Work Text:

"Was it worth it?" Kyungsoo's voice was tinted with anger, frustration but most of all, disappointment as he tossed the sealed folder on top of the CEO's desk.

Jongin immediately snapped his head up, not even sparing a glance at the content inside the folder for he already knew what lay inside.

"You got what you wanted, as always. So I'm asking you," Kyungsoo approached the desk with heavy steps, just as heavy as his heart. "You dumped me after cheating on me. You married a girl a month later only to file for divorce after two years, hiring your ex to do it for you. Was it worth it?"

It sure as hell had not been for him. Breaking up with Jongin had torn his heart to pieces, and after two years he could say he had been beginning to heal, to stop thinking he was not good enough. Kyungsoo knew he couldn't offer half as much as Jongin's wife could offer the CEO, yet he never believed the man capable of cheating on him. Jongin did a lot of things but he never lied to Kyungsoo.

Or at least that's what he had thought, the taller had clearly proved him wrong.

In hindsight, Kyungsoo should have known the CEO would do something like this. Jongin was powerful and loved to be in control, Kyungsoo was damn good in what he did so when Jongin asked him to help him get his wife, now former wife, to sign the papers, it was hard to say no.

Not only because Jongin had been smart enough to give him a blank check for him to fill to his liking but also because Kyungsoo knew there was no chance any of the good lawyers would manage to get Jongin out without having to give half of the empire he inherited. Kyungsoo was known for always winning divorce cases in his client's favor. If he had to be honest with himself though, the truth was Kyungsoo knew Jongin had other intentions.

There were a lot of good lawyers that would be able to deal with Jongin's ex wife's demands, Kyungsoo was good but he was not God. If anything, Jongin could buy the best of the best. He chose Kyungsoo because he wanted to.

For some reason, Jongin wanted to put Kyungsoo through the twisted pain of having to be the one to legally separate the CEO from the woman he cheated with. It was a sick game that of course would only have one winner.

It wasn't Kyungsoo.

As if Kyungsoo hadn't hurt enough having to be present during negotiations, all the time he spent alongside Jongin was like a thousand needles being stabbed into his heart.

When the lawyer woke up this morning and the signed papers sat on his mailbox, Kyungsoo started to feel how his heart was slowly exploding. He would have never thought that this process finally ending would feel so… final.

Even despite telling Jongin multiple times that he hated him and couldn't stand the CEO, Kyungsoo deep down knew the moment the taller entered his life again he was just as hung up on Jongin as the day he left him. It was pathetic but there was not a part of Kyungsoo that could hate Jongin after loving him so much.

As their eyes met, Jongin's almond eyes looked at Kyungsoo with a solemn expression. That was certainly not the triumph one the lawyer had expected to see on his sharp features.

"Do you think any of this is what I wanted?" Jongin looked tired, his words freezing Kyungsoo on his spot.

"Well, you got yourself here, Jongin."

An ironic sigh left Jongin as he looked at him incredulously before standing up and rounding his desk until he was right in front of Kyungsoo. His cologne permeated the air and left him hazy.

"From the moment I got this company my father dictated my life. When I met you I knew I would eventually lose you, but I couldn't stay away because I love you enough to want to risk it all." Kyungsoo gasped at those words, fists clenching with the need to finally hold this man back after years. "My father found out about you, Soo. I broke up with you because he would ruin your career. I didn't have anything to fall back on and I was scared I wouldn't be enough. He also arranged the marriage. I didn't know or love Sujeong, let alone touch her, I never did. I thought I lost you forever until my dad passed away and then I realized I was free to leave."

It's like all the oxygen inside his lungs failed him and Kyungsoo felt as though he was living a dream. However, Jongin was right here, his presence invading his personal space.

"Every day away from you felt like a slow, maddening torture yet it was worthy so long as you were untouch. Every second I longed for your presence, yearned to feel your touch. But now… now I get to win you back, have you back. I am not planning on letting you go this time, if you have me." Jongin's fingers slowly moved up to gingerly grace his cheek, goosebumps rising behind his touch. Kyungsoo could feel himself falling over and over again for the man barely a breath away in front of him, the man of his dreams. "So don't ask me again if it was worth it. Because the answer will always be yes, it was worth it."
