The Star, the Sun, the Earth and the Moon

Summary:

Sirius is the stars, James is the sun, Peter is the earth and Remus is the moon <3

Work Text:

While they all hung in place by gravity, they were so different in so many ways. Sirius, the star, was, to put it simply a star. The stars are a beautiful piece of art in the sky and that was so Sirius. He was named after a star in the Canis Major constellation after all. In Ancient times, Canis Major was regarded as one of the important constellations because the brightest star in the whole sky was one of the stars in the constellation. The Dog Star, Sirius, the brightest star in the night sky. The stars are so far out of reach that if you ever get the chance to see one up close you are very lucky. Sirius shined whenever light from the sun would reflect off him.

The Sun being James, of course. In outer space, there is no off switch for the Sun. It was always on, always shining in every way it could. The Sun never went out, it was a performance that never stopped, a deer that never stopped running from the predator. The Sun brought warmth to the universe in the same way a fireplace did on a cold winter day. The Sun was safe, always there and never needed anything. Without the Sun, life itself would cease to exist, that’s how James’s friends felt about him. And that was the pressure that James put on himself.

Peter was the Earth. Providing everything anyone needs. The mom friend in a way. Always giving whatever others need and never being the center of attention. Although he was always needed, he craved the recognition that the Sun and the Stars got. The others in the Solar System make sure the Earth knows the significance of itself but the Earth finds it hard to believe when it has been told the opposite its whole life. People assumed he would always be there, steadfastly on their side. However, as time passed and Peter grew weary, the dynamic shifted much like the Earth's response to human exploitation of the environment it has generously provided.

And finally, there was Remus. Our Moony. The Moon is quiet, always giving tranquillity to the space it’s in. The Moon is always quietly there waiting for someone to point it out to their mother, but never hoping for it. The Moon is content with spending its days in the balance of the Earth and the Sun's gravity. The only other objects in the night sky that shine brighter than Sirius are the Moon, Venus, Jupiter and Mars. But the Moon didn’t have to beg for attention the same way the sun and the constellations did. It was happy to be a part of it all and give its option when it deemed necessary.

They all hung in space like a video on pause. Remus wishes this moment of content could last forever. But like all things, the peaceful moments turned to hateful nights dreaming of revenge he didn’t even know was false.
