Goldenhour watched with sympathy as Bluefur led her remaining 2 kits towards RiverClan, pausing to gaze longingly back at the kit she had lost to the cruel leafbare night. The grief-stricken she-cat then continued on through the paw-numbing snow that glittered under the faint, cold glow of the crescent moon. Then, she was out of sight. Goldenhour waited, and watched as Mosskit’s spirit lifted from the frail bundle in the process of being buried by snow.
Goldenhour glided towards the frightened, confused kit, who cowered as she saw her. “W-who are you? Why did Bluefur leave me?” The kit cried.
“My name is Goldenhour..” she whispered. “Fate has decided that you will not accompany your siblings on their trek to RiverClan.. I am here to guide you to StarClan.”
“But..” the kit murmured. “But.. How could I die? It’s not fair! Mistykit and Stonekit made it, why couldn’t I?” she mewled, before drooping her head.
Goldenhour hesitated. “ You see.. Some things happen, no matter how unfair they seem. ” she continued, “ Not all is lost; you won’t be alone in StarClan. Many kits have died before you, and they will rejoice to see a new cat like them. ”
“Really..?” she sniffled, looking back up at the cat in front of her.
“I do not tell lies. Come with me, dear Mosskit.” She levitated off of the ground: a power only StarClan cats were granted, then bounded towards the stars.
“W-wait..! I can’t fly like you! Please, don’t leave me alone!” The she-kit wailed.
Goldenhour turned and smiled warmly at her. “ What do you mean? Of course you can fly. You’re doing it now! ” She tried to lighten the kit’s mood with humor. Mosskit looked at her paws, surprised to see they were no longer touching the ground.
“Woah! I can fly anywhere now!” Gleefully, she followed Goldenhour as the warm-glowing spirit continued her ascension. As they burst through the clouds, StarClan came into view. It was beautiful. Cats walked its grounds, hunted, ran alongside each other here. None of them suffered the cold weight of leafbare’s snow. As Mosskit looked around, she saw some cats were more see-through than others.
“Wait here.. ” Goldenhour spoke, before running off in search of the other kits. She found them quickly. Wishkit, Hopekit, and Badgerfang were all playing a game of tag with each other.
“Kits, you have a new friend! ” They all immediately paused their game.
“Someone new to play with? What’s their name?” Badgerfang asked excitedly, running up to Goldenhour.
“Follow me. I shall let her tell you herself. ” She returned to Mosskit, the other kits following in her pawsteps.
“Finally!” she mewed, “You took soooo long!” She looked at the kits following Goldenhour, which immediately went up to her.
“Hi! I’m Wishkit! This is my sister, Hopekit, and our friend, Badgerfang!” Wishkit exclaimed.
“Badgerfang? But that’s a warrior name! You’re only a kit!” Mosskit teased. Goldenhour sighed as she watched them. She missed her living days, even more so the few moons as a kit.
Goldenhour’s task was done. She could rest for now.
