Chapter Text

[bakageyama :p] When Kageyama opened his locker, Hinata wasn’t surprised to see a few letters fall out of it. Kageyama didn’t need to check what they were either, it was obvious—they were love letters, a means of confession of one’s “love”. Hinata looked at the letters then rolled his eyes and muttered something under his breath. Every time Kageyama encountered this sort of thing, Hinata had the same reaction but Kageyama never really put that much thought into it. So, as usual, he casually tossed the letters into a bin without even batting an eyelid. The sound of the school bell echoed through the hallway, signalling the end of school. Hinata stole a small glance at Kageyama before running off towards the gym. Without hesitation, Kageyama immediately started after him.

Practice was as usual. Except , of course, the fact that Karasuno had a surprise audience. A group of girls to be exact. Probably Kageyama’s fangirls.

In the middle of practice, Tanaka approached Kageyama and patted him on the back before saying, “Man, you’re really lucky aren’t you? With your height and good looks. The girls are all over you!”

Hinata heard him and whipped his head in their direction. He made a strange expression that Kageyama couldn’t read—Hinata’s brows were furrowed and his lips pursed. Kageyama could tell he didn’t look like his usual self but he still didn't know what Hinata was feeling. Which Kageyama himself wasn’t surprised about. He never really understood, well… people in general. It was difficult to read into every facial expression they make and immediately know what emotion they’re feeling. It was especially difficult for him but for his senior, Sugawara Koushi, it all seemed so easy. Despite his lacking social skills, even Kageyama could see that everybody in Karasuno trusted Sugawara. Not just as a person, a senior, a friend, but also as a setter on the court. Kageyama felt that to improve as a setter, he too needed to earn his teammate’s–no, his friend’s trust. To be able to know what he was feeling. So, Kageyama decided to try and talk to Hinata, to truly talk to him. Another pat (nahh, more like hit lmao) in the back from Tanaka pulled him back to reality.

Practice ended as usual. The group of giggling and squealing girls made their way to Kageyama to praise and fawn over him. Usually feeling awkward and not knowing how to respond,Kageyama merely gave curt nods silently. His eyes started wandering around the gym to look for an excuse to leave. That’s when he noticed Hinata’s eyes darting back and forth from him to the group of girls. When Hinata realised that Kageyama was looking right back at him, he flushed ruby red and turned away, which confused Kageyama even more, and god he really wanted to ask him why.

[hinata :D] Hinata could not have been any more embarrassed then he was at that point of time. When Bakageyama’s black eyes, darker than a starless night, were pouring into him, he could have sworn a shiver ran down his spine. He could even feel his face burn. Why did he feel that way seeing all those girls crown around despite knowing how popular he was? Why did he feel so goddamn… uncomfortable? But now that Hinata thought about it, hints of this feeling had always been in him. Ever since they first met in his first middle school match. It only now came to light. So intense that Hinata couldn’t think about anything or anyone else. In the first place, Hinata’s only Kageyama’s friend—wait, does Kageyama even see him the same way? What right does he have to feel this way? All the thinking was starting to make Hinata’s brain hurt. He decided to just avoid Kageyama altogether. So when Daichi treated them to pork buns at Coach Ukai’s family convenience store, Hinata only took two buns for himself and passed the large brown paper bag to Nishinoya. Which was quite unlike Hinata, normally trying to hog them all to himself. Nobody seemed to notice this change. Nobody except Bakageyama, the very person he had been avoiding, started walking towards him. Panic began to rise inside.

[bakageyama woohoo :p] Kageyama was determined to find out why Hinata had been reacting the way he had been ever since… ever since when? Had it only started this afternoon when he opened his locker and was greeted with love letters? Or had it started way before? It was frustrating. Plus, it was so obvious that Hinata was avoiding him. Kageyama felt that the more he didn't know, the more he dwelled on it. Though, one thing about himself that he didn't know the answer to was the reason he was so disturbed by this. If anything, he should be glad that Hinata has finally gotten off his back. With the endless bickering, quarrelling and fighting. Kageyama should be glad to get a rest from it all but he wasn't. He tried thinking about an average school day without arguing with Hinata or without racing with him to get to places but he just couldn’t. Then, he compared it to a regular day with all the chaotic mess of interacting with Hinata. Kageyama was shocked (bahhaaha shook) to discover that he preferred that disastrous mess of everyday life compared to mundane and peaceful days.

Do I prefer to be in his company? Wait, what am I thinking? That is so stupid and weird and strange and confusing… (behold da gae panik in our bakageyama *inserts evil laughter)

He began to walk towards the ginger. The panic in Hinata’s eyes was so obvious that Kageyama’s gut twisted in guilt. Maybe Kageyama’s the reason Hinata’s been so disoriented. When the thought popped up in his mind, he abruptly made a sharp turn just before reaching Hinata.

[ninja shoyo but teenager :D] Hinata definitely noticed this.

What was that? Did he change his mind last minute? WHY IS HE AVOIDING ME? What did I do? Shit, did he notice the way I was acting? Owdich3oj0wepwcdjj (MORE gae panik)
