Work Text:
Julien opened her eyes, immediately regretting it when she felt the searing pain in her head. She groaned and curled in on herself, hiding her head under the comforter. The throbbing and stabbing behind her eyelids was excruciating, and the pain was enough to make her nauseous.
“Julien?” She felt Lucy place a hand on her side, and when she didn’t react to the touch, she started rubbing small circles on her back.
“Julien, what’s wrong?” She heard Lucy ask again, worry clear in her voice.
She slowly removed one hand from her eyes, and motioned to her head, knowing Lucy would understand even without the words.
“Another migraine?” She asked, moving over slightly to try and look at Julien’s face, at least she assumed that’s what she was doing, she still couldn’t open her eyes. She let out a small ‘mm’, trying to will the nausea away, which was building with the pain.
She groaned as she felt Lucy running her fingers along her neck, trying to relieve the tension.
“It’s okay, baby. I’m gonna go get you some Excedrin, alright?” She said, and Julien felt her leave from beside her on the bed, then heard her footsteps leading away from their bedroom.
It wasn’t uncommon for Julien to get headaches, maybe it was from the years of abusing substances in her youth, or maybe from the cigarettes that she still smoked, maybe she was stressed, or maybe she just had bad luck. However, her migraines were not normally this bad. Julien was the type of person who would always power through her pain. There was a point in time where it was her daily life, but today it was so unbearable it felt like all the breath had been swept out from her lungs.
After a moment, or an hour, she couldn’t tell, Lucy was standing on her side of the bed, lovingly rubbing her shoulder.
“Hey, baby, you need to take this. You’ll feel better once it kicks in.” She pulled the comforter away from Julien’s eyes gently, which made her realize that at some point the blackout curtains had been closed, making the room significantly darker.
“It hurts so bad.” She muttered, not really meaning to say it out loud, but at this point she didn’t care what was coming out of her mouth.
“I know baby, I’m so sorry.” Lucy mused, leaning over and taking Julien by the shoulders, ever so slowly bringing her into a sitting position, which caused her to whimper and grab onto Lucy’s waist, squeezing as her pain surged.
Lucy knew what to do when someone had a migraine, she had lived with them for over a month when she had a concussion, and she’d had her fair share on other occasions. Julien knew this, but it didn’t make it hurt any less having to go through the steps.
Lucy lightly tapped at Julien’s jaw, telling her to open her mouth, which she did. She placed the tablet on her tongue; then made her sip from the glass of water she was apparently also holding.
“I think I’m going to throw up.” Was what Julien said after Lucy set the glass on the nightstand. Her eyes were cracked slightly open at this point, and she saw Lucy’s widen at that.
“Please don’t.” She pleaded, standing up and rushing back out into the hall.
She returned a few seconds later with a bowl and a wet towel.
Julien was back to laying in her cocooned-fetal position, and was now slowly rocking back and forth.
She felt Lucy lay down beside her, and the cold towel was laid across her forehead. She grimaced and reached her hand out behind her blindly, Lucy took it in her own and peppered soft kisses along her tattooed knuckles.
“What else can I do for you, love?” She asked, concern still apparent in her tone.
“Just, hold me, please.” Was what she managed to say between deep breaths and clutched fists.
She turned, finding Lucy there waiting, and buried her head into her chest. She could feel her heartbeat, slow and steady, completely opposite from her own.
“I’m sorry.” She whispered, breath hitching as she felt a sob lodging in her throat.
“Why are you sorry? It’s a migraine, honey, you can’t help it. You’re going to be okay, soon.” Lucy whispered into her hair, resuming rubbing circles into her back.
They stayed there for what felt like years to Julien, but was really only about a half-hour. At some point after that she managed to drift off to some sort of half-sleep state, her grip finally loosening on Lucy’s back.
…
When Julien opened her eyes, she could breathe again. She exhaled against Lucy’s chest, and started to leave soft kisses along her collarbone.
“Hi, sweetheart.” Lucy chuckled in response, slowly running her hands through her hair as Julien continued leaving kisses against her chest.
“Hey.” She whispered back, finally pulling her head up to look at Lucy for the first real time that day, who lightly thumbed at the dried tears across her cheeks.
“Feeling better?” She asked, to which she nodded, and left a soft kiss against her lips. Lucy smiled, and removed the rag which was still laying atop the other girls’ head.
“Thank you.” Julien said, eyes filled with soft admiration.
“Of course, I’m glad you’re doing better now.” Lucy said with a look that could only be described as loving adoration.
“You were right, y’know.” Julien said. Causing Lucy to raise an eyebrow, “What?” she asked.
“You were right, the medicine helped, and I was better soon.” She clarified.
“I’m not wrong often.” Lucy said with a smirk, loving how she could tell that her girlfriend felt so much better than before.
“Mm, that’s true.” Julien breathed, kissing her again, this time a little longer.
“I’m really glad that you didn’t end up puking.” Lucy giggled when she pulled away.
“What, you don’t want to kiss me with the taste of vomit in my mouth?” She said, feigning offense.
“Absolutely not. That’s actually, like, so disgusting, JB.” Lucy said with a shudder, causing Julien to laugh that gorgeous laugh of hers.
She untangled herself from Lucy and the sheets, then stood, reveling in the fact that what was unbearable earlier was only a small throb now.
She turned back to the bed, and saw Lucy watching her with a smile.
“Get up, I wanna make you breakfast.” She said, coming over to grab onto her arms.
“What if I want it in bed?” She asked with a grin.
“If you get up now, I’ll let you make the coffee.” Julien bribed, which made Lucy immediately climb out of bed and wrap herself around her from behind.
“I missed you.” She whispered into Julien’s neck. “Good thing I feel better now, then.” She whispered back, smiling. She leaned up to give her a kiss on the forehead, and they both walked out of the bedroom and into the hall.
