Chapter Text

1.

Jeongin has been stressing over the problem of confessing to Hyunjin since yesterday, which in retrospect is actually very recent, but when he spends every waking second being around Hyunjin and trying not to blurt out a poorly designed haiku about Hyunjin's eyelashes (which he definitely didn't write), it's a constant torture every second.

It's early morning, and Hyunjin had came to wake up Jeongin at 6am, using his pretty privilege to will Jeongin out of bed and cook breakfast with him. This situation was strangely nostalgic to the first time Jeongin had realised that he had a massive crush on Hyunjin (which was actually just 2 days ago, Jeongin really had to work on his perception of time).

The golden rays of sunlight filtered in through the window, caressing Hyunjin's delicate features gently, and Jeongin marvels in the beauty of Hyunjin.

"What do you want?" Hyunjin asks casually, searching through their fridge for any ingredients.

"I still can't believe you woke me up for this. Couldn't you have finished making food then woken me up?" Jeongin grumbles, lifting himself up to sit on the countertop beside Hyunjin.

Hyunjin turns to him with a pout on his lips, "Yeah, but then I'll get bored. My sweet little maknae doesn't want hyung to die from boredom, do you?"

Jeongin tries not to blush from their proximity, and scrunches up his face, "Ew! I don't care if you die."

Hyunjin just giggles, and closes the fridge door to rummage through their cabinet. He mumbles under his breath absently, "We have to go grocery shopping soon."

Now or never! The voice in Jeongin's head urges him.

"Hyung, I-" Jeongin hesitates, wrangling his hands around anxiously.

Hyunjin turns around to face him, and Jeongin is taken aback by the concentration and intensity in his eyes.

"Um, I, just, really, um. I really want pancakes." Jeongin finishes the sentence with a lame giggle, and Hyunjin blinks in confusion.

"Okay..? Let's make pancakes then, yeah?"

"Sounds good!" Jeongin chirps out nervously. He mentally berates himself for not seizing the moment, and swears to do it next time.

2.

Jeongin lounges alone on the couch, as he was the only one with a free schedule today.

He takes a selfie of him making a funny face and sends it to Hyunjin, feeling smug for the lazy day he was missing out on.

Hyunjin's reply comes almost instantly: cute!

Jeongin blushes and remembers the secret mission he was on. He searches up how to confess to your crush on Google and scrolls until he finds an option he likes. Baking cookies sound perfect! He would repay Hyunjin for all those times he cooked for him, and who doesn't like a man who can bake?

Unfortunately, Jeongin cannot bake.

He ends up with two plates of burnt and deformed cookies, and a huge mess on the countertop and on the floors.

At this very moment, the key turns in the lock, and he runs to the door nervously.

Hyunjin and Felix walk in, laughing and talking, and Hyunjin scrunches his nose, "What's that smell?"

"I, um, tried to make cookies." Jeongin replies nervously, cursing his bad timing.

"Cookies?" Hyunjin's eyes light up. "Can I try one please?"

Jeongin yelps and blocks the way to the kitchen, and Hyunjin easily breezes past, giggling.

"Oh. Wow." Felix stares wide-eyed.

Hyunjin picks up a particular, phallic-shaped cookie and snorts.

"They're really not that bad!" Felix tries and smiles, ever the saint.

"Sure." Jeongin hangs his head, grabbing the plates to throw them away.

Hyunjin grabs his arm, "Hey, what are you doing? Cookies are cookies, you can't just waste them." He pops the cookie in his mouth, chewing thoughtfully. "They may not look good, but they taste good!"

"Really?" Jeongin's eyes shine, and Hyunjin's gaze immediately softens.

Jeongin bounds off, happy that at least Hyunjin likes the cookies, and fortunately doesn't hear the conversation occurring behind him.

"Do they really taste good?" Felix eyes the cookies skeptically.

Hyunjin makes a face, "No, and I'm pretty sure he used salt instead of sugar, but it's the thought that counts."

"Right, that's really sweet. Anyways, good luck finishing these on your own!" Felix makes a quick escape, and Hyunjin mumbles, "Traitor!"

He looks around and sighs. Now he has to clean up this mess.

He pulls out his phone and texts Changbin: come home quickly! there are cookies 🍪

3.

"The aquarium?" Hyunjin ponders. "Sure, why not, I've got a free day anyways."

Jeongin internally cheers at the success of the first step in his 26-step plan of asking Hyunjin out.

He spends the entire day in nervous anticipation of the confession he planned at the end of the day.

The soft blue glow from the tank illuminates Hyunjin's face perfectly, and he absently pulls out his phone to snap a quick photo of Hyunjin staring adoringly at the tiny fish swimming by.

His heart fills with affection, and Jeongin interrupts gently, "Hyunjinnie-hyung. I wanted to tell you this, and I hope you won't make fun of me or anything. But um... I really like-" Someone stumbles into Jeongin, and he is pushed into Hyunjin's warm embrace.

"Hey, are you okay?" Hyunjin immediately looks down to check on him, concern evident in his eyes.

"Y- yeah! I'm fine." Jeongin clears his throat and shuffles backward awkwardly.

"What was it that you wanted to say?"

"Um, nothing important. I was just going to say that I really love, um," Jeongin quickly scans his surroundings, and notices a nearby sign, "hammerhead sharks. They're just, really cool, with their heads that look like hammers, and their sharp teeth and all."

Hyunjin raised an amused eyebrow, "That's good for you, I guess? Well, we're at an aquarium right now, so lucky you! Look! There's one swimming by right now!"

"Yeah, lucky me..."

And at the end of the day, they leave together, Jeongin with a hammerhead shark plushie in his hands that Hyunjin had gifted him with a fond smile.

He gently sets the plushie down at the end of the bed.

+1

Jeongin tiredly gets under his covers, sighing. He's been trying repeatedly to confess to Hyunjin, yet all his attempts had failed.

Maybe he should just give up.

Maybe he misread the situation, and Hyunjin was just trying to be a helpful friend instead of giving him hints.

Maybe he was hallucinating, and Hyunjin did not just peek into his room through the gap in his door.

"Hey." Hyunjin smiles shyly and Jeongin automatically shifts to make space for Hyunjin in his bed.

"What's wrong?" Jeongin asks, concerned.

Hyunjin stares at Jeongin, long black hair framing his face perfectly.

Jeongin squirms a little under his intense gaze, and averts his eyes.

"I'm sorry." Hyunjin's raspy, sleepy voice does unhealthy things to Jeongin.

"For what?"

"For this."

Hyunjin places two fingers under his chin and tilts his head up gently. Before Jeongin has time to process the situation, Hyunjin leans in and presses their lips together in a gentle kiss.

Jeongin watches Hyunjin through wide eyes, holding his breath unconciously.

Hyunjin laughs breathily, and brushes his nose against his.

"I'm sorry, love. I know you wanted to confess, but I really couldn't wait that long."

Jeongin's heart stutters at the pet name, and he intakes a sharp breath. "W- what? You knew? You knew and you didn't tell me?"

Hyunjin pouted, "I wanted to let you confess! You were so brave to try, and I'm so proud and honoured that you made such an effort."

"Okay." Jeongin suddenly turned shy, ducking his head.

"So we're boyfriends now, okay?" Hyunjin gives Jeongin a soft peck on the top of his head.

"Okay." Jeongin snuggles closer to Hyunjin and smiles giddily into his chest when Hyunjin wraps a strong arm around him.
