Chapter Text
Hot, bright light flashed in her eyes. The pain was intense, like it was trying to burn away at her skull. She tried to ignore it and focus on the mission she had to accomplish. She couldn't care for the pain, not when so many people had died trying to get her to this point. Trying to get her, trying to get everyone, a second chance.
Taking a deep breath, Eri thought as far back as her mind could let her against the strain of the Quirk Enhancer. The pain was growing, nearly excruciating now, but she couldn’t stop. After all, she had spent the last four years training just for this single moment. And she would be damned if she stopped now.
She thought back to all those who had given up their lives just for this moment. And with that thought, Eri roared an anguished cry, fighting through the pain as she rewound time itself. During that split second, she saw them, the faces of people who had long passed. People who had died for good, and people who had died for evil.
Tears flooded her eyes as her body flew through the years. She saw Japan in its darkest hours; she saw the fall of a hero society; she saw the Battle for UA; she saw the traitor’s reveal; she saw Deku as he roamed Japan, a dark hero; she saw the heroes fighting against the Liberation Army.
Eri felt her eyes beginning to fall, but she couldn’t stop now; it wasn’t time. She had to go back as far as she could to a time of peace; that was the plan. She saw the missions against Humarise, the events on the island of Nabu, and Endeavour’s fight with the very first High-End. In the end, Eri was thankful for the searing pain, it was keeping her awake. “Just a little more.” She thought as she pushed her quirk to it’s brink, the horn on her head growing ever smaller.
She felt a warmth spreading through her body as she watched her younger self break into a bright smile during the festival. The warmth immediately dissipating as she watched Sir Nighteye’s death during the Shie Hassaiki Raid. She felt cold, entirely exhausted. The drowsiness she had been feeling was wrapping around like a blanket of death. “Hold on just a little longer.” She grit her teeth as she fought to stay awake.
Days and weeks flew passed her mind as she watched the world go back in reverse. “Just a little longer.” The images froze as they stopped and solidified themselves in time. Eri tried to keep going, to go as far into the past as she could force herself, but her strength left her as her sight went black, and she fell into the void.
And as she fell into the black abyss, she looked up at the memory, at the time she would reappear. Eri gave a weak smile. She stared at the two figures standing on a beach, realizing that she had actually shot farther than she needed to.
“Oh well, at least I can be with them for longer.”
Thinking back to her father’s last words, she breathed a small sigh. One of relief for a second chance.
“Don’t worry, father. I will save us all.
