"Sierra, what are you doing?" Heather tried to ask without sounding too annoyed. Her best hope for an alliance was now on the cafeteria sitting on a table covered in apples, their latest reward, furiously taking their stems of.
"Oh, it’s just a game I’m trying to play. A, B, C, D.. NO!" She threw the stemless apple into a pile and proceeded to grab another one and repeat the process furiously.
"Are the stems… not supposed to come of?" Heather insisted, sitting by her side in spite of her better judgement.
"No, it’s a game." She took Heather’s hand and placed an apple in it. "You twist the stem and call out a letter for each twist. When it falls off, that’s the initial of who you’re going to marry!"
Heather fought the urge to roll her eyes at the stupidity presented before her, especially because Sierra was looking so intently at her she could only guess the crazed fangirl expected her to participate in this.
Well, she did need to make friends if she wanted to survive in this game for longer than she did in Action…
"Alright." Heather twisted the stem. "A…"
SNAP
"See? That means your future husband’s name starts with A!" Sierra did her little screeches in excitement.
"Interesting…" Heather jumped at the sound of the voice interrupting their conversation. She turned to see Alejandro standing behind her (how did he even get here without her noticing?) looking as smug as ever.
"Why would that be interesting to you?" She asked, this time making sure she looked as annoyed as possible.
"No reason, really." He said, with his hands behind his back. "Just couldn’t help noticing you got my initial there."
Not breaking eye contact with him she said: "Sierra, hand me another apple."
Sierra did as she was told, already interested in the tension forming right in front of her.
"A, B…"
SNAP
"Oh look, a B!" She showed Alejandro the stem triumphantly. "I guess it just wasn’t in the cards for us."
Not easily defeated, the young man lowered himself to meet her eye to eye. "You do know that my family name starts with a B, don’t you? You just got my first two initials."
Her smile quickly turned into a frown as she reached for another fruit, desperate to prove that handsome, I mean, stupid jerk wrong.
"A…"
SNAP
"Urgh!"
"Heather, there’s no need to get your apples in a twist because of it." He chuckled. "I'll have you know I would make an excellent husband and-"
"Shut up! These stupid things are just too weak; they’re probably rotten or something." She began grabbing more apples, but maybe because of some weird joke from the universe, they kept snapping at the letter A.
Sierra looked up from a very frustrated Heather to Alejandro and…well, that’s funny.
He had this look in his face. It’s almost like she could see his eyes shifting from amusement into endearment as soon as the mean girl took her eyes off of him.
Wow, he was really fixated on her, it’s almost like he had a crush on her or something!
Wait.....Ohhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh yeah, this was definitely going on her blog!
She twirled in her chair in excitement and grabbed another apple, thinking about the amount of exclusive content she was already getting and they had only wrapped up episode 5!!!!
"A, B…"
SNAP
"Come on! JUST.GIVE.ME.ONE.C!"
And so the two girls stayed that way for a while trying to get different results to no avail.
Meanwhile, Alejandro had stepped away to the plane’s galley where he could be in peace away from his team. Taking his hands from behind his back he revealed a tiny apple he had taken from the girls’ pile.
He was about to take a bite when he looked at the stem and thought why not? He was alone with nothing better to do and it’s not like it actually meant anything.
"A, B, C, D, E…" Man, this thing was hard to come off. "F, G, H…"
SNAP
He blinked, a little dumbfounded at what just happened.
It was just a coincidence, of course it was.
Right?
