Work Text:
Deep down, Evangeline was scared her husband wouldn’t like the gift she was sewing. Sure it was kind of childish but at the same time she felt that it all had good intentions behind it.
As she finished the last remaining stitches, she felt her worry set in. This really was childish. He’d probably laugh at her for even making such a thing. Eva sighed as she stood up from her wooden chair, holding the gift to her chest.
Suddenly the door to the sewing room opened and Jacks appeared in the threshold. His blond hair was all ruffed up. His white shirt sleeves were rolled up to his elbows, revealing pale skin. His piercing blue eyes caught hers and she felt her heartbeat pick up.
“Have you been hiding from me, Little Fox?” He asked, his lips curving into a small smirk. Okay maybe it did seem like that because she’d been hauled up in this room all day sewing, but she truly wasn’t.
“No…I truly haven't I’ve just been-” Jack's eyes caught sight of the gift in her hand. A hand sewn doll that looked just like his wife. Eva blushed and quickly put the plush doll behind her back.
“It’s….It…” Goodness gratuitous now she was stuttering. She took a deep breath and slowly revealed it in front of her chest again.
“It’s a gift for you. For our anniversary…I know you miss me when I'm away at the kingdom, even though you claim you don’t but I wanted you to have something of me…from me…for you, my love.” Eva turned the doll towards her and smiled softly at her creation. “Besides there’s a little pocket in it’s back where I can put notes for you.”
She looked up and met Jacks‘s eyes. “I know sometimes you do travel with me but even so…I just wanted you to have something of me that shows…and holds all my love for you.”
Eva smiled shyly as Jacks walked forward and took the miniature version of herself in his hands. He was quiet for a long moment until he spoke.
“Thank you, my love.” He smiled his boyish smile and Evangilne blushed. He leaned down and kissed her softly. Only parting for a moment to say. “I’ll cherish it while you're gone, Little Fox. Thank you for loving me.”
He leaned down and kissed her again, this time chaste, making Eva want more. Jacks caught the slight pout on her face and chuckled. “Soon, Little Fox. For now, I think I'll spend my time, while I make my gift for you, with this ... Mini Fox.” He smiled and held the doll in the crook of his arm as if it her glass.
As he left the room Eva wondered, was it possible to be jealous of a doll version of herself?
