…” Her voice utters with shaky whispers. Already, she feels tears start to stream. It wasn’t fair – the world was never fair. So, she feared that, maybe, Ezikiel’s past sacrifice had come back to take him away for good.
I hope my love will keep you warm, keep you safe, that it will remind you that you’re not alone.
His vow echoes in the distance and she feels her heart sink. Was he gone? Did something go horribly wrong? With eyes set to the skies, she catches a glimpse of a blue bird, making her gasp. Could it be…? The blue bird, arriving and flying back to safety, promising that her loved one was following it back, only for Ezikiel not to arrive at all. Only for her to gaze upon an empty sky, waiting, hoping, wishing, crying.
“Not again,” she begs to the air, to this feeling – to the universe. “Please, don’t take him from me.”
If there was something she had learned, it was that her earnest wishes, her pleas, were stronger than she expected. Maybe, just maybe, she wasn’t too late to ask for his safety. To wish for him to return where he belonged. So, she unites her hands in prayer, lowering her head, eyes closing and causing tears to fall down her cheeks.
“Please, please stay safe. Come back home, Ezikiel. Come back to me, I’m begging you.”
It happened in a second – the sound of the opening door startled her, causing her eyes to open and her body to turn over towards it. Her eyes widened at the realization of what she was seeing. It was her husband… Ezikiel was here, he was back! Granted, he looked tired, ears droopy, tail barely swaying, but with a smile on his face.
“Hey, baby, sorry, I’m la–” The man’s words are interrupted as the girl tackles him into a tight embrace. This doesn’t last long as she backs away, teary-eyed but with a burning anger written across her face.
“Where in the seven hells were you!?” She asks with a voice so loud, he was sure the neighbors probably heard her. His ears perk up, eyes widen, staring back at the face of the woman he loves – she seems deeply hurt which, in turn, hurts him. She bops at his head, causing the boy’s tail to raise in recoil.
“Ow! I– Oh, gods… I forgot to tell you, didn’t I?” Ezikiel asks, placing hands over his head to soothe the small pain out while he mentally scolds himself for his blunder.
“Yes, you did! I’ve been worried sick for you! You didn’t even leave so much as a letter or a message with one of our neighbors, or even my brother! Nothing!” She speaks, starting to pace around the room. She is relieved, that was for sure, but the anger seeping in was still alive, a fire lit so high that she couldn’t keep herself from moving.
“I–I’m so sorry, Alisaie. I was strolling in the morning, as I always do, when I was told by Estinien about a certain situation going on with Vrtra and his sister. I thought I could get things solved quickly, but–”
“I know–I know! One thing led to another and, suddenly, it’s been days.”
“By the gods… I didn’t expect I had taken that long.” He commented, moving close to the girl. She finally stops pacing. His hands place over her shoulders to gently turn her over to him. She lifts her gaze, it has softened up a bit now. What was once anger had reverted to sadness, to a fear she didn’t want to show. “Hey, please forgive me, Alisaie.”
“No, you don’t need to ask for forgiveness… I overreacted.” She says, voice low, blues dodging the mismatched eyes of the other. Yet, his gaze keeps searching for her’s.
“Not at all, Alisaie. I disappeared. If you ever disappeared without a trace, I would also act like this. I would also worry.” Yet, as he pulls her close, he can feel her body trembling and worry only increases for him now. He places a hand over the crown of her head, soothing strands of hair. “Are you alright? What’s in your head?”
“It’s nothing, I just… I was just worried, is all.”
“Yeah, but this feels like much more than just a worry. You know you can talk to me, right? About anything.” As he speaks, her hands wrap against him, she holds onto him tight, slowly but surely feeling the solace of having him safely back home. He was here with her again as he had promised, and that was all that mattered. Her plea had been answered, much like when he went above and beyond the stars. Her fingers quiver, gripping his clothing, her head resting tightly against his chest.
“Damn you… Damn you for making me worry!” She pauses, but that stop is enough to make Ezikiel ponder. That is a familiar phrase to him, for sure. He remembers something very similar being uttered by her before. “Don’t ever scare me like that again…”
“Alisaie…” The Miqo’te whispers, voice soft as he attempts to break the embrace to look at her face, but she doesn’t budge. Her hands remain tight on his back, ear listening to his heartbeat, eyes tightly shut. It was as if she was confirming that the boy was truly here.
He allows for her to remain there for a while longer. They both stay quiet for some time, until she is the one to back away. A hand goes to his cheek, she caresses it with her thumb softly. There were still tears streaming down her face.
“I thought I had lost you. I thought I had been too late to keep you, to have you for longer.”
“I wouldn’t be that reckless, not when I have you waiting on me. I swear, I’ll always return to you, Alisaie.” Those very words he says make him drift onto the memory of waking up to her – not just here in the Lavender Beds, but also after thinking he’d die at the edge of the universe. Right then and there, it clicks.
This is why Alisaie has been crying so much, why she has been so shaky and nervous. That far-away memory had come back with the strength of a thousand storms and she was braving them all by herself.
“I’m sorry I made you worry so much, Alisaie. I won’t do it again… You know? I also missed you a lot.” He says, trying to end on a lighter note. He would not mention the realization, he’d rather help her forget about it again.
“Really…?” She asks, a small smile starting to form.
“Of course! Even the bop and the scolding you gave me made me feel right at home.”
“Ah, right! Sorry, I did that on impulse. It didn’t hurt much, right?”
“Not at all.” Only her tears had hurt him more than anything, but that was something he couldn’t have prevented once he returned – he could only do it from now on. To keep her from crying, from being in pain for so long without him to comfort her.
He feels a soft touch over both of his ears, bringing him back to the moment.
“Don’t look so grim,” she says and the man’s eyes widen. He stares back at her, shocked, flushed cheeks exposing how pleasant the sensation of her hands on his ears was. She lets out a small giggle. “Don’t be so surprised. Your face turned so sour, it almost felt like you had a dark cloud above your head. Are you alright?”
“Yes, I am… I just won’t forgive myself for making you feel so bad.”
“No, don’t say that, Ezikiel. You were out there helping our comrades. I couldn’t be any more prouder… I just want you to promise me that you’ll let me know, next time. I don’t want to spend even a day without knowing if you’re alright.”
“I promise, Alisaie. Maybe, I can take you with me, next time.” He comments, voice and expression growing a little more cheerful than a bit ago. It brings her comfort to see him slowly recuperate. Letting go of his ears, she returns to embracing him, taking the chance to also give some love to his tail. A small purr rings against her ear, causing her to blush and sink her face against his chest.
“I missed you so much, Ezikiel. I missed feeling you, hearing you, being around you. I don’t think I could ever live in a star without you in it.”
“Ah, Alisaie… Are you trying to make me blush? Because it’s working…” He whispers against his own chuckles, holding the girl tightly close to him, burying himself against her shoulder and neck. It was good to be back.
That day, Alisaie did not part from him at all. She remained close to him all day long, making sure he ate something and took his deserved break. Meanwhile, he told her all about his endeavor on The Thirteenth and how he had prevented yet another threat against The Source. Laying back down on their bed, Ezikiel let himself sink against the soft cushion of both the pillow and the sheets. Alisaie followed, laying down by his side and placing a hand over him, holding him down, hoping to keep the conversation up for a bit longer.
“So, you’re telling me you saved our world and another one during that time in which you were gone.”
“Exactly, but… I didn’t do it alone. Y’shtola, Estinien, Vrtra, and even Zero were there to help. In fact, it was Zero who managed to convince Golbez of changing his ways. We owe her one.”
“Right, but you shouldn’t disregard your own actions. If it weren’t for you, Zero wouldn’t have made allies in the first place. So, thank you for that, Ezikiel. Here’s your reward,” the girl said before throwing herself against him and proceeding to kiss both of his ears and then travel to his face. She kissed his cheeks repeatedly, making him laugh as he attempted to do the same. The small battle between them ended up with a soft kiss on the lips, one that grew passionate with boundless affection and love.
“I don’t ever want to let you go,” Alisaie says before delivering another kiss and nuzzling her nose against the boy. He smiles brightly, nodding back at the girl. He places hands on her hair, touching the strands and then rubbing her ear a bit, causing the girl to jolt, a blush forming right after.
“I never want to part from you, Alisaie. Let’s stay together forever.”
“Just as we promised,” she finishes and she proceeds to lay down on top of the boy, holding onto him like she had when he arrived back. She wouldn’t let go, Ezikiel didn’t want her to at all, anyway. He slept best when he felt her warmth, and right now, he needed that warmth more than ever – to reassure himself that, yes, he was actually back.
In the end, he never knew there could be something that could make him happier than marriage – yet, Alisaie proved him wrong time and time again. Being hers and she being his – that was the best thing that could ever happen to the both of them. With this in mind and holding one another as if the world could break at any second, they slept the darkness away, back into the blinding dawn of their love.
Chapter 11: A Befuddled Revelation
Summary:
“Hey–hey, Ezikiel?” Alisaie says, tapping on his shoulder, her head tilting to glance at him. As she had surmised, heterochromic eyes were glossy… Was he sad?
“Y–Yeah?” Ezikiel asks and the girl continues.
“Are you alright? Do you need a minute?” To her questions, he nods and then shakes his head.
Chapter Text
Days of bliss had intertwined with the routine of work and adventuring. It seemed like Ezikiel was, once again, barely having the time to actually relax once he had exchanged vows with Alisaie and returned to his job of adventuring. A little vacation was never unwelcomed, yet he never truly asked for something like that. Instead, he would face things head on and help people whenever possible.
This was common knowledge for anyone and everyone who knew the Warrior of Light. In part, it was the reason why he was always swamped with work – day in and day out. Alisaie would prefer it if he could take a break, but she also knew he probably felt most useful when he was out there helping people out, since so did she.
Yet, she always takes the scarce chances she has to make him relax, especially when it involves their friends.
“Hey-hey, where do you think you’re going?” Alisaie comments as she notices Ezikiel wake up at the break of dawn.
“There were some neighbors who needed some help with construction and other things. I offered to help them today.” Ezikiel comments, ears twitching with joy as he turns over to Alisaie. Instead of a smile, though, she is pouting.
“Don’t you remember we’re spending the day with the Scions?” She says, crossing her arms while she sits on the bed. “Get back in here, you’re going to tire yourself out before we even start celebrating.”
“Isn’t that supposed to be later in the day? I can help the neighbors quickly!” The boy replies and the girl shakes her head.
“I know how things will go down: you’ll suddenly get caught up in one task or the other and you’ll end up forgetting you even had a celebration to get to!”
“I won’t! I promise, I’ll keep it in mind!”
“Why don’t I help them quickly, instead? I know a thing or two about construction, surely I can get my way around it.” After all, she had paid attention to the stuff Ezikiel did on a daily basis, and she had been helping the Garleans with restoration, surely that gave her enough knowledge to help out. Even so, Ezikiel seems unsure, tilting his head from one side to the next in thought.
“But wouldn’t it be better for me to do it? I was the one who offered, after all. They’re expecting me to go help.”
“Well, yeah, but I think they wouldn’t mind if I go there, instead. You need your rest, they’ll understand… It’s supposed to be your free day!” Alisaie refutes, standing up from the bed before walking over to him. She plants a small peck on his lips before cupping his face. “Please, just let me take care of it, for once. If not for me, do it for the Scions. They expect to see you energized and in a festive mood, not tired out!”
Though reluctant, the boy ends up nodding and allowing for the girl to go do the construction job. Despite this, he does end up going with her to make sure she doesn’t need any help and prevent the neighbors from being potentially upset. Alisaie makes sure that Ezikiel doesn’t lift a finger, opting to work as hard as she could and letting him know that she could handle that and more.
The job takes a while. In the blink of an eye, it’s already the afternoon. The couple takes a break back at their house, taking a chance to pick their energies back up before it is time to get ready to greet the Scions. Dressed in regular but pretty clothing, the two wait for their friends by the entrance. The first ones to arrive are, of course, Y’shtola, Urianger and Alphinaud.
“As early as ever, you three!” Alisaie speaks with a cheerful voice as Ezikiel opens the door for them to come in.
“Let me help you all with the bags,” he says, and Urianger follows, taking Y’shtola’s and Alphinaud’s bags as well.
“You two seem well. Here I was expecting Ezikiel would be tired out from a full day of working, as usual.”
“I made sure that didn’t happen.”
“And full glad we must be that you did. It’d be unfortunate that one of the two people we’re celebrating would be too exhausted to have fun with us.” Alphinaud says and Ezikiel’s ears twitch, turning over to them.
“Alisaie volunteered to do some of the jobs I was supposed to do today… I’m surprised she is not tired, it took a lot more time than expected.”
“Well, for one, I had a good night’s rest, plus you were there to give me tips on how to work things out better.” As they laugh, they hear the door open and turn over. It’s Thancred, G’raha Tia, and Estinien.
“The life of the party is here!” Thancred says, causing the others to laugh again, though they do notice he brings much more drinks than any of them had planned or anticipated.
“Of course he’d bring all he can carry.” Alisaie comments under her breath as G’raha Tia places their things over at the table where they were all going to gather. Estinien also places his drinks of preference along with some dried squid on the side.
“Well, why don’t we get this festivity started, my friends?” G’raha Tia asks and the rest cheer.
Immediately after, the celebration begins. Thancred takes the chance to serve drinks, reaching Ezikiel last. He offers the Miqo’te his drink and Ezikiel seems to hesitate. A hand places over his shoulder, once he turns over to see who it belongs to, he meets with Alisaie. She wears a soft smile, nodding as if to let him know he’ll be alright.
True enough, he was here, at home, surrounded by his best friends and his wife… He was safe, there was no risk of being tricked or poisoned, he surmised and, soon, he grabbed the handle of the cup.
It had been a while since he drank alcoholic beverages, so the effects started to work very early on. To top that off, lots of drinks were served at rapid-speed as the group reminisced and shared anecdotes together. It was already turning out to be a fine evening. Alisaie had been chatting and laughing along with the group, sitting close to Ezikiel to make sure he wasn’t feeling uncomfortable, when she started noticing something – Ezikiel was getting very, very drunk… But something else had made her grow worried.
“I’m alright, it’s just…” A sniffle comes over and some of the Scions nearby turn over. The conversations start to lower and they all pay attention, worried that something was going on, much like Ezikiel’s wife. “I really love you guys.”
“Huh?” Alisaie replies and Y’shtola, who is quick to guess just what is happening, places a hand over her mouth to giggle quietly. G’raha Tia’s confusion turns into a smile along with it.
“We knew that already, Ezikiel!” Thancred says as he stands up as if a burst of energy had overtaken him, his voice higher and louder than usual.
“It seems we are not dealing with just one inebriated fellow.” Urianger says, a lighthearted tone to it as he helps Thancred sit back down. Ezikiel’s sniffles continue as Alisaie pats his back.
“It’s alright. No need to cry about that.”
“Yeah, but I want to make sure you all know that. You are all so special to me, but…” Ezikiel turns over to the girl, grabbing her hands and clasping them together. He moves them close to give them a kiss on each knuckle. “I love you the most. I’m sorry to all the others, but I am playing favorites, when it comes to you.”
That was enough to make Alisaie’s face grow intensely red. Alphinaud couldn’t help but let out a laugh that he soon subsided when she glared back at him, embarrassed, flattered, but furious at her twin. He turned to look away, but Ezikiel turned to him.
“Forgive me, Alphinaud, you are great – as are all the other Scions – but there is something about
Alisaie
that no one else in this
star
or any other can replicate.”
“Oh, stop it, Ezikiel!” Alisaie says, her voice soft but clear with embarrassment. Of course, she loved the things he was saying, but it was too much to take with all of their friends gathered there to listen. She pulls him in for a hug, and the boy whimpers a little more.
“See? Even her warmth is amazing…” Ezikiel speaks in sobs before wrapping his arms around the girl and holding tight to her.
The Scions smile to themselves, they knew these two loved each other dearly, and they probably were expecting some public displays of affection. Yet, it was one thing for them to casually kiss or hold hands and another for Ezikiel to drunkenly profess his love again and again. They didn’t mind it, though, this was a sign that he was being able to let loose with them.
“It’s a miracle he decided to drink, even.” Alphinaud comments back to Estinien, who is still staring as Ezikiel remains in the embrace between him and Alisaie.
“I heard something about him having an aversion to drinking, right?”
“Yes, bad experiences. I’m glad we have been able to help him feel comfortable enough tonight. He deserves it… And my sister is definitely happy about it.”
“Are you sure? I saw her glare at you not too long ago.”
“Well, that’s her way of showing affection towards me,... mostly. But, when she sees Ezikiel be more open and joyful, she seems to glow.”
And he was right, though she was holding the other tight and soothing him down, she wore a radiant smile. Her reddened cheeks and glowing eyes were proof of both that boundless love she harbored for him and the happiness that came with knowing that Ezikiel was alright. That he was comfortable with all of them, enough to drink so much that he barely made sense.
“And then, you know? The airship flew away before I could get in.” Ezikiel blabbers.
“Really, Ezikiel? That almost never happens, especially for you.” Alisaie replies, giggling slightly. He had told that story three times already tonight, but the Elezen didn’t mind hearing him speak of it again.
“Yes, but you know what really matters?” Ezikiel asks, out of the blue and Alisaie’s eyes remain set on his. His expression seems to have grown a little serious, which prompts curiosity out of her.
“What is it?” She asks and the boy, once more, grabs one of her hands.
“If you have been proposed to yet. A girl like you surely has many prospects behind her, but… I have a few amazing accomplishments up my sleeve, and I know of great places to take you out on dates. Would you mind giving me a chance to prove myself worthy of you?”
“Ezikiel!” She all but screams, trying to ignore the fact that the Scions are still there, having fun witnessing this side of Ezikiel. “Do you know just who you’re talking to?”
Her question comes and the boy seems to jump back, nodding, eyes wide.
“Of course! I’d be an idiot if I did not! You are Alisaie Leveilleur of the Scions of the Seventh Dawn! A wonderful – and beautiful – Red Mage who has aided the star in countless missions.” His words are slurred, though he seems earnest and eager to continue speaking about her and her endeavors. The admiration in his eyes, the delight in his voice, everyone in the room knew his sentiments were real, though they needed no proof of this.
Alisaie’s eyes widened at his words, at the gestures. Was there any way she could be any more baffled and flattered?
“Oh, you… You always outdo yourself, don’t you?” His wife says in between small laughter. “Even while drunk, you still manage to make me feel the luckiest to have you. You make me feel like I’m special.”
“That’s because–” His voice pauses as a hiccup comes over and he sways on his seat as he attempts to stand. The girl quickly holds him down to make sure he does not fall. “Because– what was it?”
A pause comes, brief as he gasps again and his eyes widen as his ears perk up.
“That’s it! It’s because you are special! You are the greatest thing to happen to any of us! I can assure— ensure? No–no, definitely assure that you’re the best out of all of us.”
“Now you’re just exaggerating!” She replies, but her expression softens. “Yet… I love it nonetheless.”
To his denial, she replies cupping his face against her hands and pulling him close to lock their lips just as she had done in the morning, but she allows it to linger for a while more. Once she parts, she notices his shock, her hand goes to one of his ears, softly nudging it and then the other.
“Do you remember now? I’m yours and I’ll always be yours. Do you remember that, Ezikiel?” Her hands are planted on his shoulders now, giving him some kind of support, her love for him clearly emanating from her every gesture. At this point, she notices just when things click for him. Between his drunken, jumbled thoughts, he finds her again. He recalls their wedding day and their vows.
“I remember… Wow, it’s almost a dream…” Ezikiel comments, words still hard to pronounce. His mismatched eyes start to water again.
“Right? This life we have together, it feels almost like a dream… But it’s much better.”
“You’re right, but the real dream is to be able to have you with me.” Ezikiel comments and the two unite their foreheads together, smiling as they closed their eyes, feeling each other’s warmth.
“Alright–alright, this is cute and all, but you two should get a room. We’re here to celebrate, not get sappy!”
“Thancred, pray, do not embarrass the young ones further.” Urianger almost begs him – or scolds him – in an attempt to keep him from saying anything further. The group laughs at the Hyur’s comment before Y’shtola speaks.
“You know what? He is somewhat right… We should be leaving the two to have some alone time. We’ve intruded for long enough.” Though the group nodded, Ezikiel turned to them, ears dropping.
“No–no! I can keep going! We can play some fun games and have a merry time! I still have lots of energy to spare!”
“And we’ve no doubt about that, but we’ve spent a lot of time here, and we should get ready to rest up and face the upcoming work day. Surely, you understand.” Alphinaud comments as he stands from the seat, swaying just a little bit.
“Need help there, Alphinaud?” Alisaie asks, causing him to blush at the fact that not only she had noticed he was tipsy, but so did Ezikiel, who was holding a little giggle in. Estinien offers to help him walk, a hand on his shoulder to keep him in place.
The rest of the Scions give their thanks to the couple before leaving, some tipsy, some drunk. Soon enough, the noise dies down as they leave the house and only the couple remains.
“That was fun, wasn’t it?” Alisaie asks, trying to make sure the boy had been feeling well all throughout the event. Ezikiel is quick to nod repeatedly before pouting.
“It was! I just wish it would’ve lasted a little longer. I think they thought I couldn’t handle it!” Ezikiel complains, voice slightly childish, which seems way too adorable to the girl.
“Of course not! You’re the Warrior of Light and their dearest friend – they know better than to underestimate you. I know better than that myself… They just wanted for us to rest and have some time for ourselves before the night ends.” Alisaie explains, hoping Ezikiel is able to understand her. He reluctantly nods to her and, though it seems like he’ll keep pouting, soon enough his expression turns into a softened one.
“You’re right… Plus, you and I can have lots of fun by ourselves!” He exclaims, proceeding to grab the girl by the waist. He attempts to spin her over the room, but he can only lift her up and turn her for a bit, which causes her to hold tightly against him. The force makes him try and lower her back down earlier than he had predicted. Yet as he is doing so, he loses balance and ends up causing both of them to grow slightly dizzy against both the small spin and their own already spinning perspectives.
Crash! The two fall against the floor, Alisaie right on top of him and Ezikiel below. A gasp comes out of the girl, blue eyes scanning him frantically.
“By the Twelve, are you alright? Is your head okay?” She is about to step aside, but the boy holds her hand quickly before groaning.
“I’m fine… That just took me by surprise. I didn’t think I’d fall so easily.”
“You’re still drunk, Ezikiel.” She comments, tapping at his forehead. His ears twitch and go back down, tail attempting to sway even though it was squished below the two.
“Me? Drunk? No way!” Though as he opens his eyes to look at the girl, he notices the room has been going round and round for a while, it makes him close his eyes shut. “...Maybe a little.”
“Worry not, Ezikiel. Little or not, I will take care of you, alright?”
“But, aren’t you drunk, too?” He asks, and the girl shakes her head, but soon also seems to doubt herself.
“I’m only a little dizzy, but I can manage! I can take good care of you, regardless!”
“You’ve been doing that all day, haven’t you?” There is a pause for the both of them.
“Yes,... because I love to do so.” She makes sure to let him know, assuming he was going to comment on how he was being a burden to her. He couldn’t be any further from the truth. Scoffing lightly, she leans over to him, lips touching the other’s carefully. The kiss remains for a bit before she leans away and plants her head against the boy’s chest, embracing him. Without thinking, he embraces her right back and, sighing in relief. It seemed that brought peace to him.
For a while, the world stopped again. It was very easy for them to get lost in each other, even while they weren’t completely conscious. The silence was good, the feeling that only they existed in this very moment – unsteadiness and all. Soon, Ezikiel’s laughter appears and it starts to pick up. Alisaie follows suit after a bit of listening in.
“Today was fun, we should do it more often.”
“I was thinking the same thing…” Alisaie responds and then lifts herself up. She notices Ezikiel about to pout yet again, but Alisaie lifts any of his worries. “I was also thinking to, instead, continue this in our room… It’d be much more comfortable to talk there, no?”
“You’re right, my back is killing me against these floorboards.” His hands rise towards the girl and she holds them tight, pushing them up to help him stand. He does this successfully, only wobbling a bit after. Alisaie is quick on her feet, standing right by his side and placing his arm over her shoulders.
“Hold onto me and I will help you up the stairs, okay?” She says and the boy complies. They move in unison up the stairs and into their room. In the blink of an eye, they arrive at their bed, where the girl places Ezikiel with care over soft fabrics. He shuffles to his side, sighing in relief. It doesn’t take long for him to tap on Alisaie’s side.
“Come over… Lay down with me.” His words linger for a while, eyes closed.
“Of course…” She wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. Not now, not ever. She lays down quick, throwing herself against the boy. A hand goes to his tail, soothing it, as was customary of her. It helps the boy relax further, his ears growing droopy, smile widening and softening. He places a lazy hand over her head, ruffling her hair and keeping her close.
“Thanks for today, love.” Ezikiel says and Alisaie feels her heart soar.
“It was my pleasure. We all had lots of fun, I can assure you…” She stops, her eyes meet his own. “I’d be more than happy to give you more moments of tranquility like these. Twelve know you need them, you barely give yourself time to actually unwind. I’m glad you did today.”
A chuckle comes and Ezikiel nods gently, it seemed he was being lulled to sleep with her words. “I’d like that, yes. Thank you, again… I love you.”
“I love you, too, Ezikiel.” She answers, laying her head back down against the other.
Truly, it had been such a sweet and blissful day.
