Chapter Text

Kara and Lena are spending the entire day at the Tower, tirelessly working to prevent a new threat. But now, they were in desperate need of a break – something to distract them from the tension.

Kara could see just how exhausted Lena is. It shows in her attire – her once impeccably arranged outfit is now creased and rumpled, with the jacket in disarray and the blouse, which has been neatly tucked into her pants that morning, now looking far from pristine. Her makeup has faded, and there are little shadows under her eyes. The once bold lipstick has also worn off, leaving her full lips with a natural pink hue. She looks vulnerable, yet she is still Lena, not the tough persona of Lena Luthor. There is a deep green tint in her eyes. Kara once thought it was the same green as Kryptonite. But then she remembered the untouched, wild nature she had flown over once, far from here. Now, Kara thinks of home when she looks into Lena's eyes – of trust, affection, and beauty. Lena is the embodiment of perfection. Undoubtedly, she is the most beautiful woman in the entire country, a thought that often crosses Kara's mind in moments like these.

"Lena," Kara begins gently in a pleading tone.

"Kara," Lena interrupts, equally gentle but with a hint of sharpness in the way she pronounces the name. There is a subtle warning in her words, delivered in the softest manner.

They are going in circles, both wanting the same thing. They are arguing a lot, but at this moment, they both pause, realizing there is no point in continuing to defend their positions. It doesn’t make sense. They both only want what is the best for the other, sometimes too much.

Lena sighs. "We both need definitely a break Kara. So let's call it a day."

Kara is relieved, Lena thinks the same, at least they  both concur on that point. Lena always works so hard, spending countless hours in front of her computer or tablet. Kara knows this couldn't be healthy in the long run. Lena often rubs her temples, and Kara suspects she has headaches, but she never says anything. Lena needs a break, but she never complains. Sometimes she turns to strong alcohol, sometimes she says she needs an evening to herself. Kara imagines she will secretly continue to work during even then, and she doesn’t like it at all. She wants Lena to rest and worry less.

Lena is exhausted, and that's why Kara has an idea. She wants to go on a trip with Lena for a few days. They would relax by the pool. Lena would lounge in the shade, reading while Kara is doing laps in the pool. They would enjoy delicious meals, sit outdoors by candlelight, accompanied by the chirping of crickets in the background. Kara can already see it all and is eager to share this little secret thought with Lena. Once they've dealt with the latest threat, she'll ask Lena if she'd like to go on vacation with her. They both have earned it.

It seamed like they might finally get some peace, as the past few weeks have been exhausting. Once again they had saved the world. Alex and Kelly have gone on vacation with Esme, which is why Kara even had the idea to follow suit, but fate has other plans. An influential man has escaped from prison. Lena has uncovered his dark machinations. Kara has written an article about it, and Supergirl has locked him up. Now, he harbors thoughts of revenge, and to make matters worse, he has hired an alien with powers similar strong to Supergirl's. This duo has been causing them sleepless nights for days. Kara hopes they will soon bring them down.

Lena sighs. Kara looks so tired, and Lena always worries about her. They've been in the Tower for hours, debating. They can't seem to find common ground. Kara can be so stubborn, always setting herself at risk, which infuriates Lena, but it's not anger, not anymore. She isn't the old Lena anymore. Kara has softened her. With her warmth, her gentleness, and her unwavering faith in Lena, Kara has won her heart. Kara often calls her "Softie." Lena would never admit it, but Kara is right. She's soft, but only for Kara.

Lena starts packing her things. "I'm heading home now," she announces.

"I'll take you," Kara replies.

"Kara, I can also go home alone."

"Lena, I don't want you to be alone, especially with that duo out there. It's dangerous. We don't know what they might do next."

Here they go again. Kara worrying about Lena, and Lena worrying about Kara. But Lena needs this evening alone more urgently than anything else.

"Thanks to you, I have the best security system in the world, and you're tired too, Kara. You should go home and rest," Lena decides as she finishes packing. She tucks the tablet into her bag, then she has everything.

"I'm not tired. I'll take you," Kara insists.

Lena briefly closes her eyes. This can't go on like this. They're both too concerned for each other; that's why they argue, even wanting the same. But today, Lena will stand her ground. Today, she needs something specific.

"You look exhausted, Kara," Lena says gently. "And I need..." Lena stops herself. She can't tell Kara what she needs. They talk about many things, but not everything.

"What do you need?"

Kara stands behind her as Lena hangs the bag over her shoulder. Lena can't avoid Kara, but she also can't say exactly what she truly needs. Lena bites her lip, then turns around.

"I need an evening to myself."

Kara looks hurt. It should be ridiculous, Lena thinks. They're both adults, they're not a couple. So why are they acting this way, and why can Lena empathize with why Kara is hurt that she wants to be alone? It would be the same for her if it were the other way around – just ridiculous.

Kara remains silent for a while, and Lena waits patiently.

"Lena, I don't want you to be alone. Boldt is on the loose, the alien is in the city, we don't know where he's hiding. I'm worried. Can't I come with you? I'd feel better if I were with you. I... I can stay in the guest room, you won't even notice I'm there. You can do whatever you usually do when you're alone. I promise I won't bother you."

Kara's eyes plead, and as always, it's difficult for Lena to deny her request. She doesn't want to hurt Kara further. But she can't possibly take Kara with her for what she has in mind. Lena has to tell her the truth, even if it's delicate. But will Kara understand? Alex would understand, Nia would understand. Right? So, okay then, the truth it is.

"Kara, it won't work. I need an evening to myself. I need sex. Otherwise, I'll go insane, do you understand?"

Lena has no idea if Kara understands her. Does Kara need sex? They've never talked about it. Kara hasn't been in a relationship for a long time, and Lena doesn't know how she handles it. Does she masturbate? Even the thought is so delicate. Lena can hardly look at Kara when thinking about it.

Since she met Kara, Lena has practically had no sex. There was James briefly, then a few nights when she went out alone. But that's a long time ago. Their friendship takes up so much of her time, which Lena enjoys immensely. They spend most evenings together, eating, watching movies, playing board games, or just being together. Kara gives her everything she needs, so when would Lena have time for sex? Lena misses sex. She's not the type who needs it excessively, but none at all? No, she can't imagine that. Moreover, it serves as a release for Lena. It helps her cope with stress, and on a day like today, she needs it more than ever.

Now that it's out in the open, it's going to be awkward between them, Lena suspects. Their eyes meet, and they both stare at each other. Kara's face turns beet red. Lena ponders what might be going through her mind. Isn't it strange that they know each other so well, are so familiar, but have never talked about this? It shouldn't be awkward between them.

"Have you... have you met someone?" Kara stammers.

Lena sighs. "No, Kara. It's just about sex. I haven't met anyone. That's why I'm going to a bar, see someone I like, someone who's there for the same reasons as me. That's how it goes."

Kara blushes even more. She turns around and looks in the opposite direction, away from Lena. Perhaps Lena has broken her with that comment. Kara has always been so innocent; Lena wouldn't be surprised if she had never had sex in her life. Lena can't decipher what's going on inside Kara, and she waits patiently. Kara clenches her fists, and the whiteness of her knuckles becomes apparent.

"Kara? Is everything okay?" Lena asks, concerned.

Nothing is okay. Kara feels a mix of emotions inside her, and they don't feel good.

Kara's temperature rises, and she feels a wild, hot sensation rising within her, similar to when she's about to activate her heat vision. It's powerful and intense. Just the thought of someone else touching her Lena makes Kara tremble.

Lena needs sex. Why didn't Kara know that?

"Kara, let's drop the subject, it seems clearly uncomfortable for you. But please understand that I need it tonight. You don't have to worry, and remember the watch you gave me. If I'm in danger, I'll press the button, and you'll be with me in seconds."

Lena tries to handle the situation calmly. She speaks softly, trying to make Kara feel better. Slowly, Kara turns to face her, and she was right. Lena looks unsure, and she shouldn't. Perhaps she regrets saying it, but she shouldn't. They are best friends; it shouldn't be shameful to talk about sex.

And Kara is not ashamed; it just caught her off guard. She enjoys having Lena in her life, spending so much time with her. She never even considered that Lena might be missing something. But now it's suddenly apparent, and the thought of Lena and this unfulfilled need is as powerful. It feels like Kara had been in some kind of deep sleep on this topic for the past few years and Kara is waking up now. It awakens something else in her too.

"Would you feel better if you,.. you know.. if you need it, you would feel better afterwards?" Kara wants to make sure and clarify what Lena needs.

Lena doesn't understand why Kara won't let it go. "Yes, I would feel better," she says instead, hoping Kara will let it drop now. It's starting to get embarrassing for Lena too.

"Would you...," Kara starts, then breaks off, nervously licking her lips, and starts again, "would you mind sleeping with a woman?"

Their eyes meet quickly. Tension suddenly fills the air, and something shifts between them. Lena's eyes focus on Kara, and her heart beats so fast she's sure Kara can hear it.

"Yes, I sleep with women too," Lena replies calmly, although she's not. In this moment, her desire is rising on its own. She wants it; she wants a woman, and she can see it, while she’s looking at Kara.

Kara is meeting her gaze. She seemed nervous just a moment ago, but something has changed. She comes closer to Lena with confidence. She's wearing her Supergirl suit, which no longer makes a difference to Lena. Kara is Kara when she's near, even when she's wearing the suit. But at this moment, Lena is reminded of Supergirl. Back when she didn't know who was under the suit. When Lena had a tiny hero crush. Yes, she did. In her defense, Supergirl is hot and she was  mysterious, a little bit arrogant, yet friendly, incredibly good looking – a very attractive, sexy combination.

Kara's hand brushes Lena's face, her fingers gently tracing over Lena's cheek. The touch is something else, too sweet, too tender, pulling Lena back from her train of thought. Surprised, Lena gazes into deep blue eyes.

"Then let me help you. You don't have to go to a bar and pick a stranger. Choose me." Kara says so softly, matching the gentleness of her touch.

Lena hears the words, understands the words, but still refuses to comprehend the meaning.

Her jaw drops. "What?"

"Lena, I don't want a stranger to touch you.“

Lena feels heat rising within her. The words are spoken urgently and possessively. Coming from Supergirl, this fact suddenly sends a surge of exciting and unfamiliar sensations into Lena's stomach.

Lena finds her voice again, even though she's not sure where it's leading her.

"Are you jealous, Supergirl?"

Lena hasn’t called her Supergirl in years, but it slips easily from her lips in this moment. Lena creates some distance and ventures into unknown waters.

They're both sailing in those waters, and there's no turning back.

Kara sets the sail. "Yes," she replies easily.

Is that some sort of game? It‘ doesn’t feel like it. Is it happening because they suddenly talked about sex? Or is it the attraction they've felt from the beginning but chose the path of friendship?

Lena can't come up with an answer and then her mind goes blank.

Kara kisses her.

At the same time Kara comes to life. Her eyes are open and wide. She can suddenly see Lena clearly. The thought of someone else with Lena has opened her eyes. Kara wants to be the one. She wants to try everything with Lena, including sex. She gets excited and she won't waste any more time, not another second.

Kara kisses Lena.

And Lena kisses back.

A sensation akin to flying, a caress of soft, warm moisture. Goosebumps rising and a fluttering in her belly – more, a craving of more. Kara feels it all. She kisses Lena and from the very first second, she's hooked. After a few more seconds, she becomes bold and eager. Their lips meet, touch over and over again and move together. Lena returns the kiss as eager. They hold each other tightly, getting closer than ever before. Kara tastes Lena's mouth, her tongues entwining in a passionate dance. Kara is sucking her tongue into her own mouth. How has she not known this before? The kiss shifts between gentle and exploratory, between fervor and desire, a rhythm with a rapid melody that only they can play. Kara is wide awake, feeling like everything is finally falling into place.

As their breath slowly runs out, they both pause.

"Wow," Lena says, surprised. Her thoughts whirl between: "Oh my God, what was that? " to: "can they please do it again? " to: "damn, what's going to happen now? "

Kara laughs. She’s still holding Lena in her arms, and she laughs like she is happy and relieved at the same time. The most beautiful sound, Lena has ever heard. Lena automatically joins in.

At that moment, they look at each other, sobering up.

"Lena," Kara begins softly but doesn't continue.

"Kara," Lena replies as soft.

The trust and affection are in their words, as always. Kara kisses Lena on the tip of her nose. It's so sweet, and then she places her hands on Lena's hips in a bold move.

"Now, if you're agree with me on this, I’ll take you home," Kara offers. It sounds like she's saying, "I told you so."

And Lena understands it for what it is—an offer. Lena can feel it in her own body, how she responds to Kara. It's going to happen.

"Very gladly," she says elegantly, and she's already in Kara's arms.

"May I?" Kara has already placed her hand on Lena's back, and Lena knows what's about to happen. Kara is going to carry her bridal-style.

Lena places her hand around Kara's neck and nods.

Kara lifts her slightly, and even though Lena knew what was going to happen, she can't help but make a squeaky sound.

Kara grins, looking way to pleased with herself, and Lena is tempted to wipe that ridiculous arrogance off Kara's face or at least find a way to get back at her.

"Do you even know how to sleep with a woman?" , she asks playfully, rising an eyebrow.

Kara forgets for half a second that she's flying. Lena always manages to throw her off balance. The thought of sleeping with Lena does something wild to her.

"I'll figure it out, Lena. I'll find out what you like, where I need to touch you and make you feel good. And I'll do it as many times as it takes until you fall asleep exhausted. And tomorrow, we'll sleep in," she declares with satisfaction and a longing smile.

Lena has nothing to add. This time, they both agree, and there's no more discussion. But there is a eager kiss above the clouds.

Chapter Text

Today is the day everything changes between them. The friendship between Kara and Lena will never be the same again. It has already begun.

Now is not the time for friendship.

Together, they fly through the night of National City. Kara cradles Lena gently and securely in her arms as they hover. Lena feels this new intimacy between them as Kara presses her gently against her muscular body. Lena rests her face against her neck to deepen their closeness even more. This sensation, combined with weightlessness, makes Lena dizzy, and her heart beats faster.

Lena can count on one hand the number of times she has flown through the skies in Supergirl's arms. Each previous occasion was marked by life-threatening situations – Supergirl saved her, and Lena clung to her as if her life depended on it. They never flew just for fun, simply because Kara could. Kara never showcased her powers in front of Lena unless it was in those life-threatening situations, of which there were unfortunately quite a few. Even in those moments, Kara never used her powers to show off; it was always to help Lena, whether it was to save her or to warm up her coffee that had gone cold from working. That was all.

On this fine day, everything is different. Kara has never kissed Lena before, at least not on the lips and not like this. What happened earlier in the tower – Lena can hardly calm her racing thoughts to make sense of a logical explanation. A conversation about sex led to a kiss that swept the ground from beneath her feet?

Suddenly, everything is different—and now they are on the path to completely destroy their friendship.

Perhaps logic is not the measure of things here. Love operates differently; it can't be explained. One person falls in love with a jerk, another with their best friend. It's not something one can control, predict, or change. That's why it terrifies Lena.

Um, had she just used the L-word? Twice?

Is it?

Love?

Is it?

Yes. It is love. Even if it hides behind friendship.

It began so many years ago when Kara walked into her office with Clark. They flirted, Lena certainly did, as much as was appropriate in that situation at that time. Maybe it would have gone different if Clark hadn't been there, perhaps she would have asked for Kara's number right away, for a date. But things unfolded differently, and Lena was content with it; she needed a friend in National City desperately. But that attraction she felt from the beginning never disappeared.

"Lena, I can hear your thoughts racing. We're almost there; then you'll have solid ground beneath your feet again," Kara announces. She looks confident, flying with concentration, knowing her destination. A small smile lingers on her lips. She is happy.

She looks beautiful, but how can Kara stay so cool? Is she not a bit nervous? In that moment, Kara glances down, her eyes meeting Lena’s. A charged silence hangs between them before Kara leans in, capturing Lena's lips in a kiss. Lena's thoughts dissolve into the sweet oblivion of that kiss.

"Is it okay when I carry you to my apartment?" Kara asks softly. Lena doesn't care, she can only nod.

Kara escorts her to Kara's apartment and gently helps her stand on her own feet. Lena buckles, and Kara supports her until she regains a steady stance.

Kara smirks, "Am I making you weak in the knees?"

How dare she?

"More like gravity suddenly striking," Lena replies casually, though her voice quivers slightly.

It is a little awkward between them, Kara has to admit. Lena hides it well, but Kara watches her, knowing her. It’st not in a bad way. It’s more like her powers have been freshly scripted, as if somebody has rewriting their fate. Kara can't quite describe the sensation, but it feels good.

"Would you like something to drink?" Kara asks, hopping it will ease the tension.

"No, thank you, although a sip of wine might be good. Or wait, I'll take water instead, right?“

Okay, Lena may be a little too tense. They should talk, Kara thinks. Talking is a good thing, they can totally do this. Kara goes into the kitchen and pours two glasses of red wine. Lena gratefully takes one.

"Lets sit down for a bit,“ Kara offers, sitting onto the couch.

Lena follows her, eagerly sipping her wine. A moment passes, and then Lena sighs.

"How can you be so cool about this, Kara? Do you even think about what we are about to do? Or have you changed your mind?"

Kara stares at her long-time friend. Lena, with her captivating beauty, unwavering mental strength, gentle demeanor, a hint of arrogance, and profound loveliness. Yet, despite all these qualities, Lena is still unsure about them. In contrast, Kara suddenly comprehends everything, eager to lay bare her thoughts. She is determined to explain it to Lena

„Lena you are here with me, it is like always and-“

"Nothing is like always. Everything could change." Lena interrupts, sounding concerned. She takes another sip of her wine, before she continues."Kara, I'm just overthinking, you know how much of a rational thinker I am. I'm just afraid of losing you; you're the most important person in my life. And even though I love kissing you, and it turns me on how you carry me through the skies, revealing this new side of you, I don't want to lose you."

Kara can understand Lena's thoughts and concerns, but it will never come to that. Kara knows it deep in her heart; she just has to make Lena see it. Everything has changed.

"Lena, our hearts beating in the same rhythm, they always have. I can hear your heartbeat, you know."

Lena's eyes widen, and Kara holds her full attention now.

"It has always comforted me. When we're together, it's always like a beautiful melody playing in the background, accentuating everything. It gave me comfort made me feel loved. And do you remember the time when everything changed, when you were so angry with me after I revealed myself? That was the only time our hearts didn't beat in the same rhythm. Yours beat much faster, more frantic, and I couldn't keep up. It worried and hurt me so much. But when you stood at my door, so small, tormented by guilt, your heart beat again in the same rhythm as mine. I knew we were reunited and on the same side. I felt whole again."

Lena shakes her head a little, amazed. "Wow, Kara, that's truly profound." Lena says, her eyes a beautiful shade of green with a hint of blue.

"Yes. And do you know how it feels now, Lena?"

"No. Tell me."

"Our hearts beating a bit faster, but not hurried. A new rhythm that feels beautiful and exciting. But the important part is, our hearts beat together in the same rhythm. Do you understand what that means?"

"That we're meant for each other?"

"Yes. We belong together in every way. There is no other person who can hold that place. You are my heart, Lena."

After that, Lena doesn’t hold back anymore. She wants Kara and Kara wants her. They belong together.

They kiss. This time their kiss will bring them to something new. Before they deepen the kiss, Kara stands up and takes Lena’s small hand in hers, guiding her silently to her bedroom. Lena holds Kara’s strong hand, following her.

Kara didn't lie when she said she has never slept with a woman, but she will figure it out. Lena gives her subtle instructions that she understands without words. Lena thinks, Kara probably hears her heartbeat and it is speaking to her.

Kara leaves no part of her naked body untouched. She is marking Lena’s skin, making everything her territory. It’s sexy, beautiful and Lena is now moaning with abandon, no longer holding back how much pleasure Kara is giving her and it only spurs Kara on even more. Kara is above her, she must be floating a little. Lena can feel her body but it’s not heavy. They rub their most intimate parts together, holding hands and look into each other’s eyes. It is so intimate, it is something else, these feeling. No one is shying away anymore. The air between them has shifted, is filled with this erotic intimacy. Lena lets herself be looked at, she doesn’t close her eyes, doesn’t turn away. It’s the most intimate experience ever.

They are side by side in the bed, recovering. „Tell me again what turns you on about me?“ Kara says after a while, mischievously.

„If you act heroic.“ Lena retorts.

“Yeah? I thought you didn’t like my God complex.“

„Okay I’ll admit, you can act like that, only when it leads us to sex.“ Lena turns her head, showing Kara her most impressive raised eyebrow.

“That can be arranged.“

And Lena discovers a whole new side of Kara.

But Lena also does this new things. For example she touches Kara like she always wanted. Squeezes her muscles, kisses her neck and that leads her down, down and down her body.

Lena feels proud, unraveling Kara. She shows Kara a few positions and Kara’s eyes bug out. She has never been pushed into bed and taken from behind before, but she enjoys as much, and Lena revels the power. It arouses her, to have the strongest woman in the world begging beneath her.

Their power play switches; they both take charge, alternating roles, while their heartbeats syncing in harmony.

They discover all this new things and they kiss gently and extensively again from time to time.

“Our friendship is in pieces,“ Lena says after coming hard. Kara just fund out how to lick Lena and trust at this sweet spot inside her at the same time.

„No time for friendship,“ Kara says between her legs, it seems she is not done with Lena, yet. “Mmh, why did we hold onto it for that long when this--?“ , Kara slurs and then stops speaking, starting a new rhythm more slowly building Lena up.

“It was a slow burn,“ Lena deadpans.

„A very long slow burn,“ Kara ads.

“Still a slow burn.“

“Okay that is what I’m telling Alex and the others.“ Kara decides.

Lena wont‘ think about them, not now. It feels so good what Kara is doing and she can feel building a new one.

“It was slow but now, I’m burned and I’m coming,“ Lena informs between heavy breathes and Lena comes, powerful like never in her life. “I love you,“ Lena yells.

She falls back onto the mattress, feeling the weight, but suddenly realizing something, and opens her eyes. Crap. "Is it too early to say that?" she asks, still catching her breath.

“No. I love you too,“ Kara simple answers.

„Kara, I know it was the magic of the moment, but I meant those words. Really.“

„And I really really love you,“ Kara holds her gaze, taking her hand, „Lena, we are on the same page.“

Kara kisses Lena.

The kiss is something. Sweet and tender with the mix of the taste of sex.

Kara was her best friend but now Kara is the best lover she ever had. And also Kara is the first person she made love with. Kara is the love of her life. Simple.

“For something that was a slow burn, we have pretty much caught up.“ Lena says.

“Should we repeat it?“, Kara asks.

“The slow burn? No. The sex? Definitely a yes.“ Lena answers.

“Okay buckle up Lena. I always wanted to show off my powers with you.“

Lena was her best friend, but now she is her lover. They hearts have always known. They were meant to come to this point, maybe slowly, but not to late.
