Snow fell from the sky, it was winter on Mount Paozu and Goku and Chi-Chi had come back from shopping. Chi-Chi insisted they walk, it was more "scenic" that way. He didn't get it.
Goku trailed behind Chi-Chi, arms full of grocery bags, making sure his wife didn't slip.
She was talking about something, he wasn't really listening, too busy staring at the back of her head. Her hair was in a bun, she had started putting it up recently, said it was more mature that way. He liked it.
After a few more minutes of trudging through the snow the couple made it to their tiny house. After taking off their coats and snowy boots they put up the (many) groceries.
“We got back later than I thought, I’m gonna start makin’ dinner, ‘kay?” Chi-Chi said, smiling. She grabbed her frilly white apron from the countertop and tied it around her waist, it was a lot bigger now. Her stomach had grown the last few months, Goku still found it a little unbelievable that his wife was growing an entire human in there.
Goku sat down, leaned on the table and watched Chi-Chi cook. He could have been training, but it was cold outside and Chi-Chi got mad at him sometimes when he did exercises in the house. (He didn’t know how push-ups were “bothersome”, but she had been in an irritable mood these days.) He also hadn’t really felt the need to train as much, he didn’t know why, but spending time with Chi-Chi wasn’t bad either.
The past few months had been weird…
He liked Chi-Chi. He did.
He liked the food she made him.
He liked when they talked.
He liked when she took care of him.
He liked when she worried about him.
So why didn't he love her yet? He felt pretty bad that he still didn't have any mutual feelings for her. Was there something wrong with him?
It had been a few months since the, er, baby-making incident. He didn't think love was required to make a baby, she didn't mention it in her long explanation. Apparently it was though, because Chi-Chi had been extremely upset when he admitted he didn't know if he loved her. He didn't mean to make her cry that morning, he really didn't know. He didn’t want to lie to her.
Chi-Chi had avoided him that whole day. (She knew Goku was being genuine, in his own weird way, but knowing that didn’t make it hurt any less.) That was a weird week, after finding out they were having a baby he thinks she pretends that incident didn’t happen at all.
Physical attraction was part of this love thing too, but he wasn't sure if he knew what that was supposed to feel like. Was he supposed to like her chest, her legs? He didn't love her body the way she seemed to love his (she’d touch him in weird places and call him pretty or handsome, he didn’t dislike it, he just didn’t understand why) ...One thing he did like about her body was her hair. It was long and shiny, smelled nice too! He played with it sometimes, she didn't even mind either!
He knew he'd have to figure out this love thing soon though. They were having a baby. He'd be a daddy. That came with a whole other type of love he'd have to learn about. (Though Chi-Chi said it'd come naturally, he wasn’t so sure.)
Chi-Chi was the person he was gonna spend the rest of his life with, he didn’t not want to love her. Maybe it would come to him one day, that feeling.
Finally coming out of his thoughts, he walked over to his wife and gave her a light peck on the forehead.
"....did you just kiss me?"
"Oh sorry should I have asked first?"
"No it's fine! You're just never the one to...you don't...why?"
"You're always giving me one. Thought I'd give it a try!”
Silence…
“Did I do it wron-”
“Can you do it again?”
