The Night Comes Down Like Heaven

Summary:

Terzo was silent for a few more moments, a conflicted look painted across his face as he tried to even out his breathing. He drew in a breath as he squeezed Omega’s hands back. “I’m scared of the future. Scared of what’s going to come, how it will all end.”

Omega assures Terzo on the future and promises him all he can give (they’re so fucking in love) (I’m projecting AGAIN)

Notes:

This is written for one specific Twitter moot because I made them cry once or twice about my Terzmega headcanons (hai)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

It’s not uncommon for Terzo to slip away after rehearsals and take a moment to himself, or better, a moment shared with his ghoul, Omega. However what was uncommon was that Terzo’s office and room were completely pitch black save for the moonlight spilling through haphazardly closed curtains. Usually his room is fragrant with burning candles, always a source of light coming from somewhere, shining as bright as Terzo’s charm and charismatic personality. Tonight though, it’s cold. Quiet. Not even the fireplace is lit.

Omega carefully closes the door to Terzo’s office behind him as he enters, surveying the room with each careful step forward. He can see in the dark better than humans thanks to his infernal vessel, however even now, it’s a struggle to see, as if the room was filled with an inky black liquid, drowning all life and weighing down on everyone within. Omega carefully flicked on a lamp, the warm yellow light battling the drowning dark, though the light was barely enough to illuminate the room.

His eyes wandered around the room, eyes tracing over the curves of the furniture, drinking in the space around him. Nothing was out of place, all was as it was left, but he couldn’t help but feel like something was off. The door leading to Terzo’s bedroom was left ajar, Omega quietly walking over and pushing it open, letting the light bleed into the dark.

Chi- Omega?” Mismatched eyes peered from the darkness, Terzo sitting up in a panic. He was completely wrapped in his blanket, only his face left uncovered. His facepaint had been scrubbed off, but the stain of black lingered around his tired eyes. He looked exhausted, a sea of sorrow swirling in the colours of his iris.

Omega sat at the end of the bed, his voice soft as he spoke. “Are you okay? You took off after practice, could barely keep up with you.”

Terzo offered the ghoul a forced smile and shook his head, “I’m okay, amore mio. Just tired, that’s all.”

Omega sketched a brow, “you’re not the kind to be ‘just tired,’ especially after practice. Whats bothering you?”

Terzo stared off for a moment, dropping the blanket a little, the fabric falling to settle on his legs. He was wearing a black shirt - Omega’s black shirt - and had his knees tucked to his chest. He let out a shaky breath and met Omega’s eyes once more. “It’s nothing, don’t worry, caro.”

Omega took Terzo’s hands into his and gave them a firm squeeze, “it’s not nothing if it’s bothering you. I want to help, however I can.”

Terzo was silent for a few more moments, a conflicted look painted across his face as he tried to even out his breathing. He drew in a breath as he squeezed Omega’s hands back. “I’m scared of the future. Scared of what’s going to come, how it will all end. I’m scared of losing you.”

“Terz-” Omega started, but was cut off by his lover launching forward and wrapping his arms firmly around Omega’s middle, his face buried in his chest. Terzo was trembling as he pressed into the ghoul. Omega only wrapped his arms around Terzo and pulled him in tighter. Tears threatened to spill from Terzo’s eyes as Omega’s careful hand ran through his silky hair. He felt so small against Omega’s frame.

“I don’t deserve you,” Terzo half laughs as he hugs a little tighter, fighting the bubble rising in his throat as Omega squeezes a little tighter in response.

“I don’t know where you got that idea,” Omega whispers. Terzo pulled back, a warm smile growing on the Omega’s face as Terzo’s eyes traced across every curve and detail of the quintessence ghoul.

Omega tucks a piece of stray hair behind Terzo’s ear. Rounded. Human. Mortal. Unlike the curve of Omega’s, a constant reminder that he isn’t of this realm, an immortal hellbeast summoned to be his eternal servant.

“You know I’d stay with you forever, right?” Omega mumbles as he stares into Terzo’s mismatched eyes, watching as tears begin to prickle in the corners.

“But how long is forever?” Terzo whispers back, his voice cracking as he says the words. “How long do I have left here? Before someone replaces me?”

Omega exhaled, he didn’t know the answer, he couldn’t promise his human lover anything, but still he did. “I promise you, Terzo, that I will stay with you for as long as you will let me, and I promise that if they take you, I will follow you in death. Forever, until the end.”

Tears now freely flowed down Terzo’s cheeks, the remnants of his facepaint staining in streaks. Omega wiped them away with his thumb, resting his hand on the underside of Terzo’s jaw. A sob wracked through Terzo’s body as he fell against Omega once more, the ghoul holding him close as his tears stained into his shirt.

“Fuck- I’m sorry,” Terzo sniffled, his words muffled by Omega’s shirt.

“You’re okay, deep breaths,” Omega spoke, his voice gentle. His hands trailed circles into Terzo’s back, calming him as he trembled. “Deep breaths.”

Terzo nodded, inhaling through his nose as he melted deeper into Omega’s embrace. His lungs ached as he breathed, but his tears slowed as he continued, his muscles easing from their tensed state, Omega’s hand never once stilling.

“One more deep breath for me, in and out” Omega spoke again. Terzo followed his instruction, inhaling through his nose and exhaling through his mouth. “Did you want me to use quintessence to help you with your anxiety?”

“It’s okay,” Terzo mumbled back. “I don’t want you to strain yourself too much, you already do so much for all of us.” His voice was small as he spoke, exhaustion washing over him as he slowly calmed.

“You’re never a bother, Terzo, never. Just say the word, and I’ll be happy to do it.” Omega’s hand drifted back up to Terzo’s hair, running his fingers through it once more. “We’ll spend a few more minutes like this, then we’ll go get water, okay?”

Terzo responded with a noncommittal hum, his eyes heavy as he continued to level his breathing. “You smell so nice, y’know?”

“I try my best.”

“Your smell reminds me of stars, the night sky, the glimmer of eternity,” Terzo murmured. “It’s like wandering through a forest at night, you’re lost but not afraid, and when you look up, you can see millions of stars through the trees.”

Omega chuckled softly, “oddly specific.”

“I could get lost in it. Get lost in you.” Terzo’s words were quiet, soft, so full of love as he spoke them. He let out another exhale, melting a little more in Omega’s arms. “I love you, Omega. My ghoul. My star.”

Omega pressed a kiss into Terzo’s inky hair, “I love you too, my eternity.”
