A- Attraction: (What do they find attractive about their S/O?)
Okay first of all, I need to address that all the mercenaries have a particular type (like everyone does) but that doesn’t mean they won’t date someone if they don’t fit into that specific type. So don’t worry if what I’m about to say doesn’t describe you, especially since Scout ain’t picky. Generally, he goes for the “refined” type. Like he said in Expiration Date, he likes the smart ones. Classy, wears glasses, can read. The type that typically doesn't go for a guy like him. And while this is true, he also likes an energetic type S/O, one that can keep up with his rapid ramblings and boisterous personality.
B- Baby (Do they want a family? Why/Why not?)
One day in the future, yes. Scout grew up in a big family that was really close and therefore, is family-oriented. He gets along great with kids (since he’s pretty much one himself) and has a good awareness of the sacrifices it takes to raise a child or children (thanks to his Ma.) But, remember that I said “in the future.” Scout is still 23 and definitely needs lots of time to develop as a human being before he goes off making any big commitments like that.
C- Cuddle (How do they cuddle? Do they like cuddling?)
At first, Scout won’t wanna cuddle. Blame his insecurities of not looking tough or masculine. “I dunno, toots. It just seems so cheesy.” Don’t worry, give him time and he’ll turn into a lapdog. After a while of adjustment, he loves cuddling! Prefers to be the big spoon but definitely won’t complain about being the little spoon. For example, if he’s had a rough day then he will wanna bury his face in the crook of your neck as you hold him and stroke his hair. Warning, though. Even when cuddling, Scout is energetic. So be prepared for him to move or adjust positions a lot.
D- Dates (What are dates with them like?)
His first choice will be to take you to a baseball game (especially if the Red Sox are playing) and teach you absolutely everything there is to know about the sport. (Even better if you already know, though.) However, good luck finding any major sporting events in a town like Teufort. So, dates usually end up being more casual. Heading to the diner, going on runs together in the park (or walks, your choice), dancing together to the radio, or taking a tour of his “world famous” Tom Jones museum! And don’t worry, if you’d prefer something more fancy, he can probably convince Spy to help him arrange a fancy dinner.
E- Everything (“You are my _____.” Life? World?)
“You’re my doll, babe!” I know it sounds cliché (because it is) but Scout means it when he says this. Being scrawny and the youngest, he tries so hard to match up to not only his brothers, but fellow mercenaries as well. He constantly tries to prove himself, but with you, he has nothing to prove. You accept and love him for who he is. …You! He’s crushed on you for so long, almost comparing you to some unattainable image of perfection. Like a doll. And the fact that you return his feelings makes him all the more in bliss.
F- Feelings (When did they start developing feelings?)
Scout liked you the moment he saw you. It doesn’t take long at all for him to instantly begin flirting. (As you’ve seen in the comics with Ms. Pauling.) However, he started actually falling in love much later. It was after you had already begun dating, Scout just wanted to vent to you about the awful day he had. First a sentry kills him, then an enemy Spy backstabs him as soon as he walks out of spawn, and Medic wouldn’t heal him when he got low on health, always following Heavy. You just listened to him, told him it was okay, and held him. Then, Scout felt something he had never felt before.
G- Gentle (Are they gentle? If so, how?)
This is Scout we’re talking about. Not really. He’s typically boisterous, loud, talks rapid-fire speed, and can be inconsiderate a lot. But… he tries, if you ask him to. If he ever did upset you by something he said or did, he’d apologize vehemently of course. But don’t expect the situation not to repeat itself, it takes awhile for him to develop a learning curve. He’s definitely rough around the edges but he means well and that’s all that matters.
H- Hands (How do they like to hold hands?)
LOVES holding hands with you! Not only is it a nice display of affection for the both of you, it’s a way for him to tell everyone that you’re his. He tries to be macho like that. Though, I’m telling you now, his hands are sweaty. Not only from running so much but also the fact that his hands are so frequently wrapped in those bandages.
I- Impression (What was their first impression of their S/O?)
Like I said before, Scout instantly saw you and thought you were good looking! And really smart. And super cool. And amazing. Which caused him to start flirting. From the moment he met you, he thought the world of you. (He tends to do that with all his crushes.) He’d constantly daydream about you, fantasize about sweeping you off your feet, and generally think of countless ways to impress you.
J- Jealousy (Do they get jealous? How jealous can they get?)
Poor boy is insecure, though he’ll never admit it. So, no matter how many times he says he’s not jealous and definitely doesn’t care, he most definitely does. He’s so terrified that you might meet someone more romantic or suave than him to steal you away. So be sure to give him lots of reassurance! In the moment, however, if he sees someone giving you unwanted attention, he ain’t afraid to knock a sucker out. “Hey, pal! This one’s spoken for!”
K- Kiss (How do they kiss? Who initiated the first kiss?)
Scout kisses you constantly. On the cheek, on the forehead, on the neck, on the lips, everywhere he can reach is getting a playful little peck. Which is why it’s so ironic that you initiated the first kiss. When you first started dating, Scout would have kissed you a thousand times already had he thought it wouldn’t have made you uncomfortable. Thankfully though, he waited until he knew you were ready and let you take the reins.
L- Love (Who says “I love you” first?)
Definitely Scout. He said it way too early. I’m talking like, your first date. You both were simply laughing, having a good time until he belted out, “I think I love you.” Since then, Scout’s thankfully learned the difference between affection and real love and will gladly declare it whenever you ask.
M- Memory (What’s their favorite memory of their S/O?)
He’s got tons of precious memories with you. But his favorite has to be when he took you to meet his family back in Boston. He remembers how you were so nervous originally, wanting so desperately for his Ma to approve of you. Makes him chuckle every time. But seeing you later on cooking dinner with his Ma, hanging out with his brothers, joking and laughing, it makes him fall in love with you only more.
N- Nickel (Do they spoil their S/O? To what extent?)
Eh, not really. Don’t get me wrong, Scout makes bank from his job as a mercenary and will buy you some nice stuff for your birthday or Christmas or any special occasion like that. But besides that, nah. You should love him for him, right? Not his bank account.
O- Orange (What color reminds them of their S/O?)
Well, Scout always considered himself to be red. (Not just because of his team.) It’s vibrant, exciting, and makes itself known. Therefore, he sees it’s only fitting for you to have a color that compliments it. Something like a light blue or white, maybe even green?
P- Pet (What pet names do they use for their S/O?)
So. Freaking. Many. But to be honest, they’re all pretty generic. Stuff like babe, babes, baby, doll, doll face, toots (he uses this one a lot), sweetheart, sometimes slugger if he’s encouraging you. “Ya did real good, slugger! Keep it up!”
Q- Quaint (What’s their favorite non-modern thing?)
Considering Team Fortress 2 takes place in the late 60s to early 70s, I’m gonna consider that period modern. His Ma has a lot of old records from the 20s-40s (stuff like Louis Armstrong, Bing Crosby, Ella Fitzgerald, the Boswell Sisters, etc.) and while they aren’t his #1 choice of music, he does enjoy hearing it occasionally. It takes him back.
R- Rainy Day (What do they like on a rainy day?)
Scout’s a big ball of energy (but we already knew that.) So to him, why would you wanna stay inside when there’s tons of water you could be running around in? He’ll have a blast chasing you around the base in the rain! Laughing and tackling each other on the grass. But don’t worry! If you’d rather stay inside then be prepared for him to go for a run in the rain… only to come back inside soaking wet. He’ll flop on the couch like a wet dog as you dry him off with a spare towel.
S- Sad (How do they cheer themselves/others up?)
I’ll be honest, Scout isn’t that good at handling his emotions. So when he gets sad, he prefers to distract himself any way he can. Going on a run, cleaning his room (which normally looks like a pigsty), hitting some balls outside, annoying his teammates, etc. But with you, darling S/O, he hates to see you upset. So he tries to make you laugh anyway he can! Though, once he realizes that it’s not working, he’ll try his best to actually ask you what’s wrong. …He’s trying, okay?
T- Talking (What do they like to talk about?)
Obviously he’s known for being a chatterbox and never shutting up, but he does have certain topics that he adores talking about. Ask him anything about the Red Sox from 1901 to 1969 and he’ll give you an 8-hour presentation. Tbh, any general question about baseball will have him raving to teach you. And while this comes as a surprise to no one, yes, he does enjoy talking about… himself. Whether it be his muscles, his most impressive kills, his speed, his disorder that makes him irresistible to ladies, he wants so badly to impress you, even if you’re already together. He’s not completely self-absorbed, I promise.
U- Unencumbered (What helps them relax?)
As previously mentioned, Scout occasionally listens to music. Now, to relax, he plays his favorite Tom Jones songs. (I’d assume “Love Me Tonight” or “It’s Not Unusual.”) Seriously, just cuddle with him while the songs play. It does wonders for our boy.
V- Vaunt (Do they show off their S/O? What about them do they show off?)
Scout loves, loves, LOVES to show off his amazing S/O! Not just to the team or his brothers, but random people at restaurants or bars, “Hey, have ya seen my baby? Good looking, ain’t they? …Hey, that’s enough staring, pal!” Mostly, he’ll just rave on about how goddamn gorgeous you are, but if anyone starts to ask about what you’re like or how you treat him, then he’ll start yapping about how you’re so smart and badass and nice and amazing and- the team is sick of hearing him squeal about you everyday.
W- Wedding (When, how, and where do they propose? …Do they propose?)
It’d definitely be several years into the future but yes, Scout would absolutely propose. Only he would have no earthly idea of how to do it. Sooo… Spy to his son’s rescue! He tells Scout to make it as intimate and personal as possible, to which Scout actually takes into consideration. He proposes to you in a creative yet a little unorthodox way. He tells you to meet him at the ballpark for an unprompted date. Eagerly, you agree and meet him in one of the diamonds on the field. You notice him standing across from you at home plate, bat at the ready. You understand, preparing to catch the oncoming ball. Until you notice he lifts a particular black ball out of his gym bag, throwing it in the air before barely putting any force behind the swing, having his S/O catch it with ease. Once you feel it in your fingertips, however, do you realize it’s not a ball at all, but some kind of weird, sphere-shaped box. Out of curiosity, you open it. That night, you were sure the entire park could hear you scream, “Yes! Yes! Yes!!!”
X- Xylophone (What song do they associate with themselves?) Probably obvious but “Sexbomb” by Tom Jones. He remembers God telling him that he’s a gift to all women when it comes to “bedroom activities.” Don’t worry, though! He’s a faithful man and is certainly a gift that will not be shared if he’s in a committed relationship. (Plus he literally has the song title tattooed on his chest, spelled incorrectly even.)
Y- Yearning (Are they clingy? Needy?)
Normally no. He’s super affectionate but he gives you your own space. However, there have been a handful of moments in your relationship where he’s had a shitty day and all he wants to do is fall asleep in your arms. This is also super weird but if you guys don’t see each other for like, three days (probably from work or something like that) then he’s completely fine. But if he has to go on a trip for the same period of time, he misses you so much it hurts. You’re all he thinks about that entire trip. Maybe it’s the distance itself but you certainly aren’t complaining when you open the door and see him sprint into your arms.
Z- Zoo (If they wanted a pet, what animal would they get? Would they have more than one?)
Scout loves animals. Only he doesn’t really know much about proper animal care so he’s the type to end up taking in 12 dogs at a time and not see an issue. For one pet though, he’d prefer a dog he could go on runs with. Though, he also has a huge soft spot for hamsters and gerbils. And ducks, oddly enough. Overall, he ain’t picky. You could bring home a goldfish and he’d be happy.
