Work Text:
Kaminari had stumbled upon a T-shirt he liked while out shopping once. Across the top, it read, “Soundgarden” in all caps. He had no idea what that was, but he liked the shirt.
He would’ve never imagined that he would be approached by the cute girl in his biology class because of the shirt.
Jirou slid into the chair across from him. “You like Soundgarden?” She asked, leaning forward with her forearms on the metal lab countertop.
“Oh?” Apparently it was a band? Maybe? He was too embarrassed to ask. If he ever wanted a shot with this girl, he couldn’t ask her what this was.
Kaminari thought she was so pretty, in a way he had never thought of any other pretty person. There was something about her that made her so uniquely gorgeous.
“Yeah, uh, they’re cool.” He nodded his head.
“What’s your favorite song?”
His mind went blank. The dreaded question.
“I don’t really have one. I like all of them!” He said, trying to play it off.
“Really?” The girl sounded suspicious, but seemingly shrugged it off. “Makes sense, I guess.”
They talked for the rest of the class and he ended up with a number written on a blue sticky note. That sticky note was then stuck on the back of his hand.

Kaminari had been the one to ask her out. But, Jirou had concert tickets, so that’s where they went. She claimed this band was like Soundgarden. Although, it was small and local, so the concert wouldn’t be packed.
When they went, he ended up wearing that same shirt as before. It was his only alternative band T-shirt anyway. He was going to wear it to every occasion like this until he got called out on it.
They went to the concert; he picked her up in his car. Kaminari had a hell of a time pretending like he knew how any of the songs went. He definitely should’ve looked into them before agreeing to come to a concert with Jirou.
On their way back, he felt an itch to tell her the truth. He was a horrible lier anyway. She’d figure it out eventually.
“Jirou-“
“You can call me Kyoka.” She interrupted.
“Kyoka, can I tell you something?” Kaminari couldn’t help but look at her for a moment, then quickly look back at the road.
“Go for it.”
“I have no idea what Soundgarden is.”
The last thing he was expecting was to hear her just burst out into laughter, which was quickly muffled by her hand. It confused him more than anything.
“I was wondering when you were going to admit that.” She said, in a slightly teasing tone.
“You knew?” He questioned.
“It wasn’t hard to figure out.”
