Work Text:
The Pale King did not have many regrets. Why would he? The Hollow Knight plan was working, and there wasn’t exactly a better plan. `
He also did not regret moving his palace to the dream realm. Where else could he monitor the Radiance. The Pale King was not a fool, he knew that the Hollow Knight plan would only contain the old light, not destroy her.
His foresight saw that the old light would remain contained at least until the end of his own life.
His only regret was designing his palace’s security system. He knew that the saws would do nothing against the Radiance, as she could fly.
Maybe he feared a previously unknown follower of the Radiance attacking.
Maybe he wanted some control in this endless dream, and security was how he achieved it.
Maybe he was just bored.
But it didn’t matter why he made the security system, as it did not change the fact that one of his moving saws was barreling towards him. It did not change the fact that he tripped. It did not change the fact that another saw was coming at him from behind.
He was walking back to his throne after working on a passageway meant to trick intruders. He called it the path of pain. He just needed to add the floor, and it would have been complete.
Yes, the only regret that the Pale King felt in the last second of his life was making such a massive and elaborate security system.
The saws collided with the once dead wyrm, and he died for the second and final time.
