When Robi really needs some time alone he goes to that private locker room all the way to the far end. It is almost always empty, especially when the teammates are still training and staff members are working around the field and to be fair, nobody bothers to use it.
There’s something about this place that calms him down, maybe the soft carpeting or so many bottles of lotion and clean towels by the mirrors, or maybe it’s the sound, like someone humming just one note, mmmmm that helps him deal with the fact that he made a blunder on the field yet again.
He doesn’t know what came over him during yesterday’s game - he meant to defend and pass that ball to the goalie, not their own net!
In frustration he sends an unfortunate bottle full of liquid next to him flying across the room and a loud dissonance of shattering glass is heard; the scent of eucalyptus permeates the air.
Bits and pieces from the final moments of the game start to flow back to him.
He remembers now the waves of color, the sound, and that out of everyone, it was Leo, who just joined the team not too long ago , came over and whispered words of encouragement to him, telling him not to worry, they will win in the end.
And they did.
The thought of Leo slowly and calmly softens the contraction around his heart. He thinks about how Leo transferred to this school a few months ago and became instantly popular, which makes sense because he’s cute and extremely talented, but that’s not “it”.
Colors are literally brighter when Leo gives you his full attention, but also there’s this feeling of peace, you don’t need to scramble or fight to try to get someplace else because you’re already there.
Robi also notices himself playing better each day and starts to love this sport more ever since becoming teammates with Leo, it’s like some of his magic dust floats onto him and sticks.
When Leo joined the team his teammates got infatuated by him really fast, especially their forward Campana - there is often that slight smile drifting onto his face when his gaze wanders into Leo’s vicinity, then quickly swerves away once Leo looks back.
Leonardo Campana is handsome and his family is rich, girls go crazy for him, calling him “Campapi”. And when he found out Leo and his family live across the street from Robi’s, he asked him questions like do you ever see Leo inside his house?
Robi answered No there are trees in between our windows. So Campapi went Well, do you know where his room is?
And for some reason Robi said No, but he does know.
Leo’s room faces the front and there’s a blue lamp in his window, sometimes Robi walks past the house at night he looks for that blue lamp to be turned on, and then he knows Leo is awake and he might be in love with Leo too.
