Tomorrow

Summary:

Tomorrow I will wake up.
Tomorrow I will see the sun as it rises.
Tomorrow I will watch as everyone goes on as normal.
Tomorrow I will still be alive.
But you’ll be gone

Notes:

I’m new to writing, so feedback would be amazing.
Also, I’m very melodramatic, but what can you do?
None of this is real, just something I have been sitting on for a while.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

The sun filtered through the wide windows from the back of the church. Highlighting the glistening tears that flowed messily down the faces of the church goers. Every body was clad in dark clothing. Faces grim with despair and sorrow. Heads bent in prayer. The voices of the choir melancholy, yet sounded like a base through the quiet room.

He felt suffocated. The once joyous people, now seemed devoid of life. Haunted and empty, was the only way to describe the atmosphere. There was no one that did not shed a tear, except for him. He had cried for days leading up to this moment. Hoping that if he cried hard enough, he would forget what had happened or wake up from this nightmare. But, this wasn’t a bad dream, it was his reality. It was everyone’s reality. No quirk, no miracle, no magic could undo this event.

Once the choir stopped singing, the priest began to speak, snapping the young man out of his thoughts. The priest stated that if anyone had anything to say, now was the time. The silence only grew as the priest finished talking. It echoed, as if people thought if they didn’t move that everything would be okay. So they stated put.

Shaking slightly, he rubbed his hands on his starched pants, the nicest ones he owned, and he stood up. Shuddering sobs and sighs filled the room as he began his ascent to the alter, where another young man lay.

He trembled as we walked. The isle seeming to get longer the closer he got to the casket. It was open. The smooth skin, now lifeless. A shell of what once was. It had frightened him the first time he had seen the boy. It had looked nothing like the man he remembered. This man was far too stoic, lacked the volatile emotions and confident grin. An unfamiliar expression remained on the otherwise unmarred face; a constant reminder of what they had lost.

As he finally reached the steps of the alter, he turned to the windows. Unsure of what he was looking for, he continued up the stairs and took the microphone from the priest. He took a deep breath. Holding in the air before releasing again, hoping that it would take the tremors from his body and give him the confidence to speak. After one final breath he fully faced the pews of saddened people and began to talk.

“Tomorrow I will wake up.
Tomorrow I will see the sun as it rises.
Tomorrow I will watch as everyone goes on as normal.
Tomorrow I will still be alive.
But you’ll be gone.

You’ll never feel the sun ghost upon your skin, again. Or the wind running through your pale hair.
You’ll be gone.
You will have gone too far for me, or anyone else, to catch up. And you know I always tried kacchan.

I’m stuck. Stuck in the same place I’ve always been. Stuck watching as the whole world moves forward, while we who held you dear seem to fade away as well.
No one smiles quite as bright. Kirishima, especially, doesn’t smile like he used to, it’s strained and painful,
merely a shadow of who he once was. Denki and Mina no longer have that light, that happiness, in their eyes. And Sero’s eyes seem to be red more often than not; filled with pain and sorrow.

Each one answers the phone quicker, breath hitching with a sigh when the voice on the other end is not what we wanted.

Why’d you leave me? Why’d you leave us? We love you. I love you please come back.

If I could have one more minute, do you think I’d be happier or would I have one more minute to miss? One more memory that haunts me?
I’m glad we got to be a part of each others lives and I’m sorry that I never picked up the phone to tell you how I felt. To spend time with you.

We may never be the same. We may fall victim to sadness and grief, but we will miss you more than you’ll ever know.

I hope you sit at a large table and are reunited with the ones you have lost. Save me a seat, you’ll be waiting a while, but one day I will see you again. Life is short, but now I will live for you and myself. Know that I will keep you with me wherever I go.

I will never get to say it again face to face, but I love you and always will.

- Love, your Deku”

As he finished reading the letter, hands trembling, he looked up into the sea of crying people and spotted his family and friends. They were grouped together towards the front. Each trying to comfort one another through their own tears. They had been robbed of a friend, child, nephew, student, love. There was nothing that could bring him back. The young boy was gone and everyone had to face the truth. No one would get another second with Katsuki. Now they only had the memories to hold on to.

Midoriya had thought he no tears left to cry. That he had simply run out because of the previous several weeks. He had lost a childhood friend, his rival, his soulmate. When the news had broke of Katsuki’s death, everyone had given him the time to grieve; but, now it was his turn to be strong. Be the shoulder for someone else to cry on.

Taking one last look at the coffin where his young friend lay. He took a deep shuddering breath, closed his eyes, and whispered a final goodbye. He was scared. Alone for the very first time, katsuki no longer by his side. This was it.

Once again turning towards the crowd he gave a smile. Watery, but sincere. It would take time, but things would be okay. Kacchan could rest easy now. Izuku would make sure of it.

Notes:

I will probably/eventually rewrite this. I just wanted to get some ideas out there. Shrug.
