Work Text:
“Hey Revali!” L comes bouncing to his husband. Revali looks up from talking with Tulin about different practices. L waves with both hands, all smiles. “Hi, Tulin!”
“L!” Tulin gets up excitedly, and runs to L for a hug. Of course, L gives him one; he loves them. “L! Master Revali was just talking about how I can become an expert warrior like him!” Hearing this made Revali swell up with pride.
L claps his hands together and does a little hop. “That’s great! You’re a great warrior, and you will become even better!”
“Tulin is a great learner,” Revali adds. He wanted to say something nice about his apprentice.
“Oh, thank you…” Tulin looks down. “It’s only because I have the best teacher in the world.”
Revali lets a little smile escape. “Of course!”
“Thank you so much, Master Revali!” Revali nods in response. “I’m going to go tell Mom and Dad!” Tulin squeals before running off.
“That’s so cute,” L mentions, with the brightest smile on his face. Speaking of cute, Revali thinks that specifically about his husband. But he decides not to say it out loud because L already knows this, for sure.
Revali turns to L. “How was your day, so far?”
“Oh good!” There is definitely something on his mind.
Revali takes L’s hands that were conveniently in front of him to grab. “You’re so cold.” It often surprises the Rito how cold L could get, having no feathers and all.
L chortles, “Heh, it’s because I have been anywhere but your arms.” Goodness, he is so cute.
Revali titters. “Come here,” he says as he pulls L into a hug, letting the Hylian rest on his shoulder. He feels L let out a large breath. It’s probably of relief because he’s finally warmer. Revali definitely feels the cold nose on his neck.
After a while, L turns his head to look at Revali. “I want to show you something.”
“Oh?” It’s such a relief when L wants something.
“Yeah,” L leaves the hug. “I want to show you Tarrey Town.”
Revali lights up. L has been talking about helping build a small town in the Akkala region. It’s been many weeks, and finally it must have been completed. Revali very much wants to see what he has been up to!
“Show me!”
L tries hiding his face, blushing. “Yeah…”
“Are we flying there?” It wasn’t a genuine question. “Come on.” L hesitantly climbs on Revali’s back. Revali knows that it’s because, as L has mentioned in the past, that he doesn’t want to “use” Revali for travel. Perfectly understandable, but Hylians are dreadfully slow, and flying is faster.
“Hold on tight!” Revali says while performing his gale and shooting out into the sky.
They arrive at the entrance of Tarrey Town. “Look at it!” L exclaims, stretching his arms out with a bright smile on his face. Revali does look around. It’s bustling with activity. Children are running around in the sun. There is a peaceful feel to the air. The colorful houses surround the island, with little trees popping in between them. Revali has to admit it’s pretty and cozy.
He can tell a lot of work went into building this town. It was well-crafted, for sure. And L helped build it!
“It’s fantastic!” Revali says turning to L. Except he wasn’t beside him anymore! “Huh-?” Did he go ahead? Revali tries looking all over forward, until he looks back. L has moved towards the middle of the land-bridge, away from Tarrey Town. His shoulders are up and hands close to his face. Oh no. L’s upset. Sudden worry wash over Revali. He trots over to where L is standing, back away from the town.
“L.” Revali extends his wing over L’s shoulder to attempt at comfort. “L?”
L takes away his hands slightly, revealing his tears running down. Revali gasps silently. Nothing hurts more than seeing L cry, besides dying.
“Wh… what’s wrong?” Revali will try his best. He was not prepared to comfort L. He never is, and at this point, it doesn’t seem like he ever will.
Hugging his face, L says softly, “Can I even be proud of this if I didn’t even do anything?” The prideful Rito doesn’t know what to say. L sobs. “I brought wood, only.”
“Building materials?”
“Huh?”
“The wood you got for Hudson… they were building materials. You took the time to bring him wood,” Revali tries to put it into perspective. It stopped his husband from crying at least.
“Yeah?” L says, looking down.
“I don’t know why you can’t be proud you brought the materials to him, to help him build his town!” Revali says, standing straight.
“Yeah.”
“Also! Let me know if I am mistaken, but didn’t you help get people moved into this town? I saw you talk to Fyson, to convince him to open shop here!”
“True.”
“Tarrey Town would be empty without you! You can absolutely be proud!”
L titters. “I guess you’re right.”
“Of course,” Revali grins. L looks over his shoulder to see the colorful buildings and bright lights. “Tarrey Town would be empty without you,” Revali repeats. “You’re amazing, you know that, right?” It was important that L knew this information. The Hylian blushes. “Take it! You deserve the praise!” Revali wraps his wing around L’s shoulders. “Come on.”
He leads L back to the entrance of Tarrey Town. Revali spreads his free wing out. “Look at it!” And L does. He slowly moves his head from one end of the town to the other end. After a small hesitance, L spreads out both his arms.
“It’s completed and it’s nice!” He grins. He changes his posture to be more straight up. “I am proud of myself for helping build this town!”
“There you go!” That went well! “I’m proud of you,” Revali says softly. L turns to Revali with his bright smile that reach his eyes. “I love you.”
“I love you, too!” L says, and quickly gives Revali a kiss on the tip of his beak, which melts Revali. It would be great if L could be confident the entire time. And he should, because he’s the hero of Hyrule! But Revali knows L is working on it. And he wouldn’t change it for the world.
