bittersweet moments

Summary:

noah was a broke college student, and like most broke college students, he went out to find a job. any job. eventually, he was hired at a local coffee shop, but did he enjoy it? not in the slightest. noah didn’t like to complain, but he was still going to because it was the worst job in the world. he didn’t like most of his coworkers, he hated the long, tiring hours, and he hated dealing with people. if he had the opportunity to quit, he would’ve done so by now.

the only reason he stayed was because a frequent customer that he liked chatting with that made his day much more pleasurable; and because it paid the bills, that too.

Work Text:

the day started like any other, boring and bland and following a schedule. noah got up at six in the morning, went to his classes, got out at ten, and went to work his shitty job with shitty pay and shitty customers. sometimes he had school, sometimes he didn’t, but he always had work. needless to say, noah loved his life.

despite the mundaneness of his everyday life, noah didn’t mind it. he liked order and structure. everything happened for a reason, and that reason was because he set it up that way. he didn’t like his system to be disrupted or his whole game would be off. even the slightest inconvenience set him off, so he was sure to keep everything the same as he left it.

some people called bland and dull, like his coworker duncan who always missed his shift to go hang out with his stupid punk friends. noah didn’t care though, as if he would listen to some stereotypical delinquent. besides, he found himself to be quite interesting, and that’s all that matters to him.

it would’ve been a lie to say that noah didn’t feel empty, like he wasn’t missing a sense of fulfillment in his life. there was surely more to this, more than just some endless cycle of school, work, and sleep. he liked the orderliness of his life, but he also needed something more, something different.

not like he had time to even go out and search for that missing piece, he was too busy keeping himself alive that he barely had time to even indulge in his own hobbies anymore.

but perhaps what he wasn’t looking for wasn’t so out of reach afterall.

-

it was wednesday afternoon, one of the few days noah didn’t have to force himself to wake up at the crack of dawn to drag his tired ass to school. he did, however, still had to get up at nine in the morning to drag his tired ass to work. it wouldn’t be that bad if he was able to just go home and relax after work, but he was a struggling college student, of course that wasn’t his case. he had heaps of homework waiting for him back home, there was never a moment where noah wasn’t working on something. he wondered how he hasn’t passed out from exhaustion yet; sometimes he wished he did, at least then he would get a break.

noah walked into the coffee shop, his nose being assaulted with the strong scent of coffee beans, sugar and syrup. yuck. he groaned, already wanting to go back home and sleep for five hundred years. he headed into the back to get changed where he saw cody, one of his coworkers that he could tolerate.
“hey, noah!” cody greeted with a smile and a wave. he was way too happy at this time. “how are you?”
“what do you think?” noah grumbled as he got changed. “just look at me.”

his hair was all over the place, he had deep bags under his eyes, his eyes were red from the lack of sleep, he was slouching even more than usual, and if not for the tiniest bit of life in his eyes, most people would’ve thought he was a zombie. noah was normally more neat than this, and if he had the time to, he’d actually brush out his hair for once. but finals week was coming up, and he barely had time for a meal sometimes. he was just glad his roommate owen was a good cook and often reminded him to eat and drink water.

“oh…” cody winced and recoiled. “shit, finals?”
noah nodded and sighed. “this better all be worth it. fuck, i hate the college system.”
“don’t worry, i’m sure you’ll be fine!” cody beamed befores stepping out. “you got this, noah! i’m rooting for you!”
“that makes one of us..”

noah sighed again as he tied up his hair into a small ponytail. his hair wasn’t that long, but it was long enough that it bothered him. he really did need to get a hair cut, sometimes it itched the back of his neck. then again, he didn’t really care that much. he liked his unruly, mullet-like hair enough that he was going to keep growing it out.

as he continued to get changed, noah had to mentally and physically prepare himself for the day, shutting down his emotions and turning auto-pilot on. that was the only way he didn’t lash out at a customer for screaming at him for something that wasn’t even remotely his fault. he sighed for the third time in a row. he loved his job so much.

before he did though, noah wondered if he would show up again; he would never admit it, but he always hoped that he would.

-

the day went by slow as ever, with noah manning the cashier, taking orders, and handing them to gwen who worked the actual machine part. she was another one of his coworkers that he didn’t mind, he actually quite liked her. she understood his sarcasm and witty comments and was even brave enough to fire some back. they would’ve hung out outside of work, but neither of them had the time to, especially gwen since he was a science major. noah already thought his school work was hard, he couldn’t imagine the turmoil that she had to endure. he honestly respected her for the shit she put up with, he would’ve gone crazy long ago.

eventually, the clock hit twelve, which meant it was noah’s first break of the day- he only had two, so he cherished each one. it was also, unsurprising to no one, his favorite part of the day, because that meant he could actually sit down and breathe for once.

but just as he sat down, gwen poked her head into the room.
“hey, someone’s requesting for you,” she informed with a shrug. “sorry, man.”
“ugh,” noah groaned. how the hell can someone request a worker at a fucking coffee shop? still, he got up with a sigh and headed back out.

“what is it-” oh. it was him.
“hey there, guapo,” alejandro greeted with a flashy smile, his words still as charming and sweet as ever. “how’s it going?”
noah playfully rolled his eyes and scoffed. “as good as a minimum-wage, tired college student can be. how about you?”
“better now that i’m with you,” he flirted with his sultry, smooth voice, his bright, green eyes gazing into noah’s hazel ones.

noah could feel his cheeks warming up as red painted his tan skin, but he shook it off. he wasn’t going to let alejandro know that. after all, it was just a joke, he wasn’t being serious, it was just their little thing. noah sighed. it was just a joke.

“you gonna order something or what?” noah asked, tapping a few buttons on the screen. “i was on my break until you called me out.”
“oh, sorry, mi amigo,” alejandro apologized, straightening up as he looked at the menu. “i’ll have the mocha latte with extra foam and chocolate.”
“alright,” noah said with a nod as he entered it in, “anything else?”
alejandro hummed. “what do you usually drink?”
noah arched his brow. why was he asking? why did he care?

still, noah answered. “i just get black coffee with no sugar. i don’t like sweet stuff, and it keeps me awake.”
alejandro nodded and smiled. “i’ll take one of those as well.”
even more skeptical than before, noah entered it into the cashier. “uh, sure. is that all?”

“yes.”
“alright, that’ll be $9.72. i’m assuming you’ll be paying in cash as usual?”
alejandro chuckled and grinned. “you know me so well, chico.”
“well, it’s not like you haven’t been coming here almost every other day for two months,” noah teased, rolling his eyes again.

the two shared a laugh, and noah could feel his heart racing as he swooned over alejandro’s every word. to most people, love was beautiful and kind, and they would see falling in love as something sweet and natural. but noah didn’t have time for romance, let alone the experience to know what to do. he had a few partners, but most of them didn’t end well. besides, he didn’t even know if alejandro liked guys. it was too risky and tiring, and noah just wasn’t ready for all that; but even so, even as noah felt himself falling harder and harder for him, he didn’t seem to mind at all, he might even like it.

once alejandro went to take a seat, noah headed to the coffee machine where he met gwen. she was one of the few people that knew about his feelings and actually helped him realize that he liked him.
“hey, i can do it,” gwen offered, “go take your break.”
“no, it’s ok, i can do it.”
if it were anybody else’s coffee, noah would’ve said yes in a heartbeat and rushed back into the break room. but this was different, it wasn’t just anybody else’s, it was alejandro’s.

after retying his ponytail, noah rang the bell on the counter. he didn’t even need to call his name because he knew he would come up, and he did.
“thanks, muchacho,” alejandro said with a wink. “you are still on your break, yes?”
noah nodded and groaned, stretching his arms out. “yeah, and i desperately need one too.”
“well” - alejandro grabbed his drinks and gestured to where he was sitting - “you’re welcome to join me if you want. there is a black coffee with your name on it.”

noah wasn’t a big fan of going off the books. he had a set schedule. wake up, go to school when he needs to, go to work, go home, do homework, and sleep. everything happened for a reason, and that reason was him.

but maybe this was what he had been missing, what he has been subconsciously yearning for. it was something new, something different, something illogical, and usually, noah didn’t like that. like most people, he wasn’t fond of change.

but he was fond of alejandro. “sure.”

-

soon enough, noah’s break ended, and he had to go back to work. while he was busy talking to snobby teenagers with way too much money and accidentally burning himself, alejandro quietly worked on his college assignments, letting out a sigh or yawn every now and then. he sometimes even asked for a refill on his drink.

noah hadn’t realized it til now, but despite playfully bantering every time alejandro came in, that was the first time they actually sat down and talked. he learned about his favorite color, if he had any pets, what his major was, and what his secret to clear skin was: red, a bulldog and a siamese cat, literature, and frequent exfoliation. in return, he answered the same questions- green and blue, a gecko and golden retriever, history, and hoping that soap and water was good enough.

he was excited to hear about any part of alejandro’s life, but what he was most curious about was his major. at first glance, he didn’t take alejandro to be such a poet, but after getting to know him, it made sense. he had a way with words, he was sweet and charming, and he was in touch with all his emotions that he could vividly write them out in the stars.

alejandro also enjoyed writing short stories. sometimes he had them for assignments, other times he wrote them for fun to improve his writing skills. noah asked to read some since he was a huge fan of books, and alejandro promised that he would show them to him some time.

something else noah didn’t realize till now was that talking to alejandro was easy and comfortable, like it was second nature to him. it explained why he was so talkative and sarcastic in front of him when they had just met. alejandro wasn’t judgemental nor did he jump to conclusions. he was simply just a guy who liked to talk, listen and make snarky comments, and sometimes, that was enough for noah.

-

after what had felt like ages, noah’s shift was finally over, and he couldn’t wait to get home and wash the coffee scent off of him and finish up his homework. noah groaned at the thought of his college work, but at least his roommate would have something tasty whipped up from him. he couldn’t wait to have a taste of owen’s food after eating shitty week-old bakery sandwiches. they were far too expensive for what they tasted like.

as he walked out, taking his hair tie off, he noticed that alejandro was still in the same spot as he was in the afternoon, hunched over as his hands flew across his keyboard. noah wanted to go home more than anything, but he was also curious as to what alejandro was working on. he shrugged. guess owen’s amazing cooking had to wait.

“hey,” noah said as he tapped on alejandro’s shoulder, causing him to jolt.
“ay, dios mios, you scared me!” he yelped, his lips curling into a smile as he realized who it was. “can i do something for you, my friend?”
noah shook his head. “just wondering what you were working on. you’ve been here since the early afternoon. you do realize that it’s past six now, right?”
“yeah, i know, but i really need to get this done,” alejandro said, brushing his hair out of his face. “i’m having writer’s block right now though.”

“maybe i can take a look at it?” noah offered. “i mean, i think that i’m pretty good at telling when books are good or not, so maybe i can help. only if you want though.”
alejandro’s smile widened, the aura around him getting brighter. “yes, that would be lovely! thank you, chico, you are my savior!”

out of nowhere, kind of, alejandro wrapped his toned arms around noah, hugging him so tight he could feel his bones breaking. not that he cared though, he wouldn’t mind being crushed to death by arms like his. he normally hates physical contact, there were very few people that he let hug him and be this close to him; alejandro was an exception he guessed.

skimming alejandro’s rough draft, noah finished reading a five-page story in two minutes. he’s been reading ever since he was a born, so of course he could read at lightning speed.
“it’s good,” noah praised, tucking his hair behind his ear, “but there’s a few grammar mistakes here and there.”
he scrolled to the third page and highlighted a few lines. “this part was kinda hard to understand. there are too many flowery words. sometimes, less is more.”
“thank you!” alejandro beamed, quickly fixing his mistakes. “anything else, guapo?”
noah really did have to go home and search up what all these nicknames meant. with the very limited spanish he knew from middle school, the only thing he could understand was ‘chico’.

“well, the plot is also a little confusing and unrealistic. normally, that wouldn’t be an issue if it was about world-building. however, your relationships aren’t realistic. why does she go back to him? why does he keep letting her in? it's not like either of them are trapping the other. and why are the people around them so supportive? i can see where you’re coming from, but your readers will just get frustrated with how dense and flat your characters are. they lack critical thinking and are just annoying to deal with. they’re not likable, which can really make or break a story sometimes.”

after his whole spiel, noah realized that he had been rambling, and it would’ve been fine if it was praise, but the whole time, it was just him pointing out flaws. people usually got upset at him for being so blunt and honest. he didn’t like to sugarcoat things, and that often caused people to dislike him. if it were anybody else, he wouldn’t have cared. he wouldn’t even had offered to help. but it was alejandro, someone he cared about.

“oh, sorry,” noah apologized as he fiddled with his fingers, “it’s a good start, really, i just got really into it and wanted to help you improve-”
suddenly, he felt a large hand on his shoulder, gently caressing it. he looked to the boy next to him and was met with a warm smile.
“no need to apologize, my friend,” alejandro reassured, “i am glad you are helping me. your feedback is very appreciated.”
he grabbed his laptop and set it right in front of him. “please, if you have anything else you want to tell me, i will take them all into consideration and better my writing so that one day, you can read it and tell me that it truly is something worth reading.”

noah hated the pounding in his chest, the butterflies in his stomach, the red in his cheeks, and the way his brain turned into goo when he was with him. but he loved alejandro’s dashing smile, cute dimples, loving voice, and understanding compassion. he was letting himself get swept away by just some coffee shop regular, and he was ok with it.

-

days passed by, and days turned into weeks, and every time alejandro showed up, noah couldn’t help but feel his days getting better and better. the sun was dimmer, the birds were quieter, and the customers were tolerable. only a little bit, but that was more than enough. maybe it was just by chance that all these just started to happen at once, or maybe it was fate brought by alejandro. it was silly to think that, especially when he wasn’t one to believe in fate or anything like that. the life he leads is caused by the choices he makes, and he was a firm advocate of them. everything happened for a reason, and that reason was him.

but just this once, he might believe in fate if it was alejandro.

the two had gotten much closer ever since that moment, exchanging numbers and texting during classes. sometimes, when they had the time to, they’d talk on the phone about the randomest of things.

“did you know that a group of frogs is called an army?” noah informed with a soft hum. “frogs also have ears and eyes on the top of their heads.”
“interesting,” alejandro remarked, “you are quite knowledgeable.”
“well, when you read as much as me, you tend to pick up on a few things.” noah read almost everything. when he was in fourth grade, he read the dictionary for fun. he was that kid. he liked learning weird facts, like how some jellyfish are immortal and that they’re made up of ninety-eight percent water. all of these little facts occupied his mind, and now that alejandro was here, he was free to let them out.

to noah’s surprise, alejandro actually enjoyed hearing about them. others simply ignored him or called him a know-it-all, which he was, but he wished they would at least show interest. alejandro did though, and he could tell that it was genuine. so every now and then, noah would read up on random facts just to share them with alejandro. he had to admit, it was kind of stupid, but he liked hearing alejandro ask to tell him more, so he kept doing it.

they also got to know each other a bit better. although they asked each other some questions during noah’s break, it was just an introduction to their layered personalities and lives; they also started to talk more during his breaks.

“so, why history?” alejandro asked, taking a sip of his tea. “i find it fascinating that you would be so enamored with such a subject as most people would not.”
noah shrugged. “i don’t know. i mean, i’m good at other subjects, but history’s just cool to me. i think i just like learning about the past.”
alejendro hummed. “oh, so dinosaurs and all that?”
“yeah, and also the history of words and their roots and suffixes. i also really like greek and roman mythology.”
“i understand, the past certainly is full of mysteries,” alejandro acknowledged, “i am sure that you will be the one to uncover them.”

noah blushed a pink tint. he hoped alejandro didn’t notice. “i hope so. anyway, why literature? it suits you, just curious.”
“to be honest, i am not very good at reading,” alejandro confessed, clearly embarrassed. “but i have always been fond of the intricacies of writing and the way stories are told. i wanted to be able to create that myself.”

“oh, so you wanna publish a book or something?”
alejandro hummed. “yes, something like that. i personally quite enjoy poetry. being able to move someone with mere words and metaphors has been a dream of mine. i hope to fulfill that dream one day.”
noah would never admit it, but alejandro had already fulfilled that dream with him.

the two were as close as can be, spending every waking second talking to each other. they even sent each other ‘good morning’ and ‘good night’ texts when they could. all of noah’s friends noticed that their relationship was deepening.

-

“so, you and lover boy are hitting it off, huh?” gwen teased as she made some coffee. “you gonna ask him out yet or what?”
noah rolled his eyes. “no, i don’t even think he likes guys. besides, i’m content with what we have now.”
“yeah, but how long will you be ok with it? eventually, you’ll get tired of it.”
he rolled his eyes again. “i’ll make sure that i won’t be.”
“just be careful,” she warned with a sigh before taking her break. she was right, but noah didn’t want to think about it.

-

“things going well with alejandro, little buddy?” owen asked, stuffing his face with cheese.
noah nodded, not looking up from his phone. “yeah. i’m actually talking to him right now.”
“ooo,” owen teased with a snicker, “noah and alejandro, sitting in a tree, k-i-s-s-i-n-g!”
“knock it off,” noah scolded, his cheeks burning red as his lips curled into an upside smile. “i just, i really, really like him. he’s really sweet and charming, and i feel so comfortable when i’m with him, ya know?”

“then why don’t you tell him? what’s the worst that can happen?”
“um, the world explodes? duh,” noah sassed, rolling his eyes.
“that wouldn’t happen.”
“it will if i tell him my feelings,” noah groaned. “i can’t just tell him, it’s not that easy.”
“it’s ok!” owen comforted. “i believe in you! want some cheese?”
“no.”

-

noah hated to admit it, but they were both right in their own ways. eventually noah would have gotten tired of just being friends and might lose his chance to actually confess. he might get a girlfriend or something and he’ll just be stuck with these feelings that he can’t let out. and sure, it wasn’t the end of the world if he told alejandro he liked him. but still, he wasn’t going to tell him. he was as stubborn as he was smart.

but again, noah was painfully stubborn; and a coward.

-

a few days had passed, and noah hadn’t heard from alejandro in a while. he also hasn’t seen him at the coffee shop. sometimes he wouldn’t even buy anything, he just went to go say hi and talk to noah for a bit. they still texted everyday, but his responses became slower and more sparse. did noah do something? what was going on?

everything he asked about, alejandro would just deny that anything was wrong and he was just tired and stressed out. noah wanted to believe it, he really did. but uncontrollable overthinking came with crushes, and unfortunately, noah was falling victim to it.

sitting in his room, staring at his ceiling fan as he listened to foo fighters, noah couldn’t help but feel himself starting to lose control of his own mind. his thoughts were occupied by alejandro and alejandro only, and he found himself waiting for a text back. it was unhealthy and tiring, and he didn’t even spend that time waiting on anything useless, like his stacks and stacks of college work. that wasn’t his main concern at all right now though.

what if alejandro got a girlfriend? maybe that’s why he hasn’t been texting much, he was too busy hanging out with his girlfriend. what if he realized that noah had feelings for him and found it gross and wanted to avoid him? maybe that’s why he’s been so distant, he didn’t know how else to stop being friends with him. noah wasn’t sure which one was worse, but he prayed with everything his atheist self had that neither of them were the case.

-

it was another boring day at work, and with everything going on, noah was on the verge of breaking down. the whole situation was alejandro was throwing him off his game, zoning out while talking to customers and burning himself more than usual. he even spilled a drink on a customer and got verbally berated, and all he could do was stand there and apologize. noah wasn’t a crier, but right now, he wanted to cry more than anything.

gwen was right, he wasn’t content with being just friends. owen was right, he had to tell him.

once on his break, noah just slumped down into a chair and rested his head, his chest aching as he had to hold back tears. what’s worse is that he was covering for cody today, which meant he had the closing shift and had to stay the whole day. all he wanted to do right now was go home, take a shower, and forget today ever existed. unfortunately, that would have to wait another eight hours. noah sighed and bit his lip, keeping everything back. if only alejandro were here.

-

it was 7:18 pm, and the sun was starting to set. noah was the only employee left, impatiently waiting for everybody to leave so he could go home and finally rest. if it were up to him, he’d kick everybody out in a heartbeat; but it wasn’t, so he just had to wait and keep himself occupied by cleaning up the shop.

about fifteen minutes later, everybody finally left. noah sighed and stretched. all he had to do was clean up their trash, make sure everything was in order, and he could finally, fucking finally go home and sleep over a millennium.

once he was done, he grabbed the shop’s keys and locked up the place. it wasn’t closing time yet, there were still twenty minutes left. as if noah gave a shit, he would’ve closed up the second he got here if he could. he locked up the shop and made his way back home, putting in his earbuds. he couldn’t wait to lay in the comfort of his own bed again.

“wait! noah!” a voice shouted. he knew that voice, he loved that voice. it was him, it was alejandro.
for a second, noah didn’t even want to look back. he was hurt, he was pathetically in love. he didn’t want to face him right now.
however, because he was so pathetically in love, he couldn’t turn his back on alejandro, so he took out his earbuds and turned to face him.
“what-”

alejandro was standing in front of him, out of breath and sweaty with a bouquet of flowers and a dinosaur plush in his hands along with a letter that said ‘noah, mi amor’ on the front in black ink and cursive writing. with the sun setting behind him, orange and red adorning the sky, it really seemed like alejandro was shining. he was bright and beautiful, even when he was panting like a dog.

“wha- what is this for?” noah asked, despite it being obvious. still, he wanted to be sure.
“it’s for you!” alejandro shouted, shoving them all into noah’s arms.
“for me?!” noah’s eyes immediately darted to the letter, admiring the care and love put into it.
it was beautiful, and it was for him.

“yes! noah, i like you,” alejandro confessed, “i have ever since i walked in. whenever i’m around you, i feel like i don’t have to put up a front, i can just be me.”
noah felt his heart skip a beat as heat rushed to his cheeks, painting them crimson. so he did like boys, he liked him.

“noah, you are the most beautiful man i ever seen, more beautiful than any woman i have come across. you are beautiful inside and out, and i- i just- i can’t get you out of my mind.”
watching alejandro trip over his own words was new and strange, but it was endearing in a way. his normally cool and charismatic nature was gone, and he was a stumbling mess as he tried to profess his love to noah. it was sweet, it showed that he was genuine.

“i feel like i am the best version of myself when i’m around you,” alejandro continued, “and- and there’s nothing more i want than to simply just be with you. you make me feel safe and loved, and i- i hope that i can do the same for you.”
left speechless and in awe, noah could only stare at alejandro, eyes wide and full of love and warmth. he knew that he should’ve said something, anything, but he never thought this day would come. he wanted to convey the right words, the right feelings, and he wanted them to reach alejandro.

“sorry if that wasn’t, um” - alejandro cleared his throat - “clear, or even good for that matter. i wanted to go to your house or invite you out to confess, but we met here so it just feel right, ya know? but um, you can just, uh, read the letter. it’ll explain everything.”

still too stunned to speak, noah noted, delicately and gently opening the beige envelope, decorated with all the love alejandro held for noah. slowly, he read.
“oh, also, sorry i’ve been so distant,” alejandro frantically apologized, his mind a complete mess, “i’ve been so busy lately, and then i got sick and could barely even move, and i was gonna text you, but then my phone broke and i was too busy to come talk to you, and i just, ugh, it’s a lot, and- why are you crying?!”

noah didn’t realize he had started to cry, tender tears trailing down his tan cheeks, dripping onto alejandro’s lovely letter. he was so happy, so unbelievably happy. love was never a priority to him because it just didn’t feel real. it was out of reach, it was a mere idea to him.he wasn’t made for love. but ever since he fell in love, noah felt love all around him, love for alejandro. it was no longer an exaggerated concept he saw in shows and movies or mere words he’d read in his novels. it was here, it was made for him, and it was beautiful.

“are you ok?” alejandro asked, running up to noah to wipe his tears away. “i’m sorry if this is a lot, you don’t have to accept it if you don’t want to.”
“no,” noah replied, smiling as he cried, “i feel the same way, alejandro. i just, i never thought this would happen, and i’ve just had the shittest day of my life and i feel so fucking awful, so i really needed this. i feel so seen and loved because of you. thank you, alejandro.”

“of course, mi amor,” alejandro softly spoke as he caressed noah’s cheek, gazing into his eyes, his soul. “i love you, noah, i love you so much.”
noah smiled as bright as the sun, maybe even brighter. “i love you too.”
without missing a beat, the two pressed their lips together and kissed. it felt natural and easy, like it was simply meant to be. it wasn’t as grand as people said it was, but noah didn’t care. he didn’t need fireworks or people to cheer for them, he just needed alejandro, and that’s what made the kiss amazing.

the two parted ways, their eyes meeting with a smile. noah saw his reflection in alejandro’s green eyes, and he hoped he could see himself in his.
“you’re so beautiful,” alejandro said with a soft light in his eyes, “so very beautiful.”
noah just smiled and hugged him in response, pressing his chest against his, allowing their hearts to connect and beat as one. their souls intertwined, and as cheesy and cliche as it was, noah swore time stopped just for them; and maybe there were fireworks, maybe people were clapping for them. noah didn’t notice, he only had eyes and love for alejandro.

“would you like to get coffee sometime?” alejandro joked, gesturing to the closed coffee shop.
“hell no,” noah teased as he punched alejandro’s shoulder, “let’s catch a movie or something, i’m sick of coffee.”
“and let you talk throughout the whole movie as to why the plot does not make sense or how a character is extremely flawed, making the entire movie worse? no thanks, chico.”

noah just punched him again, but as his hand made contant, it was taken into alejandro’s hand with a light squeeze. his hand was cold while alejandro’s was warm, but neither of them minded. that was just how they were. noah liked black coffee without any sugar, and alejandro liked mocha lattes with extra foam and chocolate; bittersweet but beautiful.

i love you. i love you more than words can even begin to describe, but still, i will try. ever since we met, i have become enamored by your every move. i wanted to get to know you, i wanted to be with you. i was instantly drawn to you, and i cannot deny it any longer. i love how your long, brown hair lays on your nape, i love your tired eyes that i can see the stars in, i love your sarcasm and the way i know i will laugh when i am with you, i love your honest nature and your impressive intelligence that always leaves me speechless, i love your smile as it reminds me of the moon that shines above us. love is not easy, but loving you is. if the world were to end, my last wish would be to be with you. i would die a happy man with you by my side. death may be a bit drastic to mention at a time like this, but it is only inevitable, and i want to spend every waking moment with you. the more i learn about you, i more i want to memorize you. i want to show that i am listening, i want to show that i care. you are not background or white noise to me, you are the music, the beat, and the lyrics. you are my muse that i look upon for light and love. my world has not been the same ever since you entered, and i hope you never leave it, for you have become my world. i am a better man because of you, you have changed me for the better, and i have never been more grateful. you are in my heart and in my eyes, and i hope you feel the same. i love you, noah.
