Work Text:

Libby closed the door to the bunker just as she led her best friend Molly inside. It was the first time she had shown Molly her zombie proof bunker since the whole climate change incident. She wanted to show Molly all her cool apocalypse gear while the two were alone. Moving to the far self Libby pointed to her makeshift crossbow and handed it to Molly.

“This here is for if the zombies ever manage to penetrate my defenses. Of course they never would, but when it comes to the end of the world you can never be too prepared.”

Molly looked for the mechanical wonder, examining Libby’s craftsman ship. She studied where Libby had taped the handle to the wood and the string to a pull system.

“WOW! Libby, you really got it made here.” Molly said as she pointed the crossbow at her own face before Libby quickly grabbed it away from Molly before she could shoot her eye out.

“That’s a little advanced for you Molly, you’re probably better off with the Derf gun. Not that I don’t believe in your shooting skills.” Libby reassured.

“You’re probably right Libby.” Molly moved to the food area of the bunker and scanned the food preserves Libby had. Ham In A Can, Chickpeas, Syrup. Not very luxury but everything one might need while trapped in a basement.

“Do you wanna try some?” Libby asked. “It’s best to get used to the unique flavor palette of the end times before it happens.”

Molly looked over the food again. It didn’t look BAD, but it definitely wasn’t a five star meal. Nevertheless Molly wanted to show interest in Libby’s interests and she agreed to have some of the makeshift, apocalypse cuisine.

Opening the Ham and Chickpeas, Libby slathered the latter on the former. Then for good measure she opened some syrup and poured that on top. It was her masterpiece.

“Here ya go Molly!” Libby said bring her creation to her best friend's face. “I may have gone a little overboard but I think eating this will REALLY get you accustomed to bunker living. Libby’s smile was beaming and bright while Molly’s face read of dread, a scared, crooked smile on her face as she eye’d up the monster in front of her.

“Oh. Wow. Libby. This looks. Wow.” Molly turned her head away for a quick moment so as to not gag. A smell wafting off the food that told Molly maybe the bunker food didn’t keep for as long as Libby might have thought it did.  As much as Molly didn’t want to eat it, the sincere look on Libby’s face told her he had to. Molly slowly took a bit of the expired concoction. In her mind she wished Scratch was there to lead her to the Ghost World because she would most certainly not survive this ordeal.

As soon as Molly’s tongue touched the food her nose recoiled, her mouth became dry, her throat locked up and her eyes went dark. Next thing she knew she was on Libby’s bunker bed with the taste of something rancid on her tongue and a weird feeling like her belly was empty.

“OMG MOLLY!” Libby yelled as her friend opened her eyes.

“What? Scratch? Did I die?” Molly said, still delirious. Libby pulled the blanket that was housing them closer, making sure not to touch the spikes as she did.

“No,no. You just just vomited on the floor. Looking at those cans I guuuessss they maybe we're a couple months expired.” Libby shyly. “Sorry,Molly, I should have checked.”

“Awww, It’s okay Libby. I mean that was very gross but it was fun in a weird kinda way. I’m just glad you shared this with me. I must say it does seem perfect for an apocalyptic future. Though I hope that never happens.’ Molly gave Libby a sweet smile and rubbed the girl's cheek.

“Thanks, Molly. I appreciate you taking an interest in my weird little things.” Libby gave a soft smile right back to Molly. Her cheeks became red as she noticed how close she and Molly were wrapped in the blanket. Molly also noticed their closeness and scooted even closer to her friend. Taking a look at the other girl's lips. She thought about how they probably taste better than the poison she just ingested. Slowly Molly moved Libby’s face closer to hers, lost in trance made by the touching moment they shared. As she was about to connect their lips though,Molly saw something from the corner of her eye. It was gray and brown and sorta green. Molly hauled.

“Libby.”

“Yes,Molly.” Libby said lips pursed for the inevitable kiss.

“Did you clean up the vomit?”

“Well no. I didn’t really have time  between pulling you to the bed and making sure you were alright.”

Molly’s eye’s beamed at the mess on the floor now knowing that it was. Her face lost all color and her eye’s rolled a few inches back in her sockets.

“Molly?” Libby asked, noticing the two still weren’t kissing.

But it was too late, it was like slow motion as Libby witnessed her friend’s mouth open and felt her own sweater be covered in her homemade apocalypse dinner.
