Chapter Text
Noah, a ghost, who’s been living in the same house for over 50 years now. How? He would like the answer too. He watched as his partner Emma packed up and left the house for good. He waited, and waited. Weeks on end, counting every second, every hour. He was relentless. After what feels like forever, he saw through the window a couple. Moving in like they owned the place.
owned.
.
owened..
.
owend?
Noah felt like that word was connected to another, but he had no time to be curious. He hid to the corner of the room, as the door swings open revealing an annoyed woman, and a giddy man, who was carrying all the boxes. “Isn’t this place beautiful, mi amor?” The woman scoffed and sat down at the dusty couch. “As if! This place looks like a dump. It also gives me the creeps.”
Noah didn’t even know the woman’s name yet, and already he hated her. He took a step forward, looking at the two more freely. “Awh, mi amor.. Its been given by that lovely old lady! Mrs.. Emma, I believe?” Noah suddenly turned his attention to the man, quickly flying over to him. ‘Emma? My Emma?! You met her?’ He asked desperately to the man’s face. But instead, the man walked through Noah’s ghostly body.
”That old lady, was crazy. Seriously, she could’ve at least cleaned this place before we moved in!” The woman complained, which Noah already found irritating. “Mi amor, Heather, por favor. She didn’t clean it because her lover died here.” The woman scoffed at that and pulled out her phone.
Noah was standing in the middle of the living room, not touching the ground. His face was in shock and pure happiness. His beloved is alive, and still misses him. He grimaced at the thought that she didn’t get another loves, or so he believes she didn’t. He looked at the man, who was unpacking some boxes. Noah had a plan.
Over the past few weeks after the couple moved in. Alejandro, was the man's name, Heather was the woman's. Overtime Noah tried everything to get their attention, from trying to make a glass cup shatter, to trying to make the lights flicker. All in all, he had failed. he wept in the bedroom where him and Emma used to sleep, which was now filled with boxes and dust. He wasn't one to usually cry, but he felt like this was an exception. that no matter how hard he'll try, he would never be reunited with his beloved.
"hello?! Is somebody in there?!" Noah heard Alejandro yell, as he opened the door which made a creaking sound. He rolled his eyes, he didn't have time to waste it on some hot and sexy spanish guy. He needed a way to-..
Noah had another idea, if Alejandro could hear him weep, he might hear him if he put enough Emotion into it. however, Noah wasn't too great with expressing emotions. but, he's willing to try, for Emma.
He held out his hand. He closed the door behind Alejandro with a slam, and locked it. Alejandro looked freaked out but put on a brave face. 'Perfect' Noah said to himself, going to the window which had the moonlight shine through it perfectly.
Noah sat down in the middle of the light, getting ready to put on a show. Once he heard Alejandro slowly step closer, he put on the waterworks. Thinking of his golden lab, his family and friends, Emma.
Noah can already feel ghostly tears in his eyes, he got right into action and started to weep into his hands. Pretending to not notice that Alejandro was just right behind him. Noah kept crying, putting all his heart and soul into it. Eventually, it all worked.
"Hola? Are you alright, cariño?"
Noah had to repress his smirk, he felt Alejandro take a step further. He looked back, with a fake look of shock on his face. "Y-you can see me?" He asked with a desperate tone.
"si? Why woudn't I see you?"
Noah stood up, making his ghostly figure appear more clearly in the moonlight. He smiled nervously at Alejandro, hoping he won't go cry like a baby. Instead, Alejandro gawked at Noah's appearance.
He ignored it and put on a fake smile, taking a step forward to Alejandro. "It's so nice to finally be seen! I'm so happy!" Alejandro nodded, speechless as he looked a bit up at Noah who was practically levitating.
"It's been.. so long.. so long since-.." He cuts himself off and looks to the side, choosing not to continue that sentence. "C-could you perhaps help me? Alejandro?" Noah asks desperately, not even faking it anymore. By the way Alejandro wasn't answering him, made him go crazy.
"you know my name..?" Noah nodded. "I've been here for so long.. I just need to see somone important to me.." Alejandro nods, looking determined. Noah almost laughed at how easy it was to trick people.
"And that would be?" "I'd like to see Emma.. My Emma.." Alejandro's eyes widen, he took a step back. Which made Noah a bit nervous and confused on why. If Noah was right, Alejandro should know who Emma is.
"I-is something wrong? Did she- die?!" Noah asks frantically, forgetting his mask and went face to face with Alejandro. "N-no! No! Of course not! It's just.." Alejandro scratches the back of his head. "Are you.. Noah?" He nodded at Alejandro's question.
"Look, amigo. I'll try to help as much as I can.. but, maybe tomorrow afternoon? It's a bit late." Noah nods and sighs. Alejandro was about to exit but looked back to give Noah one final look, only to find that he was gone. The curtains blown lightly to where Noah was.
"That's bullshit." Heather said, rolling her eyes at Alejandro's 'made up story'. "But, its true! Mi amor, believe me!" Alejandro pleaded to his fiancè, who didn't look convinced.
"How do you expect me to believe, that old lady's deceased lovers ghost, is haunting the house?!" Heather slammed her hands down on the cafe table. Earning some attention.
"Because! I talked to him! And he was.." Alejandro looked away, blushing. Heather raised an eyebrow at her fiancès expression, she coudn't help but be curious as well. "Look. This is stupid. There's no way ghosts are real-" Heather stopped Alejandro from protesting. "-but! I'll believe it, if you show him to me." Alejandro nodded eagerly.
"Ay! Mi amor, you won't regret this!" Alejandro stood up and hugged Heather, she protested a little but later succumb to Alejandro's affection.
It wasn't like ghosts were actually real, yet her fiancè spoke to the ghost the way he used to speak to.. well, her. She was interested, she never cared about Mrs. Emma's former lover. But now, she was having second thoughts.
Noah counted the seconds, which reminded him too much of when he first started off his years as a ghost. He had nothing to do. The two couple were out 'going to a cafe'. He rolled his eyes as he went through every room, hoping for any sorts of entertainment.
He found himself back to the living room with a black large screen in front of him, he heard the couple call if a 'TV' one time. Noah held out his hand and tried with all his might to turn it on, working up quite a sweat after an hour of doing that.
He succefully tuened it on. Noah dropped to the floor in exhaustion, it took a lot of energy for him just to do a simple task, but at least he was improving. He sat up and looked at the bright screen, his ghostly eyes adjusting a little. He watched in awe as the pictures were moving so smoothly in front of him.
Noah stayed in that position until night.
Noah's eyes watched all over the bright pixels of the screen, not even blinking. The room was dark, the only light source was from the TV. Noah heard the front door get unlocked but, he was too busy staring at the bright screen.
"What the fuck is that?!
Noah snapped his head to glance at the couple behind him, scaring the both of them. Heather took a step back and got behind Alejandro. “Hola, Noah! I see you’re.. busy.”
Noah adjusted his head, fixing it and then going to the couple. He stood right in front of them, tilting his head looking confused. “S-so that’s the Noah?” Heather hesitantly asked, Noah nodded before Alejandro could answer his fiancé. “Hello..” the two flinched when Noah spoke.
“uhm- Amor, Noah here would like our help..” Alejandro says, he nodded at Alejandro’s statement. Floating a bit higher so they could look up at him instead of down. “Yes, I require your assistance.” Heather came out from hiding behind her fiancé’s back, she looked up at the ghost and raised an eyebrow at him.
“Don’t you like being a ghost or something?” Alejandro and Noah stared blankly at her, it took every ounce of will for Noah not to slap his forehead. “Oh, no. I love being a ghost, getting to stay in the same house where of which I died in. Yeah, great.” Noah rolled his eyes.
”You seem mean for a ghost.” Heather pointed out at the ghost’s sarcasm. “Yeah, well. Im sick of this ghost business. I just want to see my Emma again before I can happily go.” “Go where?” Alejandro inquired, he looked at Alejandro who looked worried. “Anywhere that’s not here. That’s where.” Alejandro and Heather looked at each other before looking at Noah, who was waiting for their response.
”how does this work exactly?” Heather asked, Noah felt a wave of happiness come over him. He tried to hug at least one of them, but alas it didn’t work. “Just- just bring Emma to me..” he said, but before he could somewhat-rejoice in excitement, Heather was smiling at him weirdly and shaking her head slowly. “Oh we’ll do that, but what about us?” Noah looked at them confusingly. “What about you?”
Heather gave a wicked chuckle, she slapped the hand that Alejandro had put on her shoulder. “I mean, what’s in it for us?” Alejandro looked at his fiancé, not of disgust, but admiration. He will truly never fall out of love with her beautiful mind. Noah stayed silent, not knowing how to answer. He looked shocked. “Maybe your house not being haunted anymore?” He tried but Heather shook her head again.
“Sorry not sorry, but that doesn’t count. You have to give us something better, Noah.” He looked at Alejandro, needing any help, but only seeing Alejandro stare lovingly at Heather. “What else is there for me to give you? It’s not like I have a mansion or riches.” Alejandro chuckles at that, making Heather glare at him before she returned her focus to the desperate ghost.
”You can convince us if you.. clean up the house.” Heather said, Noah glared at her. “And, why would I do that?!”
“Unless you don’t want to see your ‘Emma’ again. You’ll do what we say, understand?” The ghost’s face was surprised at the offer. He glanced at Alejandro and then back to Heather. ‘Was this worth it?’ He asked himself in the head, he caved in and nodded his head. “Fine.”
Heather held out her hand, which Noah gladly took and shook it. Suddenly, a burst of energy was felt as they shook hands. Immediately Noah fell to the floor, panting as he tried to catch his breath. He didn’t know what that was, but now he felt strange.
He gulped and looked up at the couple, hoping he wouldn’t regret this deal later.
The days went by quickly, every now and then Noah would be summoned somewhere in the house. Either to clean, or to go fetch something. He felt disgusted by how he felt like some maid to the two. But, whatever gets him to Emma.
Noah was peacefully looking outside, seeing the people walk by was comforting. Until he felt he was being summoned again, he groaned and not-so gladly disappeared to wherever he was being summoned.
He looked at Alejandro, who was sitting on the bed waiting for him. Noah glared at him. “What is it?” He asked, Alejandro chuckled at his question. Noah saw that Alejandro was holding an interesting looking book in his hands. “I see you have a good eye, cariño.” Noah flew on closer to Alejandro, sitting next to him on the bed.
”this- is a very special book, I bought it at some old store. Antiquitus Library was its name I think..” Noah perked up at the name, he remembered that Library well. He used to go with Emma when he was still alive. He tried to grab the book, but still, his ghost body just went through it. He retrieved his hands back and looked down on them, feeling a bit disturbed by how he couldn’t even grab a book now.
Alejandro can only laugh at Noah’s failed attempts at trying to grab the book, he stopped Noah by placing a hand in front of him. “Now, now.. calm down, amigo." Alejandro says, Noah looks at him incrediously but sat still.
"This little book, allows me to make you more special." He tilts his head in confusion, somehow making Alejandro stare at him before Alejandro continued. "lay down there." Alejandro ordered, Noah felt his ghost body move to a specific spot on the bed. In the middle.
Noah also forgot to mention, that the deal he had made with Heather, also required for him to obey ever and any command they throw at him. He glared at Alejandro cautiously as he read the book.
He looked up at the ceiling, lost in thought as he waited for Alejandro to do something. Whatever it was. Noah's ghostly body didn't touch the mattress, his body was just hovering over it. That reminded Alejandro of a specific scene in a horror movie, except that he wasn't scared by it.
Alejandro started to read the contents of the book aloud, closing his eyes and raising one of his hands to the ceiling. Chanting, appearing like he was summoning a demon right on the bed. Noah rolled his eyes, his body keeping still, not like he can even move anyways due to the command.
Noah shivered as a cold wind got in through the open window, he made a mental note to close that after this.
.
.
.
cold wind?
.
Noah's eyes turnd his attention down at his body, slowly seeing it more clearly instead of it always being translucent. Alejandro kept chanting, not responding to the amazed looks he got from Noah.
He felt the cold wind of the night, the heaviness of his body. He felt everything, for the first time since he died. He gave a happy chuckle, slowly -- but surely-- he felt his body drop to the mattress as soon as Alejandro finished. He sat up, feeling the warm and soft blanket on the bed. The warm lighting finally applying to his body again, even making shadows.
“So? How does it feel, amigo?” Alejandro asked, in a split second, Noah tackled Alejandro to the hard ground. Hugging him tightly, no intentions of letting go. “Amigo? Noah?” Alejandro looked down at Noah, who was hugging his chest. Hugging.
Alejandro gave a chuckle, returning the hug as they continued to stay in the same position.
After a few minutes later, Alejandro felt Noah’s grip soften, only to realize that he fell asleep. Alejandro carried the once-ghost in his arms, Noah’s cold skin clashing with Alejandros warmth. He put Noah down on the soft bed, tucking him in. He watched Noah, soundlessly sleep.
Alejandro stood up, approaching the door and turning off the lights. He took one last glance at the sleeping figure on his bed, before shutting the door completely. Leaving Noah alone in the dark room, which had a faint light from the moon.
Noah smiled mischeviously, opening his eyes. His plan was working out better than he ever expected.
