Chapter Text

Swallowing your fear, you make your way up the ladder. As you get higher, your limbs start shaking, feeling weaker and less coordinated as you get further from the ground. Your foot even slips at one point before being swiftly corrected. You don't know why it's so nauseating, why it's becoming so hard to breathe. You're from Cascarrafa, after all! You kind of have to be ok with the idea of heights in order to live there.

Before no time, you're up, but you immediately throw your back against the wall. The edge is looking mighty unstable all of a sudden.

Sidling along to get the best 360... 270 degree...

...the most optimal view you can, you let out a breathless whistle as you finally stop and stare out upon the landscape in front of you. The home-y looking Artazon, the little sliver of Levincia's lights, the absolute majesty that is Glaseado Mountain... you even see another watchtower in the distance between Artazon and Levincia. You want to go higher, you want to see even more, but...

Okay, just a little higher.

You make the climb, only to poke your head up and awkwardly flinch upon seeing a treasure chest. You honestly weren't expecting anything to be up here, did it belong to anyone? You stare at the thing, before feeling a weird sense of dread when you realise-

-okay, maybe it's time to get down. There's nothing to really lean onto up here. You resign yourself to simply enjoying the view from the first platform.

Looking at the horizon, you realise something. Paldea... really is beautiful. Especially the town that the world-renowned Brassius presides over, Artazon. You'd been there before during your time enrolled at the academy, but...

...

...wait. Has the windmill ever been still before?

Notes:

Just wanted to get something out before the DLC for some reason. This story is basically an AU that doesn't really take the DLC into account, save for lore about the new Pokémon. Also, I KNOW this is labeled Existentialism, but it isn't like... heavy? It's hard to explain, just know some of the characters notice the things we do, but it's still a (mostly) lighthearted story about L O V E and connections and stuff. Also, I had to rewrite this intro SO MANY TIMES it's insane, lmFAO. I decided less is more, and the 'not really reveal' would be more interesting the way I decided to write it. Can't wait to get this party started!
