Chapter Text
A slow death.
By blood loss.
“A fitting way to die” Is what Tomioka thinks as he lies on the dry and dusty ground. Tall stalks of weeds and hay surrounded him, scorched yellow and dry by the beating sun above. No one would be able to find him here, his time had finally come. He was foolish to think that he'd escaped death by abandoning his home and friends, he had only just delayed it for a few months.
His eyes became blurred and unfocused, his senses filled only with the loud buzzing of the surrounding cicadas. Scarlet blood continued to pool out from beneath him as he distantly wondered how long it would take for his body to decompose after he passed.
" A week? Or maybe a few months. My sister's body only took a few hours, ravaged and torn apart by starving beasts.."
In a way he felt somewhat content with going out the same way as her, only there would be no guilt-ridden boy to mourn his death. Just as he preferred. Conscience slowly clouded, his injuries had long been numb and he could no longer feel the sun's heat glaring down on his mangled body, he closed his eyes as the singing cicadas faded away, it wouldn't be long until he joined the others.
Would they be mad when they see him? Angry at him for abandoning them as they slowly rotted away? Or maybe they would be happy to see him, overjoyed at their reunion.. He doubted it. Or maybe he would just end up in hell. Alone to atone for his sins of cowardice and deception.
Either place would arguably be better than the pitiful life that he had led.
A weak smile crossed his pale and bloodied face as he felt his conscience drift away. “A fitting death indeed….”
