The Knight and the Blacksmith

Summary:

Ochako Uraraka is a Blacksmith. That means she fixes things. Usually weapons or tools, but this time in particular, it just so happens to be her green haired Knight best friend, having just gotten off the worst day of his life.

Or…

A Fantasy Hurt/Comfort IzuOcha Fic I made for the IzuOcha Discord’s Anniversary.

Work Text:

Golden sparks danced as Ochako smashed her hammer of choice into the soon-to-be sword. Money had been spread thin recently, which meant she had taken to forging tools to those who requested more often than she usually had.

Of course this came at a price. Spending more time forging and crafting varieties of weaponry meant spending less time training. To make matters worse, less training meant spending less time with Izuku, her absolutely and purely platonic friend, whom she most definitely felt no romantic feelings for.

That same best friend who she couldn’t help but peak side glances at while she developed her latest masterpiece. That same best friend who made any and all of her masterpieces look like mere child’s play in comparison.

She had just gotten home from a long day of training, as per usual with UA Academy. After all, one shouldn’t expect any less from the King’s most elite Royal Guard Academy. That didn’t mean every day spent at UA was hell, especially with friends like Izuku.

After attending their latest session, Izuku had opted to go home as originally intended. Though that quickly changed as Katsuki went just a tad bit too far in their mock training together, resulting in Izuku’s emerald colored armor being badly damaged.

Izuku was no stranger to injuries, both to himself and to his armor. After all, his Strength Enhancing Magic had a tendency to leave him with entire broken limbs after a hard fought battle. But it was for that reasons that Ochako lo… liked him. It was his drive to keep moving forward, even after receiving the most awful of punishments.

Ochako had personally helped design his armor (Partially so she could make sure Izuku wouldn’t spend as much time with fellow Blacksmith, Hatsume Mei), so it made the most logical sense for him to come to her shop so she could repair his armor.

Even after doing so, Izuku kept around. Maybe it was to keep company, or maybe it was so he could provide a bit of help around the shop. It was the least he could do after Ochako made his armor good as new. Speak of the devil, he had just walked by when Ochako was hammering her customer’s chosen sword.

“You sure you don’t need anything else? It doesn’t matter if it’s big or small, just say it.” Izuku said.

Ochako chuckled. Even when she was doing something that Izuku didn’t have a clue on how to help, her green haired friend always wished to find a way to do so.

“I told you I’m alright right now Deku. I really appreciate your help, but you have a tendency to go a little overboard at times.” Ochako said.

Izuku smiled, wanting to be just a little cheeky in the moment.

“Alright then, guess I’ll be heading out. Thanks for the help Uraraka!” Izuku said as he fake walked to the door.

“H-Hey! You can’t go now!” Ochako cried out.

“What’s wrong? I thought you said you were okay?” Izuku sassed.

Ochako gave him a pouting look, prompting Izuku to give a small giggle, prompting Ochako to pout harder, prompting Izuku to giggle harder. Ochako wasn’t going to let his pass of sass go one-sided.

“I may have fixed your armor Deku, but I can break it just as easily.” Ochako glared with a smirk.

Before Izuku could reply, he heard frantic footsteps grow louder and louder as someone shoved the door to Ochako’s store. Izuku turned around, recognizing the person as someone who had attended Ochako’s store earlier this week.

“Hey Konoa What’s got you in such a hurry?” Izuku asked.

“B-Bandits! T-They’re trying to break into a house next to mine! I-I used Light Magic to shoot a b-beam so you could see it from a distance!” Konoa said.

Ochako gasped, pausing her craft to look at her former customer.

“Bandits?!” Ochako shouted.

“That’s all I need to hear. Stay here Konoa, I’ll have this handled as soon as possible.” Izuku said, switching from his dorky self to his heroic persona.

But before he could enter the shop, he was grabbed by Ochako.

“I’m coming with you. You’re going to need all the help you can get.” Ochako said.

Izuku nodded before leaving the building. Ochako awkwardly looked at her current customer, who had been watching the whole ordeal happen.

“Errr… you don’t mind if I go solve this real quick? I’ll charge you less?” Ochako said, silently hoping her customer wouldn’t mind that she had just detoured when she was nearly finished with his weapon.

“Of course not, go!” The customer said, pointing to the door.

Ochako nodded before grabbing a metallic slab left around the shop, using her Gravity Magic to make it rather easy to be carried, alongside a dagger and a large sledgehammer, also easy to carry with her Gravity Magic. Finally, she took an arrow blessed with Time Magic, though she had to hold it in her mouth due to lacking any room on her hands to carry it with.

She knew Izuku, and many others for that matter, had the advantage when it came to mobility. While her Gravity Controlling Magic was certainly nothing to scoff at, it didn’t exactly help much when it came to traveling. Sure she could decrease her weight for higher jumps, but that was about it. That meant when it came to speed, Ochako had to take a more… unorthodox approach to say the least.

So, after using her Magic to take away the gravity of the metallic slab, she lifted it up and stabbed it with the Enchanted arrow, causing the slab to be frozen in time. From there, she smashed the slab with all her strength, pointing in the same direction she had seen the beam of light Konoa had cast earlier. Finally, she used the dagger she grabbed from earlier to stab into the slab, holding on for dear life as she waited for the Time Magic to wear off.

As Izuku sprinted, using his Magic to enhance his speed. Just enough to provide a noticeable boost, but not enough to have any lasting damage. He wouldn’t want that while dealing with this criminals. While running, he looked to his side and noticed Ochako flying. Not in the normal way she did, by using her Gravity Magic to grant herself zero gravity.

She was riding a flying metallic slab by stabbing the slab with a dagger, having presumably used her Magic on the slab to lower its gravity. Izuku chuckled. Her unorthodox yet extremely clever way of thinking was why he had admired her from the day they met. And her kind smile. And her beautiful face. And her soft yet down to earth voice. And her caring personality that he could always rely on. And her… he really needed to stay focused.

Izuku broke out of his thoughts and identified the beam of light near the house. From what he had seen, the door was broken down. They were running out of time. Thankfully it seemed to have been done through blunt force. That meant the Bandits who were here likely didn’t have any dangerous offensive Magic, as they would’ve used it to break in faster.

Ochako hopped off the slab, letting it fly off to infinity, before using her Magic to slow her descent and land on the house’s roof.

“I’ll go through the front, you go through the back!” Izuku shouted to his friend.

Ochako nodded as she went to the house’s front. Izuku dashed into the home. The first thing he noticed was several items having been smashed and tousled around. There were also signs of offensive Magic, as there was a newly formed hole in the wall.

If the bandits had that Magic, they would have used it to break into the house quicker. That means it must’ve belonged to the home owner. Hopefully they’re alright. That Magic likely gave them a bit help. Izuku thought.

As Izuku approached the living room, he noticed the panicked sounds of a masculine voice. Obviously not Ochako’s. Once in the living room he saw a bandit quickly using size altering Magic to shrink various valuable objects, while another bandit stuffed them into a bag.

Without a second thought, Izuku used his Magic to flick the air, launching a powerful shockwave that sent the bandits flying, one landing on a couch and another cratering a wall. He had been training enough to learn how much force would be needed to knock a person out with a shockwave, which meant that these two were out of commission.

“Izuku…” Ochako said near the back door.

Izuku heard his friend’s soft voice from the other side of the house. Izuku’s heart skipped a beat. He recognized that voice. It was the voice Ochako used whenever something bad had happened. Izuku took a deep breath, hoping and praying that whatever happened wasn’t irreversible.

His hopes were in vain.

As Izuku walked near the back of the house, he noticed a man, in a different outfit and lacking the matching masks from the bandits. This must’ve been the home owner. A man who was currently impaled by two large knives. A man whose breath had stopped that day.

—————————————————————————

Izuku was informed later that day that the man’s name was Mana. He had learned it after reporting to his personal mentor, Toshinori Yagi, after informing him of the recent events. Izuku had done so in hopes of trying to find any known relatives of the man. Family, friends, pets, anyone. Anyone he could send every last condolence his heart could give, but not ask for forgiveness because he did not deserve it. Because he had failed today.

If only he had been just a bit faster. If only his training had allowed him to use his Magic without pressing as large of a strain on his body, which would let him use larger quantities of it. If only he had just been better. However, no amount of “if only”s or “what if”s could be used to illusion himself of the truth.

He is a Royal Guard in training, he is not meant to fail. He is not meant to be the person who should’ve been there faster, who should’ve been stronger, he is SUPPOSED TO BE the person who is already capable enough. That is what he told himself, each and every time he made even the tiniest of mistakes in Royal Guard training.

And yet here he was, sobbing like a baby in the gentle arms of his mother, who was showering his mind with countless words of love, and how she was so sorry. Words that he knew he didn’t deserve. If he was better he would’ve never needed them in the first place.

After he and Ochako had informed Toshinori of the incident, Toshinori did some digging and found the man’s name and that there were no relatives that they knew of. No friends, no family, no anyone. He might as well have been a ghost to the real world. To the lesser Royal Guards, they would’ve simply dismissed this and moved on with their lives.

Izuku didn’t care about that. He didn’t care if this person was a pure hearted soul, a nobody who no one cared about, or a dark hearted criminal. He had failed them, and that was all that mattered. He had failed in his path of becoming a Royal Guard many times before, but this was different.

This had costed a person’s life. And while Ochako had the excuse that her Magic and overall fighting style wasn’t as suited to long distance traveling, forcing her to take more time to get ready and reach the home, Izuku didn’t have such an excuse. Even if he did, there was no way he would’ve tried to use it.

After around a half an hour longer of simply crying in his mother’s hands, he stumbled to bed. After a bit of discussion, their home room teacher, Aizawa, had agreed to let Izuku stay at home to recover from the day. The boy was a mess. Ochako as well, though she wasn’t as torn up, she knew Izuku would need some comfort after quite possibly the worst day of his life.

The ghosts of his sins cried out as the viridian haired boy had succumb to sleep.

—————————————————————————

Ochako stared at the ceiling of her bedroom. Her soft cushioned bed doing little to comfort the complete and utter mess going on in her mind. She was disappointed at her self, no, she was LIVID at herself. She shouldn’t have spent that much time trying to set up her plan to traverse to the house. She should’ve thought of a quicker, but still fast solution.

After a mediocre dinner (partially because of her lack of an appetite), her parents gave her one last “I love you” as their daughter walked into her bedroom. Ochako knew she was going to be staying up late, thinking of what she could’ve done differently. Should’ve done.

While Ochako was devastated, her sadness wasn’t quite on the level of Izuku. The boy had always been a bit fragile mentally, having been bullied most of his life. Izuku had told Ochako that his Magic was a late bloomer, and he spent most of his life being ridiculed by others for being a worthless sack of trash.

She was glad she helped turn around the meaning of the nickname those bullies had given him into something he could be proud of. What she wasn’t as proud of was Izuku’s reaction to today. After the two had been informed that Mana might as well have been a nobody to the rest of the world, Izuku’s grief toppled on even more. There was no one he could try to provide comfort to.

Ochako felt the same way. She also wanted to pour out every ounce of apologies and condolences her heart could give. But like Izuku, there was no one there. After failing to help Mana, she would yet again fail to give any help to those distraught by this event.

Or… would she?

Ochako spiked up. While Mana had no none close relationships, that didn’t mean no one was grieving the event. So, if there was no one close to Mana that she could comfort, she would instead find the person who suffered the second most from this event.

Ochako spent the rest of the night struggling to go to sleep, but this time it was for very different reasons. While earlier she was beating herself up over her failure, now she was looking into the future. Thinking of any and every way she could help Izuku, even if her efforts would be futile.

She knew Inko wouldn’t be able to for the majority of the day, she had to work at the medical center near town center. While Inko would give up the day of work to comfort her son in a heartbeat, Izuku had told her to go anyway. Ochako had a feeling he did so because he felt he didn’t deserve comfort.

Ochako dozed off thinking of how she was going to prove him wrong. Prove to him, that Izuku Midoriya deserved each and every inch of love and compassion from those around him.

—————————————————————————

Izuku spent his morning stumbling around, struggling to do anything. After convincing his mother that he would be fine for the day, he was now at a lost of what to actually do in his spare time.

He tried to start more training, but every time he started, all he could think about were those same ghosts. Crying to Izuku, of his failure and sins.

You should’ve been doing this more.

You should’ve been there faster.

You should’ve been better.

He couldn’t cough up any amount of training when all he could think about was that he should’ve been doing this earlier. So, like any other coward would, he sided against it. Izuku sighed to himself. He really was pathetic. He didn’t even deserve this Magic.

With no one to accompany him and a lack of anything to do for the day, all he could do was sit around and mope, sulking, even though he knew he didn’t deserve to. If anything, he should’ve been the one to take the blunt of his own failures. He should’ve-

Knock Knock Knock

Izuku heard a firm knock coming from the doors of his and his mother’s home. He sighed. Usually when he felt upset, he would try to look as presentable as he could to those around him. Toshinori himself said to always try to have a smile on his face.

While Izuku tried to follow his mentor’s teachings like Gospel, he wasn’t exactly in the mood to follow this one at the moment. And so, he slumped himself with a frown and opened the door.

Much to his surprise, there lied Ochako Uraraka. Unlike her Blacksmith outfit, which was what he usually saw her in nowadays, she was wearing something more casual. To back this up she had a gentle, soothing, soft smile on her face. Izuku stuttered. He had to stop doing that. Once he regained his senses he began to talk to his best friend.

“U-Uraraka. What are you doing here?” Izuku said, proud of himself for only stuttering once that sentence.

“I came her to support you. You went through a horrible, horrible day, and don’t think I’m just going to leave you to handle it alone.” Ochako said, taking a more firm, but still gentle voice.

“Thank you Uraraka, but I-I don’t really need it. Besides you probably-“ Izuku tried to start before he was cut off.

“No D… Izuku. I love working at the store, it’s the least I can do for my family. But right now, you come first. Please.” Ochako asked.

Shoot.

Izuku looked down at his best friend. She had slight puppy eyes, but in a weird way, they still kept the firm yet supportive tone she held earlier. Izuku sighed to himself. She was impossible to say no to when she was like this.

“A-Alright. Thank you Uraraka.” Izuku said as Ochako entered his home.

Ochako had been by the Midoriya’s place a few times before. Sometimes to help with studying or training, other times to just talk. Only problem was Inko’s occasional comment that she was finally proud of her baby boy for getting a girlfriend.

After Ochako had arrived, she told Izuku she’d opt to make him breakfast for the morning. Izuku accepted. As she started the morning food, she couldn’t help but sneak peaks at Izuku’s face. This time however, he wasn’t looking so bright.

That smile, that same smile that she could never get enough of, was completely gone. While she would’ve loved to be the reason it returned, she had been kind of stumped on how to do so.

Izuku wasn’t like other people. He didn’t struggle with things like standing up for others, or anything along that lines. He threw himself to protect the lives of others so frequently it almost seemed like a problem. He didn’t freeze if a dangerous Villain was threatening to attack an innocent, his body moved without thinking to save them. He never struggled with any of that.

What he did struggle with however, was confidence. Likely due to constant bullying in his early life, Izuku struggled with self esteem. It had gotten to the point where he would make illogical reasoning to NOT justify his failures, actively putting himself in a worse light because of his mistakes.

As Ochako continued to make breakfast, she had an epiphany that this was why Izuku was the way he was. He’s like a Hero who never appreciates the weight of his accomplishments. A light that never realizes the intensity of its own glow.

Ochako handed Izuku a plate of breakfast before fixing one of her own. She had finally realized what she needed to do.

—————————————————————————

About an hour after Izuku and Ochako had finished breakfast, Ochako had asked for Izuku to begin practice sparring.

While Izuku would almost never pass an opportunity to train (especially with his crush and best friend), he had gone through a lot yesterday. Still, it wasn’t right that Ochako would lack any form of training because of his own mental state. So, he agreed to have a couple practice sparring with her.

The two agreed on a few basic rules, agreeing Magic Usage was allowed, and that each round would be decided by who could pin the other down for 5 seconds, though the number of rounds they agreed to play was unspecified. Ochako walked a fair distance from Izuku and gave a playful smirk.

“Just you and me Deku. Get ready to eat dirt!” Ochako said.

Izuku gave a very small smile as his cheeks flushed. Ochako’s cheeks illuminated a brighter pink at the sight of this.

As the two began, Ochako had sprinted forward, taking the offensive. This was unusual for her during their sparing matches, so Izuku was caught a little off guard. Nevertheless, Izuku utilized his Magic to grant a little pep in his step. Izuku darted forward with a flying kick, which Ochako slid under to dodge.

Expecting this, Izuku charged more of his Magic to leap himself back to Ochako while giving a roundhouse kick from above. The attack just barely grazed Ochako. The Gravity Girl counted her luck.

Now up close, Ochako was taken into the defensive. She knew that in a purely melee fight, without any additional items, she stood far worse odds against Izuku. She had planned to land a surprise attack by rushing in earlier despite this, but now that Izuku was prepared and up close, Ochako had to play more passively.

Izuku knew and was planning to take advantage of this, delivering a flurry of jabs near Ochako. While she had dodged most of them, she couldn’t do for all of them, and was sent flying back and onto the ground by one particularly strong attack.

Izuku darted to her before she had a chance to recover, intending to pin her down to claim this round. But before he could, Ochako touched and activated her Magic on him, prompting him to lose gravity and be sent flying through the air with a powerful kick.

Ochako giggled at seeing her best friend flying through the air like a makeshift green ballon. Izuku, enjoying whenever Ochako enjoyed herself. For one fleeting moment, he genuinely felt like he was having fun. If there was one thing he knew Ochako was good at doing, it was the impossible. It was no wonder she helped him in his darkest hours, when it seemed impossible.

Then Ochako fled to grab nearby items to throw at Izuku. Obviously wanting this, Izuku prepared a flick with his fingers, launching a powerful shockwave that sent the items Ochako has been aiming for flying out of her reach.

However, the nanosecond he did this, he was reminded. This was the last thing he remembered doing before he saw what happened. Before he saw the man who suffered because of his failures.

Izuku immediately fell to his knees. The ghosts were back. They were there, taunting him, screaming at him. Ochako turned around, initially intending to give a quick compliment about Izuku’s aim, only to find her best friend at his knees.

Quickly putting two and two together, Ochako made a mad dash to Izuku and gently put her hands on his shoulders. Izuku flinched for a moment, before falling into her chest. Ochako gently massaged his hair as she whispered sweet and comforting words into his ears. Because he, Izuku Midoriya, deserved every inch of compassion her heart could grant him.

“You matter, Izuku Midoriya.” She whispered, gently rubbing his head while doing so.

Izuku quietly sobbed into her warming chest. She gently lifted his head so she could make eye contact to him. She wiped away the few tears on his face while gently cupping his cheeks.

“You aren’t alone.”

Izuku dived back into her chest, muttering “thank you”s. Normally she would get flustered at such physical contact, but her love for him trumped any and all sense of embarrassment in the moment. Though it didn’t stop her from silently blushing.

—————————————————————————

More hours passed as Izuku had chosen to silently do workouts. Later, much to Ochako’s disagreement, Izuku had specifically requested that they went to Ochako’s workshop so she could continue. While she would’ve disagreed, she realized that Izuku would protest to no end that she deserved to get something out of this too, and that he would help her at the workshop.

Ochako had made sure to finish her customer’s weapon first, the same one who had been interrupted from yesterday. Thankfully, he had agreed to paid extra for her dedication even after such a horrible event.

Ochako now approached the hardest stage of her plan. She gently told Izuku to move a few things in the shop. While Ochako’s Magic was more than enough for her to move them herself, Izuku had assumed she asked him so she could go do something more important.

With Izuku distracted, she turned the sign on her ship’s door from open to closed before locking the door. She patiently waited for Izuku to finish before approaching him, pointing to one of the cushioned chairs of the shop for him to sit on. She found another to do so as well.

“Let it out Deku.” Ochako said.

Izuku froze for a moment.

“H-Huh?” Izuku said.

“Let out any and every single little thought. Please, I know you don’t want to do this, but the key to get by this is through communication. And communication doesn’t come through staying silent.” Ochako said, firm, but gentle.

Izuku looked to the side, avoiding eye contact.

“There isn’t a-anything to talk about.” Izuku said.

“Is there?” Ochako asked again.

Izuku grunted before answering.

“I failed. Plain and simple. I should’ve been faster, I should’ve trained harder, no one should suffer because of mistakes that aren’t theirs. I let that happen.” Izuku said.

“Ok, did I fail?” Ochako asked him.

Izuku looked like she had just asked the most ridiculous question in the world.

“You? Of course not Ochako! You tried your best, and although you weren’t successful, that’s all that matters.” Izuku argued.

“Ok, then you didn’t either. You tried your best as well, and even though you also weren’t successful, all that matters is that you gave it your all.” Ochako argued back.

“I… I… I wasn’t supposed to fail. My Magic is deserved for strength and mobility. I don’t have an excuse. You do. You had to spend several seconds getting ready to keep up with me. You were at a disadvantage already.” Izuku spat back.

“And you weren’t? Mana doesn’t have any kind of speed altering Magic, we didn’t have much time to do so. We were both at a disadvantage.” Ochako said, again using Izuku’s own logic against him.

“I-I, I, I’m not, I, Uraraka… I…” Izuku stuttered.

His eyes began swelling again. Ochako reached forward, asking permission to comfort him again. This time he declined, gently pushing her hands back. She respected this and say back, giving him both distance and a moment to breath.

Taking more deep breaths, he continued.

“I… I just… I’m not suppo…” Izuku stuttered before clearing his throat.

He seemed to have thought to himself before making a decision.

“U-Uraraka. Im going to tell you a secret. Please, don’t let it leave this room. It’s important here.” Izuku said.

“Not on my life.” Ochako said, no doubt in mind.

“I… I have a power. A really special power. You know how I said I was a late bloomer with my Magic?” Izuku asked as his best friend nodded.

“I lied. I never had any Magic to begin with. Remember that story I told? The one where I ran into the house on fire to save the kid inside?” Izuku asked.

“Yes? Why bring it up?” Ochako asked.

“Alright when I got out, I saw that the Royal Guard All-Might was there. He was interested in me, saying how inspiring that I was the only one brave enough to go into fire, even though there was a crowd of people. From there we stayed in touch and eventually… he gave me something.” Izuku said.

“I see.” Ochako said, silently putting the pieces of the puzzle together in her mind.

“A Magic Ability called ‘Life Mark’. Basically, it can be passed down from user to user. What it does is take what you want to do in life, and allow you to do it with a Magical Ability. Mine was saving as many people in as little time as possible, so I got a Magic Power focused on strength and speed.” Izuku continued.

“Because of that Magic, I’m put on a much higher scale than the rest of you. N-No offense. You all have such amazing Magic powers, but I was CHOSEN to have this Magic. He chose ME. If I don’t live up to his expectations, if I don’t succeed, then that means I’m not deserving of it.” Izuku said.

Ochako looked up, watching him continue to avoid eye contact.

“Does All-Might expect you to be perfect?” Ochako pointed out the flaw in his logic.

“I… n-no. I’m supposed to be though. I have the most important Magic Ability in the world, I’m not meant to fail.” Izuku said.

“Izuku…” Ochako said, reaching out to hold him again.

This time he accepted.

“No amount of Magic, luck, skill, or anything means you should expect to be perfect. You’re more like the rest of us than you think. You’re… human. You’re allowed to make mistakes, you’re allowed to cry on someone else’s shoulder every now and then. All that matters…” Ochako paused.

“Is that you give everything you’ve got.” She and Izuku said at the same time.

Finally, Izuku reclaimed eye contact with her. She even more beautiful than the last time he had seen her.

“I… I don’t have anything to say. You keep amazing me with how perfect you are.” Izuku said.

“Hey, what did I just say about perfection? Don’t think I’m exempt from that list either.” Ochako chuckled, not even completely realizing what he just said.

“Could’ve fooled me.” Izuku said without thinking.

The brown and green haired teens froze at the moment. Now her brained kicked in, and she realized just what he had said. Ochako blushed and looked at Izuku. In, his mind Izuku sighed. He might as well get this out since he knew she didn’t feel the same way.

“Uraraka, I… I… you are the reason why I get up in the morning. W-When I’m worried, o-or when I’m afraid of what’ll happen next, I think about you.” Izuku said.

“Deku.” Ochako said.

“A-And it’s frustrating because I-I know you’re too good for me. A-And I know t-that you don’t feel the s-same way, and you deserve so much Uraraka, s-so much more than me.” Izuku stuttered before feeling Ochako’s hand on his cheek.

She didn’t even need to say anything.

Izuku didn’t either. All he gave her was a questioning look, checking to make sure.

All she did was nod, a small tear falling down her face.

—————————————————————————

The next morning came easier for Izuku. Time seemed to fly by when your heart was carrying so much less. And yet, so much more at the same time. One of those things happened to be the soft hands of the beautiful brunette.

Yesterday went by much easier, as both moved with a bit more pep in their step. Likely thanks to the lifted weight from their shoulders. Of course, once Inko arrived they nervously delivered the good news.

To their surprise, she didn’t seem too shocked. She was happy, obviously, but it was clear she knew about their mutual crush long before today.

But right now, all Izuku could think about was the future. He wasn’t thinking about what he should have done differently, now, all he could think about was what he WOULD do differently. And a very fair number of those things happened to involve his Blacksmith best friend.

Ochako had opted to spend the night the other night, after two serious convincings. One to her parents about her staying at her boyfriend’s house, and one to her boyfriend, explaining why she wasn’t going to hog his bed in his own house, and why she was going to sleep on the bed.

The two had gotten up a bit earlier than usual, marching outside Izuku’s home and into the grassy meadows below. While holding his hand, Ochako looked back and smiled.

“Here’s to another day of UA!” Ochako said.

Izuku blushed. He gently pulled her closer.

“And here’s…” Izuku thought, trying to think of a clever follow up.

He failed.

“H-Here’s to this.” Izuku said before pulling her even closer.

He gently pressed his lips onto hers. He and Ochako were blushing so much red they could pass off as stop signs. The kiss was short and simple. Just a small peck.

Of course, teenagers being teenagers meant they were hungry for more. This time Ochako leaned in, kissing a bit harder as her tongue met his. Izuku could swore he felt his heart jumping from out body.

After sharing a few more kisses, they simply looked at each other. While there were things they could’ve said, they didn’t feel they needed to. They had so much emotion for them, both the Knight and the Blacksmith believed that words wouldn’t be able to describe them.

For the rest of that night, the ghosts were silent for Izuku Midoriya.
