Chapter Text
Niko doesn't expect there will be a a zombie apocalypse while he was having a nice slumber. It's been a week after the virus break out and most of Niko friends and family already turned into a zombie or not dead. Since Niko has survived without any weapons except for his normal pistol in his pants pocket, he decided to explore this new world with no hope for survival until he met someone who could help him survive.
"Just call me Rin and don't expect me to come and save your ass again lukewarm." The boy say coldly. Then, Rin opens his bag and take out his flashlight, which looks like a small radio, "I'm gonna go ahead first. So I suggest you follow behind me. Don't try anything stupid." Rin says while showing his gun, then walks away from Niko and towards a wall.After he turn around to look at Niko once more, Rin start his walk again towards the left, walking down another hallway that lead to the same direction where Rin came from. Niko hesitate but he end up being curious and follow Rin from behind. Just before reaching the entrance to the long hallway, Rin stops and quickly turns around. When he look at Niko's eyes, there's an annoyed expression on his face, "You should use this." Rin say as he pull out an extra gas mask and give it to Niko. "It can help protect your nose and mouth from zombies. But I doubt if the current one will work when it's full. If it doesn't work, just take it off and discard it. Okay?" Rin said looking at Niko before he nodded and followed Rin quietly.
By the time Niko reached the top floor, he realize that the whole building was dark. Even though the stairs leading to the upper floor are dimly lit, it still looks like every room and door that was at the top floor was covered in darkness which send shivers down Niko's spines as he moved closer to Rin. A moment later, Niko saw a crack in between two heavy doors at the right side of the hall and hesitantly walked closer to see what was inside the door. He realized there were three big crates blocking the door and the dim light from the room." I think I can enter the room through that ventilation...." Niko say as he pointed out the small ventilation.
When Niko opened the door, the only thing he sees inside is pitch black. And in the dark, he could hear something moving. After several seconds, a sound echo through the air. The sound made Niko instantly tighten his grip on Rin shoulder. Without saying anything, Rin open his door back up, so both boys run as fast as they can. By the time they reached the opposite door, Niko didn't feel any more uncomfortable. "Why does this place always gives me a creepy vibe" Niko sigh as he run closely beside Rin. As soon as they reach the other door, Rin opened the door wide open and jumped onto the rooftop before sliding down to the ground. "Thanks" Niko shout as he rush pass Rin and run into the building. He can feel something cold touching his legs and it's was a dead hand and Niko immediately kicked it away.
"Rin!" Niko called out for Rin and immediately grabbed his arms which make Niko feel a little bit safe. "Did you find anything yet?" When Niko asked, Rin showed him the screen on his phone, and they both stare at the photo of an old man sitting in a chair and the dead body sitting on the same chair. There's no blood around the body, but it was clearly noticeable that the old man was dead a long time ago."um... Rin... it's getting dark...." Niko mutters quietly as he tightened his grip on Rin arms feeling a little bit worried about how should they survived the night.
Suddenly, there's a faint sound coming from the window above them. At first, Niko thought the noise was just a rat running around but when the sound comes again, Niko could see shadows passing by outside the window. "Hurry! I think there's a zombie around here....we should look for a place to stay tonight" Niko suggested. While taking care of the undead corpse, Rin had found a long abandoned apartment with some old clothes lying on the floor."But we should search the rooms first before staying there." Rin said while putting away the stuff that was found inside the room. "I agree..." Niko say as he walked around the apartment and luckily there's nothing there which means it's save for them to stay a night there.
"Looks like there's an empty room near the kitchen. I think we should sleep there." Rin said after they checked all the rooms in the building and Niko nod."Good idea." Rin said while he grab some old clothes and handed it to Niko."thanks..." Niko say as he takes the clothes."um...I tried the shower earlier and it's seems that the water is still running so I will take a shower...." Niko say as he walked in the shower. It doesn't take Niko while to change his clothes to the old one, the old clothes was oversized in Niko as it's reach his thighs. Niko walked over to Rin who's top naked since he just take off his shirt that cover with blood and Niko can't help but to stare at Rin masculine body figure before Rin caught him staring. "What?" He asked sternly which make Niko to turn away immediately." N-nothing...." Niko mutters quietly. The silence only making it hard for this two to sleep. Niko then scoop closer to Rin before he asked him curiously."Rin...do you have any siblings?" Niko asked curiously trying to escape the silence."yes.... he's my older brother..." He mutters while his eyes stared outside of the window. "Is he....." Niko mutters quietly before Rin cut him off." No, he's alive...I just knew it....how about you?" He asked changing the topic."well most of them already dead so...." Niko mutters quietly as he turned to looked away."..." They both suddenly stopped talking which make the silence more loud than before. Niko can't help but to feel the freezing atmosphere making his body trembling while unconscious scoop closer to Rin to find warmth. Despite being close to eachother Rin doesn't say anything as his gaze daze towards the night star from outside the window while Niko finding comfort beside Rin and slowly falling asleep on Rin arms like a lost kid looking for comfort. Rin close his eyes hoping that things can get normal so that he can meet his brother again before falling asleep with Niko on his arms.
