Chapter Text
It was a peaceful night inside the Owl House, all the lights were turned out, everyone was sleeping, not a single sound was heard in the house.
Inside one of the rooms was Luz Noceda-Clawthrone, the human witch, and her little brother in all but blood, King Clawthorne, resting comfortably in her arms.
Luz was smiling in her sleep, having a dream about having kids with Amity when she felt King shift around, it didn't bother her too much as he always did this.
Eventually King's movement started to become more erratic, forcing Luz to wake up with a groan. She looked down at King with tired eyes.
"King...? It's late... Go back to sleep..." Luz closes her eyes again, trying to go back to her wonderful dream. She heard a whimper come out of King.
Her eyes shot open, now fully awake and looks down at King once more, despite the room being dark she could see clear as day that her little brother was squirming around like something bad was happening.
"No..." King whimpered out, Luz's expression turned to a frown, he was having a nightmare. "Please... Don't go..." King whimpered again, Luz started to wonder who he was talking about.
Luz tapped his back in an attempt to wake him up, he stirred a little but was still asleep. "Why?... What about all the fun times we had together?... You really want to throw all that away... Luz?"
Luz froze in place, King's nightmare was about her leaving, her eyes widening in realization.
"I don't care that you helped Belos... I need my sister...!" Oh... This was about that really dark time for Luz where the guilt of her helping Belos was eating her away, and she decided to stay in the human realm forever. She was so glad that she never went through with that much in thanks to her mother Camila.
"No... No... Don't go... Don't leave me..." King was sounding more and more frantic, Luz knew she had to wake him up and let him know that she was here.
"King." Luz shook him a little, but he was still deep in his nightmare.
"I thought you wanted to be a witch... I thought you cared about us... about Amity... Eda... Me..." Luz felt like she was stabbed in the heart after hearing that, she needed to wake him up now!
Luz shook him again and said his name much more clearer and louder, he stirred a little more. "Protecting us? This isn't protecting us you're just abandoning everything just because you helped some old jerk! You wouldn't have helped him if you knew!"
Luz knew that everything King was saying was true, but he needs to know that his sister never left, and that he was in her arms safe and sound. She said his name again as loud as she could without waking Eda or Hooty up, causing King to bolt up awake with a weh.
He looked around confused, his eyes then landed on Luz, she could feel his glowing yellow eyes stare into her soul, while that would be scary, this was King, her brother, forever and always.
After a few moments of silence King suddenly broke down in tears, clinging onto Luz and cried into her chest. Luz wrapped her arms around him securely. "It's okay... I'm here... I never left... I won't leave you ever again..."
Luz rubbed circles around King's back with her finger as she whispered to him that everything was fine, eventually King's crying became nothing but sniffles.
He looked up at Luz with a look of worry. "Promise? Promise you won't leave us...?" It was times like these that Luz was reminded that King was 8, he was still just an impressionable young child despite his species being able to grow really old.
"Promise." Luz said with nothing but confidence, squeezing King tighter, he hugged back as tightly as he could. "Do you want me to go grab a snack and drink?"
King nodded with a hum, Luz stood up with King in her arms and walked out of the room, going down the hall and down the stairs into the kitchen, she opened the cabinet where the snacks were hidden and let King pick the one he wanted, after that she opened the fridge and again let King pick the drink.
Luz carried King back into her room, she set him down and rubbed his back as he ate his snack and drinked his juice.
Once King was done he climbed up into Luz's arms, snuggling into her chest once more. "Better?" Luz asked, gently stroking his head.
"Better..." King replied with a yawn, already getting sleepy.
Luz slowly laid back down on the sleeping bag, making sure not to disturb King too much, "Luz... Could you hum?"
"Of course buddy." Luz smiled and began humming a tune while rubbing circles in King's back, soon enough he was snoring peacefully. But Luz was still humming to make sure he was extra comfy and to ensure that he wouldn't have nightmares for the rest of the night.
"Good night little brother." Luz slowly closed her eyes and fell asleep, King didn't have another nightmare for the rest of the night.
