Plague of Sap

Summary:

As sickness covers Earthbread, Pure Vanilla decides to take it out from the source

Chapter 1: Prologe

Chapter Text

The forest was silent as the great god’s closest follower stood before him, covering his mouth with a thick cloth. Standing before the god had changed in the past few months from a few feet in front of him to 20 feet from him. Getting any closer meant catching the rot.

“Great Tree…” The follower started, speaking as loud as he could. “Please explain-!” Millennial Tree looked down on the cookie, in confusion, maybe even disgust. The cookie stammered for a moment. “Even if this plague isn’t your fault, you can stop it! We’ve been asking- begging! Please just help us! We can count the cookies left in our village!”

The Tree sat silent for a moment, his expression unchanging. Finally, he had turned on his hooves and walked away from the cookie. The only remnant that could be seen from the forest was the green glow that lined his arms, and the cookie stayed til that was gone too. As he realized that this was the god’s answer, the cookie walked away, combing the chocolate out of his hair as he quietly sobbed.

“Sir, please,” the head castle nurse said. “I hate seeing you without White Lily too but you must leave before you get sick too.”

Pure Vanilla towards his wife sadly. Lily met his eyes with a tired smile from her bed and slowly waved. “I miss walking with you in the garden…” he told her.

White Lily gave a hoarse chuckle. “And I miss walking, but I’d prefer for you to keep the use of your legs while you still can my love,” she said before kissing two fingers and moving them towards her husband.

One of the nurses guided Pure Vanilla out the door, and as it shut he could hear the queen being thrown into another coughing fit. He huffed as he removed the protective garments he was wearing.

“I can’t stand seeing her like this,” he muttered to himself. “Where did this plague even come from..?”

“There are rumors that the god of nature brought it upon the cookies,” the nurse said.

“‘God of nature’? Millennial Tree? I thought he was all merciful…”

“We all did, and he may be. It’s only a rumor.”

If a god is behind it, it can probably be stopped… ” Pure Vanilla thought to himself as he walked to his study.

A few weeks later, the other three healthy ancient cookies had arrived at the castle, at the request of Pure Vanilla’s letters. Which also had details of his plan.

“Vanilla, are you sure you’re alright?” Hollyberry asked, holding up her envelope.

“Perfectly fine,” he muttered.

“Your plan to fight a god says otherwise,” Golden Cheese said. “Seriously, what is going through your head right now?”

“Ending this plague… Hopefully saving Lily too…”

Pure Vanilla was slowly wrapping bandages around his arms, looking at the floor.

“These are just rumors…” Dark Cacao muttered.

“Still… He should have the power to stop this.”

Hollyberry hummed for a moment. “I suppose I can’t argue with that.”

Golden Cheese huffed. “Alright ok, but how are we supposed to get into the forest of the Millennial Tree? You do realize how heavily guarded it is right?”

“Well aware but we’ll plan as we go.”

“Alright fine, whatever, what could go wrong?”
