He stares down at the sleeping body, nestled comfortably underneath the soft pink and white blanket. Their plush gray tabby cat lying securely under their arm.
His fingers twitch, an urge overwhelming him. But it’s not the usual bloodthirsty hunger. Not the usual need and desire to tear through flesh and muscle to get to what he wanted underneath. No, he could never harm who he was staring at. Not to that extent.
He quickly relaxes himself, taking a breath that he doesn’t need. They told him ways that help them calm down. It sometimes helps him.
He continues to stare down at their sleeping form for a few more seconds. Then he quickly makes his decision before they wake up and see him standing in their room. They wouldn’t be upset or scared, but he wanted them to be asleep at the moment.
He strips down to his t-shirt and boxers, mask still secured over his face, and gently lifts the blanket up to slip into place next to them. They’d kill him if he got into their bed with jeans on. His clothes weren’t dirty, but they hated the feeling of denim on their skin.
He lays there, once again staring. He truly doesn’t know what to do next. He’s unable to recall the last time he laid in bed with someone, if he ever had at all. His life before overwritten the day he was killed. All past memories were just a faint echo now.
He recalls back to the movies they had watched together. Although most were horror, there were some moments where two characters had cuddled up together. He tries to think about the scenes of characters in bed, but quickly rids them from his mind. Those usually turned sexual and he didn’t want that. Not now.
He simply decides to do what seems natural. He gently lays an arm over their waist, splays his hand over their lower back, and pulls them close. They stir for a moment and he tenses up. He watches as they adjust, face pressed against the pillow and plush cat tight against their chest. Once they still and their breathing evens out again does he continue to move.
The feeling of someone being this close is strange and foreign to him. His chest seems to tighten and if his heart was still beating he’s sure it would be working overtime. He idly wonders if he had someone before this life, if they both had also laid in bed and slept together.
But that doesn’t matter anymore. Even if he found a past lover, he no longer cares about them. He’s only focused on the person in front of him. His person. He doesn’t know how he wormed his way into their normal life but he’s glad he did. He’s glad he doesn’t have to spend most of his time alone.
Being lost in his thoughts, he doesn’t notice two sleepy eyes watching him. He’s only brought back to reality when he feels a hand softly touch his chest. He looks at them and takes in their expression, their brows furrowed slightly and eyes blinking slowly.
God, they were beautiful. He didn’t know how someone like them could love someone like him.
They ask if he’s okay, voice quiet and rough with sleep. He can’t bring himself to speak. He nods and loops his arm tighter around their waist. They hum and smile softly, leaning over to press a light kiss to his exposed jaw.
He wishes he could take off his mask and kiss them properly. But he’s not ready. Not ready for their reaction. He fears they may finally realize who they’ve been with and run as far away as possible. He can’t have that. Not when he’s so attached.
So for now, he lightly presses the mouth area of his mask to their forehead. Their smile widens and they bury their face in his chest, plush cat squished against his stomach. He brings his hand up to the back of their neck and rubs the skin there.
He feels vulnerable and exposed. It’s another strange feeling on top of all the others, but he doesn’t mind. His entire body feels warm and he can only press himself closer. He didn’t think he could ever feel this way, especially not with another person.
He feels as their body presses against his and they let out a soft sigh in content. He stares at the wall, focusing on their soft skin and breathing even out. He doesn’t need sleep but at the moment that’s all he wants to do.
