Moments

Summary:

A collection of my Cabenson ficlets, drabbles, and headcanons.

Chapter 1: That time Alex wore the wrong pants...

Chapter Text

A.N. Okay, so this is not a story but a collection of my Cabenson headcanons from Tumblr. I’ve been hesitant to do this because I typically use this place to post my stories, but I’ve been itching to consolidate these drabbles and ficlets for over a year. These cabenson moments are in random order. Some are humorous and fun, like this one :) And others may have angst or hurt/comfort themes. It’s just a wild hodge-podge of all my headcanons, most of which I wrote quick and between chapters when I had time. I will update tags as I go.

Happy reading :)

The Wrong Pants

Her doorbell rang.

Alex sat up, looked beside her, smiling at the sight in her bed. The detective laid on her stomach with her arms wrapped around the pillow under her head; a grey-colored sheet draped over her, covering most of her body.

She stayed.

The doorbell rang again, and Olivia stirred. "What's that?" She murmured, still half asleep.

"I got it. Go back to sleep." Alex leaned over and kissed her cheek. They were long past the fling stage; she could sneak in tender kisses and Olivia wouldn't flinch.

The doorbell rang again and Alex finally slid out of bed, a draft breezing over her nakedness. She squinted in the dark, grabbing a t-shirt and pants from the pile of clothes strewn about on the floor. Some by the bed, some by the door.

She pulled something on quickly, not thinking about style or fit, and meandered from the room, turning on the living room lights to save herself from stumbling into a wall; the soft bottoms of her feet rolling across chilled hardwood.

She looked through the peephole then opened the front door, a little surprised but not shocked to see Elliot standing dressed for the office but missing his tie. In his hand his phone.

"I know it's early counselor, but we got a break in the Murphy case."

Alex crossed her arms over her chest and leaned in the doorway. "You couldn't tell me over the phone?"

Elliot shrugged. "I was in the neighborhood." He flipped open his phone. "I'm calling Liv now."

A chill rushed down Alex's back and she straightened up, standing alert on both feet, the door gripped in her hand tight. "Wait—"

Elliot pressed the button and set his phone to his ear.

A tune played, not from the bedroom like she expected but from her pocket and Alex's gaze shot down. It was the pocket of a pair of dark grey slacks. The same pants Olivia wore to her apartment. The same ones she wore now. 'Shit...'

Alex looked back to Elliot, her gaze dragging up tentatively. Their eyes met for a second and Elliot sucked his lips in, looking between her and the pants pocket that kept ringing Olivia's tune.

He took the phone from his ear and closed it. A crooked grin stretched across his face. "Two birds, one stone." He slid past Alex and strode into the apartment.

"Elliot leave her alone." Alex tugged his jacket, but he escaped.

"Don't worry counselor, I've seen my partner in her underwear—"

"Elliot." Alex said through her teeth and rushed to catch up to him. "Elliot—"

"She's like a sister to me, promise—"

"Elliot—"

He stopped in his tracks, looking through the bedroom doorway. "There's sleeping beauty." He said, sticking his tongue in his cheek as he eyed his splayed partner. He took a deep breath and Alex's gaze widened.

"Elliot don't—"

"My bad did I walk in on something?!" Elliot yelled and flipped on the lights as he sauntered in proudly, his voice jolting Olivia from her sleep as she clutched the sheet to her chest.

He dived onto the bed like a kid and their eyes met, Olivia's wide.

"You having sleepovers with the A.D.A. now? Why wasn't I invited?" He jested and Olivia kicked him in the thigh with her covered foot, but Elliot just laughed.

"Don't roll over too much. Your clothes are over there." He nodded to the floor and Olivia’s jaw clenched. "Is this your way of cozying up to the D.A.?" He laughed, not a bit bothered by the menacing look in Olivia's eyes, as they glared at him under a furrowed brow.

"Hey, blame Cabot for wearing the wrong pants."

Olivia looked to the prosecutor, who stood in the doorway shaking her head with a hand over her eyes.

"I tried to call but you left your phone in your pocket." Elliot sputtered his laughs again.

"Get out."

"Don’t worry. Secret's safe with me, partner." He ruffled Olivia's short hair, hopping off the bed, and hustling to the door before she could snap at him. "Cragen wants us at the precinct in an hour." He left the room with a wave and disappeared around the corner.

Alex met Olivia's gaze. "...my bad. I’ll put my glasses on next time."
