Anna stepped outside the barn, catching her breath. The young man was inside, looking at the bag of supplies she had bought him, deciding if it was worth leaving now.
He didn’t recognize her, or she was fairly certain that he didn’t recognize her. She thought he looked familiar inside the shop, but now that she saw him with the reindeer, she knew it had to be him.
She heard him coming, and she stood to attention, as if it was a schoolmaster coming into the room for lessons.
“Let’s go,” he announced, walking toward the sleigh nearby. His reindeer trotted after him.
Sven, that was the reindeer’s name. Anna remembered.
“Thank you, Kristoff,” she said.
He stopped and turned around. “How do you know my name?”
“I guess you don’t remember me?” she sighed.
“No, I remember you,” he admitted. “But I didn’t know you knew my name.”
“Oh,” Anna mumbled.
Hadn’t she called him by his name? No, of course not. They weren’t supposed to talk to each other; that was the rule. Nobody had said she couldn’t talk to Sven, and he would respond for the reindeer.
Kristoff was very quick about hitching up the sleigh, and soon they were rushing through the woods.
“So, why’d your sister run away?” Kristoff asked.
