Work Text:

There was never a time of day where the Oracle’s castle was quiet, there was always whispers and laughter that followed the twists and turns within the castle. So, when Syrinx left the warm comfort of her bed she was immediately put on guard, it was quiet. There was no sound, not even the sound of footsteps could be heard from outside her bedroom door. Syrinx was concerned but she was hesitant to investigate, instead turning her attention to getting dressed. She looked to the end of her bed and was met with a royal blue tunic, the tunics shoulders covered in baby blue embroidery, accompanied by white undershirt and black slacks. Syrinx huffed a pained sigh as she got dressed, looking into her floor mirror she saw a stranger staring back at her. Her mind wondered as she looked deeper into her reflection. Her face was too masculine, shoulders were too broad, her chest was too flat, hair was too short. Her thoughts were cut off by knocking at her door.

Syrinx took a deep breath and collected herself, being greeted by a servant telling her the Oracle would like to speak to her. Anxiety filled her chest, but she smiled, thanking the servant as she walked towards the throne room. The sound of her footsteps filling the large hallways, until she finally reached the blackwood doors. She takes a moment to collect herself, ensuring she looks like the esteemed Prince of Holloway as she reached for the handles. Creaking filled the air when the doors opened, the Oracle was pacing angrily across the polished tiles. His hands clenched to his sides as he muttered.

As the doors finished opening, the Oracle’s head snapped towards the current Prince of Holloway. Syrinx closed the doors, fully knowing the conversation that was bound to happen. They stood in silence for what seemed like forever. When he finally looked at Syrinx, her father looked absolutely furious, hints of shame and disgust lined his face. Syrinx looked back at him timidly, when she finally asked the Oracle what he wanted to talk about. Regret immediately filled her chest when the Oracle’s third eye started to glow. “Who in all of Holloway is this Syrinx? And WHY do all my leads come back to you ꚽꛎꔪ𖦪ꛈ𖤢ꚳ?” Syrinx flinched and looked away from her father, she wanted to curl up and pretend this conversation wasn’t happening. “WELL? Are you going to answer me boy? Or am I going to have to take the answer from you myself?!”

“I apologise that I did not tell you earlier father but,” Syrinx looked the Oracle in the eye, standing up straight, a small smirk lined her face, “I am the Syrinx you speak of. I am a transwoman; I have felt this way for years now and I am sick and tired of pretending to be your ‘perfect’ son!”

The Oracle looked taken aback, his eyes flickered towards the floor before resting on Syrinx’s face. His eyebrow’s furrowed, orange light glistened as his magic took hold. The light from the corners of the room disappeared as they focused in on the Oracle himself. Syrinx took a small step back, fully knowing what was about to happen, however her glance didn’t waver, still glaring at her father, she stood proud. Syrinx’s mind began to fog up, her thoughts going numb, no matter how hard she tried her father’s magic would always be too strong for her. Letting out a sigh Syrinx let her mind succumb to the magical presence. “No matter what you believe you are, you will never be a woman, you are a PRINCE for hollows sake. You are my SON, the future heir to the throne, that is a man’s job.”

The magic started to dissipate, leaving Syrinx feeling weak and dizzy. However, she stood up with a prideful smile, brushing off her tunic, her eyes glistened in the left over light. Standing up straight she took one menacing glance at her father knowing this would be the last time she would see him. “You of all people should know that spell stopped working on me years ago father. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be packing my things and spare you my company.” She turned and walked to the door, glancing back one last time, “I’m proud of who I am father, I was hoping you could be proud of me too.”

Before the Oracle could get another word in, Syrinx slammed the door and ran down the hall towards her room, the tears the lined her eyes threatened to escape but Syrinx held them back, knowing she would be able to express herself later. Right know she needed to stand strong. She entered her room she kneeled and reached under her bed for her bag. Syrinx had had the bag prepared months ago, knowing she would have the conversation with her father eventually. She put the bag on and took one last glance at her mirror, the Prince of Holloway would never stand foot in this room again.

She left her room with a grin, running down the hallway towards the castle doors. She headed towards the Hollowed portals. As she ran the castle outline disappearing behind her. Finally, she arrived at the ruined property, vines and runes lined each portal, the place looked like it hadn’t been in use for decades. However, this didn’t stop Syrinx as she looked past all the portals, looking for one labelled ‘Earth’. Syrinx stepped on the portal plate; green light swallowed her as she was teleported to her new home.

The light was bright on her eyes when the teleportation had completed, birds were chirping, and the Evergreen Forest filled her vision, the tall spruce trees and lush grass was a beautiful sight. Syrinx was finally free; she could be herself without the confinement of being a ‘Prince’. Syrinx walked the through the forest for a small while until she found the perfect place to sit. She sat down against one of the many spruce trees, a smile lacing her face as she sat. Syrinx Anne-Marie Holloway had a good ring to it, don’t you agree?
