Chapter Text
He was foolish! How can he make such a mistake?
Engaging the mosquito queen head-on without analysing it was a mistake he never made in his younger days. But the anger in his heart was burning up; his hatred for the mad cyborg that destroyed his town had clouded his thoughts, making him reckless in his battles. The victories he had went over his head and now he had regretted this. To think this is how he will die! And he hasn’t even had his revenge to the mad cyborg yet.
Twisted metal began flying out of his body as the monster continued in her relentless attack. He was spinning in the air, being forced up, down, and sideways by the attacks. He felt powerless to do anything as he began to fall back to the ground.
But he can still do something. He can take the queen with him.
‘I’m sorry doctor. I have no choice but to blow myself up.’ Genos apologetically thought as he prepared to activate the self-destruct mechanism installed inside his body. But before the mosquito girl reached him, a hand suddenly appeared and pushed her away, knocking her to a building and splattering her before the building snapped into two.
It was the naked stranger.
“Man I hate mosquitoes” he heard the stranger say.
Genos can’t believe what he saw! The mosquito queen went down (or straight up flew after crashing through a building) in one hit no less.
He watched as the stranger dusted off his hands and walk away from the scene, unabashed that he’s naked and looking like he’s satisfied. Awed at the extraordinary strength the stranger showed, Genos decided he must learn how to become this strong, no matter what and how it takes.
He called out to the stranger, crawling with his good hand and was relieved when the man seemed to notice his presence. “Please wait a minute! I am a cyborg of justice! People call me Genos! Can you tell me your name?” He asked.
“Eh? My name…?” The stranger asked. He went silent for a few seconds, as if pondering.
“It’s…”He paused. A look of irritation crossed his face as he looked around for an invisible enemy. Without warning, he jumped around and ran as if chasing something. “Come back here you little shit!” The man yelled as he ran away.
Genos was dumbfounded as he watched the man slap at nothing, all the while buildings crashed and crumbled around him.
“Please allow me to be your disciple!” He can only beg as the man was running away. He has to grab this chance! He crawled using his good arm, trying to catch up with the stranger who defeated the monster in one hit, but was unable to do anything but watch as person’s figure got smaller until he can no longer see him with his one good eye.
That guy never even told his name.
“Wait! At least tell me your name!”
A few days after the scuffle with the mosquito monster, he tried to search that man but having no information at all made it difficult. Aside from being bald, he cannot even describe what he wore and people would incredulously stare at him whenever he asks. So he gave up on searching and decided to find the source of the monsters suddenly appearing in the abandoned parts of Z city. Although he lost his left arm and eye, he managed to defeat the beast king and get information from the other.
He learned that they were sent to capture the person who killed mosquito girl. At least that confirms the stranger lives in Z-city.
After showing who’s stronger to the gorilla, he helpfully (after threatening to prolong his suffering if he won’t speak) pointed out where their base of operation is but was disappointed when he claimed that he was the only cyborg in the group. So he took out his frustruations by incinerating the gorilla and the other monsters in the area.
As much as he wants to find the stranger, the house of evolution must be destroyed first else innocent people will be harmed. But first he has to fix his damaged parts before confronting them. He hopes that Dr. Stench won’t scold him for destroying his parts again.
Two days later, he found the building the armored gorilla pointed out after searching in the forest. A pristine building in a forest, it blatantly stood out from the scenery instead of hiding it from the world. He rushed to the front part of the building and without further ado, incinerated it with his cannons. That should take care of the problem.
He was about to leave when he can sense signals approaching to his direction, or more specifically, towards the building he incinerated. Genos cursed himself that he didn’t realize that there were more outside of the base. So he hid and waited for the enemies to show up. A few minutes later, cars were driving towards the destroyed building and men in black suits are surrounding the entire area.
‘They must be the House of Evolution forces’ he thought as he watched some of the men lift up the debris and open a hidden vault.
Cursing himself for not thinking that they may have an underground base, Genos moved and followed the men, moving quietly staying out of their line of vision to avoid being detected. The stench of decaying flesh didn’t bother him in the slightest as they got closer the entrance of the hall. He hid within the shadows and watched as they inspect all the corpses with in the room. But he can’t help looking at the big puddle of blood within the entrance of the room where he is hiding.
“Are you the one who destroyed the house of evolution?” a voice called out behind him.
‘Shit!’ he cursed as he realized he let his guard down again. Pointing out his arms in case of a fight, he turned around to see a middle-aged man. Upon seeing that the man is defenceless, Genos puts out his blasters and faced the man. “Who are you” he asks instead.
The man seemed doesn't seem to be unfazed by him. “We are from the Hero Association. We are currently investigating the cause of the mosquito outbreaks and leads pointed here. although it seems that the house of evolution was totally wiped out." the man pointed to the destruction within the room.
Genos decided not to say anything.
A minute of uncomfortable silence later, the man reached to his pocket and held out a card. "Our cameras caught you destroying the building a while ago. And it looks like you've defeated all the members of the evolution by yourself." he said as the men beside him showed the video of him decimating the upper building.
Genos wordlessly took the card.
"We would like you to join the ranks of our heroes” the man explained as Genos was reading the card.
Shicchi, Minister Officer of justice. Heroes Association Representative
Ah… that association that protects people from monsters, he remembers. He remembers Dr. Stench telling him all about this association in the past. The doctor asked him if he wanted to be a hero but he refused, wanting nothing but to defeat the mad cyborg with his own hands.
“I’m not interested…” he merely stated as he tried to return the card. “This has nothing to do with me and I’m busy.”
Shicchi sighed, but did not take back the card “In that case, we will still keep the offer open just in case you change your mind. Feel free to ask us questions.” With that all the men turned back and went out of the building, leaving him alone in the corpse-filled room. He examined the room for a bit, noticing body parts strewn around in the floor and marks that suggest that a fight happened. But the most curious thing is a pair of horns next to the big pile of blood and flesh in the middle of the room.
Now that he thought of it, maybe that stranger was a member of the association. He recalls hearing stories of heores saving the day by defeating these monsters. Thinking back, he heard that someone called King destroyed a giant in B-city. Judging by how the mosquito queen was defeat, that feat can plausibly be achieved by the stranger. If that’s the case…
Maybe this guy is King.
But he shouldn’t jump to conclusions yet.
“I’ll consider it…” he said to no one as pocketed the card and finally left the room.
