Work Text:

It starts off as a joke, like most things do when it comes to Mizuki. They’re laying side by side on Ena’s bed, far past midnight and embarrassingly out of breath. Ena feels a sense of calm wash over her, satisfied with the idea that Mizuki makes her feel safe. She can finally let her guard down.

They roll onto their back, kicking their legs playfully back and forth. A cheeky smile is on their face, and they start playing with their hair. Ena gets lost in the way the strands slip through their slender fingers, only to be caught again a few seconds later. She smiles back.

“What’d you do to get so pretty?” Ena says shyly. Flirting is still something she’s struggling with.

Mizuki grins. “Sacrificed my humanity. Oh, and makeup.”

Ena rolls her eyes, stiffly crossing her arms.

“Enanan! Don’t turn away from me!” They squeal, latching onto her arm and shaking her.

“Fine! Just stop shaking me, you weirdo.” Ena decides. She tries to pack some punch into the words, but really, she’s not even annoyed. It’s mostly just a game they play now, unless Mizuki says something particularly outrageous.

They cosy up to her immediately, tucking their face into her chest. They whine about how flat of a pillow she is, so she gives their hair a tug until they’re quietly resting against her.

“So, I was thinking…” she starts, “for our next date… when I was walking to school, I noticed a new lolita store opened. Maybe we could head there and then hang out at a cafe nearby.”

“Ena, how considerate! Do you see me in everything you lay eyes on now~?”

“Be quiet and stuff your face in my tits. Can’t I see things you’d like and mention them to you? Is that so weird?” Ena huffs. They always have to make such a big deal about her being nice! Ena’s a nice person, ok? She’s affectionate to the people she loves!

Mizuki drops their head back down. “No complaints here. Thank you, ma’am.”

“And don’t call me ma’am. It makes me feel old.” She complains.

“But you are my senior, Enanan!” Mizuki giggles.

“Not by enough to be put in a seniors home.”

They smile, propping their head up so the two can be face to face.

“Well, Oba-chan, if you’re not a grandma like you say, how bout you prove it?”

Ena narrows her eyes. “What are you implying?”

“My friend An’s a street musician. Her and her group perform almost every week. How’s about we mix it up and go see them? Unless it’s too cool for an old lady like Ena~!” They chirp.

“Stop calling me old!”

And anyways, that style of music has always been Akito’s thing, and following the sibling code, anything he’s into is automatically lame. Wait, he performs too. Surely it’s not the same group, right?

It was the same group.

The venue itself is admittedly cool, with stickers and posters and stylistic graffiti everywhere. When no one’s watching, so she doesn’t look like a tourist, she snaps some pics of the art. Inspiration hits Ena at the weirdest of times, and it’s always helpful to have a reference on hand.

Latching onto Mizuki’s hand, they weave through the tight knit crowd together. Unlike what she was expecting, the crowd is surprisingly diverse. It’s not limited to one age group or click, it seems like people of all kinds come here to enjoy the music, genuinely. The atmosphere is electric, and the musicians haven’t even started playing yet!

The current band on stage is hooking up their gear, grinning ear to ear with excitement. Ena curiously asks if this is Shiraishi’s group, and Mizuki shakes their head.

“I think she’s on next.” They say. In the neon lighting of the club, they look infuriatingly gorgeous. They agreed to let Ena braid their hair to the side, instead of their usual side ponytail. Their makeup has hints of subtle blue, a fun look for this kind of setting. Bold, but somehow, they still pull it off, matching the hue with a blue mini dress, and pink accessories to match their hair.

If Ena weren’t down so bad, her jealousy definitely would’ve ruined the night, especially after seeing how slim Mizuki is. But lately, she’s been learning how to embrace her own body, and it’s hard to get mad at someone who stupidly loves you deeply.

The adrenaline is definitely getting to her. She forgets to worry about how others are perceiving her, and she focuses on the enthusiastic environment. And on Mizuki, of course, who pulls her in by the waist, draping their arms around her neck, as if they’re slow dancing. The band starts playing; they’re an intense mixture of classic rock, punk, and electro. Half way through, they surprise the audience by breaking out into a rap verse, which gets everyone cheering and dancing along to the music.

By the end of the song, they’re both slightly sweaty and definitely euphoric. Normally Ena wouldn’t be so courageous, but her emotions are getting to her, and the crowd seems so preoccupied with the music, that she leans in, kissing Mizuki square on the mouth.

She feels their lips quirk up slightly under her own, a tell tail sign Mizuki finds this deeply amusing. But when she pulls away, even under the bright lights, she can see the blush coating their cheeks. She caught them off guard; one point for Ena.

The band’s set is varied and enthralling, and never fails to keep everyone entertained. Among the crowd, Ena hears delighted praises, and joyful laughter. During the next few songs, she lets her worries slip away, and laughs loudly when Mizuki spins her around every pre-chorus.

Ok, she’ll admit it. This was a great date idea, and they haven’t even seen Mizuki’s friend perform yet!

The set ends to rowdy cheers, and Ena can’t help but join in. They thank the audience for coming, packing up their equipment swiftly. That’s when the murmurs start.

“Isn’t Vivid Bad Squad up next?”

“Yeah, they’re playing tonight!”

“Those kids are pretty good for a couple of rookies.”

“Woah, that’s Ken’s daughter you’re talking about! She’s hardly an amateur, music runs in her blood!”

“True, when she performs on the street, no one can pass by her without stopping for awhile.”

Mizuki grins, bouncing on their feet. It’s a cute habit. Ena leans close.

“Is that your friend they’re talking about? She must be really good.” Ena comments, earning an adorable rapid nod.

Suddenly, Mizuki’s phone goes off. Their cute grin is whipped off their face, replaced with disappointment.

“Shit, I can’t believe-“ they begin, but the crowd roars over them, signaling their attention to the stage. And quickly, her worst nightmare comes true.

Her little brother struts confidently to the stage, stopping at the center. His partner is by his side- Touya, she’s pretty sure, and he’s looking oddly expressive, and not in a good way. He’s frowning.

“Yo, everyone.” He says, getting some excited cheers in response. “I’ve got some bad news tonight- one of our members- An has come down with a cold. That means unfortunately all of Vivid Bad squad won’t be performing tonight.”

There’s some, “Awwws,” and even a few, “Booos,” but Akito doesn’t let it get him down.

He smirks. “If you think we’re gonna leave you without a badass performance, you’re dead wrong! Tonight, we’re gonna make you scream.”

Ena rolls her eyes. He’ll hardly be able to make her scream; she’s seen him go through puberty. Nothing is more terrifying than that.

Mizuki pulls on her hand, practically buzzing with energy. “See that, Enanan! Lil’ bro’s gonna give us a show!”

They clearly find this hilarious, much to Ena’s chagrin. It’s not like she hates seeing Akito perform (though it definitely doesn’t fill her up with pride or anything!) It’s just that she’s seen him a few times before, and honestly, there’s no mood killer like a younger sibling. And their date was going so well too! It was super romantic, until her nose-picking little brother showed up!

A song she doesn’t recognize starts playing through the speakers, and Mizuki picks up on the beat, nodding their head. The synth is intense, but not grating. It does a good job at hyping up the crowd, and a few people that like the song start cheering.

Things are going normally. Uneventful. Peaceful, even. It’s hard to stay mad at anyone in this place, when everyone’s so determined to have a good time.

Abruptly, Ena’s entire world view crumbles in a second. Any good faith she has remaining is crushed, along with her optimism.

Akito moans, and the night is officially ruined.

It doesn’t stop. It doesn’t stop! He keeps going, sighing melodically, and it sounds like it’s right in her ear!

Ena is promptly horrified, and Mizuki is impossibly elated. They cackle uncontrollably, and it gets worse when they catch a glimpse of Ena’s face. Whatever expression she’s giving must be hilarious, because it starts the hysterics back up.

“Bite down from time to time, let me remember what pain feels like~”

Somehow, it gets worse when he’s singing and not moaning. Ena would’ve never thought she’d have that opinion. Secretly, she likes her little brother’s voice, and enjoys hearing him sing. GENERALLY.

“Stain my entirety with that overflowing fluid.”

Mizuki hums along, a shit eating grin on their face. They hold Ena’s hands and sway their arms back and forth, and Ena, of course, doesn’t reciprocate this action.

She lets out a full body shudder.

“What fluid?! What the hell?! No fluid, no fluid!” She yells, completely aghast. How do you even react to something like this? Disgust? Disgust.

Mizuki laughs so hard they lean against her, using her body as support.

Thankfully, Akito trades off with Touya, who handles the next few verses. It’s a brief refuge from the hell Ena’s been indoctrinated into.

“Drowning in the sensations made to run up from, the tips of my toes, lead my body and heart~!”

Mizuki whispers into her ear, “I don’t think that’s the appendage that’s leading his body and heart~!”

They can barely contain their mirth.

“Ew, Mizuki, gross!”

Mizuki wolf-whistles, having the time of their life. This leaves Ena to stare in horror at all the sort of painful gyrations her baby brother now participates in!

She recalls his innocent face- when he was still cute and small and called her Onē-san. The adorable shy smile of her baby brother, and his chubby cheeks! He used to hide behind her when meeting strangers, always shy and polite. He’d stutter all the time in a cute way, like he was unsure of himself.

The chorus really gets everyone into it, and soon everyone’s dancing along and cheering. It isn’t too graphic, unlike what she’s been exposed to at the start, but still, the implication is there, and she finds no satisfaction from seeing through the innuendos.

Mizuki nudges her with their elbow, smiling a certain smile that erases all of Ena’s suffering. “C’mon, you gotta admit it’s pretty catchy.”

It is pretty catchy, but she’s never going to admit it.

“Your style is hidden away, but you should dive with it all laid bare~!”

Growing up, she’s seen him naked plenty of times. All this, “laid bare,” stuff wasn’t as cracked up as it ought to be. They shared baths and clothes- really he had guts singing that line! Because his ,”style,” wasn’t all that impressive.

“Matching the pace of our breathing, feeling your breath upon my ear~!”

So much for a subtle chorus. She’s pretty certain she’s holding back vomit, because she feels nauseous.

“A chest on the verge of exploding, cells going berserk~!”

Oh, cells weren’t the only things going berserk. Even in her shocked state, she knew Mizuki was never going to let him live this down.

“First you should kindly rip off this shirt I’m taking off, no worries~!”

“Lil’ bro~ so forward!” Mizuki chirps bashfully.

“In the midst of doing as you please, what you’re dreaming of, is it your true nature~?”

“I’m dreaming of this song ending.” Ena says mournfully. Her partner is oh so sympathetic, laughing at her pain.

The song picks up its pace, flowing easily into a few verses of rap.

“Cross your upper limits, engines full throttle and go~! BURN, BURN, BURN.”

Mid verse, he thrusts, and Ena is once again teleported into her memories.

She remembers their family’s version of, “the talk,” and sighs sadly, because the Akito that had such a disgusted and terrified expression after learning where babies come from is gone, replaced with this thrusting monster.

“What you want, yes it’s to get more of that great feeling~!”

She hates how self assured he looks, arrogant little bastard! Singing about sex when she knows for sure he’s still a pathetic little virgin.

From all the crashing emotions, she blacks out. That is until they’re moaning again, and this time Mizuki joins in, mocking their groans.

She flushes, and thanks whatever god is out there because they’ve stopped! The music is ending! Hallelujah!

Mizuki whistles again, then calls out, “Yeah! Get em’ Lil’ bro!”

Akito hears them from the stage, his head fatally whipping around, and then, they make eye contact. He knows. She knows that he knows- because his expression is priceless.

He tries to hide it, clearing his throat and explaining that that’s it for tonight, but he’s not very successful. Before Ena knows it, she’s being dragged out of the venue to the sidewalk outside.

She assumes a fetal position, crouching and tucking her head in her knees.

He’s gone. Her adorable baby brother is gone for good. This was the final nail in the coffin.

“What the hell are you two doing here?!” He shrieks.

Mizuki bursts out into uncontrollable giggling. “I didn’t know you had so much game, Lil’ bro!”

His cheeks redden immediately, and Mizuki lets out a shrill, “How cute!”

Ena’s positive that if Akito wasn’t actually a softie on the inside, Mizuki would be dead right about now. Touya manages to catch up to them outside, face a bit flushed from running.

“Touya-kun!” Mizuki says cheerfully. “Lil’ bro must make you feel reeeeeeally good if he’s breaking out into song about it!”

If it’s even possible, Akito turns a brighter red. Touya’s mouth hangs agape, his eyes racing between everyone before settling back on Mizuki.

“I suppose he does. Nothing feels better than performing beside Akito.” He responds innocently. This sends Mizuki into hysterics. Ena awakens from her chromatose state to chime in on the conversation.

“I don’t think that’s what they mean, Aoyagi-kun.”

“Oh.” He looks so downcast about this revelation Ena’s tempted to cheer him up- then she reminds herself she’s mourning- and therefore can’t offer any comfort.

She groans. “You used to call me Onē-san.”

Akito looks at her weirdly. “What’re you bringing that up for?”

She sobs into her knees. “My sweet little brother. Now he sings about fluids and thrusts at strangers during the night!”

“I’m going to kill you.”

“Akito, that’s not necessary.” Touya says.

She perks up suddenly, pointing her finger directly at her brother. “You’re a virgin! Why would you sing about stuff like that?! It’s basically lying!”

She can’t tell if he’s red from embarrassment or rage now. “You have NO idea if I’m a virgin or not!”

She pouts. “Well you’re certainly not holy anymore.”

“We’re not even religious!”

Meanwhile, Mizuki is laughing so hard they’ve fallen onto the ground. Touya was attempting to calm Akito down, but it seems he’s noticed the vulnerable state Mizuki is in, and places his jacket over their mid section, making sure no pervs catch a glimpse of their underwear.

“Why didn’t you tell me you were coming?! If I knew, we would’ve prepared a different set list!” Akito complains.

“I didn’t know you were playing tonight! Besides, I’m not even the one who wanted to come here! It was MIZUKI’s idea.”

Right, it was Mizuki’s idea. Both siblings seem to have the same realization, closing in on their target, who’s falling apart on the ground.

“Amia.” Ena says.

At the same time, Akito says, “Akiyama.”

Their laughing ceases, and their gleeful smile drops.

“Shit.”

The Shinonomes’ bolt into action, trying to catch the perpetrator. Mizuki flees behind Touya.

“Touya-kun, save me!”

Mizuki was band from choosing their dates for a month, and Ena went home with a sulking Akito. Half way into their walk, Akito escaped by saying he was going to sleep over at Touya’s. They agreed to direct their anger somewhere besides each other.
