"Soon, all Bakugan will be under total control of the Vexos."
"Silence this fool, Helios! General Quasar!"
"So this is one of the six legendary Bakugan saviors? Pathetic!"
"Tigress! Give him bac- ugh!"
"Drago, I'm sorry..."
Dan's POV
I shot up awake in a cold sweat. Lately I've been having dreams of the Bakugan friends we made three years ago. These dreams leave me concerned because of how much we all fought for their freedom, and with us not being able to connect with them anymore, it just kinda bites that I can't go and check on them. Grrr, my brain's getting fried, I was never the idea guy when we were Battle Brawlers. I always sorta left that to Shun, wish I could actually contact him..
I growl as I slap myself in the face! Focus up Kuso, Drago wouldn't want you getting caught up in your anxieties like this! You've got a date with Runo tomorrow, you're gonna not be late for once, and you're gonna make her day! Let's fuel up!
"Dan, I love your enthusiasm but please be quiet, your father has work in a few hours!"
"Sorry Mom!" Forgot it was 3:00 AM.
Drago's POV
"How long must I sit and suffer as I watch my friends become slaves!? What was the point of becoming the Perfect Core if I can't do anything to help?! Was it all for nothing?!"
"Do not despair, young Dragonoid."My vision cleared to reveal before me,
"The six Legendary Soldiers?"
"Former, young one. You and your comrades have rightfully earned those titles. We have heard your plight and we sympathize.."
"However on your own, you are the Perfect Core, and your leaving would result in Wonder Vestroia in complete chaos."
"That being said, the fate of all Bakugan kind once again hangs in the balance!"
"As such, we have a way to separate you from the Perfect Core!"
"Truly?! Lord Apollonir, how can this be? I am no longer a Dragonoid!"
"We can craft you a new body for you to use while maintaining your link to the Perfect Core, however, be forewarned that you will not have the same amount of strength you had as the Perfect Dragonoid."
"That's fine! Anything to be able to protect my people!"
"Well said! Let the process begin!"The six Legendary Soldiers raised their arms as multicolored lightning shot forward towards my being! The pain was excruciating, but I will endure! I must endure! After what felt like forever, I received my new form. "And remember, young Dragonoid, in order to effectively battle against these foes, you must have the right partner!" Lord Apollonir finished as he sent me on my way.
Of course, there's only one person who can act as my partner in battle!
Dan's POV
"Still haven't heard back from Shun, yet?" Runo asked me as we walked to a bench.
"Yeah, it's crazy. I don't get it, did his grandpa's dojo have a power outage or something?" I questioned mashing the call button on my phone. I grunted as I saw Runo get that smug expression I can't help but lo-HATE I MEAN HATE!
"You sure you two have been playing nice lately? We all know how you can get your foot in your mouth." She snickered.
"Of course we've been playing nice!" I shrieked. "Look, things were just fine last week, but now it's nothing at all." I said showing her my phone.
"Strange." She said as she began thinking. "Hey Dan? When do you think we should ask her? About, that?"
"Whenever you wanna. Just because some things'll change doesn't mean that I want our alone time together to diminish." I said with a smile.
"Christ Kuso, sometimes you say the dumbest stuff, but other times you say just the right thing!" Runo screeched blushing a bit.
Marucho's POV
"Ooooh, come on! Stop talking about Shun and just kiss already!" Julie whispered while she, Alice and I were in the bushes watching Dan and Runo on their date.
"This is such a bad idea." I sighed from Julie's shoulders.
"Why are we doing this again?" Alice questioned as she moved some leaves from her hair.
"Because, they've been doing this song and dance for the past three years, and if I don't see some progress, I'm gonna lose it!" Julie whisper/screamed as Alice and I sighed.
"Sorry you ended up involved in this on your vacation here, Alice." I said as Alice smiled.
"нет, нет. Anytime spent with friends is time well used." She answered as we started feeling intense wind pressure. "What was that?"
Dan's POV
This is insane! A portal just opened up in front of us! The wind stopped blowing on us as we saw a Bakugan roll on the bench arm by us.
"No way! A Bakugan?" Runo questioned.
"But which one?" I questioned.
"Can't see the resemblance, Daniel?"
That voice shook me to my core, as the Bakugan popped out with a spin revealing, "Drago?!" I questioned with a smile.
"Long time no see, friend!" He said with a chuckle as Runo and I both jumped for joy!
"Drago's back!" We shouted, dancing at the sight of our friend in the flesh!
"No way! Hey Drago!" Julie exclaimed.
"Amazing! How's Preyas?" Marucho agreed, adjusting his glasses.
"This day just keeps getting better and better! Is Hydranoid here as well?" Alice smiled.
"Yes, it's good to see you all again as well!" Drago agreed-
Wait a minute.
"What are you guys doing here?" Runo asked as Julie and Marucho began stammering.
"Ehehehe, well you see, the weather's so nice and all.."
"We just thought well..."
"Julie wanted to spy on your date." Alice said without skipping a beat.
"BETRAYAL!" Julie shouted with shock.
At this point, I can't even say I'm shocked.
"While this is nice, unfortunately, I didn't come here just for a visit. I'm here, to ask for your help." Drago stated as his tone became somber.
"Did something happen with Wonder Vestroia, Drago?" I asked as he nodded.
"Recently a new species has landed on Wonder Vestroia. They are known as the Vestals. They have taken to colonizing Wonder Vestroia as their own. And to add further insult, they restricted us to our marble forms so we remain helpless to them!" He stated as my blood began to boil.
"How could they? Bakugan are intelligent beings that deserve their freedom!" I shouted.
"Thankfully, some Vestals understood that, however, none were able to contend with their overwhelming might. Golem, Preyas, Angelo and Diablo, Skyress, Hydranoid, even Tigress.. All have fallen..." Drago finished as the mood became somber.
"How cruel..." Alice shuddered as Runo began to tear up as I held her close to give her some comfort.
"And while I wish I didn't have to get you involved in another battle for our survival, I must ask you for your help again." Drago said bowing his head.
"Of course we're going! The Bakugan are our friends too!" I shouted.
"Totally, those jerk-wads are gonna pay for what they did to Golem!" Julie growled.
"To even capture Hydra, this insult to his honor will not be tolerated." Alice answered gripping her wrists.
"Absolutely! Those Vestals have another thing coming if they think they can stop the Battle Brawlers!" Runo replied getting pumped as Marucho nodded.
"Thank you my friends. Now please turn around." Drago continued to my confusion before Drago came up to my ear and whispered. "Listen, I can only bring you with me, I don't want to put anyone else in danger, you and I need to go."
"Drago, buddy thats a really bad idea, I'm not gonna just leave them here with no explanation." I whispered back.
"It's for their safety as well, we need to hurry!"
"If you think you're leaving without us, you're insane, Drago!" Julie shouted as Drago flew backwards a bit.
"How much of that did you hear?"
"All of it." Marucho responded. "Dan's whispering voice is still his outside voice."
"Plus thank you for not leaving us out! Good boy!" Runo said patting my head as I began to blush like an idiot.
"There's no way for me to convince you all not to come is there?" Drago began.
"Nope! Absolutely not!"
"Miyoko?!" Drago exclaimed. "When did you get on the phone?!"
"Dan called my phone as soon as you arrived." She answered.
"Since when was Dan so cautious with his planning?"
"Since he and I started dating." Runo answered.
"A lot's changed in three years." I added.
"I see, I see. Don't worry Miyoko, I won't let anything happen to Daniel and the others." Drago continued.
"Make sure you do Drago, remember, Hell Have No Fury," Mom began.
"Like a worried parent, I haven't forgotten." He responded without missing a beat. "Is everybody ready?" Drago asked as we all nodded and entered the portal, with only a crater as the evidence anything took place in that park.
Mira's POV
"Hey Mira! Check this out!" Ace said typing on the keyboard. I walked over and looked at the monitor only to be surprised at what I was seeing. Six unknown biometric signals near the Haos Hedges.
"Fascinating. Check the drone we have on the area to check on the Bakugan living there. We need to see if these six are friend or foe."
"Yes ma'am." He said starting the application. He zoomed in and saw what looked like five Vestals and one Bakugan just out and about looking around. "They can't be normal Vestals, they just appeared, and so far away from the colonies too. And there are Vexos signals coming their way!"
"I think I'll go over there and scout the area out." I looked towards my Gauntlet with a saddened expression. "I wish we didn't have to rely on these Devices. We made it our mission to protect the Bakugan from being used like this."
"It's an unfortunate gray area we have to work with. We know clearly that the Bakugan are sentient, but we still can't understand them at all. Plus as much as it sucks, all three of us gave Wilda, Percival and Nemus the chance to back out, yet they still stuck with us. That's gotta mean something." Ace responded as I sighed, picking up Wilda's Ball.
"I hope you're right."
Dan's POV
"So this is what New Vestroia's like. Definitely beats Naga's accidental revisions, that's for sure." I grunted as we looked around and saw some pink bushes.
"True, but the land here seems, kind of dead." Julie said crouching and picking at some soil.
"It's true. When the Vestals came here, they didn't see us as intelligent life forms. As such they thought this planet was free picking to them."
"How horrible!" Alice exclaimed as Marucho nodded.
"Well that's why we're here! To show those creeps what's what!" He finished giving a thumbs up.
"Is that true..?" We heard an unfamiliar feminine voice ask. We turned around only to see the bushes behind us.
"It's alright young one. You are among friends here." Drago said from my shoulder as a lion Bakugan floated up to us.
"I've heard about you, from Mr. Tigress's stories! You must be Drago, and if that's true, you guys must be the Bakugan Kin!" She exclaimed.
"Bakugan Kin?" Runo asked as we looked to Drago.
"It's the term Bakugan used for the six humans who played the greatest parts in saving our homeland. In other words, you all." Drago answered as we all took in that information. It's kind of surprising to think about us being considered heroes. Not gonna lie though, it does feel pretty good to be recognized!
"You knew Tiga?" Runo asked. "Tiga was my partner back then!" The strange lion Bakugan floated in front of Runo with way more pep in her step.
"Wow! Mr. Tigress loves you Runo! It's a pleasure to meet you! I'm Leoness!"
"Nice to meet you!" She said with an infectious smile.
"Well well lookie here, Volt! Looks like we missed one loan Bakugan in this area!" A shrill voice shouted before they erupted in laughter. We turned around to see a big guy with red hair in a white coat, and a short kid with flimsy hair in a green jacket.
"Step away from the wild animals, kids. The grown ups have business to conduct." The bigger one said as I started to get pissed.
"Screw that! I'm not gonna let you hurt Leoness!" Runo shouted.
"Yeah, and how are you gonna call us kids when your clothes look like they were picked out by a toddler?!" I shouted as the shorter one gave a growl.
"I'll let that slide since you don't know any better, but you better show us Vexos some respect!" He shouted as we heard a motorcycle rev as a woman with orange hair showed up and stopped in front of us. "God, not her again."
"What's wrong Lync? Don't wanna face little ol' me?" The woman questioned as she gave them a cocky smirk. Respect. She then turned to face us as I felt Marucho jolt behind me.
"You're pretty. And scary." He let out.
"Since you look like your protecting that Bakugan, I'll help you out. These are the Vexos, the strongest Vestal Brawlers on our planet serving the royal family. The big one with no brains is Volt, the shortie who thinks he's funny is Lync." She continued.
"Oh yeah?! Well why don't you see why we're the strongest Brawlers on Vestal, huh?!" Lync shouted putting on a black and green arm brace while Volt put on a similar one in yellow.
"Fine by me. You, goggle boy." I sort of gasped as she looked at me and Drago. She then tossed me one of those arm braces but this one was red. "I'm Mira Fermin. If you want to brawl, you're gonna need that Device. We use the Gate Cards to set the stage so we can grab Ability Cores from the field." She explained as I looked at the Device. "Try to keep up."
"Are we done with the exposition here?" Volt chided as he and Lync raised their Gate Cards. The two of them and Mira all shouted
"Gate Card, Set!" with me following along a bit after, as the Cards grew and caused an explosion revealing several Hexagons on the ground!
"You alright there?" Mira asked as I came out of my head.
"I'm fine, it's just this is way different from what I'm used to." I sighed.
"Then for now, just watch, and learn." Mira said glaring at Lync as they both prepared to roll.
"Bakugan, Brawl!" the two of them shouted.
"Bakugan, Stand!" The two shouted as a giant beetle and a brown fighter arose.
"Do you know these guys, Drago?" Alice asked as Drago flew to her real quick.
"A Ventus Fly Beetle, and Subterra Wilda. Both are quite strong contenders." Mira quickly dashed to an Orange Hexagon and threw it to Wilda, while Lync frantically searched for a green one, but it was too late.
"Wilda! Ground Detonator!" She shouted as Wilda slammed his giantic fists to the ground. Lync shrieked as this left Webam defenseless causing him to retract and roll back to Lync. Wilda returned to Mira's hand as she breathed a sigh of relief. "Now Wilda's safe for the time being. Do you understand, now?"
"Easy! This'll be a piece of cake!" I said with a smirk as Volt stepped up.
"Then allow me to be your opponent, since my comrade is obviously incompetent." Volt forced out as Lync merely whistled innocently
"Bakugan, Brawl!" We both shouted as we rolled our Bakugan on the field, but Drago had so much force behind his launch that it sent Volt's Bakugan flying as Drago made his commanding, spinning stand!
"No way! A Critical KO for his first roll out?!" Mira shouted looking back at me. "Amazing!"
"Looking good, Drago! How does it feel to be back in action?!" I asked him in the sky.
"Feeling great, Dan!" He said before returning to his ball mode in my hand. What surprised me though was that Volts Bakugan also returned to me. It popped open revealing a form resembling a centaur.
"Thank you for that. I thought I would never escape." He thanked as I scratched my head. He hopped out of my hand and began moving away from the brawl, with Julie and Alice defending him from Lync before he could try anything sneaky.
"This is embarrassing! I'm not done yet!" Volt shouted before Lync whispered something to him causing them both to pause. "Hmph. We entertained you enough for today, but you just made yourselves some serious enemies!" He finished before the two teleported away.
"Freaks! Come on back if you ever wanna lose again!" I shouted.
"That's right, nothing's gonna stop the Battle Brawlers!" Marucho shouted in turn as Mira began clapping.
"Very very fascinating. Not only did you manage to defeat a skilled brawler, and liberate a Bakugan, all without a sweat, but you're also able to communicate and understand them. All without a Device." I blinked. "Don't think I didn't see you drop it before, but clearly you don't need it. You are certainly an anomaly."
"Oh please, he's not special! We all could've done that if we had our partners!" Runo grunted as I sighed. Bruised ego aside, she's right.
"And why do you sound so surprised?" Julie questioned. "Do your Bakugan not talk to you?"
"It's a bit of a long story, but this isn't the place to share it. I have a base close by. We can talk there." Mira said walking away.
"Nice offer of choice." I mumbled to myself. Alice sighed placing her hand on my shoulder.
"As weird as this whole situation is, she appears trustworthy. I say we go with it for now." She thought as we all nodded. Runo looked towards Leoness in her hands.
"Do you want to try following the other Bakugan, Leoness? Maybe they can find somewhere safe away from those guys." She asked as Leoness laughed.
"Nah! Krowl's a buzzkill! Sticking with you guys seems way more fun, especially if we get to take down those creeps who took our home!"
Leoness hopped on Runo's shoulder as she smiled. "Then welcome to the Battle Brawlers!" The five of us humans began walking after Mira, filled only with questions in our minds.
You might notice the BakuTech Bakugan included here. That's because, honestly, New Vestroia's Bakugan lineup are so forgettable to me, namely if you aren't the partner of a main hero or bad guy. I wanted to try my hand at writing a rewrite of New Vestroia with BakuTech Bakugan that were out at the same time in Japan.
Changes will include:
- Runo, Julie and Alice will be main characters and not pushed to the sidelines.
-Each of the Battle Brawlers will end this story with a team of two Bakugan each.
-I've aged up Mira and Ace to 26 because I never liked that the dub tried to pair Dan with her, so now their relationship will be written in a bit of a more, professional manner. Dan, Runo, Marucho, Julie and Shun are all 15, while Alice is 17.
I don't know how frequently I'll be able to update this, it mostly just comes when inspiration strikes. That being said, thank you for taking the time to read this!
