Work Text:
Kyle can't help but wonder if Stan is awake on a morning like this. On Saturdays, Stan waking up before noon is about as probable as flying pigs. But, man, Stan should really be around to see this.
It is autumn in South Park. Ordinarily, there are only two seasons on their side of the Rockies: cold and colder. But this week, the residents of South Park have dusted off their box fans and brought out their summer clothes. A heat advisory has been put in place for the whole week, and the weatherman isn't sure when it'll end. This means 70 degree weather and, Kyle's favorite part, leaves. Leaves uncovered by snow. The oak trees planted ornamentally along sidewalks have started to turn breathtaking shades of orange and gold, the likes of which never before seen in South Park. They crunch under Kyle's feet on his way to an from work everyday, and he could never be happier about it.
To top it all off, it is 5AM, and Kyle is sitting on his roof watching the sun rise. He eats a donut with one hand and holds up his phone in another, snapping a photo of the sky to send to Stan. If you come over now, you could probably catch the rest of the sunrise with me. Try not to dislodge my gutters this time lol
On my way!
omw** i fucking hate autoreplace
Good morning to you too, Stan.
About 7 minutes later, who but Stan Marsh appears beside Kyle with a toothy grin and two bottles of beer. Kyle frowns. "Stan, it is 5 o'clock in the morning, and I have to be at Circle K pumping gas in an hour."
Stan pops open the top of his bottle. The cap slides down the roof tiles and into the gutter system. "So what? We have a week before school starts. Only seven more days, Kyle!" Stan throws an arm around Kyle's shoulder and takes a swig from his bottle. "Live a little!"
The gesture brings a smile to Kyle's face, he has to admit. Coupled with the scenery, and sharing it all with his favorite person, well...
"Yeah. Yeah, alright," Kyle says, hesitantly but happily. "Screw it. I have to quit soon, anyway, what with school and all." He takes the second bottle from Stan's hand. "If I get fired, then so be it!" Kyle tries to dig his nail under the bottlecap, and when that doesn't work, he tries to use his teeth to pop it open. Stan chuckles and grabs the bottle, opening it with such ease that it almost feels mocking. He nestles the bottle back into Kyle's hand.
"Attaboy. But y'know, you're not going to get fired for showing up a little buzzed. Just don't be a dumbass and no one will know." Stan splays his legs out in front of him.
Kyle takes a tentative sip from his bottle. That doesn't sound like a solid plan, he thinks. Out loud, he says, "Yeah, I guess you're right," and turns toward the sky.
With a beer in his hand and the best person in the whole wide world by his side, Kyle Broflovski spends the rest of the morning admiring the leaves drifting through the wind, matching with the auburn sky behind them.
When the time comes, Kyle manuveurs in through his bedroom window. Stan tries his best, but ends up in the bushes below. After Kyle emerges from his front door in uniform, the pair walk to Circle K together, throwing their empty bottles into a neighbor's recycling can along the way.
