"I want to be scared until I shit myself simply because I crave human emotion in its rawest form."

"I am NOT taking you back here if you embarrass me like that."

OR: Workaholic Wooyoung uses his day off to drag his friends to his local Halloween fright-night extravaganza. And San is the incredibly friendly temporary scare actor at his local amusement park.

Chaos ensues when San accidentally fucks up on his first day and injures an excited Wooyoung— however, San is confused to see that instead of being in pain, Wooyoung may have fallen in love.

Notes:

the result of growing up as a halloween-obsessed child at fright-night amusement parks and wondering if any of the scare actors were the love of my life behind the mask. also, small tw for self-deprecating humor as well as fake gore. if you are someone triggered by this, please read with caution (its all joking banter!)

Work Text:

From a distance, Wooyoung’s friends knew that the number one thing he refused to do was simply take a fucking break.

Working as a high-salaried interior designer straight out of university, Wooyoung had the unlikely habit of staying up for hours— sketching functional spaces and replying to hundreds of client emails. After receiving his degree, Yeosang (his best friend and fellow designer) wagered that Wooyoung had taken maybe a week off during his entire entry year. His excuse— of course he had one— was that he shouldn’t take getting a good job after graduation for granted.

Yeosang combated this by forcing him to accept that he just deserved the position, for fuck's sakes.

So when he told his friends (Yeosang and Yunho) about taking Halloweekend off, they were shocked. Despite his major fear of the occult and anything remotely dark, his friends simply agreed to tag along to whatever he desired to do. And for some reason, Wooyoung only wanted to scream, cry, and throw up at his city’s amusement park.

Every year, the local park held a “fright-night” of sorts— ensuring the presence of multiple scare actors wandering the premises to make every child violently sob. Everything was accompanied by spooky lights, modified rides, special foods, dark music, and haunted mazes. As a grown adult, Wooyoung decided it was prime-time to face his childhood fears and enter the park (with the protection of his friends, of course).

Surely, there were other options.

Dressed in a ridiculous Totoro onesie, Wooyoung appeared before Yeosang’s door, nearly jumping with glee. Yeosang begrudgingly opened up wearing an equally ridiculous Rilakkuma onesie (at the request of Wooyoung’s insistent begging). Beside him was an embarrassed Yunho— wearing a Pompompurin onesie to match. The two grown men with established jobs and difficult college degrees stood defeated at the very sight of their sleep-deprived best friend.

“I am only doing this for your sake, honestly,” Yeosang grumbled.

“You are so real for this.” Wooyoung had a guilty smile on his face.

“I’ll be honest kitten, daddy might kill himself after being perceived like this,” Yunho joked, slinging a bag over his shoulder and ushering his friends out the door.

“Get in the car and shut the fuck up,” Wooyoung said, happy to irritate his friends. It's not like they didn’t want to go to fright-night, they just had the strong inclination that the majority of it would include consoling a terrified Wooyoung. His heart was already struggling with the amount of work he accomplished daily— he really didn’t need to choose Halloweekend as his first days off.

To get into the spirit, Wooyoung blasted childish Halloween songs from his childhood while his best friends argued against his best wishes. Monster Mash blared out the speakers of his shitty toyota tacoma— Ghostbusters followed, making his friends roll their eyes.

“Wooyoung, yesterday you told me you watched a scary video before bed and proceeded to have a night terror. The day before that you watched a creepypasta lore video and couldn’t sleep with the lights off. Why on god’s green fucking earth are we going to an amusement park horror night?”

“If it isn’t already clear, I am a masochist and I will condition myself into liking the occult or so help me jesus.”

“You are going to piss your pants.”

“For the love of god, please stop being so mean to me.”

“No!” Yunho commented, throwing up a mini heart.

When Wooyoung pulled up to the heavily congested park, the sky was just beginning to fall into shades of deep blue and purple. The bright green, yellow, and orange glow from the park shone for miles ahead and the sounds of metal screeching upon tracks filled Wooyoung with ultimate delight. Though he was afraid of scary things, he loved thrill coasters. It was perhaps the only thing that would save him from the terrors of masked men parading chainsaws on stilts.

Like disappointed parents, Yeosang and Yunho tried their best to keep up with Wooyoung’s sprinting. They barely caught up to the ticket desk— Wooyoung had already bought his pass and was impatiently waiting for his friends to follow him. He blasted through the bag checks and entered the dimly lit park, throwing his hands up in euphoria.

“I am going to cry so hard,” he smiled.

“Right, freak,” Yeosang retorted as he watched his delirious friend prance around to the first booths he saw.

“I want to be scared until I shit myself because I crave human emotion in its rawest form.”

“I am NOT taking you back here if you embarrass me like that.”

“One day, I’m going to study your brain,” Yunho laughed, linking arms with Yeosang and rolling his eyes as they trailed along. They passed multiple kids dressed in their own Halloween costumes (of course half of them were also wearing onesies, much to his friends’ dismay).

At work, Wooyoung was an incredibly focused, driven, and stoic man— constantly picking up projects and kissing up to his employer’s ass in an attempt to receive consistent validation. Only when he was around his friends did he allow himself to go absolutely ballistic. His glazed-over eyes and deep bags that drooped beneath his waterline screamed “single and suffering.”

Yeosang always argued that perhaps it would be freeing to find Wooyoung a partner of sorts— someone who could help remind him that it was okay to take a break once and a while. However, the last time Wooyoung entered an “entanglement,” he spent the next ten hours crying to Yunho over text. Of course the individual he was sleeping with just had to lead him on and find someone else. After that, he deleted his dating apps and told Yunho that if the gods ever decided to let him live, he would not anticipate for it to happen.

They had just entered the park but Wooyoung had already backtracked to cling to his friends, watching in horror as the scare actors slid around in knee pads that sparked once they hit the ground. They lit up the boys’ faces and occasionally spooked them from behind.

“Lowkey, that’s kind of hot,” Yunho commented, watching a man in a clown mask slide in front of a group of terrified college girls.

“Should I ask for one’s number?” Yeosang joked.

“Guys— please, I’m going to throw up,” Wooyoung said, burying his chest into Yeosang while he laughed.

You brought us here.”

Wooyoung only shrieked in response, dodging a woman dressed as a zombie swinging around a faux axe. The scare actors littered the booths of funnel cake, cotton candy, fresh lemonade, and candy-shaped eyeballs complete with bloodied body parts. The three couldn’t get anywhere without laughing at each scare, protecting Wooyoung from either side. Wooyoung's voice already itched and burned from the screaming. Nevertheless, he trudged on.

“We need to go into a maze.”

“Are you absolutely sure about that?”

“I refuse to be a pussy.”

“Oh please, don’t act like your balls have dropped. You’re going to smudge your eyeliner from sobbing," Yunho snorted.

“For the umpteenth time, please for the love of god, stop being so mean to me!”

Yunho just laughed for the millionth time and violently ruffled his hair. Despite only being one year older, the two treated Wooyoung like a maddening younger brother. Even if Wooyoung beat them in the professional work-ethic category, they would always have reign over him.

After dodging the slew of terrifying (but not really ) individuals dressed as a multitude of disfigured characters, Wooyoung dragged everyone onto numerous thrill rides, braving through the lines full of scares. He felt safe only once he reached the metal seats, taking deep breaths to reset his bravery. He was glad to feel the cool, crisp air dry both the sweat and tears that had accumulated from sheer terror.

It was only when they stood before the massive slaughterhouse-themed haunted maze did Wooyoung seriously consider pissing himself. It was a carefully constructed arrangement with sounds of loud chainsaws, screaming, clanking of weapons, and smells of smoke emanating from the entrance. Wooyoung's grip onto his friends’ arms tightened in horror as his feet remained planted on the ground. Yeosang and Yunho looked at each other, smirked, and began the difficult process of dragging their petrified friend towards the line.

Once they entered the mass of darkness, Wooyoung felt his entire chest tighten up and the whole of his body shrinking smaller and smaller. The maze was decorated with fake hanging bodies and bloodied weapons all over the floor. He nearly shit himself at the first scare— a tall woman with a large machete loomed over him with a loud screech. He fell to his knees and felt the tears already coming on for the second time that night.

His friends shook their heads and attempted to console him through their teasing. Wooyoung's squeamish stomach could not handle the sights of gore and the actors incessantly begging for help— he nearly gagged at the sight of an individual pretending to be sliced in half. Even though the prosthetics were so incredibly obvious, Wooyoung would never be able to tell.

Somewhere outside the park while Wooyoung fought for his life, brand-new scare actor Choi San was preparing for his first shift as a masked man wielding a chainsaw adorned with ripped clothing as well as knee-pad sparklers.

Choi San was a registered CNA who had worked for nearly two and a half years caring for patients and aiding nurses within his field. He worked tired nights and barely had enough time to feed himself half the time. It was only when his younger roommate, Jongho, urged him to take time off did he realize that he was killing his body with stress.

However, San would have rather died than not work at least some sort of job for the month-long vacation he had. He had come home from work one day to find Jongho in some sort of clown mask in a poor attempt to scare him. Instead of succeeding, San was intrigued to find that his friend had been hired as a temporary scare actor for the local thrill park. Of course, San was immediately convinced to join the roster (he was too nice to turn down the offer).

It was the fateful week before Halloween when San was due to start— he was to play a violent and helpless young man complete with a chainsaw, sparkling knee-pads (which worried him to bits), and a mask that had a creepy smile sliced into the artificial skin. He was dressed in plain ripped clothing that included fake blood covering both his flesh and the white button-up. His boss told him that he was to represent a poor college student torn from innocence and entering a life of murder and sin.

To be honest, he didn’t really love the idea of scaring little children and making them sob. Choi San was likely the nicest person any of his friends had ever known. He was a natural caretaker— always offering to help those in need and had no problem being his friends’ emotional support. He was a certified nursing assistant of course— being lovely was simply first nature. So when he appeared in front of the mirror that day, he nearly frightened himself.

“Whoa, you look cool as fuck,” Jongho was elated to see his roommate in his horror glory. He himself was back in the terrifying clown costume (he was supposed to be Twisty from American Horror Story).

“Jongho, I’m not sure I like this.”

“Why not? I love making kids shit themselves.”

“We have a substantially different definition of fun, my friend.”

San was nearly intimidated by the rest of the scare actor gang— along with Jongho, he had met Hongjoong, Mingi, and Seonghwa. Hongjoong was dressed as a more attractive version of a clown, Mingi was some type of body-horror monstrosity, and Seonghwa’s face was painted to represent that of a porcelain doll (he was, however, more beautiful than terrifying).

“What if I ruin these sparklers?” San was incredulous of the metal fastened to his knee pads.

While he had thoroughly been trained to use them the week prior, he was still very iffy with the thought of accidentally injuring somebody. He’d seen them used before and was certain they were mostly safe— however, that did not shake away the idea.

He wanted his October break to be fun— he had agreed to Jongho’s proposition to simply get out of the “medical mindset” and let loose a bit. His friends argued that he never seemed to enjoy having time off— even in college he walled himself within his dorm and hunkered down to study for hours. He loved Halloween, sure, but part of him just wanted to trick-or-treat with the neighbors’ kids and relive the days in which he could enjoy the sweet-tooth.

It was only the first couple hours of his shift when he discovered he was to guard the exit of the slaughterhouse maze. His job was to pop out from the shadows and skid his way across the pavement in hopes of extracting screams from innocent thrill-lovers. He was told to avoid touching any individuals and to be aware of his surroundings. Besides that, he was given no other direction. Earlier in the day, all he did was walk around with a limp at the front of the amusement park— he wasn’t very good at getting any scares in (despite the freaky mask).

He hated the sounds the knee-sparklers made when he skated across the ground. The bright flickers bothered his eyes and he had trouble maneuvering through the crowd. Nevertheless, he held his position with uneasiness coursing through his system.

At the very middle of the maze ran a petrified Wooyoung, armed with his two bodyguards. It had taken some convincing, but they had finally gotten him to pass the section including prepared food dishes (that were supposed to be made out of the flesh of humans). It was tacky, but Wooyoung nearly threw up on his friends’ shoes.

The final scare was the worst. Even Yeosang and Yunho screamed alongside their friend, not expecting the large man (at least 6 '3) pretending to slice their necks with a giant butcher knife. That time, the three of them collapsed upon each other. Wooyoung was indefinitely sobbing at that point, his eyeliner streaming down to his freezing cheeks. He was happy alright, but his stomach was flipping in all kinds of ways he did not appreciate.

Walking out of the maze was the biggest relief he must have felt all night. So when the startling sounds of metal violently scraping against the pavement hit his ears, he must have seen the tunnel to his death. Without warning, Wooyoung felt the crushing pain of a full grown man’s entire body weight upon him. He barely had time to register how hard the actor had fallen into him— everything went blurry for a hot second as he struggled to regain his sanity.

Laying on the floor in complete horror was a maskless Choi San, complete with a bloodied Wooyoung by his side. Yeosang and Yunho were silent, only able to look upon the scene with shock (as everyone else in that area did). Unfortunately, the blunt force to the ground had likely broken a bone in Wooyoung's hand (he had braced himself with his right hand and fallen on the right side of his body). Not only that, but he felt searing hot pain on his hip— his stylish Halloween onesie had been ripped in multiple places and blood from raw skin was seeping out.

The silliness of their onesies couldn’t even distract the crowd from the shocking scene that unfolded before them. San couldn’t even pay attention to anything but the ringing that filled his eardrums. He knew he hadn’t been hurt— maybe a few bruises, but the boy below him had taken the brunt of the fall.

“Oh my god,” were the first words that hung in the air.

Rubbing his tearful eyes, Wooyoung finally regained some sort of consciousness of the situation at hand. It was silent all around— even the fellow scare actors stopped to look at the incident.

“Oh my GOD.”

Immediately breaking character, San jumped into CNA-mode and scrambled to the helpless Wooyoung. He dropped to his side and swiftly began checking his injuries, totally dropping the act (he knew he’d get fired for not only dropping the act, but severely injuring a visitor). The crowd was quiet as others called for the park’s first-aid service. Wooyoung was lucky, however, that Choi San knew exactly what he was doing.

“What hurts? Tell me right now,” San said in a panic, ignoring the concerned eyes.

“I’m not sure…my hand aches a bit…so does my head,” Wooyoung mustered, keeping his head low.

“I was careless, I didn’t mean to skate into you like that. I didn’t see you come out of the entrance. I am so sorry.”

Wooyoung finally looked up to find San’s eyes— they were embellished with dark red and black eyeshadow complete with faux blood vessels. Despite the darkness encapsulating his face, San had the friendliest look Wooyoung had ever seen. In a second, the pain seemed to dissipate into small pulses.

He stared for a good minute, tracing the details of the scare actor’s face with zero thoughts within his head. His friends breathed a sigh of relief as they instantaneously recognized the emotions Wooyoung was feeling at that moment.

“Oh boy,” Yeosang whispered.

“Yeah, he’ll be fine,” Yunho responded.

San watched in trepidation as Wooyoung seemed to fade in and out of consciousness— a dopey smile spreading across his face as he maintained eye contact with the panicked CNA. At that moment, San had nearly forgotten his CPR and first aid training. Suddenly, something switched in his brain and he immediately got to work.

“I’m first aid trained, do you consent to me helping with as far as my training goes?” San asked, his voice shaken up. Despite the worry, he knew he had to remain professional.

Wooyoung merely nodded as he let out a stifled giggle. His friends had joined San in kneeling on the ground and making sure their delirious bestie was at least breathing normally. San tore a piece away from his already ripped clothing and held it tightly against Wooyoung’s bleeding hip. Once again, Woo held that same starstruck gaze— his heart beating with fascination as he enjoyed every second of his medical treatment. San’s eyebrows were furrowed in complete concentration as he ripped off another piece of his shirt and wrapped it around the makeshift gauze— tying it tightly around Woo’s waist to stop the bleeding. It wasn’t life-threatening or anything, but it was way too much blood for comfort.

“No one move his hand, it might be broken,” San’s voice was stern and he was no longer panicking. He carefully applied pressure to Wooyoung's side while Yeosang placed a gentle hand upon his injured friend’s forehead.

“He’s heating up at the moment,” Yeosang said, beginning to feel genuine concern creep in. San felt sick as he watched Wooyoung’s chest move up and down at a slow pace.

“God, I am so sorry.”

“Why are you sorry?” Wooyoung finally spoke up, his words slurred. He looked straight out of a horror movie— surely, he would be the first victim to die (according to his friends).

“What?”

“Why are you sorry? You’re literally hot."

“You’re literally bleeding???”

Completely ignoring the statement, Wooyoung turned his head to find the mask that Choi San had previously been wearing before it flew off during their collision. Even though it hurt to move anything, Wooyoung disregarded the pain.

“Oh my god.”

“What, what?? Are you okay?” San was panicking again. He was aware that Wooyoung was experiencing some sort of delusion as a result of his head being knocked to all hell. His hands were shaky as he tried to wipe away the blood that was all over the man's torso, damaging the cute little outfit he had on.

He regrettably tore the Totoro onesie back to reveal more deep scratches and pavement-burns that littered the side of Wooyoung’s back. It was ugly— the purple and blue bruising of the skin was starting to appear and San knew Wooyoung would be in lots of pain the next few days. He felt awful guilt wash over him once again.

“The mask is so hot.”

Despite being incredibly worried for their friend’s wellbeing, Yeosang and Yunho stifled a laugh as they watched the scene unfold. The two knew that they’d be hearing about San’s dreamy face for the next week or so.

“I…you…you’re hurt…I… what?” San was utterly confused. However, part of him was also utterly relieved. Instead of getting his shit bashed in, he was being pampered in strange compliments from his victim.

“It’s okay, you’re hot. I literally don’t know why you’re apologizing. Hot people don’t do that,” Wooyoung’s eyes fluttered closed as he smiled. San rushed to make sure the boy wouldn’t lose consciousness— especially since he assumed there was a concussion involved. While going to sleep probably wouldn’t do any damage, he still wanted to make sure that Wooyoung was sane.

In a second, Wooyoung’s head fell limp on the ground as San only stared in shock and confusion.

It was only 8 pm— five hours into San’s shift…and the cute boy he’d just trampled had confessed his sudden attraction. San had no idea what was worse— the fact that he would get fired immediately, or the fact that he now had to deal with the consequences with the boy when he awoke. Either way, he would not be able to shake the strangeness of the whole situation and the charming attributes of the comatosed man laying on the floor before him.

Wooyoung was unconscious for the entire time he was driven to the hospital. San’s boss didn’t say much besides immediately letting him go for the night (he figured he was fired but there was no guarantee at that moment). Yeosang and Yunho (being the wing-men they were), were keen on getting the CNA’s phone number. It was only when the clock struck midnight when San discovered the cute boy’s name.

His name was Wooyoung— and he was apparently another workaholic. He had been swiftly added to a group-chat with the three of them (much to his alarm). But Yesoang and Yunho knew that if they didn’t get San’s number, Wooyoung would have ran back to the park for the chance to see him again (complete with blood all over his innocent Totoro). Yes, San thought Wooyoung was very cute. However, the moral dilemma flip-flopped around in his head like a dead fish. How on earth would it be appropriate to flirt with the man he could have killed?

Apparently (according to Yeosang), Wooyoung was simply a masochist. The thought still horrified the CNA, nonetheless (especially because that was such a vulnerable thing to expose to a stranger). So when San received the first text from the group-chat two days later, incredible anxiety took over his whole body.

A few minutes beforehand, Jongho had confirmed that San’s job actually hadn’t been terminated— their boss knew that accidents were inevitable when it came to giving the scare actors mildly dangerous equipment. It was his first day, anyway. Besides, San was a trained medical individual within the field of healthcare— everything had gone smoothly. After stopping Wooyoung's bleeding, the handsome boy was promptly rushed to the hospital and his friends were there to take care of him for the following hours. He was welcome to return to work after he felt okay enough to do so.

San didn’t think he’d be returning that week.

He couldn’t think, anyway. His phone had pinged with the frightening text from his newfound friend group. He nearly shit himself at the sight of the notification flashing on his screen.

Yeosang: hey king.

Yeosang: wooyoung wants to meet you in a conscious state

Wooyoung (cute victim): will you shut the fuck up

Yunho: come over?

San thought he might die at that moment. He was still recovering from the awful guilt that coursed through his system like a viral disease. Well yeah he wanted to go over— the two boys had further explained that Wooyoung was cooped up in their shared apartment with a thousand blankets thrown over him. They said he was being dramatic (he was of course— the last thing he could remember were the gates of heaven opening to reveal the beautiful San). The moral compass inside him screeched no but the curiosity was too much to handle. San took a good long and hard stare at the keys to his toyota corolla and proceeded to respond to the chat.

San: address?

🎃

On the way to the boys’ apartment, San made an effort to pick up a bouquet of flowers (Yeosang said that Wooyoung loved daisies, orchids, and carnations). He was parked outside of their place as his body shook with anticipation. He scrambled to put together a home-made bouquet— the flowers and leaves fluttered everywhere and left colorful debris on the bottom of his vehicle. He opted to simply clean up the mess later.

He was only there to apologize— at least, that’s what he repeatedly told himself. Besides, he hadn’t directly spoken to Wooyoung after their chance encounter. He had likely been treating his wounds and sleeping for hours (Yunho said that all he did was drink hot chocolate and watch romantic comedies whilst sobbing uncontrollably). San was probably going to make the situation worse.

Yesoang nearly flung the door open when San gently rapped his knuckles against the door. A string of profanities sprang from his mouth as Yeosang’s energetic presence almost made him topple over. The flowers swung side to side as more leaves began to drift down. Not only was a bouquet involved, but San had dressed up as nicely as he could.

“Wooyoung will love the business casual.”

“Does he even remember me?”

“Oh, does he.”

Yeosang gleefully led the nervous CNA into the living room where Wooyoung laid upon the couch covered in layers of warm comforters. He had a cast on his right hand and there were bandages peeking out of the shirt he was wearing. He looked incredibly comfy and San couldn’t deny the immediate attraction (and guilt) he felt. There were two wolves fighting inside of him— and they were both gay.

At the sight of San, Wooyoung’s eyes lit up and he shot up with lightning speed (even if it hurt like a bitch). To San’s absolute shock, the boy was smiling ear to ear, concussion and all.

“You came back for me?”

“Uh. I guess you could say it like that.”

Wooyoung finally noticed the bouquet of flowers that San was awkwardly holding. He was pretty sure he put way too many in there. He felt relief when Yunho rushed over to take them and place them in a stylish vase next to Wooyoung's couch.

Omg. Are those for me?” Despite being all bandaged up, Wooyoung sounded as if he was already healed. San’s presence (despite only knowing him for a few minutes) was enough to keep him alive and well).

“They…are. I came here to apologize for injuring you. Actually, I’m a certified nursing assistant and I should have known better.”

“Again. Why are you apologizing?”

San was frozen in his steps once again. He had sworn that Wooyoung’s attitude the fateful night a few days ago was only due to his delirium. The boldness that Wooyoung toted was shocking— San once again failed to react properly. He could only stare in disbelief at Wooyoung’s incessant gawking.

Somehow, he felt shy. His cheeks heated up (totally inappropriate) and he couldn’t respond.

“I told you! Hot people need not apologize! Besides, you didn’t run into me on purpose, did you? I mean if you did, I would be so down for that, too. Your name is San, right? Yeosang tells me you actually saved my life back there. Honestly, that was the most thrilling moment of my life and I would do it again in a he—”

Wooyoung, let the man talk,” Yunho interrupted whilst serving his fifth cup of hot chocolate that day.

“Lord, he hasn’t shut up about you. I’m sorry if it makes you uncomfortable. He’s still kind of out of it,” Yeosang said, handing San a cup of hot chocolate.

San only smiled and happily took the steaming cup. Actually, he found Wooyoung’s rambling to be somewhat endearing. He always liked seeing his patients happy and healthy when recovering from injuries— it was always a good sign. He wanted to know more about the intriguing man— the boys had only told him a few things. Like how he was an interior designer, how he was a fellow workaholic, and how he wasn’t the slightest bit upset at being rammed into the week before his favorite holiday. Besides, they were glad he had more time away from his stressful job.

“Sorry. You’re like my savior. It was thrilling, really!”

“You have no idea how glad I am to hear you say that,” San said, taking a seat on the couch next to Wooyoung. The delirious man's smile widened as he directed his attention at San.

“Seriously. I hope you don’t mind me. I want to talk to you more. I think healthcare is so interesting— what do you do on a daily basis? Can you stay to help me recover? My friends already like you! Are you going to work Halloween night? Can I go with you? How about we—”

“Wooyoung, please.” Yunho interrupted once again. San only chuckled.

“It's okay. Let him talk. I don’t mind listening. It's cute.”

Wooyoung nearly screamed. His dreams for the past two days had consisted of the gorgeous mystery man at the park— he had always pined for some sort of meet-cute to finally happen to him (granted, this was not the most desirable situation). Even if he was direct with his flirting, he didn’t actually expect for San to return the sentiment.

“No way. You think I’m cute?”

“You’re very cute. Actually, I kind of debated coming over. I thought it was morally gray to think you were cute. I mean, I literally broke your hand.”

“But you didn’t mean to! It was a rush! Omg, you do think I’m cute??”

“Wooyoung, no one says omg out loud, you freak.”

“Shut up Yeosang, I will spray hot choccy all over your fucking body.”

The sudden violence made San laugh out loud, nearly dropping his own hot chocolate. Wooyoung was clearly funny and had no issue saying everything on his mind— he was definitely San’s type.

“He’s actually so mean to us,” Yunho chimed in, joining the two on the couch.

“He’s a little princess bitch,” Yesoang added, scooting in next to Yunho.

San found it admirable that the three seemed to be like brothers, constantly bickering with one another but knowing that the love flowed freely between them. There was a comfortable ambiance that settled over the room— the flowers were fragrant, the hot chocolate was warm, the weather was cloudy, and there was the droning of a TV turned all the way down.

For once during that month, San felt a sudden peace. Nothing could have prepared him for the moment he would have crashed into the most spellbinding boy he’d ever met. He would have never guessed that he’d suddenly develop a crush on said boy— or that said boy wouldn’t be mad at the extensive scrapes, cuts, and broken bones he’d gain from the fateful rendezvous. It felt like a serene break from the madness of the residential facilities and nursing homes. Similarly, Wooyoung felt the same kind of serenity— a break from the constant scheduling, sketching, and client meetings.

“So…you wouldn’t possibly be interested in a date, would you?” San’s mouth worked faster than his brain. He didn’t expect those words to flow so easily out his mouth— but they did, anyway.

“You know…after you recover…and everything,” he continued.

“Whoa! I thought for sure he’d ask you first!” Yeosang said, rapidly looking between the two of them.

Wooyoung looked as if he was about to fly away from his position on the couch. San swore he’d never seen a smile get that big— there was something so mesmerizing about the peculiar boy that sat beside him. It was winsome— he’d finally met someone that could maybe like him as much as he liked them.

“Omg. I’d love to!” was Wooyoung’s only response.
